Esther 6
1 On that night the sleep of the king has fled away, and he commands to bring in the scroll of memorials of the chronicles, and they are read before the king,
Cette même nuit, comme le sommeil fuyait le roi, il ordonna d’apporter le recueil des annales relatant les événements passés, et on en fit la lecture devant le roi.
2 and it is found written that Mordecai had declared concerning Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs of the king, of the keepers of the threshold, who sought to put forth a hand on King Ahasuerus.
On y trouva consigné ce fait que Mardochée avait dénoncé Bigtana et Térech, deux des eunuques du roi, préposés à la garde du seuil, qui avaient résolu d’attenter à la vie du roi Assuérus.
3 And the king says, “What honor and greatness has been done to Mordecai for this?” And the servants of the king, his ministers, say, “Nothing has been done with him.”
"Quel honneur, demanda le roi, et quelle dignité a-t-on décernés à Mardochée pour cela? rien n’a été fait pour lui", répondirent les pages du roi, chargés du service.
4 And the king says, “Who [is] in the court?” And Haman has come into the outer court of the house of the king, to say to the king to hang Mordecai on the tree that he had prepared for him.
Le roi interrogea: "Qui est-ce qui est dans la cour?" Or, Aman venait d’entrer dans la cour extérieure du palais royal pour demander au roi qu’on pendit Mardochée à la potence, dressée à son intention.
5 And the servants of the king say to him, “Behold, Haman is standing in the court”; and the king says, “Let him come in.”
Les pages du roi lui dirent "Voilà Aman qui se tient dans la cour. Qu’il entre!" dit le roi.
6 And Haman comes in, and the king says to him, “What should [I] do with the man in whose honor the king has delighted?” And Haman says in his heart, “To whom does the king delight to do honor more than myself?”
Aman étant entré, le roi lui dit: "Que convient-il de faire pour l’homme que le roi désire honorer?" Et Aman de se dire à part soi: "Est-il quelqu’un à qui le roi tienne à rendre plus d’honneurs qu’à moi-même?"
7 And Haman says to the king, “The man in whose honor the king has delighted,
Aman répondit donc au roi: "S’Il est un homme que le roi ait à cœur d’honorer,
8 let them bring in royal clothing that the king has put on himself, and a horse on which the king has ridden, and that the royal crown be put on his head,
qu’on fasse venir un vêtement royal qu’a porté le roi et un cheval que le roi a monté et sur la tête duquel figure une couronne royale;
9 and to give the clothing and the horse into the hand of a man of the heads of the king, the chiefs, and they have clothed the man in whose honor the king has delighted, and caused him to ride on the horse in a broad place of the city, and called before him: Thus it is done to the man in whose honor the king has delighted.”
que l’on confie le vêtement et le cheval à l’un des seigneurs du roi, des hauts dignitaires, pour qu’on mette le vêtement à l’homme que le roi veut honorer, qu’on le promène sur le cheval par la grande place de la ville, en le faisant précéder de cette proclamation: "Voilà ce qui se fait pour l’homme que le roi veut honorer!"
10 And the king says to Haman, “Hurry, take the clothing and the horse, as you have spoken, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who is sitting in the gate of the king; there does not fall a thing of all that you have spoken.”
Va vite, dit le roi à Aman, prendre le vêtement et le cheval dont tu as parlé, et fais comme tu as dit à l’égard du juif Mardochée, qui est assis à la porte du roi; n’omets aucun détail de tout ce que tu as proposé."
11 And Haman takes the clothing, and the horse, and clothed Mordecai, and causes him to ride in a broad place of the city, and calls before him, “Thus it is done to the man in whose glory the king has delighted.”
Aman prit donc le vêtement et le cheval, il habilla Mardochée et le promena à cheval par la grande place de ta ville, en s’écriant devant lui: "Voilà ce qui, se fait pour l’homme que le roi veut honorer!"
12 And Mordecai turns back to the gate of the king, and Haman has been hurried to his house mourning, and with covered head,
Puis Mardochée retourna à la porte du roi, et Aman gagna précipitamment sa maison, accablé de tristesse et la tête basse.
13 and Haman recounts to his wife Zeresh, and to all his friends, all that has met him, and his wise men and his wife Zeresh say to him, “If Mordecai [is] of the seed of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you are not able for him, but certainly fall before him.”
Aman raconta à sa femme Zérech et à ses amis tout ce qui lui était advenu; et ses sages et sa femme Zérech lui dirent: "S’Il est de la race des juifs, ce Mardochée devant qui tu as commencé à tomber, tu ne pourras l’emporter sur lui; au contraire, tu t’écrouleras entièrement."
14 They are yet speaking with him, and eunuchs of the king have come, and hurry to bring in Haman to the banquet that Esther has made.
Ils étaient encore en train de s’entretenir avec lui, quand arrivèrent les eunuques du roi; ceux-ci firent diligence pour conduire Aman au festin qu’Esther avait préparé.
