Exodus 33
1 And YHWH speaks to Moses, “Go, ascend from this [place], you and the people, whom you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, I give it to your seed.
Hierauf sprach Jahwe zu Mose: Wohlan! ziehe nun mit dem Volke, daß du aus Ägypten hierher gebracht hast, von hier hinweg in das Land, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen habe, indem ich verhieß: Euren Nachkommen will ich es verleihen!
2 And I have sent a Messenger before you, and have cast out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
Ich will aber einen Engel vor euch einherziehen lassen, um die Kanaaniter, Amoriter, Hethiter, Pheresiter, Heviter und Jebusiter vor euch zu vertreiben, -
3 [Go up] to a land flowing with milk and honey, for I do not go up in your midst, for you [are] a stiff-necked people—lest I consume you in the way.”
in ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt. Denn ich will nicht in eurer Mitte einherziehen, weil ihr ein halsstarriges Volk seid; sonst würde ich euch unterwegs den Garaus machen.
4 And the people hear this sad thing, and mourn; and none puts his ornaments on him.
Als aber das Volk diese schlimmen Worte vernahm, da wurden sie sehr betrübt, und niemand legte seinen Schmuck an.
5 And YHWH says to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israel: You [are] a stiff-necked people; [in] one moment I could come up into your midst and could have consumed you; and now, put down your ornaments from off you, and I know what I do to you”;
Da sprach Jahwe zu Mose: Sprich zu den Israeliten: Ihr seid ein halsstarriges Volk! Wenn ich auch nur einen Augenblick in eurer Mitte einherzöge, würde ich euch den Garaus machen. So legt nun euren Schmuck ab; dann will ich zusehen, was ich für euch thun kann.
6 and the sons of Israel take off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.
Da entledigten sich die Israeliten ihres Schmuckes vom Berge Horeb ab.
7 And Moses takes the tent, and has stretched it out at the outside of the camp, far off from the camp, and has called it, “Tent of Meeting”; and it has come to pass, everyone seeking YHWH goes out to the Tent of Meeting, which [is] at the outside of the camp.
Mose aber nahm jedesmal das Zelt und schlug es außerhalb des Lagers, etwas entfernt vom Lager, auf und nannte es Offenbarungszelt. Wer irgend Jahwe befragen wollte, der begab sich zu dem Offenbarungszelte hinaus vor das Lager.
8 And it has come to pass, at the going out of Moses to the tent, all the people rise, and have stood, each at the opening of his tent, and have looked expectingly after Moses, until his going into the tent.
So oft sich nun Mose zu dem Zelte hinaus begab, erhoben sich alle Leute und traten ein jeder unter die Thüre seines Zeltes und blickten Mose nach, bis er zum Zelte gelangt war.
9 And it has come to pass, at the going in of Moses to the tent, the pillar of the cloud comes down, and has stood at the opening of the tent, and He has spoken with Moses;
So oft aber Mose zum Zelte kam, senkte sich die Wolkensäule herab und nahm ihren Platz an der Thüre des Zeltes, und dann redete er mit Mose.
10 and all the people have seen the pillar of the cloud standing at the opening of the tent, and all the people have risen and bowed themselves, each at the opening of his tent.
Und alle Leute sahen die Wolkensäule an der Thüre des Zeltes stehen; dann erhoben sich alle Leute und warfen sich ein jeder unter der Thüre seines Zeltes zu Boden.
11 And YHWH has spoken to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend; and he has turned back to the camp, and his minister Joshua, son of Nun, a youth, does not depart out of the tent.
Jahwe aber redete jedesmal persönlich mit Mose, wie jemand mit seinem Freunde redet; hierauf kehrte er ins Lager zurück, während sein Gehilfe Josua, der Sohn Nuns, als Diener beständig im Innern des Zeltes verweilte.
12 And Moses says to YHWH, “See, You are saying to me, Bring up this people, and You have not caused me to know whom You send with me; and You have said, I have known you by name, and you have also found grace in My eyes.
Hierauf sprach Mose zu Jahwe: Du befiehlst mir freilich: Führe dieses Volk hinweg! hast mir aber nicht kund gethan, wen du mir als Begleiter mitsenden willst. Und du hast ja doch gesagt: Ich kenne dich mit Namen; auch hast du Gnade bei mir gefunden!
13 And now, if, please, I have found grace in Your eyes, please cause me to know Your way, and I know You, so that I find grace in Your eyes, and consider that this nation [is] Your people”;
Wenn ich nun also Gnade bei dir gefunden habe, so weihe mich ein in deine Pläne und laß mich dich erkennen, damit ich Gnade vor dir finde, und bedenke doch, daß diese Leute dein Volk sind!
14 and He says, “My presence goes, and I have given rest to you.”
Da sprach er: Soll ich in Person mitgehen und dich bis zum Bestimmungsorte bringen?
15 And he says to Him, “If Your presence is not going—do not take us up from this [place];
Er antwortete: Wenn du nicht in Person mitgehst, so führe uns lieber nicht von hier hinweg!
16 and in what is it known now, that I have found grace in Your eyes—I and Your people—is it not in Your going with us? And we have been distinguished—I and Your people—from all the people who [are] on the face of the ground.”
Woran sonst soll erkannt werden, daß ich und dein Volk Gnade vor dir gefunden haben, außer indem du mit uns ziehst, und ich und dein Volk dadurch ausgezeichnet werden vor allen Völkern auf Erden?
17 And YHWH says to Moses, “Even this thing which you have spoken I do; for you have found grace in My eyes, and I know you by name.”
Da sprach Jahwe zu Mose: Auch das, was du da erbeten hast, will ich thun; denn du hast Gnade vor mir gefunden und ich kenne dich mit Namen.
18 And he says, “Please show me Your glory”;
Da bat er: Laß mich deine Herrlichkeit schauen!
19 and He says, “I cause all My goodness to pass before your face, and have called concerning the Name of YHWH before you, and favored him whom I favor, and loved him whom I love.”
Er erwiderte: Ich will alle meine Schöne an dir vorüberziehen lassen und den Namen Jahwe vor dir ausrufen und will gnädig sein, wem ich will, und mich erbarmen, wessen ich will.
20 He also says, “You are unable to see My face, for man does not see Me and live”;
Hierauf sprach er: Du kannst mein Antlitz nicht schauen; denn kein Mensch bleibt am Leben, wenn er mich sieht!
21 YHWH also says, “Behold, a place [is] by Me, and you have stood on the rock,
Sodann sprach Jahwe: Es ist eine Stätte in meiner Nähe, da magst du hintreten auf den Felsen.
22 and it has come to pass, in the passing by of My glory, that I have set you in a cleft of the rock, and spread out My hands over you until My passing by,
Wenn dann meine Herrlichkeit vorüberzieht, so will ich dich in eine Höhlung des Felsens stellen und meine Hand über dich decken, bis ich vorüber bin.
23 and I have turned aside My hands, and you have seen My back parts, and My face is not seen.”
Wenn ich dann meine Hand entferne, so wirst du meine Rückseite sehen; aber mein Antlitz darf niemand schauen!
