Deuteronomy 28
1 “And it has been, if you listen diligently to the voice of your God YHWH, to observe to do all His commands which I am commanding you today, that your God YHWH has made you highest above all the nations of the earth,
“Si escuchares atentamente la voz de Yahvé, tu Dios, observando y practicando sus mandamientos que yo hoy te prescribo, Yahvé, tu Dios, te ensalzará sobre todos los pueblos de la tierra.
2 and all these blessings have come on you and overtaken you, because you listen to the voice of your God YHWH:
Y vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán todas estas bendiciones, con tal que obedezcas la voz de Yahvé, Dios tuyo.
3 Blessed [are] you in the city, and blessed [are] you in the field.
Bendito serás en la ciudad, y bendito en el campo.
4 Blessed [is] the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your livestock, the increase of your oxen, and the wealth of your flock.
Será bendito el fruto de tu seno, el fruto de tu tierra, el fruto de tus bestias, las crías de tus vacas y de tus ovejas.
5 Blessed [is] your basket and your kneading-trough.
Benditos serán tu canasto y tu artesa.
6 Blessed [are] you in your coming in, and blessed [are] you in your going out.
Bendito serás en tu entrada, y bendito en tu salida.
7 YHWH makes your enemies, who are rising up against you, to be struck before your face; in one way they come out to you, and in seven ways they flee before you.
Yahvé derribará delante de ti a tus enemigos que contra ti se levanten. Saldrán contra ti por un solo camino, y por siete caminos huirán de tu vista.
8 YHWH commands the blessing with you in your storehouses, and in every putting forth of your hand, and has blessed you in the land which your God YHWH is giving to you.
Yahvé ordenará a la bendición que venga sobre tus graneros y sobre todas las empresas de tu mano; y te bendecirá en la tierra que Yahvé, tu Dios, va a darte.
9 YHWH establishes you to Himself for a holy people, as He has sworn to you, when you keep the commands of your God YHWH and have walked in His ways;
Yahvé te constituirá por pueblo santo suyo, como te ha jurado, si guardas los mandamientos de Yahvé, tu Dios, y andas por sus caminos;
10 and all the peoples of the land have seen that the Name of YHWH is called by you, and they have been afraid of you.
y todos los pueblos de la tierra verán que el nombre de Yahvé ha sido invocado sobre ti y te temerán.
11 And YHWH has made you abundant in good, in the fruit of the womb, and in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, on the ground which YHWH has sworn to your fathers to give to you.
Yahvé te dará, para bien tuyo, abundancia del fruto de tu seno, del fruto de tu ganado y del fruto de tu suelo, sobre la tierra que Yahvé juró a tus padres darte.
12 YHWH opens his good treasure to you—the heavens—to give the rain of your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand, and you have lent to many nations, and you do not borrow.
Yahvé abrirá su benéfico tesoro, los cielos, para dar a tu tierra la lluvia a tiempo, y para bendecir toda obra de tu mano, de modo que tú prestarás a muchos pueblos sin tomarles prestado.
13 And YHWH has set you for head and not for tail; and you have been only above, and are not beneath, for you listen to the commands of your God YHWH, which I am commanding you today, to keep and to do,
Te pondrá Yahvé por cabeza, y no por cola; estarás solamente encima, y jamás debajo, si obedeces los mandamientos de Yahvé, tu Dios, que yo hoy te ordeno para que los guardes y pongas en práctica;
14 and you do not turn aside from all the words which I am commanding you today [to] the right or left, to go after other gods, to serve them.
y si no te apartas de ninguna de las cosas que hoy te prescribo, ni a la derecha, ni a la izquierda, siguiendo a otros dioses para servirles.
15 And it has been, if you do not listen to the voice of your God YHWH, to observe to do all His commands and His statutes which I am commanding you today, that all these revilings have come on you and overtaken you:
Pero si no escuchares la voz de Yahvé, tu Dios, y si no observas ni practicas todos sus mandamientos y todas sus leyes que hoy te intimo, vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán todas estas maldiciones:
16 Cursed [are] you in the city, and cursed [are] you in the field.
Maldito serás en la ciudad, y maldito en el campo.
17 Cursed [is] your basket and your kneading-trough.
Malditos serán tu canasto y tu artesa.
18 Cursed [is] the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your land, the increase of your oxen, and the wealth of your flock.
Maldito será el fruto de tu seno, el fruto de tu tierra, las crías de tus vacas y las de tus ovejas.
19 Cursed [are] you in your coming in, and cursed [are] you in your going out.
MaIdito serás en tu entrada, y maldito en tu salida.
20 YHWH sends the curse, the trouble, and the rebuke on you, in every putting forth of your hand which you do, until you are destroyed, and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings [by] which you have forsaken Me.
Yahvé enviará sobre ti la maldición, la consternación y la amenaza en todo cuanto emprendas, hasta que seas destruido, y hasta que perezcas en breve, a causa de la maldad de tus obras, por las cuales me has abandonado.
21 YHWH causes the pestilence to cleave to you until He consumes you from off the ground to where you are going in to possess it.
Yahvé hará que se te pegue la peste, hasta acabar contigo en la tierra adónde vas a entrar para poseerla.
22 YHWH strikes you with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with extreme burning, and with sword, and with blasting, and with mildew, and they have pursued you until you perish
Yahvé te herirá de consunción, de fiebre, de inflamación, de ardor y de sequía, de tizón y de añublo, que te perseguirán hasta que perezcas.
23 And your heavens which [are] over your head have been bronze, and the earth which [is] under you iron;
Tu cielo sobre tu cabeza será de bronce, y tu tierra bajo tus pies, de hierro.
24 YHWH gives dust and ashes [for] the rain of your land; it comes down on you from the heavens until you are destroyed.
En vez de lluvia Yahvé dará a tu tierra polvo y ceniza, que caerán sobre ti desde el cielo hasta que seas destruido.
25 YHWH makes you struck before your enemies; in one way you go out to them, and in seven ways you flee before them, and you have been for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth;
Yahvé hará que seas derrotado delante de tus enemigos. Saldrás contra ellos por un solo camino, y por siete caminos huirás delante de ellos y serás objeto de horror para todos los reinos de la tierra.
26 and your carcass has been for food for every bird of the heavens and for the beast of the earth, and there is none causing [them] to tremble.
Tu cadáver servirá de pasto a todas las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra, y no habrá quien las espante.
27 YHWH strikes you with the ulcer of Egypt, and with lumps, and with scurvy, and with itch, of which you are not able to be healed.
Yahvé te herirá con la úlcera de Egipto, con hemorroides, con sarna y tina, de que no podrás curarte.
28 YHWH strikes you with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart;
Yahvé te herirá con locura, con ceguera y con turbación de espíritu.
29 and you have been groping at noon, as the blind gropes in darkness; and you do not cause your ways to prosper; and you have been only oppressed and plundered [for] all the days, and there is no savior.
Andarás a tientas en pleno día como anda palpando el ciego en las tinieblas. No tendrás éxito en tus caminos, sino que todos los días serás oprimido y despojado sin que haya quien te libre.
30 You betroth a woman, and another man lies with her; you build a house, and do not dwell in it; you plant a vineyard, and do not make it common;
Te desposarás con una mujer, y otro la poseerá; edificarás una casa, y no habitarás en ella; plantarás una viña y no la disfrutarás.
31 your ox [is] slaughtered before your eyes, and you do not eat of it; your donkey [is] violently taken away from before you, and it is not given back to you; your sheep [are] given to your enemies, and there is no savior for you.
Tu buey será degollado delante de tus ojos, y tú no comerás de él; tu asno será robado en tu presencia, y no te será restituido; tus ovejas caerán en manos de tus enemigos, sin que haya quien las libre.
32 Your sons and your daughters [are] given to another people, and your eyes are looking and consumed for them all the day, but your hand is not to God!
Tus hijos y tus hijas serán dados a otro pueblo, y viéndolo tus ojos desfallecerán por ellos todo el día, y tu mano no podrá hacer nada.
33 A people whom you have not known eat the fruit of your ground and all your labor; and you have been only oppressed and bruised [for] all the days;
El fruto de tu tierra y todo el producto de tu trabajo, lo comerá un pueblo que tú no conoces; siempre serás oprimido y maltratado.
34 and you have been mad because of the sight of your eyes which you see.
Te volverás loco a causa de lo que verán tus ojos.
35 YHWH strikes you with a severe ulcer on the knees and on the legs (of which you are not able to be healed), from the sole of your foot even to your crown.
Yahvé te herirá con úlceras malignas en las rodillas y en las piernas, y no podrás curarte desde la planta del pie hasta la coronilla de la cabeza.
36 YHWH causes you and your king whom you raise up over you to go to a nation which you have not known, you and your fathers, and you have served other gods there—wood and stone;
Yahvé te transportará a ti y al rey que pongas sobre ti, a un pueblo desconocido de ti y de tus padres; y allá servirás a otros dioses, a leño y piedra.
37 and you have been for an astonishment, for an allegory, and for a byword among all the peoples to where YHWH leads you.
Y vendrás a ser un objeto de espanto, de proverbio y de befa entre todos los pueblos adonde Yahvé te llevará.
38 You take much seed out into the field, and you gather little in, for the locust consumes it;
Echarás mucha semilla en el campo, y recogerás poco, porque lo devorará la langosta.
39 you plant vineyards and have labored, but you do not drink wine, nor gather [grapes], for the worm consumes it;
Plantarás viñas y las labrarás, pero no beberás vino ni vendimiarás, porque lo comerá el gusano.
40 olives are yours in all your border, but you do not pour out oil, for your olive falls off.
Tendrás olivos en todos tus términos, mas no te ungirás con aceite, pues tus aceitunas se caerán.
41 You beget sons and daughters, but they are not with you, for they go into captivity;
Engendrarás hijos e hijas, pero no serán para ti, porque irán al cautiverio.
42 the locust possesses all your trees and the fruit of your ground;
Todos tus árboles y los frutos de tu tierra serán consumidos por los insectos.
43 the sojourner who [is] in your midst goes up very high above you, and you go down very low;
El extranjero que habita en medio de ti se elevará cada vez más sobre ti, en tanto que tú caerás cada vez más abajo.
44 he lends [to] you, and you do not lend [to] him; he is for head and you are for tail.
Él te prestará a ti, mas tú no le prestarás a él; él será cabeza, y tú serás cola.
45 And all these curses have come on you, and pursued you, and overtaken you, until you are destroyed, because you have not listened to the voice of your God YHWH, to keep His commands and His statutes which he has commanded you;
Todas estas maldiciones vendrán sobre ti, te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta que seas destruido, por no haber escuchado la voz de Yahvé, tu Dios, ni guardado sus mandamientos y leyes que Él te ha prescrito;
46 and they have been on you for a sign and for a wonder, also on your seed—for all time.
y quedarán en ti, como señal y portento, y también en tu descendencia, para siempre.
47 Because that you have not served your God YHWH with joy and with gladness of heart, because of the abundance of all things—
Por cuanto no serviste a Yahvé, tu Dios, con alegría y buen corazón a pesar de que abundaba todo,
48 you have served your enemies, whom YHWH sends against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in lack of all things; and He has put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you.
servirás a tus enemigos que Yahvé enviará contra ti, en hambre, en sed, en desnudez y todo género de miserias. Él pondrá sobre tu cuello un yugo de hierro, hasta aniquilarte.
49 YHWH lifts up a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth—it flies as the eagle—a nation whose tongue you have not heard,
Yahvé hará venir contra ti, desde lejos, desde los cabos de la tierra, con la rapidez del águila, una nación cuya lengua no entiendes,
50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not accept the face of the aged and does not favor the young;
gente de aspecto feroz, que no tendrá respeto al anciano ni compasión del niño.
51 and it has eaten the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; which does not leave to you grain, new wine, and oil, the increase of your oxen, and the wealth of your flock, until it has destroyed you.
Devorará el fruto de tu ganado y el fruto de tu tierra, hasta que seas destruido; pues no te dejará trigo, ni vino, ni aceite, ni las crías de tus vacas y ovejas, hasta exterminarte.
52 And it has laid siege to you in all your gates until your walls come down—the high and the fortified ones in which you are trusting, in all your land; indeed, it has laid siege to you in all your gates, in all your land which your God YHWH has given to you.
Te sitiará en todas las ciudades de tu país entero, hasta que caigan tus altas y fuertes murallas en que confiabas; te sitiará en todas tus ciudades, en todo el país que Yahvé, tu Dios, te habrá dado.
53 And you have eaten the fruit of your body, [the] flesh of your sons and your daughters (whom your God YHWH has given to you), in the siege and in the constriction with which your enemies constrict you.
En la angustia y estrechez a que te reducirán tus enemigos, comerás el fruto de tu seno, la carne de tus hijos y de tus hijas que Yahvé, tu Dios, te habrá concedido.
54 The man who is tender in you, and who [is] very delicate—his eye is evil against his brother, and against the wife of his bosom, and against the remnant of his sons whom he leaves,
El hombre más delicado y más regalado de entre vosotros mirará con malos ojos a su hermano, a la mujer de su corazón, y al resto de sus hijos que le queden,
55 against giving to one of them of the flesh of his sons whom he eats, because he has nothing left for himself in the siege and in the constriction with which your enemy constricts you in all your gates.
pues no quiere dar a ninguno de ellos de la carne de sus hijos que él comerá, por no quedarle nada en la angustia y estrechez a que te reducirán tus enemigos en todas tus ciudades.
56 The tender woman in you, and the delicate, who has not tried the sole of her foot to place on the ground because of delicateness and because of tenderness—her eye is evil against the husband of her bosom, and against her son, and against her daughter,
La mujer más delicada y más regalada de entre vosotros, que por ternura y delicadeza nunca probó poner la planta de su pie en el suelo, mirará con malos ojos al marido de su corazón, a su hijo y a su hija,
57 and against her seed which comes out from between her feet, even against her sons whom she bears, for she eats them in secret, in the lacking of everything, in the siege and in the constriction with which your enemy constricts you within your gates.
a las secundinas salidas de su seno y a los hijos que habrá dado a luz, pues, por falta de todo, los comerá ocultamente, en la angustia y en la estrechez a que te reducirán tus enemigos en tus ciudades.
58 If you do not observe to do all the words of this law which are written in this scroll, to fear this honored and fearful Name—your God YHWH—
Si no cuidas de poner en práctica todas las palabras de esta Ley, escritas en este libro, y si no temes este nombre glorioso y terrible de Yahvé, tu Dios,
59 then YHWH has made your strokes extraordinary, and the strokes [against] your seed [are] great strokes that are persisting and severe sicknesses that are persisting.
acrecentará Yahvé extraordinariamente las plagas contra ti y tu posteridad, plagas grandes y duraderas, enfermedades malignas y continuas.
60 And He has brought back all the diseases of Egypt on you, from the presence of which you have been afraid, and they have cleaved to you.
Hará venir de nuevo sobre ti todas las plagas de Egipto que tanto te horrorizaron, y se te pegarán.
61 Also every sickness and every stroke which is not written in the scroll of this law—YHWH causes them to go up on you until you are destroyed,
Yahvé hará venir sobre ti también todas las enfermedades y todas las plagas que no están escritas en el libro de esta Ley, hasta que seas destruido.
62 and you have been left with few men, whereas that you would have been as stars of the heavens for multitude, for you have not listened to the voice of your God YHWH.
Y después de haber sido numerosos como las estrellas del cielo, quedaréis muy pocos en número, por cuanto no has escuchado la voz de Yahvé, tu Dios.
63 And it has been, as YHWH has rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you, so YHWH rejoices over you to destroy you and to lay you waste; and you have been pulled away from off the ground to where you are going in to possess it;
Y así como Yahvé tenía placer en vosotros para haceros bien y para multiplicaros, de la misma manera tendrá placer en aniquilaros y destruiros. Y seréis arrancados de la tierra adonde tú vas para poseerla.
64 and YHWH has scattered you among all the peoples, from the end of the earth even to the [other] end of the earth; and you have served other gods there which you have not known, you and your fathers—wood and stone.
Te esparcirá Yahvé por entre todos los pueblos, de un cabo de la tierra hasta el otro cabo de la tierra; y allí servirás a otros dioses que ni tú ni tus padres conocisteis, a leño y piedra.
65 And you do not rest among those nations, indeed, there is no resting place for the sole of your foot, and YHWH has given to you a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and grief of soul there;
Y entre esos pueblos no encontrarás reposo ni descanso para la planta de tu pie; pues allí te dará Yahvé un corazón tembloroso, ojos decaídos y un alma abatida.
66 and your life has been hanging in suspense before you, and you have been afraid by night and by day, and you do not have assurance in your life;
Tu vida estará ante ti como pendiente de un hilo, tendrás miedo de noche y de día, y no confiarás de tu vida.
67 in the morning you say, O that it were evening! And in the evening you say, O that it were morning! (From the fear of your heart, with which you are afraid, and from the sight of your eyes which you see.)
A la mañana dirás: ¡Ojalá que fuera la tarde!, y a la tarde dirás: ¡Ojalá que fuera la mañana!, a causa del miedo que agita tu corazón y a causa de lo que tus ojos verán.
68 And YHWH has brought you back to Egypt in ships, by the way of which I said to you, You do not add to see it anymore; and you have sold yourselves to your enemies there, for menservants and for maidservants, and there is no buyer.”
Y Yahvé te volverá a llevar en navíos a Egipto, por el camino del cual te dijo: No volverás más a verlo; y allí os ofreceréis en venta a vuestros enemigos, por esclavos y esclavas, y no habrá quien os compre.”
