Ezekiel 20
1 And it comes to pass, in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], on the tenth of the month, men from [the] elderly of Israel have come in to seek YHWH, and they sit before me;
II arriva, dans la septième année, le dixième jour du cinquième mois, que certains d’entre les anciens d’Israël vinrent consulter le Seigneur, et ils s’assirent en face de moi.
2 and there is a word of YHWH to me, saying,
Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée en ces termes:
3 “Son of man, speak to the elderly of Israel, and you have said to them, Thus said Lord YHWH: Are you coming in to seek Me? [As] I live—I am not sought by you—a declaration of Lord YHWH.
"Fils de l’homme, parle aux anciens d’Israël et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: C’Est pour me consulter que vous venez? Par ma vie, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
4 Do you judge them? Do you judge, son of man? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers,
Veux-tu les juger, fils de l’homme, veux-tu les juger? Fais-leur connaître les abominations de leurs pères.
5 and you have said to them, Thus said Lord YHWH: In the day of My fixing on Israel, I lift up My hand, To the seed of the house of Jacob, And am known to them in the land of Egypt, And I lift up My hand to them, Saying, I [am] your God YHWH.
Tu leur diras donc: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Le jour où j’ai fait choix d’Israël, où j’ai levé la main pour la postérité de la maison de Jacob, où je me suis révélé à eux au pays d’Egypte, où j’ai levé la main pour eux en disant: Je suis l’Eternel votre Dieu,
6 In that day I lifted up My hand to them, To bring them forth from the land of Egypt, To a land that I spied out for them, Flowing with milk and honey, It [is] a beauty to all the lands,
ce jour-là, je leur ai juré de leur faire quitter le pays d’Egypte pour une contrée que j’avais explorée à leur intention, où ruissellent le lait et le miel, et qui est un joyau entre tous les pays.
7 And I say to them, Let each cast away the detestable things of his eyes, And do not be defiled with the idols of Egypt, I [am] your God YHWH.
Et je leur ai dit: "Que chacun de vous rejette au loin les abominations qui sont sous ses yeux! Ne vous souillez pas avec les idoles infâmes de l’Egypte, je suis l’Eternel votre Dieu."
8 And they rebel against Me, And have not been willing to listen to Me, Each has not cast away the detestable things of their eyes, And have not forsaken the idols of Egypt, And I speak—to pour out My fury on them, To complete My anger against them, In the midst of the land of Egypt.
Mais ils se sont mutinés contre moi, ils n’ont pas consenti à m’écouter; ils n’ont pas rejeté les abjections dont ils étaient témoins, ils n’ont pas abandonné les idoles de l’Egypte, et je songeais à épancher mon courroux sur eux, à assouvir sur eux ma colère au milieu du pays d’Egypte.
9 And I do [it] for My Name’s sake, Not to defile [it] before the eyes of the nations, In whose midst they [are in], Before whose eyes I became known to them, To bring them out from the land of Egypt.
Mais j’agis en considération de mon nom, pour ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations au milieu desquelles ils se trouvaient et à la vue desquelles je m’étais révélé à eux pour les faire sortir du pays d’Egypte.
10 And I bring them out of the land of Egypt, And I bring them into the wilderness,
Je les tirai donc du pays d’Egypte et je les amenai au désert.
11 And I give My statutes to them, And I caused them to know My judgments, Which the man who does—lives by them.
Je leur donnai mes lois et leur fis connaître mes règlements, que l’homme doit accomplir pour assurer sa vie.
12 And I have also given My Sabbaths to them, To be for a sign between Me and them, To know that I [am] YHWH who is sanctifying them.
Je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats, qui devaient être un symbole entre moi et eux, pour qu’on sût que c’est moi, l’Eternel, qui les sanctifie.
13 And the house of Israel rebels against Me in the wilderness, They have not walked in My statutes, And they have despised My judgments, Which the man who does—lives by them. And they have greatly defiled My Sabbaths, And I speak—to pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them.
Mais la maison d’Israël s’est révoltée contre moi dans le désert; ils n’ont pas suivi mes lois, ils ont méprisé mes règlements, que l’homme doit accomplir pour vivre, ils ont profané à l’excès mes sabbats, et je songeai à épancher mon courroux sur eux dans le désert pour les anéantir.
14 And I do [it] for My Name’s sake, Not to defile [it] before the eyes of the nations, Before whose eyes I brought them forth.
Mais j’agis en considération de mon nom, pour ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations à la vue desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
15 And also, I have lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, Not to bring them into the land that I had given, Flowing with milk and honey, It [is] a beauty to all the lands,
Aussi bien, je jurai contre eux au désert, de ne pas les amener au pays que je leur destinais, ruisselant de lait et de miel, qui est un joyau entre tous les pays,
16 Because they kicked against My judgments, And they have not walked in My statutes, And they have defiled My Sabbaths, For their heart is going after their idols.
parce qu’ils avaient méprisé mes règlements, refusé de suivre mes lois et profané mes sabbats, leur coeur n’étant épris que de leurs viles idoles.
17 And My eye has pity on them—against destroying them, And I have not made an end of them in the wilderness.
Mais mon oeil eut trop pitié d’eux pour les détruire et je ne les ai pas réduits à néant dans le désert.
18 And I say to their sons in the wilderness: Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, And do not observe their judgments, And do not defile yourselves with their idols.
Et je dis à leurs enfants dans le désert: "Ne suivez point les errements de vos pères, n’observez pas leurs coutumes et ne vous souillez point par leurs idoles.
19 I [am] your God YHWH, walk in My statutes, And observe My judgments, and do them,
Je suis l’Eternel, votre Dieu, suivez mes lois, observez mes règlements et exécutez-les.
20 And sanctify My Sabbaths, And they have been for a sign between Me and you, To know that I [am] your God YHWH.
Sanctifiez mes sabbats; qu’ils soient un symbole entre moi et vous, pour qu’on sache que je suis l’Eternel, votre Dieu.
21 And the sons rebel against Me, They have not walked in My statutes, And they have not observed My judgments—to do them, Which the man who does—lives by them. They have defiled My Sabbaths, And I speak—to pour out My fury on them, To complete My anger against them in the wilderness.
Et les enfants se sont révoltés contre moi ils n’ont pas suivi mes lois, ils n’ont pas respecté, pour les accomplir, mes règlements que l’homme doit accomplir pour vivre; ils ont profané mes sabbats, et je songeai à épancher mon courroux sur eux, à assouvir sur eux ma colère dans le désert.
22 And I have turned back My hand, And I do [it] for My Name’s sake, Not to defile [it] before the eyes of the nations, Before whose eyes I brought them out.
Mais je retins ma main et j’agis en considération de mon nom, pour ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations à la vue desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
23 I also, I have lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, To scatter them among nations, And to spread them through lands.
Mais j’ai aussi juré contre eux dans le désert, de les disperser parmi les nations et de les disséminer dans les pays,
24 Because they have not done My judgments, And they have despised My statutes, And they have defiled My Sabbaths, And their eyes have been after [the] idols of their fathers.
parce qu’ils n’ont pas accompli mes règlements, et qu’ils ont méprisé mes lois, profané mes sabbats, et que leurs yeux ont été épris des idoles de leurs pères.
25 And I also, I have given statutes to them [that are] not good, And judgments by which they do not live.
Mais en revanche, moi je leur ai donné des lois malheureuses et des règlements non susceptibles de les faire vivre.
26 And I defile them by their own gifts, By causing every opener of a womb to pass away, So that I make them desolate, So that they know that I [am] YHWH.
Je les ai rendus impurs par leurs offrandes, en ce qu’ils faisaient passer par le feu tout premier-né, de manière à les terroriser, afin qu’ils connussent que je suis l’Eternel.
27 Therefore, speak to the house of Israel, son of man, and you have said to them, Thus said Lord YHWH: Still in this your fathers have reviled Me, In their committing a trespass against Me.
C’Est pourquoi, parle à la maison d’Israël, fils de l’homme, et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Encore en cela vos pères m’ont outragé, en commettant une infidélité à mon égard.
28 And I bring them into the land, That I lifted up My hand to give to them, And they see every high hill, and every thick tree, And they sacrifice their sacrifices there, And give the provocation of their offering there, And make their refreshing fragrance there, And they pour out their drink-offerings there.
Je les avais amenés au pays que j’avais juré de leur donner; et eux, dès qu’ils aperçurent toute colline élevée et tout arbre touffu, ils y ont immolé leurs sacrifices, déposé leurs odieuses offrandes, apporté leurs parfums voluptueux et répandu leurs libations.
29 And I say to them: What [is] the high place to where you are going in?” And its name is called “High Place” to this day.
Et je leur ai dit: Qu’est-ce que ce haut lieu où vous venez vous réunir? (Et on l’a désigné du nom de Bama, jusqu’à ce jour.)
30 “Therefore, say to the house of Israel, Thus said Lord YHWH: Are you defiling yourselves in the way of your fathers? And do you go whoring after their detestable things?
C’Est pourquoi dis à la maison d’Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Quoi! Vous vous rendriez impurs comme ont fait vos pères et vous vous prostitueriez à leurs idoles abjectes!
31 And in the offering of your gifts, In causing your sons to pass through fire, You are defiled by all your idols to this day, And I am sought by you, O house of Israel? [As] I live—a declaration of Lord YHWH, I am not sought by you.
Oui, en apportant vos offrandes, en faisant passer vos enfants par le feu, vous vous souillez par toutes vos idoles jusqu’à ce jour, et moi, je me laisserais consulter par vous, maison d’Israël! Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous!
32 And that which is going up on your mind, It is not at all—in that you are saying: We will be as the nations, as the families of the lands, To serve wood and stone.
Ce qui vous monte en l’esprit ne se réalisera pas, lorsque vous dites: "Devenons comme les nations, comme les familles des autres pays pour adorer le bois et la pierre!"
33 [As] I live—a declaration of Lord YHWH, Do I not, with a strong hand, And with an outstretched arm, And with poured out fury—rule over you?
Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, je jure que d’une main puissante et d’un bras étendu et d’un courroux débordant, je me comporterai en roi à votre égard!
34 And I have brought you forth from the peoples, And assembled you from the lands In which you have been scattered, With a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, And with poured out fury.
Je vous ferai sortir d’entre les peuples et je vous rassemblerai des pays où vous avez été dispersés, avec une main puissante, avec un bras étendu et avec un courroux déchaîné.
35 And I have brought you into the wilderness of the peoples, And have been judged with you there face to face.
Et je vous amènerai au désert des peuples, et je vous demanderai des comptes, là, face à face.
36 As I was judged with your fathers, In the wilderness of the land of Egypt, So I am judged with you, A declaration of Lord YHWH.
Comme j’ai demandé des comptes à vos pères dans le désert du pays d’Egypte, ainsi je vous demanderai des comptes à vous, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
37 And I have caused you to pass under the rod, And brought you into the bond of the covenant,
Et je vous ferai passer sous la verge, et je vous engagerai dans les liens de l’alliance.
38 And cleared out the rebels from you, And those transgressing against Me, I bring them out from the land of their sojournings, And they do not come to the land of Israel, And you have known that I [am] YHWH.
Et je trierai parmi vous ceux qui se révoltent et pèchent contre moi, je les ferai sortir du pays où ils séjournent, et ils ne viendront pas au pays d’Israël, et vous saurez que je suis l’Eternel.
39 And you, O house of Israel, thus said Lord YHWH: Each go, serve his idols, And afterward, if you are not listening to Me [anyway], But you do not defile My holy Name anymore by your gifts, and by your idols.
Pour vous, maison d’Israël, ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu, que chacun aille donc adorer ses idoles, et après cela on verra si vous ne m’écoutez pas; vous ne profanerez plus mon saint nom par vos offrandes et vos idoles.
40 For on My holy mountain, On the mountain of the height of Israel, A declaration of Lord YHWH, All the house of Israel serves Me there, All of it, in the land—I accept them there, And I seek your raised-offerings there, And with the first-fruit of your gifts, With all your holy things.
Car c’est sur ma montagne sainte, sur la montagne élevée d’Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu, c’est là que m’adorera la maison d’Israël tout entière, dans le pays. Là je les agréerai, et là je rechercherai vos prélèvements et les prémices de vos dons, avec toutes vos choses saintes.
41 With refreshing fragrance I accept you, In My bringing you out from the peoples, And I have assembled you from the lands In which you have been scattered, And I have been sanctified in you Before the eyes of the nations.
Grâce à un parfum agréable, je vous accueillerai avec bienveillance, quand je vous aurai fait sortir du sein des peuples, rassemblés des pays où vous avez été dispersés, et je me sanctifierai par vous aux yeux des nations.
42 And you have known that I [am] YHWH, In My bringing you to the ground of Israel, To the land that I lifted up My hand To give it to your fathers,
Et vous saurez que je suis l’Eternel, quand je vous aurai menés au pays d’Israël, sur la terre que j’ai juré de donner à vos pères.
43 And you have remembered your ways there, And all your doings, In which you have been defiled, And you have been loathsome in your own faces, For all your evils that you have done.
Là, vous vous souviendrez de vos voies et de vos actes par lesquels vous vous êtes souillés, et vous aurez du dégoût pour vous-mêmes à cause de tous les forfaits que vous avez commis.
44 And you have known that I [am] YHWH, In My dealing with you for My Name’s sake, Not according to your evil ways, And according to your corrupt doings, O house of Israel, A declaration of Lord YHWH.”
Et vous saurez que je suis l’Eternel, lorsque j’en userai avec vous par égard pour mon nom, non selon vos voies, qui sont mauvaises et selon vos actes dépravés, maison d’Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu."
45 And there is a word of YHWH to me, saying,
La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée en ces termes:
46 “Son of man, set your face the way of Teman, and prophesy to the south, and prophesy to the forest of the field—the south;
"Fils de l’homme, tourne ta face dans la direction méridionale, prêche contre le Sud et prophétise contre la forêt de la campagne du Midi.
47 and you have said to the forest of the south, Hear a word of YHWH! Thus said Lord YHWH: Behold, I am kindling a fire in you, And it has devoured every moist tree in you, and every dry tree, The glowing flames are not quenched, And all faces from south to north have been burned by it.
Tu diras à la forêt du Sud: "Ecoute la parole du Seigneur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Je vais allumer en toi un feu qui te dévorera tous tes arbres verts et tous tes arbres secs; elle ne s’éteindra pas, la flamme flambante, tous les visages s’y brûleront du Sud jusqu’au Nord.
48 And all flesh has seen, that I, YHWH, have kindled it—it is not quenched.”
Et toute chair verra que moi, l’Eternel, je l’ai allumée; elle ne s’éteindra pas.
49 And I say, “Aah! Lord YHWH, They are saying of me, Is he not using allegories?”
Et je dis: "Ah! Seigneur Dieu, ils me disent, eux: Oh! C’Est un conteur d’allégories!"
