Deuteronomy 23
1 “No one wounded, bruised, or cut in the genitals enters into the assembly of YHWH;
Celui qui a les génitoires écrasés ou mutilés ne sera pas admis dans l’assemblée du Seigneur.
2 a bastard does not enter into the assembly of YHWH; even a tenth generation of him does not enter into the assembly of YHWH.
L’Enfant illégitime ne sera pas admis dans l’assemblée du Seigneur; sa dixième génération même ne pourra pas y être admise.
3 An Ammonite and a Moabite do not enter into the assembly of YHWH; even a tenth generation of them do not enter into the assembly of YHWH—for all time,
Un Ammonite ni un Moabite ne seront admis dans l’assemblée du Seigneur; même après la dixième génération ils seront exclus de l’assemblée du Seigneur, à perpétuité,
4 because that they have not come before you with bread and with water in the way, in your coming out from Egypt, and because he has hired against you Balaam son of Beor, of Pethor of Aram-Naharaim, to revile you;
parce qu’ils ne vous ont pas offert le pain et l’eau à votre passage, au sortir de l’Egypte, et de plus, parce qu’il a stipendié contre toi Balaam, fils de Beor, de Pethor en Mésopotamie, pour te maudire.
5 and your God YHWH has not been willing to listen to Balaam, and your God YHWH turns the reviling to a blessing for you, because your God YHWH has loved you;
Mais l’Éternel, ton Dieu, n’a pas voulu écouter Balaam, et l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a transformé pour toi l’imprécation en bénédiction; car il a de l’affection pour toi, l’Éternel, ton Dieu!
6 you do not seek their peace and their good all your days—for all time.
Ne t’intéresse donc jamais à leur bien-être et à leur prospérité, tant que tu vivras.
7 You do not detest an Edomite, for he [is] your brother; you do not detest an Egyptian, for you have been a sojourner in his land;
N’Aie pas en horreur l’lduméen, car il est ton frère; n’aie pas en horreur l’Egyptien, car tu as séjourné dans son pays.
8 sons who are begotten of them, a third generation of them, enter into the assembly of YHWH.
Les enfants qui naîtront d’eux, dès la troisième génération, pourront être admis dans l’assemblée du Seigneur.
9 When a camp goes out against your enemies, then you have kept from every evil thing.
Quand tu marcheras en corps d’armée contre tes ennemis, tu devras te garder de toute action mauvaise.
10 When there is a man who is not clean in you, from an accident at night, then he has gone out to the outside of the camp; he does not come into the midst of the camp;
S’Il se trouve dans tes rangs un homme qui ne soit pas pur, par suite d’un accident nocturne, il se retirera du camp, où il ne rentrera pas.
11 and it has been, at the turning of the evening, he bathes with water, and at the going in of the sun he comes into the midst of the camp.
Aux approches du soir, il se baignera dans l’eau, et, une fois le soleil couché, il rentrera dans le camp.
12 And you have a station at the outside of the camp, and you have gone out there outside;
Tu réserveras un endroit en dehors du camp, où tu puisses aller à l’écart;
13 and you have a peg on your staff, and it has been, in your sitting outside, that you have dug with it, and turned back, and covered your filth.
tu auras aussi une bêchette dans ton équipement, et quand tu iras t’asseoir à l’écart, tu creuseras la terre avec cet instrument et tu en recouvriras tes déjections.
14 For your God YHWH is walking up and down in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give your enemies before you, and your camp has been holy, and He does not see the nakedness of anything in you, and has turned back from after you.
Car l’Éternel, ton Dieu, marche au centre de ton camp pour te protéger et pour te livrer tes ennemis: ton camp doit donc être saint. Il ne faut pas que Dieu voie chez toi une chose déshonnête, car il se retirerait d’avec toi.
15 You do not shut up a servant to his lord, who escapes to you from his lord;
Ne livre pas un esclave à son maître, s’il vient se réfugier de chez son maître auprès de toi.
16 he dwells with you in your midst, in the place which he chooses within one of your gates, where it is pleasing to him; you do not oppress him.
Laisse-le demeurer chez toi, dans ton pays, en tel lieu qu’il lui plaira, dans telle de tes villes où il se trouvera bien; ne le moleste point.
17 There is not a whore among the daughters of Israel, nor is there a whoremonger among the sons of Israel;
Il ne doit pas y avoir une prostituée parmi les filles d’Israël, ni un prostitué parmi les fils d’Israël.
18 you do not bring the wage of a whore or the price of a dog into the house of your God YHWH for any vow; for even both of them [are] an abomination [to] your God YHWH.
Tu n’apporteras point dans la maison de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, comme offrande votive d’aucune sorte, le salaire d’une courtisane ni la chose reçue en échange d’un chien, car l’un et l’autre sont en horreur à l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
19 You do not lend in usury to your brother—usury of money, usury of food, usury of anything which is lent on usury.
N’Exige point d’intérêts de ton frère, ni intérêts pour argent, ni intérêts pour denrées ou pour toute chose susceptible d’accroissement.
20 You may lend in usury to a stranger, but you do not lend in usury to your brother, so that your God YHWH blesses you in every putting forth of your hand on the land to where you go in to possess it.
A l’étranger tu peux prêter à intérêt, tu ne le dois pas à l’égard de ton frère, si tu veux que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, bénisse tes divers travaux dans le pays où tu vas entrer pour en prendre possession.
21 When you vow a vow to your God YHWH, you do not delay to complete it; for your God YHWH certainly requires it from you, lest it has been sin in you.
Quand tu auras fait un vœu à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, ne tarde point à l’accomplir; autrement, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, ne manquerait pas de t’en demander compte, et tu aurais à répondre d’un péché.
22 And when you refrain to vow, it is not sin in you.
Si d’ailleurs tu t’abstiens de faire des vœux, tu ne seras pas répréhensible.
23 You keep and have done the utterance of your lips, as you have vowed to your God YHWH, a free-will offering which you have spoken with your mouth.
Mais la parole sortie de tes lèvres, tu dois l’exécuter religieusement, une fois que tu auras voué à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, une offrande volontaire, promise par ta propre bouche.
24 When you come into the vineyard of your neighbor, then you have eaten grapes according to your desire, your sufficiency, but you do not put [any] into your vessel.
Quand tu entreras dans la vigne de ton prochain, tu pourras manger des raisins à ton appétit, jusqu’à t’en rassasier; mais tu n’en mettras point dans ton panier.
25 When you come in among the standing grain of your neighbor, then you have plucked the ears with your hand, but you do not wave a sickle over the standing grain of your neighbor.”
Quand tu entreras dans les blés de ton prochain, tu pourras, avec la main, arracher des épis; mais tu ne porteras point la faucille sur les blés de ton prochain.
