Genesis 17
1 And Abram is a son of ninety-nine years, and YHWH appears to Abram, and says to him, “I [am] God Almighty, habitually walk before Me, and be perfect;
Lorsque Abram fut arrivé à l’âge de quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans, Yahweh lui apparut et lui dit: « Je suis le Dieu tout-puissant; marche devant ma face et sois irréprochable:
2 and I give My covenant between Me and you, and multiply you very exceedingly.”
j’établirai mon alliance entre moi et toi, et je te multiplierai à l’infini. »
3 And Abram falls on his face, and God speaks with him, saying,
Abram tomba la face contre terre, et Dieu lui parla ainsi:
4 “I—behold, My covenant [is] with you, and you have become father of a multitude of nations;
« Moi, voici mon alliance avec toi: tu deviendras père d’une multitude de nations.
5 and your name is no longer called Abram, but your name has been Abraham, for father of a multitude of nations have I made you;
On ne te nommera plus Abram, mais ton nom sera Abraham, car je te fais père d’une multitude de nations.
6 and I have made you exceedingly fruitful, and made you become nations, and kings go out from you.
Je te ferai croître extraordinairement, je ferai de toi des nations, et des rois sortiront de toi.
7 And I have established My covenant between Me and you, and your seed after you, throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant, to become God to you, and to your seed after you;
J’établis mon alliance, entre moi et toi et tes descendants après toi, d’âge en âge, en une alliance perpétuelle, pour être ton Dieu et le Dieu de tes descendants après toi.
8 and I have given to you, and to your seed after you, the land of your sojournings, the whole land of Canaan, for a continuous possession, and I have become their God.”
Je te donnerai, à toi et à tes descendants après toi, le pays où tu séjournes comme étranger, tout le pays de Canaan, en possession perpétuelle, et je serai leur Dieu ».
9 And God says to Abraham, “And you keep My covenant, you and your seed after you, throughout their generations;
Dieu dit à Abraham: « Et toi, tu garderas mon alliance, toi et tes descendants après toi, d’âge en âge.
10 this [is] My covenant which you keep between Me and you, and your seed after you: every male of you [is] to be circumcised;
Voici l’alliance que vous avez à garder, l’alliance entre moi et vous, et tes descendants après toi: tout mâle parmi vous sera circoncis.
11 and you have circumcised the flesh of your foreskin, and it has become a token of a covenant between Me and you.
Vous vous circoncirez dans votre chair, et ce sera le signe de l’alliance entre moi et vous.
12 And a son of eight days is circumcised by you; every male throughout your generations, born in the house, or bought with money from any son of a stranger, who is not of your seed;
Quand il aura huit jours, tout mâle parmi vous, d’âge en âge, sera circoncis, qu’il soit né dans la maison, ou qu’il ait été acquis à prix d’argent d’un étranger quelconque, qui n’est pas de ta race.
13 he is certainly circumcised who [is] born in your house, or bought with your money; and My covenant has become in your flesh a perpetual covenant;
On devra circoncire le mâle né dans la maison ou acquis à prix d’argent, et mon alliance sera dans votre chair comme alliance perpétuelle.
14 and an uncircumcised one, a male, the flesh of whose foreskin is not circumcised, indeed, that person has been cut off from his people; My covenant he has broken.”
Un mâle incirconcis, qui n’aura pas été circoncis dans sa chair, sera retranché de son peuple: il aura violé mon alliance. »
15 And God says to Abraham, “Sarai your wife—you do not call her name Sarai, for Sarah [is] her name;
Dieu dit à Abraham: « Tu ne donneras plus à Saraï, ta femme, le nom de Saraï, car son nom est Sara.
16 and I have blessed her, and have also given to you a son from her; and I have blessed her, and she has become nations—kings of peoples are from her.”
Je la bénirai, et je te donnerai aussi d’elle un fils; je la bénirai, et elle deviendra des nations; des rois de peuples sortiront d’elle. »
17 And Abraham falls on his face, and laughs, and says in his heart, “Is one born to the son of one hundred years? Or does Sarah—daughter of ninety years—bear?”
Abraham tomba la face contre terre, et il rit, disant dans son cœur: « Naîtra-t-il un fils à un homme de cent ans? Et Sara, une femme de quatre-vingt-dix ans, enfantera-t-elle? »
18 And Abraham says to God, “O that Ishmael may live before You”;
Et Abraham dit à Dieu: « Oh! qu’Ismaël vive devant votre face! »
19 and God says, “Your wife Sarah is certainly bearing a son to you, and you have called his name Isaac, and I have established My covenant with him, for a perpetual covenant, to his seed after him.
Dieu dit: « Oui, Sara, ta femme, t’enfantera un fils; tu le nommeras Isaac, et j’établirai mon alliance avec lui comme une alliance perpétuelle pour ses descendants après lui.
20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him, and made him fruitful, and multiplied him, very exceedingly; twelve princes does he beget, and I have made him become a great nation;
Quant à Ismaël, je t’ai entendu. Voici, je l’ai béni, je le rendrai fécond et je le multiplierai extrêmement; il engendrera douze princes, et je ferai de lui une grande nation.
21 and My covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah does bear to you at this appointed time in the next year”;
Mais mon alliance, je l’établirai avec Isaac, que Sara t’enfantera l’année prochaine, à cette époque. »
22 and He finishes speaking with him, and God goes up from Abraham.
Et ayant achevé de parler avec lui, Dieu remonta d’auprès d’Abraham.
23 And Abraham takes his son Ishmael, and all those born in his house, and all those bought with his money—every male among the men of Abraham’s house and circumcises the flesh of their foreskin, in this very same day, as God has spoken with him.
Abraham prit Ismaël, son fils, ainsi que tous les serviteurs nés dans sa maison et tous ceux qu’il avait acquis à prix d’argent, tous les mâles parmi les gens de sa maison, et il les circoncit en ce jour même, comme Dieu le lui avait commandé.
24 And Abraham [is] a son of ninety-nine years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;
Abraham était âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans lorsqu’il fut circoncis;
25 and his son Ishmael [is] a son of thirteen years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;
et Ismaël, son fils, avait treize ans lorsqu’il fut circoncis.
26 in this very same day Abraham has been circumcised, and his son Ishmael;
Ce même jour, Abraham fut circoncis, ainsi qu’Ismaël, son fils;
27 and all the men of his house—born in the house, and bought with money from the son of a stranger—have been circumcised with him.
et tous les hommes de sa maison, ceux qui étaient nés chez lui et ceux qui avaient été acquis des étrangers à prix d’argent, furent circoncis avec lui.
