Ezra 10

1 And at Ezra’s praying, and at his making confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there have been gathered to him out of Israel a very great assembly—men and women and children—for the people have wept, multiplying weeping.

ইষ্রা যখন ঈশ্বরের গৃহের সামনে প্রণত হয়ে প্রার্থনা, পাপস্বীকার ও ক্রন্দন করছিলেন, তখন ইস্রায়েলীদের পুরুষ, মহিলা ও শিশুসহ এক বিরাট জনতা তার চারিদিকে সমবেত হল। তারাও তীব্র ক্রন্দন করতে লাগল।

2 And Shechaniah son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, answers and says to Ezra, “We have trespassed against our God, and we settle strange women of the peoples of the land; and now there is hope for Israel concerning this,

তখন এলম বংশজাত যিহীয়েলের পুত্র শখনিয় ইষ্রাকে বলল, “আমরা আমাদের চতুর্দিকে বিজাতীয়দের মধ্য থেকে মহিলাদের মনোনীত করে মিশ্র-বিবাহের দ্বারা ঈশ্বরের প্রতি অবিশ্বস্ত হয়েছি। তবুও ইস্রায়েলীদের পক্ষে এখনও এক প্রত্যাশা আছে।

3 and now, let us make a covenant with our God, to cause all the women to go out, and that which is born of them, by the counsel of the Lord, and of those trembling at the command of our God, and according to law it is done;

এখন আসুন, আমরা আমাদের প্রভুর ও যারা আমাদের ঈশ্বরের আজ্ঞাগুলিকে ভয় করে, তাদের পরামর্শ অনুসারে ঈশ্বরের সামনে এক নিয়ম সম্পাদন করে ওই সমস্ত স্ত্রীলোকদের ও তাদের সন্তানদের ত্যাগ করি।

4 rise, for on you [is] the matter, and we [are] with you; be strong, and do.”

আপনি উঠুন; বিষয়টি আপনার হাতেই রয়েছে, আমরা আপনাকে সমর্থন জানাব, নির্ভয়ে এই কাজটি করুন।”

5 And Ezra rises, and causes the heads of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear to do according to this word—and they swear.

তখন ইষ্রা উঠলেন এবং সেইমতো সমস্ত বিশিষ্ট যাজক, লেবীয় ও সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলকে শপথ করালেন এবং তারা সকলে শপথও গ্রহণ করলেন।

6 And Ezra rises from before the house of God, and goes to the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib; indeed, he goes there, bread he has not eaten, and water he has not drunk, for he is mourning because of the trespass of the expulsion.

এরপর ইষ্রা ঈশ্বরের গৃহের সামনে থেকে উঠে ইলীয়াশীবের পুত্র যিহোহাননের বাড়িতে গেলেন। সেখানে যাওয়ার আগে তিনি যতক্ষণ সেখানে ছিলেন ততক্ষণ কোনও খাদ্যগ্রহণ বা জলপান করলেন না; কারণ তিনি তখনও নির্বাসিতদের অবিশ্বস্ততার জন্যে শোক পালন করছিলেন।

7 And they cause a voice to pass over into Judah and Jerusalem, to all sons of the expulsion, to be gathered to Jerusalem,

এরপর সমগ্র যিহূদা এবং জেরুশালেমের বসবাসকারী নির্বাসিতদের উদ্দেশে এই আজ্ঞা ঘোষিত হল যেন তারা জেরুশালেমে এসে সমবেত হয়।

8 and everyone who does not come in by the third day, according to the counsel of the heads and the elderly, all his substance is devoted, and himself separated from the assembly of the expulsion.

তিনদিনের মধ্যে যদি কেউ না আসতে পারে তাহলে তার সম্পত্তি বাজেয়াপ্ত করা হবে। সরকারি প্রধানদের ও প্রাচীনদের সিদ্ধান্ত মতোই একথা জানানো হল যে সেই লোককে নির্বাসিতদের সমাজ থেকে বহিষ্কারও করা হবে।

9 And all the men of Judah and Benjamin are gathered to Jerusalem by the third day, it [is] the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month, and all the people sit in the broad place of the house of God, trembling on account of the matter and of the showers.

তিনদিনের মধ্যে যিহূদা ও বিন্যামীনের সমস্ত পুরুষ জেরুশালেমে সমবেত হল। নবম মাসে বিংশতিতম দিনে সকলে যখন ঈশ্বরের গৃহের সামনে চত্বরে বসে সেই বিষয়ে আলোচনা করছিল তখন এই বিষয়টি ও প্রবল বৃষ্টিপাতের জন্য তারা হতাশায় বিহ্বল হয়ে পড়ল।

10 And Ezra the priest rises and says to them, “You have trespassed, and you settle strange women, to add to the guilt of Israel;

তখন যাজক ইষ্রা দাড়িয়ে উঠে তাদের বললেন, “তোমরা অবিশ্বস্ত হয়েছ; তোমরা বিদেশি মহিলাদের বিয়ে করে ইস্রায়েলীদের অপরাধের বোঝা বাড়িয়ে তুলেছ।

11 and now, make confession to YHWH, God of your fathers, and do His good pleasure, and be separated from the peoples of the land, and from the strange women.”

এখন তোমরা তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের আরাধ্য ঈশ্বর, সদাপ্রভুর কাছে পাপস্বীকার করো এবং তাঁর অভিপ্রায় পালন করো। তোমরা তোমাদের চতুর্দিকের লোকেদের ও বিজাতীয় স্ত্রীদের সঙ্গে সব সংস্রব ত্যাগ করো।”

12 And all the assembly answers and says [with] a great voice, “Right; according to your word—on us to do;

সমবেত সকলে উচ্চরবে ঘোষণা করল, “আপনি ঠিকই বলছেন! আপনি যা বলছেন আমাদের তাই-ই করা উচিত।

13 but the people [are] many, and [it is] the time of showers, and there is no power to stand outside, and the work [is] not for one day, nor for two, for we have multiplied to transgress in this thing.

কিন্তু এখানে অনেকে সমবেত হয়েছে এবং এখন ভারী বর্ষার সময় চলছে; সেইজন্য আমরা বাইরে দাঁড়াতে পারছি না। এছাড়া বিষয়টি দুই-একদিনের মধ্যে নিষ্পন্ন করা যাবে না কারণ আমরা মহাপাপ করেছি।

14 Please let our heads of all the assembly stand; and all who [are] in our cities, who have settled strange wives, come in at [the] appointed times, and with them [the] elderly of city and city, and judges in it, until the turning back of the fury of the wrath of our God from us, for this thing.”

অতএব আমাদের এই বিষয়টিকে যথাযথভাবে বিচার করার জন্য আমাদের কর্মকর্তাদের নিযুক্ত করা হোক। এরপর আমাদের নগরগুলিতে যারা বিজাতীয় মহিলাদের বিয়ে করেছে তার এবং তাদের সঙ্গে নগরের প্রাচীনেরা ও বিচারপতিরা একটি নিরূপিত সময়ে এখানে আসুক, যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত এ বিষয়ে আমাদের ঈশ্বরের মহারোষ প্রশমিত হয়ে আমাদের থেকে দূরে সরে না যায়।”

15 Only Jonathan son of Asahel, and Jahaziah son of Tikvah, stood against this, and Meshullam, and Shabbethai the Levite, helped them.

এই প্রস্তাবের বিরুদ্ধে মত রাখল কেবল অসহেলের পুত্র যোনাথন ও তিকবের পুত্র যহসিয় এবং তাদের সমর্থন জানাল মশুল্লম ও লেবীয় বংশজাত শব্বথয়।

16 And the sons of the expulsion do so, and Ezra the priest, [and] men, heads of the fathers, for the house of their fathers, are separated, even all of them by name, and they sit on the first day of the tenth month, to examine the matter;

সেই প্রস্তাব মতো নির্বাসন থেকে আগতরা এ সমস্ত কিছু যথাযথভাবে পালন করল। যাজক ইষ্রা এবং নিজ নিজ পিতৃকুল এবং নাম অনুসারে প্রত্যেক পরিবারে প্রধানকে নিযুক্ত করলেন এবং দশম মাসের প্রথম দিনে তারা সেই বিষয়ে অনুসন্ধান করার কাজে ব্রতী হলেন।

17 and they finish with all the men who have settled strange women to the first day of the first month.

প্রথম মাসের প্রথম দিনের মধ্যে যারা বিজাতীয় মহিলা বিয়ে করেছিল তাদের বিচার নিষ্পন্ন করলেন।

18 And there are found of the sons of the priests that have settled strange women: of the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brothers, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah;

যাজক সম্প্রদায়ের সন্তানদের মধ্যে যারা বিজাতীয় মহিলাদের বিয়ে করেছিল: যিহোষাদকের পুত্র যেশূয় তাঁর ছেলে ও ভাইদের মধ্যে মাসেয়, ইলীয়েষর, যারিব ও গদলিয়।

19 and they give their hand to send out their wives, and being guilty, a ram of the flock for their guilt.

(তারা সকলে তাদের স্ত্রীদের ত্যাগ করার জন্য হাত রাখল এবং তাদের অপরাধের জন্য প্রত্যেকে তাদের পালের মধ্যে থেকে একটি মেষ দোষার্থক-নৈবেদ্যরূপে উৎসর্গ করল)

20 And of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah;

ইম্মেরের ছেলেদের মধ্যে: হনানি ও সবদিয়,

21 and of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah;

হারীমের ছেলেদের মধ্যে: মাসেয়, এলিয়, শময়িয়, যিহীয়েল এবং উষিয়।

22 and of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

পশ্‌হূরের ছেলেদের মধ্যে: ইলীয়ৈনয়, মাসেয়, ইশ্মায়েল, নথনেল, যোষাবদ এবং ইলিয়াসা।

23 And of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (he [is] Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

লেবীয়দের সম্প্রদায়ের মধ্যে: যোষাবদ, শিমিয়ি, কলায় (অথবা কলীট), পথাহিয়, যিহূদা এবং ইলীয়েষর।

24 And of the singers: Eliashib. And of the gatekeepers: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.

গায়ক সম্প্রদায়ের মধ্যে: ইলীয়াশীব। দ্বাররক্ষীদের মধ্যে: শল্লুম, টেলম এবং উরি।

25 And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchijah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

এবং অন্যান্য ইস্রায়েলীদের মধ্যে: পরোশের সন্তানদের মধ্যে: রমিয়, যিষিয়, মল্কিয়, মিয়ামীন, ইলিয়াসর, মল্কিয় ও বনায়।

26 And of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.

এলমের সন্তানদের মধ্যে: মত্তনিয়, সখরিয়, যিহীয়েল, অব্দি, যিরেমোৎ এবং এলিয়।

27 And of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

সত্তূরের সন্তানদের মধ্যে: ইলীয়ৈনয়, ইলীয়াশীব, মত্তনিয়, যিরেমোৎ, সাবদ ও অসীসা।

28 And of the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.

বেবয়ের সন্তানদের মধ্যে: যিহোহানন, হনানিয়, সব্বয়, অৎলয়।

29 And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

বানির সন্তানদের মধ্যে: মশুল্লম, মল্লূক, অদায়া, যাশূব, শাল ও যিরমোৎ।

30 And of the sons of Pahath-Moab: Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

পহৎ-মোয়াবের সন্তানদের মধ্যে: অদন, কলাল, বনায়, মাসেয়, মত্তনিয়, বৎসলেল, বিন্নূয়ী এবং মনঃশি।

31 And of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Ishijah, Malchiah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

হারীমের সন্তানদের মধ্যে: ইলীয়েষর, যিশিয়, মল্কিয়, শময়িয়, শিমিয়োন,

32 Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.

বিন্যামীন, মল্লূক, শমরিয়।

33 Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.

হশুমের সন্তানদের মধ্যে: মত্তনয়, মত্তত্ত, সাবদ, ইলীফেলট, যিরেময়, মনঃশি, শিমিয়ি

34 Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, and Uel,

বানির সন্তানদের মধ্যে: মাদয়, অম্রাম, উয়েল,

35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhu,

বনায়, বেদিয়া, কলূহূ,

36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,

বনিয়, মরেমোৎ, ইলীয়াশীব,

37 Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasau,

মত্তনিয়, মত্তনয় এবং যাসয়,

38 and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei,

বানি, বিন্নূয়ী, শিমিয়ি

39 and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah,

শেলিমিয়, নাথন, অদায়া,

40 Machnadbai, Shashai, Sharai,

মক্নদ্‌বয়, শাশয়, শারয়

41 Azareel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah,

অসরেল, শেলিমিয়, শমরিয়

42 Shallum, Amariah, Joseph.

শল্লুম, অমরিয় এবং যোষেফ।

43 Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, and Joel, Benaiah;

নেবোর সন্তানদের মধ্যে: যিয়ীয়েল, মত্তিথিয়, সাবদ, সবীনা, যাদয়, যোয়েল এবং বনায়।

44 all these have taken strange women, and there are of them women who adopt sons.

এরা সকলে বিজাতীয় মহিলা বিয়ে করেছিল এবং এই স্ত্রীদের গর্ভজাত সন্তানেরাও আছে।
