< Genesis 16 >
1 And Sarai, Abram’s wife, has not borne to him, and she has a handmaid, an Egyptian, and her name [is] Hagar;
Sarayi, madanm Abram, pa t' janm fè pitit. Sarayi te gen yon sèvant, moun peyi Lejip, yo te rele Aga.
2 and Sarai says to Abram, “Now behold, YHWH has restrained me from bearing, please go in to my handmaid; perhaps I am built up from her”; and Abram listens to the voice of Sarai.
Sarayi di Abram konsa. Gade! Seyè a pa kite mwen fè pitit. Al kouche ak sèvant mwen an non. Ou pa janm konnen, li ka fè pitit pou mwen. Abram tonbe dakò ak sa Sarayi te di l' la.
3 And Sarai, Abram’s wife, takes Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, at the end of the tenth year of Abram’s dwelling in the land of Canaan, and gives her to her husband Abram—to him for a wife,
Se konsa, Sarayi, madanm Abram, pran sèvant li a, Aga ki te moun peyi Lejip, li bay Abram li pou madanm. Lè sa a, Abram te gen tan gen dizan nan peyi Kanaran.
4 and he goes in to Hagar, and she conceives, and she sees that she has conceived, and her mistress is lightly esteemed in her eyes.
Abram kouche ak Aga. Aga vin ansent. Lè Aga wè li ansent, lògèy vire tèt li, li pa gade Sarayi, metrès li, pou anyen ankò.
5 And Sarai says to Abram, “My violence [is] for you; I have given my handmaid into your bosom, and she sees that she has conceived, and I am lightly esteemed in her eyes; YHWH judges between me and you.”
Lè sa a, Sarayi di Abram. Se fòt ou wi si m'ap sibi tout wont sa a. Se mwen menm ki te ba ou sèvant mwen an pou madanm. Men, depi li wè li ansent lan, li pa gade m' pou anyen ankò. Se Seyè a ki pou jije m' avè ou.
6 And Abram says to Sarai, “Behold, your handmaid [is] in your hand, do to her that which is good in your eyes”; and Sarai afflicted her, and she flees from her presence.
Abram reponn Sarayi, li di l'. Sèvant ou pou ou. Li sou zòd ou. Ou gen dwa fè sa ou vle avè l'. Se konsa, Sarayi pran maltrete Aga sitèlman, Aga blije sove kite kay la pou li.
7 And the Messenger of YHWH finds her by the fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way [to] Shur,
Zanj Seyè a kontre Aga bò yon sous dlo nan dezè a sou wout ki mennen nan peyi Chour la.
8 and He says, “Hagar, Sarai’s handmaid, from where have you come, and to where do you go?” And she says, “From the presence of Sarai, my mistress, I am fleeing.”
Li di l' konsa. Aga, sèvant Sarayi, kote ou soti la a? Kote ou prale? Aga reponn. M'ap kouri pou Sarayi, metrès mwen.
9 And the Messenger of YHWH says to her, “Return to your mistress, and humble yourself under her hands”;
Zanj Seyè a di l'. Tounen lakay metrès ou, soumèt ou devan li.
10 and the Messenger of YHWH says to her, “Multiplying I multiply your seed, and it is not numbered from multitude”;
Zanj lan di l' ankò. M'ap ba ou anpil anpil pitit pitit. Moun p'ap ka konte yo.
11 and the Messenger of YHWH says to her, “Behold you [are] conceiving, and bearing a son, and have called his name Ishmael, for YHWH has listened to your affliction;
Zanj lan di l' ankò. Gade! Ou ansent. Ou pral fè yon ti gason. Wa rele l' Izmayèl, paske Seyè a tande rèl ou nan tray w'ap pase a.
12 and he is a wild-donkey man, his hand against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him—and before the face of all his brothers he dwells.”
Pitit gason ou lan va tankou yon bourik mawon. L'ap chache tout moun kont. tout moun va chache l' kont. Li p'ap mele ak tout frè l' yo. L'ap viv pou kont li.
13 And she calls the Name of YHWH who is speaking to her, “You [are], O God, my beholder”; for she said, “Even here have I looked behind my beholder?”
Aga di nan kè l'. Ou kwè se vre se mwen ki wè moun ki wè m' lan? Se konsa li bay Seyè a yon non, li rele l': Ou se Bondye ki wè m' lan.
14 Therefore has one called the well, “The well of the Living One, my beholder”; behold, between Kadesh and Bered.
Se poutèt sa, yo rele pi dlo ki ant Kadès ak Barèd la: Pi moun vivan ki wè m' lan.
15 And Hagar bears a son to Abram; and Abram calls the name of his son, whom Hagar has borne, Ishmael;
Aga fè yon pitit gason pou Abram. Abram rele pitit la Izmayèl.
16 and Abram [is] a son of eighty-six years in Hagar’s bearing Ishmael to Abram.
Abram te gen katrevensizan lè Aga te fè Izmayèl.
