Genesis 14
1 And it comes to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations,
Al tempo di Amrafel re di Sennaar, di Arioch re di Ellasar, di Chedorlaomer re dell'Elam e di Tideal re di Goim,
2 they have made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which [is] Zoar.
costoro mossero guerra contro Bera re di Sòdoma, Birsa re di Gomorra, Sinab re di Adma, Semeber re di Zeboim, e contro il re di Bela, cioè Zoar.
3 All these have been joined together to the Valley of Siddim, which [is] the Salt Sea;
Tutti questi si concentrarono nella valle di Siddim, cioè il Mar Morto.
4 [for] twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and the thirteenth year they rebelled.
Per dodici anni essi erano stati sottomessi a Chedorlaomer, ma il tredicesimo anno si erano ribellati.
5 And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings who [are] with him, and they strike the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim,
Nell'anno quattordicesimo arrivarono Chedorlaomer e i re che erano con lui e sconfissero i Refaim ad Astarot-Karnaim, gli Zuzim ad Am, gli Emim a Save-Kiriataim
6 and the Horites in their Mount Seir, to El-Paran, which [is] by the wilderness;
e gli Hurriti sulle montagne di Seir fino a El-Paran, che è presso il deserto.
7 and they turn back and come to En-Mishpat, which [is] Kadesh, and strike the whole field of the Amalekite, and also the Amorite who is dwelling in Hazezon-Tamar.
Poi mutarono direzione e vennero a En-Mispat, cioè Kades, e devastarono tutto il territorio degli Amaleciti e anche degli Amorrei che abitavano in Azazon-Tamar.
8 And the king of Sodom goes out, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which [is] Zoar; and they set in array [for] battle with them in the Valley of Siddim,
Allora il re di Sòdoma, il re di Gomorra, il re di Adma, il re di Zeboim e il re di Bela, cioè Zoar, uscirono e si schierarono a battaglia nella valle di Siddim contro di esso,
9 with Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with the five.
e cioè contro Chedorlaomer re dell'Elam, Tideal re di Goim, Amrafel re di Sennaar e Arioch re di Ellasar: quattro re contro cinque.
10 And the Valley of Siddim [is] full of bitumen-pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah flee, and fall there, and those left have fled to the mountain.
Ora la valle di Siddim era piena di pozzi di bitume; mentre il re di Sòdoma e il re di Gomorra si davano alla fuga, alcuni caddero nei pozzi e gli altri fuggirono sulle montagne.
11 And they take the whole substance of Sodom and Gomorrah, and the whole of their food, and go away;
Gli invasori presero tutti i beni di Sodoma e Gomorra e tutti i loro viveri e se ne andarono.
12 and they take Lot, Abram’s brother’s son (seeing he is dwelling in Sodom), and his substance, and go away.
Andandosene catturarono anche Lot, figlio del fratello di Abram, e i suoi beni: egli risiedeva appunto in Sòdoma.
13 And one who is escaping comes and declares to Abram the Hebrew, and he is dwelling among the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner, and they [are] Abram’s allies.
Ma un fuggiasco venne ad avvertire Abram l'Ebreo che si trovava alle Querce di Mamre l'Amorreo, fratello di Escol e fratello di Aner i quali erano alleati di Abram.
14 And Abram hears that his brother has been taken captive, and he draws out his trained servants, three hundred and eighteen, and pursues to Dan.
Quando Abram seppe che il suo parente era stato preso prigioniero, organizzò i suoi uomini esperti nelle armi, schiavi nati nella sua casa, in numero di trecentodiciotto, e si diede all'inseguimento fino a Dan.
15 And he divides himself against them by night, he and his servants, and strikes them, and pursues them to Hobah, which [is] at the left of Damascus;
Piombò sopra di essi di notte, lui con i suoi servi, li sconfisse e proseguì l'inseguimento fino a Coba, a settentrione di Damasco.
16 and he brings back the whole of the substance, and he has also brought back his brother Lot and his substance, and also the women and the people.
Ricuperò così tutta la roba e anche Lot suo parente, i suoi beni, con le donne e il popolo.
17 And the king of Sodom goes out to meet him (after his turning back from the striking of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings who [are] with him), to the Valley of Shaveh, which [is] the king’s valley.
Quando Abram fu di ritorno, dopo la sconfitta di Chedorlaomer e dei re che erano con lui, il re di Sòdoma gli uscì incontro nella Valle di Save, cioè la Valle del re.
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem has brought out bread and wine, and he [is] priest of God Most High;
Intanto Melchisedek, re di Salem, offrì pane e vino: era sacerdote del Dio altissimo
19 and he blesses him and says, “Blessed [is] Abram to God Most High, possessing the heavens and earth;
«Sia benedetto Abram dal Dio altissimo, creatore del cielo e della terra, e benedisse Abram con queste parole:
20 and blessed [is] God Most High, who has delivered your adversaries into your hand”; and he gives to him a tenth of all.
e benedetto sia il Dio altissimo, che ti ha messo in mano i tuoi nemici». Abram gli diede la decima di tutto.
21 And the king of Sodom says to Abram, “Give to me the persons, and take the substance to yourself,”
Poi il re di Sòdoma disse ad Abram: «Dammi le persone; i beni prendili per te».
22 and Abram says to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand to YHWH, God Most High, possessing the heavens and earth—
Ma Abram disse al re di Sòdoma: «Alzo la mano davanti al Signore, il Dio altissimo, creatore del cielo e della terra:
23 from a thread even to a shoe-strap I do not take of anything which you have, that you do not say, I have made Abram rich;
né un filo, né un legaccio di sandalo, niente io prenderò di ciò che è tuo; non potrai dire: io ho arricchito Abram.
24 save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who have gone with me—Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre—they take their portion.”
Per me niente, se non quello che i servi hanno mangiato; quanto a ciò che spetta agli uomini che sono venuti con me, Escol, Aner e Mamre, essi stessi si prendano la loro parte».
