Ecclesiastes 9
1 But all this I have laid to my heart, so as to clear up the whole of this, that the righteous and the wise, and their works, [are] in the hand of God, neither love nor hatred does man know, the whole [is] before them.
Ja, allt detta har jag besinnat, och jag har sökt pröva allt detta, huru de rättfärdiga och de visa och deras verk äro i Guds våld. Varken om kärlek eller hat kan en människa veta något förut; allt kan förestå henne.
2 The whole [is] as to the whole; one event is to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good, and to the clean, and to the unclean, and to him who is sacrificing, and to him who is not sacrificing; as [is] the good, so [is] the sinner, he who is swearing as he who is fearing an oath.
Ja, allt kan vederfaras alla; det går den rättfärdige såsom den ogudaktige, den gode och rene såsom den orene, den som offrar såsom den vilken icke offrar; den gode räknas lika med syndaren, den som svär bliver lik den som har försyn för att svärja.
3 This [is] an evil among all that has been done under the sun, that one event [is] to all, and also the heart of the sons of man is full of evil, and madness [is] in their heart during their life, and after it—to the dead.
Ett elände vid allt som händer under solen är detta, att det går alla lika. Därför äro ock människornas hjärtan fulla med ondska, och oförnuft är i deras hjärtan, så länge de leva; och sedan måste de ned bland de döda.
4 But [to] him who is joined to all the living there is confidence, for to a living dog it [is] better than to the dead lion.
För den som utkoras att vara i de levandes skara finnes ju ännu något att hoppas; ty bättre är att vara en levande hund än ett dött lejon.
5 For the living know that they die, and the dead do not know anything, and there is no more reward to them, for their remembrance has been forgotten.
Och väl veta de som leva att de måste dö, men de döda vet alls intet, och de hava ingen vinning mer att vänta, utan deras åminnelse är förgäten.
6 Their love also, their hatred also, their envy also, has already perished, and they have no more portion for all time in all that has been done under the sun.
Både deras kärlek och deras hat och deras avund hava redan nått sin ände, och aldrig någonsin få de mer någon del i vad som händer under solen.
7 Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a glad heart, for already has God been pleased with your works.
Välan, så ät då ditt bröd med glädje, och drick ditt vin med glatt hjärta, ty Gud har redan i förväg givit sitt bifall till vad du gör.
8 At all times let your garments be white, and do not let oil be lacking on your head.
Låt dina kläder alltid vara vita, och låt aldrig olja fattas på ditt huvud.
9 See life with the wife whom you have loved, all the days of the life of your vanity, that He has given to you under the sun, all the days of your vanity, for it [is] your portion in life, even of your labor that you are laboring at under the sun.
Njut livet med någon kvinna som du älskar, så länge de fåfängliga livsdagar vara, som förlänas dig under solen, ja, under alla dina fåfängliga dagar; ty detta är den del du får i livet vid den möda som du gör dig under solen.
10 All that your hand finds to do, with your power do, for there is no work, and plan, and knowledge, and wisdom in Sheol to where you are going. (Sheol h7585)
Allt vad du förmår uträtta med din kraft må du söka uträtta; ty i dödsriket, dit du går, kan man icke verka eller tänka, där finnes ingen insikt eller vishet. (Sheol h7585)
11 I have turned so as to see under the sun, that not to the swift [is] the race, nor to the mighty the battle, nor even to the wise bread, nor even to the intelligent wealth, nor even to the skillful grace, for time and chance happen with them all.
Ytterligare såg jag under solen att det icke beror av de snabba huru de lyckas i löpandet, icke av hjältarna huru striden utfaller, icke av de visa huru de få sitt bröd, icke av de kloka vad rikedom de förvärva, eller av de förståndiga vad ynnest de vinna, utan att allt för dem beror av tid och lägenhet.
12 For even man does not know his time; as fish that are taken hold of by an evil net, and as birds that are taken hold of by a snare, the sons of man are snared like these at an evil time when it falls on them suddenly.
Ty människan känner icke sin tid, lika litet som fiskarna, vilka fångas i olycksnätet, eller fåglarna, vilka fastna i snaran. Såsom dessa, så snärjas ock människornas barn på olyckans tid, när ofärd plötsligt faller över dem.
13 This also I have seen: wisdom under the sun, and it is great to me.
Också detta såg jag under solen, ett visdomsverk, som tycktes mig stort:
14 A little city, and few men in it, and a great king has come to it, and has surrounded it, and has built against it great bulwarks;
Det fanns en liten stad med få invånare, och mot den kom en stor konung och belägrade den och byggde stora bålverk mot den.
15 and there has been found in it a poor wise man, and he has delivered the city by his wisdom, and men have not remembered that poor man!
Men därinne fanns en fattig man som var vis; och denne räddade staden genom sin vishet. Dock, sedan tänkte ingen människa på denne fattige man.
16 And I said, “Better [is] wisdom than might, and the wisdom of the poor is despised, and his words are not heard.”
Då sade jag: Väl är vishet bättre än styrka, men den fattiges vishet bliver icke föraktad, och hans ord varda icke hörda.
17 The words of the wise are heard in quiet, More than the cry of a ruler over fools.
De vises ord, om de ock höras helt stilla, äro förmer än allt ropande av en dårarnas överste.
18 Better [is] wisdom than weapons of conflict, And one sinner destroys much good!
Bättre är vishet än krigsredskap; ty en enda som felar kan fördärva mycket gott.
