Genesis 24
1 And Abraham [is] old, he has entered into days, and YHWH has blessed Abraham in all [things];
Abraham tsi ŋutɔ azɔ, eye Yehowa yrae le mɔ sia mɔ nu.
2 and Abraham says to his servant, the eldest of his house, who is ruling over all that he has, “Please put your hand under my thigh,
Gbe ɖeka la, Abraham gblɔ na eƒe aƒedzikpɔla, ame si nye eƒe subɔla tsitsitɔ be,
3 and I cause you to swear by YHWH, God of the heavens and God of the earth, that you do not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in the midst of whom I am dwelling;
“Tsɔ wò asiwo de nye ata te, eye nàka atam nam le Yehowa, dziƒo kple anyigba ƒe Mawu ŋkume be màna vinye naɖe Kanaan nyɔnuvi siawo dometɔ aɖeke o,
4 but to my land and to my family you go, and have taken a wife for my son, for Isaac.”
ke boŋ àyi nye denyigba dzi kple ƒonyemetɔwo dome, eye nàɖe srɔ̃ nɛ le afi ma.”
5 And the servant says to him, “It may be the woman is not willing to come after me to this land; do I at all cause your son to return to the land from where you came out?”
Aƒedzikpɔla la biae be, “Ke ne nyemate ŋu kpɔ ɖetugbi aɖeke si alɔ̃ be yeava teƒe didi sia o ɖe, ekema ɖe makplɔ Isak ayi afi ma boŋ, ale be wòanɔ ƒowòmetɔwo domea?”
6 And Abraham says to him, “Take heed to yourself lest you cause my son to return there;
Abraham ɖo eŋu be, “Gbeɖe! Kpɔ nyuie be màwɔ nenema gbeɖe o,
7 YHWH, God of the heavens, who has taken me from the house of my father, and from the land of my birth, and who has spoken to me, and who has sworn to me, saying, To your seed I give this land, He sends His messenger before you, and you have taken a wife for my son from there;
elabena Yehowa, Mawu si le dziƒo la gblɔ nam be magblẽ anyigba ma kple ƒonyemetɔwo ɖi, eye wòdo ŋugbe nam be yeatsɔ anyigba sia na nye kple nye dzidzimeviwo. Ana mawudɔla aɖe nanɔ ŋgɔ na wò, eye wòakpɔ egbɔ be èkpɔ nyɔnuvi aɖe tso afi ma wòazu vinye srɔ̃.
8 and if the woman is not willing to come after you, then you have been acquitted from this my oath: only you do not cause my son to return there.”
Ke ne medze edzi nenema o la, ekema atam sia megabla wò o, gake mègakplɔ vinye yi be, wòatsi afi ma gbeɖegbeɖe o.”
9 And the servant puts his hand under the thigh of Abraham his lord, and swears to him concerning this matter.
Ale aƒedzikpɔla la tsɔ eƒe asiwo de Abraham ƒe ata te, eye wòka atam be yeawɔ eƒe ɖoɖowo dzi.
10 And the servant takes ten camels of the camels of his lord and goes, also of all the goods of his lord in his hand, and he rises, and goes to Aram-Naharaim, to the city of Nahor;
Ekplɔ Abraham ƒe kposɔ ewo ɖe asi, eye wòdo agba na wo kple nu nyui siwo katã le eƒe aƒetɔ si la ƒe ɖe. Ezɔ mɔ yi Aram Naharaim, eye wòyi Nahor ƒe du me.
11 and he causes the camels to kneel at the outside of the city, at the well of water, at evening, at the time of the coming out of the women who draw water.
Ena kposɔawo tsyɔ akɔ anyi ɖe dua godo le vudo aɖe to. Esi ɣe trɔ la, dua me nyɔnuwo va nɔ tsi kum.
12 And he says, “YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, please cause to meet before me this day—(and do kindness with my lord Abraham;
Aƒedzikpɔla la do gbe ɖa be, “O, Yehowa, nye aƒetɔ ƒe Mawu, kpɔ nublanui na nye aƒetɔ Abraham, eye nàna be nye asi nasu nu si ta meva afi sia ɖo la dzi.
13 behold, I am standing by the fountain of water, and daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water;
Kpɔm ɖa, mele tsitre ɖe vudo sia to, ɖetugbiwo tso dua me va le tsi kum.
14 and it has been, the young person to whom I say, Please incline your pitcher and I drink, and she has said, Drink, and I also water your camels)—her [whom] You have decided for Your servant, for Isaac; and by it I know that You have done kindness with my lord.”
Nu si mebia wò lae nye ɖetugbi si mabia be wòana tsim, eye wòagblɔ be, ‘Yoo, mana tsi wò kple wò kposɔwo siaa’ la, na be eya tututu nanye nyɔnu si wò ŋutɔ nètia be wòanye Isak srɔ̃. To esia me madze sii le be ève nye aƒetɔ nu.”
15 And it comes to pass, before he has finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah (who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham) is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder,
Hafi wòawu gbedodoɖa la nu la, Rebeka va do kple eƒe tsikuze si wòlé ɖe abɔta la. Enye Betuel ƒe vinyɔnu. Betuel nye Milka ƒe viŋutsu, ame si nye Abraham srɔ̃ nɔviŋutsu Nahor.
16 and the young person [is] of very good appearance, a virgin, and a man has not known her; and she goes down to the fountain, and fills her pitcher, and comes up.
Ɖetugbi la dze tugbe ŋutɔ. Menya ŋutsu haɖe o. Eva tsikuƒe la, ku tsi ɖe eƒe tsikuze me, eye wògado go.
17 And the servant runs to meet her and says, “Please let me swallow a little water from your pitcher”;
Aƒedzikpɔla la ɖe abla te ɖe eŋu, eye wògblɔ nɛ be, “Meɖe kuku, na tsi vi aɖem tso wò tsikuze la me mano.”
18 and she says, “Drink, my lord”; and she hurries, and lets down her pitcher on her hand, and gives him drink.
Ɖetugbi la ɖo eŋu be, “Mana tsi wò faa, nye aƒetɔ.” Eku tsi na aƒedzikpɔla la enumake,
19 And she finishes giving him drink and says, “Also for your camels I draw until they have finished drinking”;
eye wògblɔ be, “Mana wò kposɔwo hã va se ɖe esime woaɖi kɔ!”
20 and she hurries, and empties her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and runs again to the well to draw, and draws for all his camels.
Ale Rebeka ku tsi kɔ ɖe lãwo ƒe tsinonu me. Egatrɔ yi ɖaku tsi le vudoa me zi geɖe va se ɖe esime kposɔawo no tsi wòsu wo.
21 And the man, wondering at her, remains silent, to know whether YHWH has made his way prosperous or not.
Aƒedzikpɔla la megagblɔ nya aɖeke o, ke boŋ eda ŋku ɖi be yeakpɔ be Yehowa wɔ ɖe nu siwo katã yebiae la dzi mahã.
22 And it comes to pass, when the camels have finished drinking, that the man takes a golden ring (whose weight [is] a bekah), and two bracelets for her hands (whose weight [is] ten [bekahs] of gold),
Esi kposɔawo no tsi heɖi kɔ vɔ la, etsɔ sikatogɛ kple sikalɔnugɛ na Rebeka.
23 and says, “Whose daughter [are] you? Please declare to me, is the house of your father a place for us to lodge in?”
Ebiae be, “Ɖetugbi, ame ka ƒe vi nènye? Teƒe le fofowò si wòana míadze le zã sia mea?”
24 And she says to him, “I [am] daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she has borne to Nahor.”
Eɖo eŋu be, “Fofonyee nye Betuel si nye Milka si nye Nahor srɔ̃ la ƒe vi.
25 She also says to him, “Both straw and provender [are] abundant with us, also a place to lodge in.”
Ɛ̃, nuɖuɖu le mía si sɔ gbɔ na kposɔawo, eye amedzrodzeƒe hã li.”
26 And the man bows, and pays respect to YHWH,
Aƒedzikpɔla la tsi tsitre ɖe afi ma sẽe, de ta agu, eye wòkafu Yehowa gblɔ be,
27 and says, “Blessed [is] YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, who has not left off His kindness and His truth with my lord—I [being] in the way, YHWH has led me to the house of my lord’s brothers.”
“Yehowa Mawu, nye aƒetɔ Abraham ƒe Mawu, meda akpe na wò be nève nye aƒetɔ nu, eye nèwɔ wò ŋugbedodo dzi nɛ be nèkplɔm tẽe va do ɖe nye aƒetɔ ƒe ƒometɔwo dome.”
28 And the young person runs, and declares to the house of her mother according to these words.
Ɖetugbi la ƒu du yi aƒe me be yeaka nya la ta na yeƒe amewo.
29 And Rebekah has a brother, and his name [is] Laban, and Laban runs to the man who [is] outside, to the fountain;
Nɔviŋutsu aɖe nɔ Rebeka si. Eŋkɔe nye Laban.
30 indeed, it comes to pass, when he sees the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he hears the words of his sister Rebekah, saying, “Thus has the man spoken to me,” that he comes to the man, and behold, he is standing by the camels by the fountain.
Esi wòkpɔ togɛ la kple alɔnugɛ la le nɔvia nyɔnu ƒe abɔ, eye wòse Rebeka ƒe ɖaseɖiɖi tso nya si ŋutsu la gblɔ nɛ ŋuti ko la, eɖe abla yi ŋutsu la gbɔ le tsikuƒe la. Ekpɔe wòtsi tsitre ɖe kposɔawo gbɔ.
31 And he says, “Come in, O blessed one of YHWH! Why do you stand outside—and I have prepared the house and place for the camels?”
Egblɔ na ŋutsu la be, “Va, wò ame si Yehowa yra. Nu ka ta nèle tsitre ɖe afi sia ɖo? Medzra teƒe ɖo ɖe aƒea me na wò kple wò kposɔawo.”
32 And he brings in the man into the house, and looses the camels, and gives straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the feet of the men who [are] with him:
Ale aƒedzikpɔla la dze Laban yome yi aƒe me, eye woɖe agba na kposɔawo. Laban na gbe ƒuƒu aƒedzikpɔla la be wòana kposɔawo. Emegbe la, ena tsi aƒedzikpɔla la kple ŋutsu siwo kplɔe ɖo la be woaklɔ afɔ.
33 and sets before him to eat; but he says, “I do not eat until I have spoken my word”; and he says, “Speak.”
Wona fiẽnuɖuɖu wo, ke aƒedzikpɔla la gblɔ be, “Nyemedi be maɖu naneke o va se ɖe esime magblɔ nu si ta meva afi sia ɖo la na mi.” Laban gblɔ be, “Enyo, ka nya la ta na mí.”
34 And he says, “I [am] Abraham’s servant;
Egblɔ be, “Abraham ƒe subɔlae menye.
35 and YHWH has blessed my lord exceedingly, and he is great; and He gives to him flock, and herd, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and donkeys;
Yehowa kɔ yayra geɖewo ɖe nye aƒetɔ dzi, eye wòzu amegã aɖe le anyigba si dzi wòle la. Mawu na alẽwo, nyiwo, klosalo, sika, kluviwo, kposɔwo kple tedziwoe.
36 and Sarah, my lord’s wife, bears a son to my lord, after she has been aged, and he gives to him all that he has.
Azɔ esi nye aƒetɔ srɔ̃, Sara, tsi ŋutɔ la, edzi viŋutsu na nye aƒetɔ, eye nye aƒetɔ tsɔ eƒe nu sia nu nɛ.
37 And my lord causes me to swear, saying, You do not take a wife to my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I am dwelling.
Nye aƒetɔ na medo ŋugbe nɛ heka atam ɖe nya si wògblɔ nam dzi be, ‘Megaɖe srɔ̃ na vinye tso Kanaantɔ, siwo ƒe anyigba dzi mele la ƒe nyɔnuviwo dome o,
38 If not—to the house of my father you go, and to my family, and you have taken a wife for my son.
ke boŋ yi nye ƒometɔwo gbɔ le teƒe bubu, eye nàkplɔ ɖetugbi aɖe tso afi ma vɛ na vinye wòaɖe.’
39 And I say to my lord, It may be the woman does not come after me;
“Mebia nye aƒetɔ hã be, ‘Ke ne nyemekpɔ ɖetugbi si alɔ̃ be yeava o ɖe?’
40 and he says to me, YHWH, before whom I have habitually walked, sends His messenger with you, and has prospered your way, and you have taken a wife for my son from my family, and from the house of my father;
“Eɖo eŋu nam be, ‘Ɖetugbi la alɔ̃ be yeava, elabena Yehowa, ame si ŋkume mezɔ le la ana eƒe dɔla nazɔ kple wò, eye wòana nu si ta nèyi la naka asiwò. Ɛ̃, di ɖetugbi aɖe tso nye amewo dome, tso nɔvinyeŋutsua ƒe aƒemetɔwo dome.
41 then you are acquitted from my oath, when you come to my family; and if they do not give [one] to you, then you have been acquitted from my oath.
Le wò atamkaka ta la, ele na wò be nàyi aɖabia. Ne womaɖo ame aɖeke ɖa o la, ekema èvo tso wò atamkaka la me.’
42 And I come to the fountain today, and I say, YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, now if You are making prosperous my way in which I am going—
“Ɣetrɔ sia, esi meva ɖo vudo la to la, medo gbe ɖa be, ‘O, Yehowa, nye aƒetɔ Abraham ƒe Mawu, ne èdi be nye asi naka nu si ta meva afi sia ɖo la, meɖe kuku, kplɔm ale.
43 (behold, I am standing by the fountain of water), then the virgin is coming out to draw, and I have said to her, Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher,
Mele afi sia, le vudo sia to. Magblɔ na ɖetugbi aɖe si ava tsi ku ge la be, “Meɖe kuku, na tsim mano,”
44 and she has said to me, Both drink, and I also draw for your camels—she is the woman whom YHWH has decided for my lord’s son.
eye wòaɖo eŋu nam be, “Mana tsi wò faa, eye mana tsi wò kposɔawo hã!” Na ɖetugbi ma nanye esi wò Yehowa, nètia be wòanye nye aƒetɔ ƒe vi srɔ̃.’
45 Before I finish speaking to my heart, then behold, Rebekah is coming out, and her pitcher [is] on her shoulder, and she goes down to the fountain and draws; and I say to her, Please let me drink,
“Esi menɔ nya siawo gblɔm la, Rebeka gbɔna ɖaa, tsikuze nɔ abɔta nɛ. Eyi ɖaku tsi le vudo la me ɖe tsikuze la me. Megblɔ nɛ be, ‘Meɖe kuku, na tsim mano.’
46 and she hurries and lets down her pitcher from off her and says, Drink, and I also water your camels; and I drink, and she has also watered the camels.
“Eɖiɖi tsikuze la ɖe anyi enumake be manoe, eye wògblɔ be. ‘Amegã, mana tsi wò kposɔwo hã!’ Ke menoe, eye wòna nye kposɔwo hã.
47 And I ask her, and say, Whose daughter [are] you? And she says, Daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah has borne to him, and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands,
“Mebiae be, ‘Ame ka ƒe vie nènye?’ “Egblɔ nam be, ‘Fofonyee nye Betuel, Nahor kple srɔ̃a Milka ƒe vi.’ “Eya ta metsɔ asigɛ kple alɔnugɛwo nɛ.
48 and I bow, and pay respect before YHWH, and I bless YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, who has led me in the true way to receive the daughter of my lord’s brother for his son.
Emegbe la, mede ta agu, eye mekafu Yehowa, nye aƒetɔ Abraham ƒe Mawu la, elabena ekplɔm to mɔ nyuitɔ dzi be meke ɖe ɖetugbi aɖe ŋu tso nye aƒetɔ nɔviŋutsu ƒe vinyɔnuwo dome,
49 And now, if you are dealing kindly and truly with my lord, declare to me; and if not, declare to me; and I turn to the right or to the left.”
eya ta migblɔ nu si dzi mieɖo kpee la nam. Ɖe miave nye aƒetɔ nu loo alo miave enu awɔ nu si dze la oa? Ne mieɖo eŋu nam la, ekema manya afɔ si magaɖe, ato miame loo alo ɖusime.”
50 And Laban answers—Bethuel also—and they say, “The thing has gone out from YHWH; we are not able to speak to you bad or good;
Laban kple Betuel ɖo eŋu be, “Eme kɔ ƒãa be Yehowa ŋutɔe kplɔ wò va afi siae, eya ta nya aɖeke mele mía si o.
51 behold, Rebekah [is] before you, take and go, and she is a wife to your lord’s son, as YHWH has spoken.”
Kplɔe yi, eye wòazu wò aƒetɔ ƒe vi srɔ̃ abe ale si Yehowa gblɔe ene.”
52 And it comes to pass, when the servant of Abraham has heard their words, that he bows himself toward the earth before YHWH;
Le ŋuɖoɖo sia ta la, Abraham ƒe aƒedzikpɔla dze klo ɖe Yehowa ŋkume, eye wòsubɔe.
53 and the servant takes out vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and gives to Rebekah; precious things also he has given to her brother and to her mother.
Emegbe la, eɖe sikanuwo kple klosalonuwo kpakple awu nyuiwo na Rebeka, eye wòtsɔ nunana xɔasi vovovowo na dadaa kple nɔvia ŋutsu hã.
54 And they eat and drink, he and the men who [are] with him, and lodge all night; and they rise in the morning, and he says, “Send me to my lord”;
Emegbe la, woɖu nu, no nu dzidzɔtɔe eye Abraham ƒe aƒedzikpɔla la kple eƒe amewo tsi afi ma dɔ. Ke esi ŋu ke ŋdi kanya la, aƒedzikpɔla la gblɔ na wo be, “Mina matrɔ ayi nye aƒetɔ gbɔ!”
55 and her brother says—her mother also, “Let the young person abide with us a week or ten days, afterward she goes.”
Rebeka dada kple nɔvia gblɔ be, “Míedi be Rebeka naganɔ mía gbɔ ŋkeke ewo lɔƒo teti, ekema ate ŋu ayi.”
56 And he says to them, “Do not delay me, seeing YHWH has prospered my way; send me away, and I go to my lord”;
Ke aƒedzikpɔla la ɖe kuku be, “Migaxe mɔ na nye tɔtrɔ o. Yehowa ŋutɔ na nu si ta meva la dze edzi nam, eye medi be mayi aɖana akɔnta nye aƒetɔ.”
57 and they say, “Let us call for the young person, and inquire of her mouth”;
Wogblɔ be, “Enyo, míayɔ ɖetugbi la abia gbee.”
58 and they call for Rebekah, and say to her, “Do you go with this man?” And she says, “I go.”
Ale woyɔ Rebeka, eye wobiae be, “Èlɔ̃ be yeadze ŋutsu sia yomea?” Rebeka ɖo eŋu be, “Ɛ̃, mayi.”
59 And they send away their sister Rebekah, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant, and his men;
Ale wodo hedenyui nɛ, eye woɖe nyɔnu si kpɔ edzi tso ɖevime la kpe ɖe eŋu, hekpe ɖe Abraham ƒe dɔla kple eŋumewo ŋuti.
60 and they bless Rebekah, and say to her, “You [are] our sister; become thousands of myriads, and your seed possesses the gate of those hating it.”
Le kaklãɣi la, woyrae kple nya siawo: “Mía nɔvi lɔlɔ̃a, nadzi ame akpe akpewo wò dzidzimeviwo naɖu woƒe futɔwo katã dzi.”
61 And Rebekah and her young women arise, and ride on the camels, and go after the man; and the servant takes Rebekah and goes.
Ale Rebeka kple eƒe dɔlanyɔnuwo de kposɔawo dzi, eye wodzo kple Abraham ƒe aƒedzikpɔla la.
62 And Isaac has come in from the entrance of the Well of the Living One, my Beholder; and he is dwelling in the land of the south,
Fifia Isak, ame si ƒe aƒe le Negeb la, trɔ va Ber Lahai Roi.
63 and Isaac goes out to meditate in the field, at the turning of the evening, and he lifts up his eyes, and looks, and behold, camels are coming.
Gbe ɖeka fiẽ esi wònɔ tsa ɖim le gbedzi nɔ gbe dom ɖa la, ekpɔ kposɔwo gbɔna ɖa.
64 And Rebekah lifts up her eyes, and sees Isaac, and comes down off the camel;
Rebeka kpɔe ɖa, eye wòɖi enumake le kposɔ la dzi.
65 and she says to the servant, “Who [is] this man who is walking in the field to meet us?” And the servant says, “It [is] my lord”; and she takes the veil, and covers herself.
Rebeka bia aƒedzikpɔla la be, “Ame kae ma le zɔzɔm le gbedzi gbɔna mía kpe ge?” Eɖo eŋu be, “Nye aƒetɔ ƒe viŋutsue!” Ale Rebeka tsɔ motsyɔnu tsyɔ mo.
66 And the servant recounts to Isaac all the things that he has done,

67 and Isaac brings her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he takes Rebekah, and she becomes his wife, and he loves her, and Isaac is comforted after [the death of] his mother.
