Genesis 16

1 And Sarai, Abram’s wife, has not borne to him, and she has a handmaid, an Egyptian, and her name [is] Hagar;

Y Sarai, mujer de Abram, no le paría; y ella tenía una sierva Egipcia, que se llamaba Agar.

2 and Sarai says to Abram, “Now behold, YHWH has restrained me from bearing, please go in to my handmaid; perhaps I am built up from her”; and Abram listens to the voice of Sarai.

Dijo, pues, Sarai a Abram: He aquí ahora, Jehová me ha vedado de parir: ruégote que entres a mi sierva, quizá tendré hijos de ella. Y obedeció Abram al dicho de Sarai.

3 And Sarai, Abram’s wife, takes Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, at the end of the tenth year of Abram’s dwelling in the land of Canaan, and gives her to her husband Abram—to him for a wife,

Y tomó Sarai, la mujer de Abram, a Agar Egipcia su sierva, al cabo de diez años que había habitado Abram en la tierra de Canaán, y dióla a Abram su marido por mujer.

4 and he goes in to Hagar, and she conceives, and she sees that she has conceived, and her mistress is lightly esteemed in her eyes.

Y él entró a Agar, la cual concibió: y viéndose preñada, menospreciaba a su señora en sus ojos.

5 And Sarai says to Abram, “My violence [is] for you; I have given my handmaid into your bosom, and she sees that she has conceived, and I am lightly esteemed in her eyes; YHWH judges between me and you.”

Entonces Sarai dijo a Abram: Mi afrenta es sobre ti: yo puse mi sierva en tu seno, y viendo que se ha empreñado, soy menospreciada en sus ojos: juzgue Jehová entre mí y ti.

6 And Abram says to Sarai, “Behold, your handmaid [is] in your hand, do to her that which is good in your eyes”; and Sarai afflicted her, and she flees from her presence.

Y respondió Abram a Sarai: He ahí tu sierva en tu mano: haz con ella lo que bueno te pareciere. Entonces Sarai la afligió, y ella se huyó de delante de ella.

7 And the Messenger of YHWH finds her by the fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way [to] Shur,

Y hallóla el ángel de Jehová junto a una fuente de agua en el desierto: junto a la fuente que está en el camino del Sur:

8 and He says, “Hagar, Sarai’s handmaid, from where have you come, and to where do you go?” And she says, “From the presence of Sarai, my mistress, I am fleeing.”

Y díjo la: Agar sierva de Sarai: ¿Dónde? ¿De dónde vienes, y a dónde vas? Y ella respondió: Huyo de delante de Sarai mi señora.

9 And the Messenger of YHWH says to her, “Return to your mistress, and humble yourself under her hands”;

Y díjole el ángel de Jehová: Vuélvete a tu señora, y humíllate debajo de su mano.

10 and the Messenger of YHWH says to her, “Multiplying I multiply your seed, and it is not numbered from multitude”;

Y díjole más el ángel de Jehová: Multiplicando multiplicaré tu simiente, que no será contada por la multitud.

11 and the Messenger of YHWH says to her, “Behold you [are] conceiving, and bearing a son, and have called his name Ishmael, for YHWH has listened to your affliction;

Y díjole más el ángel de Jehová: He aquí, tú estás preñada, y parirás un hijo: y llamarás su nombre Ismael, porque oído ha Jehová tu aflicción.

12 and he is a wild-donkey man, his hand against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him—and before the face of all his brothers he dwells.”

Y él será hombre fiero: su mano contra todos, y las manos de todos contra él, y delante de todos sus hermanos habitará.

13 And she calls the Name of YHWH who is speaking to her, “You [are], O God, my beholder”; for she said, “Even here have I looked behind my beholder?”

Entonces ella llamó el nombre de Jehová, que hablaba con ella: Atta el roi, Tú, Dios, de vista: Porque dijo: ¿No he visto también aquí las espaldas del que me vio?

14 Therefore has one called the well, “The well of the Living One, my beholder”; behold, between Kadesh and Bered.

Por lo cual llamó al pozo: Pozo del Viviente, que me ve. He aquí, está entre Cádes, y Barad.

15 And Hagar bears a son to Abram; and Abram calls the name of his son, whom Hagar has borne, Ishmael;

Y parió Agar a Abram un hijo; y llamó Abram el nombre de su hijo, que le parió Agar, Ismael.

16 and Abram [is] a son of eighty-six years in Hagar’s bearing Ishmael to Abram.

Y Abram era de edad de ochenta y seis años, cuando parió Agar a Ismael.
