Ezekiel 41

1 And he brings me into the temple, and he measures the posts, six cubits the breadth on this side and six cubits the breadth on that side—the breadth of the tent.

He took me to the Temple and measured the posts as cubits wide on both sides.

2 And the breadth of the opening [is] ten cubits; and the sides of the opening [are] five cubits on this side and five cubits on that side; and he measures its length—forty cubits, and the breadth—twenty cubits.

The entrance was ten cubits wide, and the sides of the entrance were five cubits long on both sides. He measured the outer sanctuary as forty cubits long and twenty cubits wide.

3 And he has gone inward, and measures the post of the opening—two cubits, and the opening—six cubits, and the breadth of the opening—seven cubits.

He went into the inner sanctuary and measured the entrance posts as two cubits wide. The entrance was six cubits wide, and the walls on both sides were seven cubits wide.

4 And he measures its length—twenty cubits, and the breadth—twenty cubits, to the front of the temple, and he says to me, “This [is] the Holy of Holies.”

He measured the room beside the inner sanctuary as twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. He told me, “This is the Most Holy Place.”

5 And he measures the wall of the house—six cubits, and the breadth of the side-chamber—four cubits, all around the house.

He measured Temple wall as six cubits thick, and each side room around the Temple was four cubits wide.

6 And the side-chambers [are] side-chamber by side-chamber, thirty-three times; and they are entering into the wall—which the house has for the side-chambers all around—to be taken hold of, and they are not taken hold of by the wall of the house.

There were three levels of side rooms above one another, each having thirty rooms. The wall of the Temple had external supports for the side rooms, so that they would not be fixed into the wall of the Temple itself.

7 And it has become wider when one has turned even higher toward the side-chambers, for the encompassment of the house [is] even higher all around the house: therefore the breadth of the house [goes] upwards, and so the lower [story] goes up to the higher by the middle.

The side rooms around the Temple became wider at each higher level, because as the structure around the Temple went up the Temple wall grew narrower A stairway provided access from the bottom story to the top, going through the middle level.

8 And I have looked at the height all around the house: the foundations of the side-chambers [are] the fullness of the reed, six cubits by the joining.

I saw that the Temple was on a raised platform that surrounded it. This was the foundation for the side rooms. Its height was the complete length of a measuring rod, six long cubits.

9 The breadth of that wall, of the side-chamber, at the outside, [is] five cubits; and the space remaining of the side-chambers—that of the house,

The thickness of the outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits, and there was open space between the side rooms of the Temple

10 and between the chambers—[is] a breadth of twenty cubits around the house, all around.

and the outer chambers that measured twenty cubits wide all round the Temple.

11 And the opening of the side-chamber [is] to the remaining [space], one opening northward and one opening southward, and the breadth of the remaining space [is] five cubits all around.

The doors of the side rooms opened into this area, with one entrance to the north and another one to the south. The open space was five cubits wide on each side.

12 As for the building that [is] at the front of the separate place [at] the corner westward, the breadth [is] seventy cubits, and the wall of the building [is] five cubits broad all around, and its length—ninety cubits.

Another building faced the Temple courtyard on the west side. It measured seventy cubits wide and ninety cubits long, with walls all the way round that were five cubits thick.

13 And he has measured the house, the length [is] one hundred cubits; and the separate place, and the building, and its walls, the length [is] one hundred cubits;

He measured the Temple as one hundred cubits long. The Temple courtyard and the building including its walls were also one hundred cubits long.

14 and the breadth of the front of the house, and of the separate place eastward—one hundred cubits.

The Temple courtyard on the east side, (including the front of the Temple), was one hundred cubits wide.

15 And he has measured the length of the building to the front of the separate place that [is] at its back part, and its galleries on this side and on that side—one hundred cubits. And the inner temple and the porches of the court,

He measured the length of the building that faced the Temple courtyard towards the rear of the Temple, including its open halls on each side. It was one hundred cubits long. The outer sanctuary, the inner sanctuary, and the porches facing the courtyard,

16 the thresholds, and the narrow windows, and the galleries around the three of them, opposite the threshold, [were] paneled with wood all around—and the ground to the windows, and the windows were covered,

as well as the thresholds and the narrow windows and the surrounding open halls with their three levels up to and including the threshold, were covered with wood on every side. This extended from the ground up to and including the windows.

17 over above the opening, and to the inner-house, and at the outside, and by all the wall all around inside and outside [by] measurements.

On the outside of all the walls by the entrance to the inner sanctuary, spaced at regular intervals around the inner and outer sanctuary,

18 And it is made [with] cherubim and palm-trees, and a palm-tree [is] between cherub and cherub, and two faces [are] on the cherub;

were carved designs of cherubim and palm trees. Every cherub had two faces:

19 and the face of a man toward the palm-tree on this side and the face of a young lion toward the palm-tree on that side; it is made to all the house all around.

a man's face looked in the direction of a palm tree on one side, and the face of a young lion looked in the direction of the palm tree on the other side. These carvings extended the whole way round the Temple.

20 From the earth to above the opening the cherubim and the palm-trees [were] made, and [on] the wall of the temple.

Designs of cherubim and palm trees were carved on the Temple wall from the floor up to the space above the doorway.

21 The doorpost of the temple [is] square, and of the front of the sanctuary, the appearance [is] as that appearance.

The Temple's doorframe was rectangular, as was the doorframe of the sanctuary.

22 Of the altar, the wood [is] three cubits in height, and its length—two cubits; and its corners [are] to it, and its length, and its walls [are] of wood, and he speaks to me, “This [is] the table that [is] before YHWH.”

An altar made of wood stood there, three cubits high and two cubits by long. All of it—its corners, base, and sides—were made of wood. The man told me, “This is the table that stands before the Lord.”

23 And the temple and the sanctuary had two doors;

The Temple and the sanctuary both had hinged double doors.

24 and the doors had two panels, two turning panels: two on one door, and two panels on the other.

Each door had two panels that opened. There were two panels for one door, and two panels for the other door.

25 And made on them, on the doors of the temple, [are] cherubim and palm-trees as are made on the walls, and a thickness of wood [is] at the front of the porch on the outside.

There were carvings of cherubim and palm trees on the Temple doors like those on the walls, and there was a wooden roof that covered the outside part of the porch at the front.

26 And narrow windows and palm-trees [are] on this side and on that side, at the sides of the porch, and the side-chambers of the house, and the thick places.

There were narrow windows and palm tree designs on the walls of the porch. The side rooms of the Temple also had roofs.
