Exodus 19
1 In the third month of the going out of the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, in this day they have come into the wilderness of Sinai,
Kolmantena kuukautena Israelin lasten lähtemisestä Egyptin maalta, tulivat he sinä päivänä Sinain korpeen.
2 and they journey from Rephidim, and enter the wilderness of Sinai, and encamp in the wilderness; and Israel encamps there before the mountain.
Sillä he olivat lähteneet Raphidimista, ja tulivat Sinain korpeen, ja sioittivat itsensä korpeen: ja Israel sioitti itsensä siihen, vuoren kohdalle.
3 And Moses has gone up to God, and YHWH calls to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you say to the house of Jacob, and declare to the sons of Israel:
Ja Moses astui ylös Jumalan tykö. Ja Herra huusi häntä vuorelta, ja sanoi: näin sinun pitää sanoman Jakobin huoneelle, ja Israelin lapsille ilmoittaman.
4 You have seen that which I have done to the Egyptians, and [how] I carry you on eagles’ wings and bring you to Myself.
Te olette nähneet, mitä minä Egyptiläisille tehnyt olen: ja kuinka minä olen teitä kantanut kotkan siivillä, ja olen saattanut teidät minun tyköni.
5 And now, if you really listen to My voice, then you have kept My covenant, and have been a special treasure to Me more than all the peoples, for all the earth [is] Mine;
Jos te siis minun ääneni ahkerasti kuulette, ja pidätte minun liittoni, niin teidän pitää oleman minulle kallis omaisuus kaikista kansoista, vaikka muutoin koko maa on minun.
6 and you are to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation: these [are] the words which you speak to the sons of Israel.”
Ja teidän pitää oleman minulle papillinen valtakunta ja pyhä kansa. Nämä ovat ne sanat, jotka sinun pitää Israelin lapsille, sanoman.
7 And Moses comes, and calls for [the] elderly of the people, and sets before them all these words which YHWH has commanded him;
Niin Moses tuli ja kutsui kokoon vanhimmat kansan seasta, ja jutteli heille kaikki sanat, jotka Herra hänen käskenyt oli.
8 and all the people answer together and say, “All that YHWH has spoken we do”; and Moses returns the words of the people to YHWH.
Ja kaikki kansa vastasi yhtä haavaa, ja sanoi: kaikki mitä Herra puhunut on, me tahdomme tehdä. Ja Moses sanoi jällensä kansan sanat Herralle.
9 And YHWH says to Moses, “Behold, I am coming to you in the thickness of the cloud, so that the people hear in My speaking with you, and also believe in you for all time”; and Moses declares the words of the people to YHWH.
Niin Herra sanoi Mosekselle: katso, minä tulen sinun tykös paksussa pilvessä, että kansa kuulee minun puhuvan sinun kanssas, ja uskoo sinua ijankaikkisesti. Ja Moses ilmoitti Herralle kansan puheen.
10 And YHWH says to Moses, “Go to the people and you have sanctified them today and tomorrow, and they have washed their garments,
Ja Herra sanoi Mosekselle: mene kansan tykö, ja pyhitä heitä tänäpänä ja huomenna: että he vaatteensa pesisivät.
11 and have been prepared for the third day; for on the third day YHWH comes down on Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people.
Ja olisivat kolmantena päivänä valmiit; sillä kolmantena päivänä Herra on astuva alas kaiken kansan eteen Sinain vuorelle.
12 And you have made a border [for] the people all around, saying, Take heed to yourselves, going up into the mountain or coming against its extremity; whoever is coming against the mountain is certainly put to death;
Ja sinun pitää paneman rajan kansan ympärille, sanoen: karttakaat teitänne, ettette vuorelle astu taikka tartu sen rajaan: joka siihen vuoreen sattuu, sen pitää totisesti kuoleman.
13 a hand does not come against him, for he is certainly stoned or shot through, whether beast or man—it does not live; in the prolonging of the ram’s horn they go up into the mountain.”
Ei yksikään käsi pidä häneen rupeeman, vaan hän pitää täydellisesti kivitettämän, eli kohdastansa ammuttaman lävitse, joko se eläin taikka ihminen olis, ei pidä sen elämän. Koska ääni rupee pitkään kajahtamaan, silloin he vuorelle astukaan.
14 And Moses comes down from the mountain to the people, and sanctifies the people, and they wash their garments;
Moses astui vuorelta kansan tykö, ja pyhitti heitä: ja he pesivät vaatteensa.
15 and he says to the people, “Be prepared for the third day, do not come near to a woman.”
Ja hän sanoi heille: olkaat kolmanteen päivään valmiit, ja älkäät lähestykö vaimoja.
16 And it comes to pass, on the third day, while it is morning, that there are voices, and lightnings, and a heavy cloud on the mountain, and the sound of a very strong horn; and all the people who [are] in the camp tremble.
Kuin kolmas päivä tuli, ja aamu oli, niin tuli pitkäisen jylinä ja leimaus, ja paksu pilvi vuoren päälle, ja sangen väkevä basunan ääni: niin kaikki kansa, jotka leirissä olivat, pelvosta vapisivat.
17 And Moses brings out the people from the camp to meet God, and they station themselves at the lower part of the mountain,
Ja Moses johdatti kansan leiristä Jumalaa vastaan, ja he seisahtivat vuoren alle.
18 and Mount Sinai [is] wholly [in] smoke from the presence of YHWH, who has come down on it in fire, and its smoke goes up as smoke of the furnace, and the whole mountain trembles exceedingly;
Mutta koko Sinain vuori suitsi, siitä että Herra astui alas sen päälle tulessa, ja sen savu kävi ylös niinkuin pätsin savu, niin että koko vuori sangen kovaan vapisi.
19 and the sound of the horn is going on, and [is] very strong; Moses speaks, and God answers him with a voice.
Ja sen basunan helinä enemmin ja enemmin eneni. Moses puhui ja Jumala vastasi häntä kuultavasti.
20 And YHWH comes down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain, and YHWH calls for Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses goes up.
Kuin nyt Herra oli tullut alas Sinain vuoren kukkulalle, niin Herra kutsui Moseksen vuoren kukkulalle. Ja Moses astui sinne ylös.
21 And YHWH says to Moses, “Go down, protest to the people, lest they break through to YHWH to see, and many of them have fallen;
Niin sanoi Herra hänelle: astu alas ja varoita kansaa, ettei he kävisi rajan ylitse Herran tykö, häntä näkemään, ja monta heistä lankeaisi.
22 and also the priests who are coming near to YHWH sanctify themselves, lest YHWH break forth on them.”
Niin myös papit, jotka Herraa lähestyvät, pitää heitänsä pyhittämän, ettei Herra heitä hukuttaisi.
23 And Moses says to YHWH, “The people [are] unable to come up to Mount Sinai, for You have protested to us, saying, Make a border [for] the mountain, then you have sanctified it.”
Ja Moses sanoi Herralle: eipä kansa saa astua ylös Sinain vuorelle; sillä sinä olet meille todistanut ja sanonut: pane rajat vuoren ympärille, ja pyhitä se.
24 And YHWH says to him, “Go, descend, then you have come up, you and Aaron with you; and the priests and the people do not break through to come up to YHWH, lest He break forth on them.”
Ja Herra sanoi hänelle: mene ja astu alas, ja astu ylös (jällensä) sinä ja Aaron sinun kanssas; mutta papit ja kansa älkään lähestykö astumaan ylös Herran tykö, ettei hän heitä hukuttaisi.
25 And Moses goes down to the people and speaks to them.
Ja Moses astui alas kansan tykö ja sanoi nämät heille.
