Genesis 1

1 In [the] beginning God created the heavens and the earth,

١ فِي الْبَدْءِ خَلَقَ اللهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ،

2 and the earth was formless and void, and darkness [was] on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God [was] fluttering on the face of the waters,

٢ وَإِذْ كَانَتِ الأَرْضُ مُشَوَّشَةً وَمُقْفِرَةً وَتَكْتَنِفُ الظُّلْمَةُ وَجْهَ الْمِيَاهِ، وَإِذْ كَانَ رُوحُ اللهِ يُرَفْرِفُ عَلَى سَطْحِ الْمِيَاهِ،

3 and God says, “Let light be”; and light is.

٣ أَمَرَ اللهُ: «لِيَكُنْ نُورٌ». فَصَارَ نُورٌ،

4 And God sees that the light [is] good, and God separates between the light and the darkness,

٤ وَرَأَى اللهُ النُّورَ فَاسْتَحْسَنَهُ وَفَصَلَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الظَّلامِ.

5 and God calls the light “Day,” and the darkness He has called “Night”; and there is an evening, and there is a morning—day one.

٥ وَسَمَّى اللهُ النُّورَ نَهَاراً، أَمَّا الظَّلامُ فَسَمَّاهُ لَيْلاً. وَهَكَذَا جَاءَ مَسَاءٌ أَعْقَبَهُ صَبَاحٌ، فَكَانَ الْيَوْمَ الأَوَّلَ.

6 And God says, “Let an expanse be in the midst of the waters, and let it be separating between waters and waters.”

٦ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ اللهُ: «لِيَكُنْ جَلَدٌ يَحْجُزُ بَيْنَ مِيَاهٍ وَمِيَاهٍ».

7 And God makes the expanse, and it separates between the waters which [are] under the expanse, and the waters which [are] above the expanse: and it is so.

٧ فَخَلَقَ اللهُ الْجَلَدَ، وَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَ الْمِيَاهِ الَّتِي تَحْمِلُهَا السُّحُبُ وَالْمِيَاهِ الَّتِي تَغْمُرُ الأَرْضَ. وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.

8 And God calls the expanse “Heavens”; and there is an evening, and there is a morning—[the] second day.

٨ وَسَمَّى اللهُ الْجَلَدَ سَمَاءً. ثُمَّ جَاءَ مَسَاءٌ أَعْقَبَهُ صَبَاحٌ فَكَانَ الْيَوْمَ الثَّانِي.

9 And God says, “Let the waters under the heavens be collected to one place, and let the dry land be seen”: and it is so.

٩ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ اللهُ: «لِتَتَجَمَّعِ الْمِيَاهُ الَّتِي تَحْتَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى مَوْضِعٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَلْتَظْهَرِ الْيَابِسَةُ». وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.

10 And God calls the dry land “Earth,” and the collection of the waters He has called “Seas”; and God sees that [it is] good.

١٠ وَسَمَّى اللهُ الْيَابِسَةَ أَرْضاً وَالْمِيَاهَ الْمُجْتَمِعَةَ بِحَاراً. وَرَأَى اللهُ ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَحْسَنَهُ.

11 And God says, “Let the earth yield tender grass, herb sowing seed, fruit-tree (whose seed [is] in itself) making fruit after its kind, on the earth”: and it is so.

١١ وَأَمَرَ اللهُ: «لِتُنْبِتِ الأَرْضُ خُضْرَةً، وَشَجَراً مُثْمِراً فِيهِ بِزْرُهُ الَّذِي يُنْتِجُ ثَمَراً كَجِنْسِهِ فِي الأَرْضِ». وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.

12 And the earth brings forth tender grass, herb sowing seed after its kind, and tree making fruit (whose seed [is] in itself) after its kind; and God sees that [it is] good;

١٢ فَأَنْبَتَتِ الأَرْضُ كُلَّ أَنْوَاعِ الأَعْشَابِ وَالْبُقُولِ الَّتِي تَحْمِلُ بُزُوراً مِنْ جِنْسِهَا، وَالأَشْجَارَ الَّتِي تَحْمِلُ أَثْمَاراً ذَاتَ بُذُورٍ حَسَبَ نَوْعِهَا. وَرَأَى اللهُ ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَحْسَنَهُ.

13 and there is an evening, and there is a morning—[the] third day.

١٣ وَجَاءَ مَسَاءٌ أَعْقَبَهُ صَبَاحٌ فَكَانَ الْيَوْمَ الثَّالِثَ.

14 And God says, “Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to make a separation between the day and the night, then they have been for signs, and for appointed times, and for days and years,

١٤ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ اللهُ: «لِتَكُنْ أَنْوَارٌ فِي قُبَّةِ السَّمَاءِ لِتُفَرِّقَ بَيْنَ النَّهَارِ وَاللَّيْلِ، فَتَكُونَ عَلَامَاتٍ لِتَحْدِيدِ أَزْمِنَةٍ وَأَيَّامٍ وَسِنِينَ.

15 and they have been for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”: and it is so.

١٥ وَتَكُونَ أَيْضاً أَنْوَاراً فِي قُبَّةِ السَّمَاءِ لِتُضِيءَ الأَرْضَ». وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.

16 And God makes the two great luminaries, the great luminary for the rule of the day, and the small luminary—and the stars—for the rule of the night;

١٦ وَخَلَقَ اللهُ نُورَيْنِ عَظِيمَيْنِ، النُّورَ الأَكْبَرَ لِيُشْرِقَ فِي النَّهَارِ، وَالنُّورَ الأَصْغَرَ لِيُضِيءَ فِي اللَّيْلِ، كَمَا خَلَقَ النُّجُومَ أَيْضاً.

17 and God gives them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,

١٧ وَجَعَلَهَا اللهُ فِي قُبَّةِ السَّمَاءِ لِتُضِيءَ الأَرْضَ،

18 and to rule over day and over night, and to make a separation between the light and the darkness; and God sees that [it is] good;

١٨ لِتَتَحَكَّمَ بِالنَّهَارِ وَبِاللَّيْلِ وَلِتُفَرِّقَ بَيْنَ النُّورِ وَالظَّلامِ. وَرَأَى اللهُ ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَحْسَنَهُ.

19 and there is an evening, and there is a morning—[the] fourth day.

١٩ وَجَاءَ مَسَاءٌ أَعْقَبَهُ صَبَاحٌ فَكَانَ الْيَوْمَ الرَّابِعَ.

20 And God says, “Let the waters teem with the teeming living creature, and let [the] bird fly above the earth on the face of the expanse of the heavens.”

٢٠ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ اللهُ: «لِتَمْتَلِئِ الْمِيَاهُ بِشَتَّى الْحَيَوَانَاتِ الْحَيَّةِ وَلْتُحَلِّقِ الطُّيُورُ فَوْقَ الأَرْضِ عَبْرَ فَضَاءِ السَّمَاءِ».

21 And God creates the great dragons, and every living creature that is creeping, which the waters have teemed with, after their kind, and every bird with wing, after its kind, and God sees that [it is] good.

٢١ وَهَكَذَا خَلَقَ اللهُ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ الْمَائِيَّةَ الضَّخْمَةَ، وَالْكَائِنَاتِ الْحَيَّةَ الَّتِي امْتَلأَتْ بِها الْمِيَاهُ، كُلًّا حَسَبَ أَجْنَاسِهَا، وَأَيْضاً الطُّيُورَ وَفْقاً لأَنْوَاعِهَا. وَرَأَى اللهُ ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَحْسَنَهُ.

22 And God blesses them, saying, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the bird multiply in the earth”:

٢٢ وَبَارَكَهَا اللهُ قَائِلاً: «انْتِجِي، وَتَكَاثَرِي وَامْلإِي مِيَاهَ الْبِحَارِ. وَلْتَتَكَاثَرِ الطُّيُورُ فَوْقَ الأَرْضِ».

23 and there is an evening, and there is a morning—[the] fifth day.

٢٣ ثُمَّ جَاءَ مَسَاءٌ أَعْقَبَهُ صَبَاحٌ فَكَانَ الْيَوْمَ الْخَامِسَ.

24 And God says, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, livestock and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind”: and it is so.

٢٤ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ اللهُ: «لِتُخْرِجِ الأَرْضُ كَائِنَاتٍ حَيَّةً، كُلًّا حَسَبَ جِنْسِهَا، مِنْ بَهَائِمَ وَزَوَاحِفَ وَوُحُوشٍ وَفْقاً لأَنْوَاعِهَا». وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.

25 And God makes the beast of the earth after its kind, and the livestock after their kind, and every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, and God sees that [it is] good.

٢٥ فَخَلَقَ اللهُ وُحُوشَ الأَرْضِ، وَالْبَهَائِمَ وَالزَّوَاحِفَ، كُلًّا حَسَبَ نَوْعِهَا. وَرَأَى اللهُ ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَحْسَنَهُ.

26 And God says, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over [the] fish of the sea, and over [the] bird of the heavens, and over livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth.”

٢٦ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِنَصْنَعِ الإِنْسَانَ عَلَى صُورَتِنَا، كَمِثَالِنَا، فَيَتَسَلَّطَ عَلَى سَمَكِ الْبَحْرِ، وَعَلَى طَيْرِ السَّمَاءِ، وَعَلَى الأَرْضِ، وَعَلَى كُلِّ زَاحِفٍ يَزْحَفُ عَلَيْهَا».

27 And God creates the man in His image; in the image of God He created him, a male and a female He created them.

٢٧ فَخَلَقَ اللهُ الإِنْسَانَ عَلَى صُورَتِهِ. عَلَى صُورَةِ اللهِ خَلَقَهُ. ذَكَراً وَأُنْثَى خَلَقَهُمْ.

28 And God blesses them, and God says to them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over [the] fish of the sea, and over [the] bird of the heavens, and over every living thing that is creeping on the earth.”

٢٨ وَبَارَكَهُمُ اللهُ قَائِلاً لَهُمْ: «أَثْمِرُوا وَتَكَاثَرُوا وَامْلَأُوا الأَرْضَ وَأَخْضِعُوهَا. وَتَسَلَّطُوا عَلَى سَمَكِ الْبَحْرِ، وَعَلَى طَيْرِ السَّمَاءِ وَعَلَى كُلِّ حَيَوَانٍ يَتَحَرَّكُ عَلَى الأَرْضِ».

29 And God says, “Behold, I have given to you every herb sowing seed, which [is] on the face of all the earth, and every tree in which [is] the fruit of a tree sowing seed, to you it is for food;

٢٩ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ: «إِنِّي قَدْ أَعْطَيْتُكُمْ كُلَّ أَصْنَافِ النَّبَاتَاتِ ذَاتِ الْبُذُورِ الْمُنْتَشِرَةِ عَلَى كُلِّ سَطْحِ الأَرْضِ، وَكُلَّ شَجَرٍ يَحْمِلُ ثَمَراً فِيهِ بُذُورٌ، لِتَكُونَ لَكُمْ طَعَاماً.

30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to every creeping thing on the earth, in which [is] breath of life, every green herb [is] for food”: and it is so.

٣٠ أَمَّا الْعُشْبُ الأَخْضَرُ فَقَدْ جَعَلْتُهُ طَعَاماً لِوُحُوشِ الأَرْضِ وَلِطُيُورِ السَّمَاءِ وَالْحَيَوَانَاتِ الزَّاحِفَةِ، وَلجَمِيعِ الْكَائِنَاتِ الْحَيَّةِ». وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.

31 And God sees all that He has done, and behold, [it is] very good; and there is an evening, and there is a morning—the sixth day.

٣١ وَرَأَى اللهُ مَا خَلَقَهُ فَاسْتَحْسَنَهُ جِدّاً. ثُمَّ جَاءَ مَسَاءٌ أَعْقَبَهُ صَبَاحٌ فَكَانَ الْيَوْمَ السَّادِسُ.
