< Genesis 29 >
1 And Jacob lifts up his feet, and goes toward the land of the sons of the east;
Thuutha ũcio Jakubu agĩthiĩ na mbere na rũgendo rwake, agĩkinya bũrũri wa andũ a mwena wa irathĩro.
2 and he looks, and behold, a well in the field, and behold, there [are] three droves of a flock crouching by it, for they water the droves from that well, and the great stone [is] on the mouth of the well.
Na rĩrĩ, akĩona gĩthima werũ-inĩ, na ndũũru ithatũ cia mbũri ikomete hakuhĩ nakĩo, tondũ cianyuithagio maaĩ kuuma gĩthima-inĩ kĩu. Narĩo ihiga rĩrĩa rĩakunĩkĩte mũromo wa gĩthima kĩu rĩarĩ inene mũno.
3 (When all the droves have been gathered there, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)
Na ndũũru ciothe ciarĩkia kũrũrũngana hau, arĩithi nao maagaragaragia ihiga rĩkeherio mũromo-inĩ wa gĩthima, makahe ndũũru maaĩ. Magacooka magacookia ihiga handũ harĩo mũromo-inĩ wa gĩthima.
4 And Jacob says to them, “My brothers, where [are] you from?” And they say, “We [are] from Haran.”
Jakubu akĩũria arĩithi acio atĩrĩ, “Ariũ a baba, muumĩte kũ?” Nao makĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Tuumĩte Harani.”
5 And he says to them, “Have you known Laban, son of Nahor?” And they say, “We have known.”
Akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ mũũĩ Labani mũrũ wa Nahoru?” Nao magĩcookia “Ĩĩ, nĩ tũmũũĩ.”
6 And he says to them, “Does he have peace?” And they say, “Peace; and behold, his daughter Rachel is coming with the flock.”
Ningĩ Jakubu akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “No mwega?” Makiuga atĩrĩ, “Ĩĩ, nĩ mwega. Na rĩrĩ, mwarĩ Rakeli-rĩ, nĩwe ũũrĩa ũroka na ngʼondu.”
7 And he says, “Behold, the day [is] still great, [it is] not time for the livestock to be gathered; water the flock, and go, delight yourselves.”
Nake Jakubu akĩmeera ũũ, “Atĩrĩrĩ, riũa rĩrĩ o igũrũ; na ti ihinda rĩa gũcookanĩrĩria ndũũru. Heei ngʼondu maaĩ, mũcooke mũthiĩ mũgacirĩithie.”
8 And they say, “We are not able, until all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.”
Nao makĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Tũtingĩĩka ũguo o nginya ndũũru ciothe icookanĩrĩrio, narĩo ihiga rĩgaragario kuuma mũromo wa gĩthima, tũcooke tũhe ngʼondu maaĩ.”
9 He is yet speaking with them, and Rachel has come with the flock which her father has, for she [is] shepherdess;
O akĩmaragĩria-rĩ, Rakeli agĩkinya na ngʼondu cia ithe, tondũ aarĩ mũrĩithi.
10 and it comes to pass, when Jacob has seen Rachel, daughter of his mother’s brother Laban, and the flock of his mother’s brother Laban, that Jacob comes near and rolls the stone from off the mouth of the well, and waters the flock of his mother’s brother Laban.
Rĩrĩa Jakubu onire Rakeli mwarĩ wa Labani, mũrũ wa nyina na nyina, na ngʼondu cia Labani, agĩthiĩ, akĩgaragaria ihiga, akĩrĩeheria mũromo-inĩ wa gĩthima na akĩhe ngʼondu cia mamawe maaĩ.
11 And Jacob kisses Rachel, and lifts up his voice, and weeps,
Ningĩ Jakubu akĩmumunya Rakeli, na akĩrĩra anĩrĩire.
12 and Jacob declares to Rachel that he [is] her father’s brother, and that he [is] Rebekah’s son, and she runs and declares [it] to her father.
Jakubu nĩeerĩte Rakeli atĩ nĩ metainwo na ithe, na atĩ aarĩ mũrũ wa Rebeka. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Rakeli agĩtengʼera akĩĩra ithe ũhoro ũcio.
13 And it comes to pass, when Laban hears the report of his sister’s son Jacob, that he runs to meet him, and embraces him, and kisses him, and brings him into his house; and he recounts to Laban all these things,
Labani aarĩkia kũigua ũhoro wa Jakubu, mũriũ wa mwarĩ wa nyina, akĩhiũha agĩthiĩ kũmũtũnga. Akĩmũhĩmbĩria akĩmũmumunya, na akĩmũtwara mũciĩ, na arĩ kũu mũciĩ Jakubu akĩhe Labani ũhoro ũcio wothe.
14 and Laban says to him, “You [are] surely my bone and my flesh”; and he dwells with him a month of days.
Nake Labani akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ti-itherũ, ũrĩ wa mũthiimo wakwa na thakame yakwa.” Thuutha wa Jakubu gũikara nake mweri mũgima,
15 And Laban says to Jacob, “Is it because you [are] my brother that you have served me for nothing? Declare to me what your hire [is].”
Labani akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Ũrĩndutagĩra wĩra o ũguo tũhũ tondũ ũrĩ wa mbarĩ ciitũ? Njĩĩra mũcaara ũrĩa ũkwenda.”
16 And Laban has two daughters, the name of the older [is] Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,
Na rĩrĩ, Labani aarĩ na airĩtu eerĩ; ũrĩa mũkũrũ eetagwo Lea, nake ũrĩa mũnini eetagwo Rakeli.
17 and the eyes of Leah [are] tender, and Rachel has been beautiful of form and beautiful of appearance.
Lea aarĩ na maitho mataarĩ na hinya, no Rakeli oombĩtwo arĩ kĩĩrorerwa na aarĩ mũthaka.
18 And Jacob loves Rachel and says, “I serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter”:
Jakubu eendete Rakeli, nake akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩngũgũtungatĩra mĩaka mũgwanja, ũndĩhe na kũũhe Rakeli, mwarĩguo ũrĩa mũnini.”
19 and Laban says, “It is better for me to give her to you than to give her to another man; dwell with me”;
Labani agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Nĩ kaba ndĩmũheanĩte kũrĩ we gũkĩra ndĩmũhe mũndũ ũngĩ. Ikara gũkũ na niĩ, ũndungate.”
20 and Jacob serves for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Jakubu agĩtungata mĩaka mũgwanja nĩguo aheo Rakeli, no harĩ we yarĩ o ta matukũ manini nĩ ũndũ wa ũrĩa aamwendete.
21 And Jacob says to Laban, “Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in to her”;
Mĩaka ĩyo yathira Jakubu akĩĩra Labani atĩrĩ, “Rĩu kĩĩhe mũtumia wakwa ndĩmũhikie, tondũ nĩndĩrarĩkirie ihinda rĩakwa rĩa gũtungata.”
22 and Laban gathers all the men of the place, and makes a banquet.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Labani agĩkĩũngania andũ a kũu othe, akĩmarugĩra iruga.
23 And it comes to pass in the evening, that he takes his daughter Leah, and brings her to him, and he goes in to her;
No rĩrĩa hwaĩ-inĩ wakinyire-rĩ, akĩoya mwarĩ Lea, akĩmũnengera Jakubu, nake Jakubu agĩkoma nake.
24 and Laban gives his maidservant Zilpah to her, to his daughter Leah, [for] a maidservant.
Ningĩ Labani akĩheana Zilipa, ndungata yake ya mũirĩtu kũrĩ mwarĩ ĩmũtungatagĩre.
25 And it comes to pass in the morning, that behold, it [is] Leah; and he says to Laban, “What [is] this you have done to me? Have I not served with you for Rachel? And why have you deceived me?”
Na gwakĩa rũciinĩ-rĩ, Jakubu akĩona atĩ aaheetwo Lea! Tondũ ũcio Jakubu akĩũria Labani atĩrĩ, “Hĩ nĩ atĩa ũũ wanjĩka? Githĩ ndiragũtungatagĩra nĩ ũndũ wa Rakeli? Ũũheenetie nĩkĩ?”
26 And Laban says, “It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn;
Labani akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Ti mũtugo witũ gũkũ kũheana mũirĩtu ũrĩa mũnini ahike mbere ya ũrĩa mũkũrũ:
27 fulfill the period of seven [for] this one, and we also give to you this one, for the service which you serve with me yet seven other years.”
Rĩĩkia kiumia kĩa mũirĩtu ũyũ wahikia, na nĩtũgũcooka tũkũhe o na ũcio ũngĩ mũnini, nawe ũndutĩre wĩra mĩaka ĩngĩ mũgwanja.”
28 And Jacob does so, and fulfills the period of seven [for] this one, and he gives his daughter Rachel to him for a wife for him;
Nake Jakubu agĩĩka o ũguo. Akĩrĩkia kiumia kĩa Lea, nake Labani akĩmũnengera mwarĩ Rakeli atuĩke mũtumia wake.
29 and Laban gives his maidservant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel for a maidservant for her.
Labani akĩheana Biliha, ndungata yake ya mũirĩtu, kũrĩ Rakeli ĩmũtungatagĩre.
30 And he also goes in to Rachel, and he also loves Rachel more than Leah; and he serves with him yet seven other years.
Jakubu agĩkoma na Rakeli o nake, na akĩenda Rakeli gũkĩra Lea. Na akĩrutĩra Labani wĩra mĩaka ĩngĩ mũgwanja.
31 And YHWH sees that Leah [is] the hated one, and He opens her womb, and Rachel [is] barren;
Rĩrĩa Jehova onire atĩ Lea ndendeetwo-rĩ, akĩhingũra nda yake, no Rakeli aarĩ thaata.
32 and Leah conceives, and bears a son, and calls his name Reuben, for she said, “Because YHWH has looked on my affliction; because now does my husband love me.”
Lea akĩgĩa nda na agĩciara kahĩĩ. Nake agĩgatua Rubeni, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩ tondũ Jehova nĩonete mĩnyamaro yakwa. Ti-itherũ, rĩu mũthuuri wakwa nĩekũnyenda.”
33 And she conceives again, and bears a son, and says, “Because YHWH has heard that I [am] the hated one, He also gives to me even this [one]”; and she calls his name Simeon.
Na akĩgĩa nda rĩngĩ, na rĩrĩa aaciarire kahĩĩ, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Tondũ Jehova nĩaiguire atĩ ndirĩ mwende-rĩ, nĩaheete gaka o nako.” Nake agĩgatua Simeoni.
34 And she conceives again and bears a son, and says, “Now [is] the time, my husband is joined to me, because I have born to him three sons,” therefore has [one] called his name Levi.
O rĩngĩ akĩgĩa nda na rĩrĩa aaciarire kahĩĩ, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Ihinda rĩĩrĩ mũthuuri wakwa no ekwĩohania na niĩ tondũ nĩndĩmũciarĩire ihĩĩ ithatũ.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio agĩgatua Lawi.
35 And she conceives again and bears a son, and this time says, “I praise YHWH”; therefore has she called his name Judah; and she ceases from bearing.
Agĩcooka akĩgĩa nda rĩngĩ, agĩciara kahĩĩ kangĩ, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Ihinda rĩĩrĩ nĩ ngũgooca Jehova.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio agĩgatua Juda. Agĩcooka akĩrũgama kũgĩa ciana.
