Ecclesiastes 3
1 To everything—a season, and a time to every delight under the heavens:
Il y a temps pour tout, et toute chose sous le ciel a son moment.
2 A time to bring forth, And a time to die. A time to plant, And a time to eradicate the planted.
Il y a temps pour naître et pour mourir; temps pour planter et pour arracher ce qui a été planté;
3 A time to slay, And a time to heal, A time to break down, And a time to build up.
temps pour tuer et pour guérir; temps pour abattre et pour édifier;
4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh. A time to mourn, And a time to skip.
temps pour pleurer et pour rire; temps pour gémir et pour danser;
5 A time to cast away stones, And a time to heap up stones. A time to embrace, And a time to be far from embracing.
temps pour rejeter les pierres et pour les ramasser; temps pour embrasser et pour s'éloigner des embrassements;
6 A time to seek, And a time to destroy. A time to keep, And a time to cast away.
temps pour acquérir et pour perdre; temps pour conserver et pour rejeter;
7 A time to tear, And a time to sew. A time to be silent, And a time to speak.
temps pour déchirer et pour recoudre; temps pour se taire et pour parler;
8 A time to love, And a time to hate. A time of war, And a time of peace.
temps pour aimer et pour haïr; temps pour combattre et pour faire la paix.
9 What advantage does the doer have in that which he is laboring at?
Quel avantage a celui qui se fatigue aux choses qu'il fait?
10 I have seen the travail that God has given to the sons of man to be humbled by it.
J'ai vu d'un seul coup d'œil toute l'inquiétude que Dieu a donnée aux fils des hommes, pour qu'ils s'inquiètent en elle.
11 The whole He has made beautiful in its season; also, that knowledge He has put in their heart without which man does not find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end.
Toutes les choses qu'Il a faites sont bonnes en leur temps, et Il a mis le monde entier dans le cœur des hommes, en sorte que du commencement à la fin ils ne puissent s'expliquer l'œuvre que Dieu a créée.
12 I have known that there is no good for them except to rejoice and to do good during their life,
J'ai connu qu'il n'est rien de bon en eux-mêmes, si ce n'est de se réjouir et de faire le bien pendant leur vie.
13 indeed, even every man who eats and has drunk and seen good by all his labor, it [is] a gift of God.
Et si un homme mange, boit, et voit le bien dans son labeur, c'est là un don de Dieu.
14 I have known that all that God does is for all time, to it nothing is to be added, and from it nothing is to be withdrawn; and God has worked that they fear before Him.
J'ai connu que tout ce qu'a fait Dieu subsistera durant tous les siècles; nous ne pouvons y rien ajouter, en rien ôter. Et Dieu a fait cela pour que les hommes craignissent Son visage.
15 What is that which has been? Already it is, and that which [is] to be has already been, and God requires that which is pursued.
Ce qui a été est encore; et tout ce qui doit être a été, et Dieu cherchera le persécuté.
16 And again, I have seen under the sun the place of judgment—there [is] the wicked; and the place of righteousness—there [is] the wicked.
Et j'ai vu encore, sous le soleil, le lieu du jugement, où est l'impie, et le lieu de l'équité, où est l'homme pieux.
17 I said in my heart, “The righteous and the wicked God judges, for a time [is] to every matter and for every work there.”
Et j'ai dit en mon cœur: Dieu jugera ensemble le juste et l'impie; car il y a temps pour toute chose et pour toute œuvre.
18 I said in my heart concerning the matter of the sons of man that God might cleanse them, so as to see that they themselves [are] beasts.
J'ai dit en mon cœur, touchant les discours des hommes: Dieu les discernera, et Il leur montrera qu'ils sont un bétail à Ses yeux.
19 For an event [is to] the sons of man, and an event [is to] the beasts, even one event [is] to them; as the death of this, so [is] the death of that; and one spirit [is] to all, and the advantage of man above the beast is nothing, for the whole [is] vanity.
Car le fils des hommes et la bête sont sujets aux mêmes accidents; la mort de celui-ci est la mort de celui-là, et le même souffle les anime tous: et qu'a l'homme de plus que la bête? Rien; car tout est vanité.
20 The whole are going to one place, the whole have been from the dust, and the whole are turning back to the dust.
Toutes choses vont au même lieu; tout est sorti de la poussière, et tout retournera en poussière.
21 Who knows the spirit of the sons of man that is going up on high, and the spirit of the beast that is going down below to the earth?
Et qui a vu si le souffle des fils des hommes remonte en haut, ou si le souffle des bêtes descend en bas dans la terre?
22 And I have seen that there is nothing better than that man rejoice in his works, for it [is] his portion; for who brings him to look on that which is after him?
Et j'ai vu qu'il n'est rien de bon pour l'homme, sinon de se complaire en ses œuvres; car tel est son partage. Car qui le conduira à connaître quelque chose de ce qui sera après lui?
