Genesis 17
1 And Abram is a son of ninety-nine years, and YHWH appears to Abram, and says to him, “I [am] God Almighty, habitually walk before Me, and be perfect;
U-Abhrama eseleminyaka engamatshumi ayisificamunwemunye lasificamunwemunye yobudala, uThixo wabonakala kuye wathi, “NginguNkulunkulu uSomandla; hamba ngokwethembeka phambi kwami, ungasoleki.
2 and I give My covenant between Me and you, and multiply you very exceedingly.”
Ngizasiqinisa isivumelwano phakathi kwami lawe, ngandise njalo ubunengi benu.”
3 And Abram falls on his face, and God speaks with him, saying,
U-Abhrama wawa wathi mbo phansi ngobuso, uNkulunkulu wathi kuye,
4 “I—behold, My covenant [is] with you, and you have become father of a multitude of nations;
“Mina ngokwami ngithi lesi yisivumelwano sami lawe: uzakuba nguyise wezizwe ezinengi.
5 and your name is no longer called Abram, but your name has been Abraham, for father of a multitude of nations have I made you;
Kawusayi kubizwa ngokuthi Abhrama; ibizo lakho selizakuba ngu-Abhrahama, ngoba sengikwenze uyise wezizwe ezinengi.
6 and I have made you exceedingly fruitful, and made you become nations, and kings go out from you.
Ngizakwenza uzuze inzalo enengi; ngizakwenza izizwe ngawe, njalo amakhosi azaphuma kuwe.
7 And I have established My covenant between Me and you, and your seed after you, throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant, to become God to you, and to your seed after you;
Ngizaqinisa isivumelwano sami sibe yisivumelwano sanini lanini phakathi kwami lawe kanye lezizukulwane ezizayo ukuba nguNkulunkulu wakho, loNkulunkulu wezizukulwane zakho ngemva kwakho.
8 and I have given to you, and to your seed after you, the land of your sojournings, the whole land of Canaan, for a continuous possession, and I have become their God.”
Ilizwe lonke laseKhenani, okwamanje ohlala njengowezizwe kulo, ngizakupha libe yilifa laphakade kuwe lezizukulwane zakho ngemva kwakho; njalo ngizakuba nguNkulunkulu wabo.”
9 And God says to Abraham, “And you keep My covenant, you and your seed after you, throughout their generations;
UNkulunkulu wasesithi ku-Abhrahama, “Wena kumele ugcine isivumelwano sami, wena lezizukulwane zakho ezizayo.
10 this [is] My covenant which you keep between Me and you, and your seed after you: every male of you [is] to be circumcised;
Lesi yisivumelwano sami lawe lezizukulwane ezizayo, isivumelwano okumele usigcine: Wonke umuntu wesilisa phakathi kwenu kuzamele asokwe.
11 and you have circumcised the flesh of your foreskin, and it has become a token of a covenant between Me and you.
Wena kumele usokwe, lokho kuzakuba yisiboniso sesivumelwano phakathi kwami lawe.
12 And a son of eight days is circumcised by you; every male throughout your generations, born in the house, or bought with money from any son of a stranger, who is not of your seed;
Kuzizukulwane ezizayo umuntu wonke wesilisa ophakathi kwenu oselezinsuku eziyisificaminwembili kumele asokwe, kusitsho lalabo abazalwa emzini wakho loba abathengwa ngemali emuntwini wezizwe, labo abangazalwa nguwe.
13 he is certainly circumcised who [is] born in your house, or bought with your money; and My covenant has become in your flesh a perpetual covenant;
Loba abazalwa emzini wakho kumbe abathengwa ngemali, kumele basokwe. Isivumelwano sami enyameni yakho sizakuba yisivumelwano esingapheliyo.
14 and an uncircumcised one, a male, the flesh of whose foreskin is not circumcised, indeed, that person has been cut off from his people; My covenant he has broken.”
Lowo owesilisa ongasokwanga, ongazange ake asokwe enyameni uzakhalalwa ngabantu bakibo; usephule isivumelwano sami.”
15 And God says to Abraham, “Sarai your wife—you do not call her name Sarai, for Sarah [is] her name;
UNkulunkulu waphinda njalo wathi ku-Abhrahama, “Umkakho uSarayi, ungabe usambiza ngokuthi nguSarayi; ibizo lakhe selinguSara.
16 and I have blessed her, and have also given to you a son from her; and I have blessed her, and she has become nations—kings of peoples are from her.”
Ngizambusisa, njalo ngizakunika indodana ngaye. Ngizambusisa ukuze abe ngunina wezizwe; amakhosi ezizwe azavela kuye.”
17 And Abraham falls on his face, and laughs, and says in his heart, “Is one born to the son of one hundred years? Or does Sarah—daughter of ninety years—bear?”
U-Abhrahama wawa wathi mbo ngobuso phansi; wahleka wazitshela wathi, “Kambe indodana ingazalwa ngumuntu oseleminyaka elikhulu na? USara angamzala umntwana yena eseleminyaka engamatshumi ayisificamunwemunye na?”
18 And Abraham says to God, “O that Ishmael may live before You”;
Ngakho u-Abhrahama wasesithi kuNkulunkulu, “Nxa u-Ishumayeli engaphila ngaphansi kwesibusiso sakho kuphela!”
19 and God says, “Your wife Sarah is certainly bearing a son to you, and you have called his name Isaac, and I have established My covenant with him, for a perpetual covenant, to his seed after him.
UNkulunkulu wasesithi, “Yebo, uSara uzakuzalela indodana, wena uyibize ngokuthi ngu-Isaka. Ngizaqinisa isivumelwano sami laye sibe yisivumelwano esingapheliyo lezizukulwane eziza ngemva kwakhe.
20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him, and made him fruitful, and multiplied him, very exceedingly; twelve princes does he beget, and I have made him become a great nation;
Mayelana lo-Ishumayeli, ngizwile okutshiloyo: ngeqiniso ngizambusisa; ngizamnika inzalo enkulu, ngandise ubunengi bayo. Uzakuba nguyise wababusi abalitshumi lambili, ngimenze abe yisizwe esikhulu.
21 and My covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah does bear to you at this appointed time in the next year”;
Kodwa isivumelwano sami ngizasiqinisa lo-Isaka, ozamzalelwa nguSara ngalesisikhathi ngomnyaka ozayo.”
22 and He finishes speaking with him, and God goes up from Abraham.
Eseqedile ukukhuluma lo-Abhrahama, uNkulunkulu wenyuka wamtshiya.
23 And Abraham takes his son Ishmael, and all those born in his house, and all those bought with his money—every male among the men of Abraham’s house and circumcises the flesh of their foreskin, in this very same day, as God has spoken with him.
Ngalelolanga u-Abhrahama wathatha indodana yakhe u-Ishumayeli labo bonke abazalelwa emzini wakhe loba abathengwayo ngemali yakhe wabasoka, njengoba uNkulunkulu wayemtshelile.
24 And Abraham [is] a son of ninety-nine years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;
U-Abhrahama wayeleminyaka yokuzalwa engamatshumi ayisificamunwemunye lasificamunwemunye mhla esokwa,
25 and his son Ishmael [is] a son of thirteen years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;
indodana yakhe u-Ishumayeli yayileminyaka yokuzalwa elitshumi lantathu;
26 in this very same day Abraham has been circumcised, and his son Ishmael;
u-Abhrahama lendodana yakhe u-Ishumayeli bobabili basokwa mhlalokho ngalanga linye.
27 and all the men of his house—born in the house, and bought with money from the son of a stranger—have been circumcised with him.
Njalo bonke abesilisa ababesemzini ka-Abhrahama, kugoqela labo abazalelwa khonapho ekhaya labathengwa kwabezizwe, basokwa kanye laye.
