< Deuteronomy 18 >

1 “There is not for the priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—a portion and inheritance with Israel; they eat fire-offerings of YHWH, even His inheritance,
“E ʻikai maʻu ʻe he kau taulaʻeiki ko e kau Livai, pea mo e faʻahinga kotoa pē ʻo Livai, ha tufakanga pe ha tofiʻa fakataha mo ʻIsileli: tenau kai ʻae ngaahi feilaulau kuo ngaohi ʻaki ʻae afi kia Sihova, mo hono tofiʻa ʻoʻona.
2 and he has no inheritance in the midst of his brothers; YHWH Himself [is] his inheritance, as He has spoken to him.
Ko ia ʻe ʻikai tenau maʻu ai ha tofiʻa mo honau ngaahi kāinga: ko Sihova ko honau tofiʻa ʻo hangē ko ʻene folofola kiate kinautolu.
3 And this is the priest’s right from the people, from those sacrificing a sacrifice, whether ox or sheep, he has even given to the priest the leg, and the two cheeks, and the stomach;
“Pea ko hono ʻinasi eni ʻoe taulaʻeiki mei he kakai, meiate kinautolu ʻoku ʻatu ha feilaulau, kapau ko e pulu pe ko e sipi; pea tenau ʻatu ki he taulaʻeiki hono alanga muʻa, mo hono kouʻahe fakatouʻosi pe, mo e kete.
4 you give to him the first of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your flock;
Ko e ʻuluaki fua ʻo hoʻo uite, mo hoʻo uaine, pea mo hoʻo lolo foki, mo e ʻuluaki fulufuluʻi sipi kuo kosi, ke ke ʻatu kiate ia.
5 for your God YHWH has fixed on him, out of all your tribes, to stand to serve in the Name of YHWH—him and his sons continually.
He kuo fili ia ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua mei ho ngaahi faʻahinga kotoa pē, ke tuʻu mo tauhi ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova, ʻaia mo hono ngaahi foha ke taʻengata.
6 And when the Levite comes from one of your cities, out of all Israel where he has sojourned, and has come with all the desire of his soul to the place which YHWH chooses,
“Pea kapau ʻe haʻu ha Livai mei ha kolo ʻe taha ʻi ʻIsileli kotoa pē, ʻaia naʻe nofo ʻāunofo ai ia, pea haʻu ia ʻi he holi lahi ʻa hono loto ki he potu ʻaia ʻe fili ʻe Sihova;
7 then he has ministered in the Name of his God YHWH like all his brothers, the Levites, who are standing there before YHWH.
‌ʻE toki tauhi ʻe ia ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova ko hono ʻOtua, ʻo hangē ko hono kāinga kotoa pē ʻi he kau Livai, ʻakinautolu ʻoku tuʻu ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova.
8 They eat portion like portion, apart from his sold things from the fathers.
Tenau ʻinasi tatau pe ʻi he meʻakai, neongo ʻa ʻene meʻa ʻaʻana ʻaia ʻoku tupu ʻi he fakatau ʻa hono tofiʻa.
9 When you are coming into the land which your God YHWH is giving to you, you do not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.
“ʻOka ke ka hoko atu ki he fonua ʻaia ʻoku foaki kiate koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻoua naʻa ke ako ke fai ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi meʻa fakalielia ʻoe ngaahi kakai ko ia.
10 There is not found in you one causing his son and his daughter to pass over into fire, a user of divinations, an observer of clouds, and an enchanter, and a sorcerer,
‌ʻOua naʻa ʻilo ha tokotaha ʻiate kimoutolu ʻoku tuku ʻa hono foha pe ko hono ʻofefine ke ʻalu atu ʻi he afi, pe ʻoku fai ʻae tuki, pe ʻoku tokanga ki he ngaahi kuonga, pe ko e fai meʻa mana loi, pe ko e taula fakafaʻahikehe.
11 and a charmer, and one inquiring from a familiar spirit, and a wizard, and one seeking to the dead.
Pe ko e tokotaha ʻoku kākā, pe kumi ki he laumālie kovi, pe ko e fieʻiloʻilo, pe ko ia ʻoku kumi ki he mate.
12 For everyone doing these [is] an abomination [to] YHWH, and because of these abominations your God YHWH is dispossessing them from your presence.
He ko kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni ʻoku kovi lahi kia Sihova: pea ko e meʻa ʻi he ngaahi meʻa kovi lahi ni ʻoku kapusi ai ʻakinautolu ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua mei ho ʻao.
13 You must be perfect with your God YHWH,
Ke ke angatonu koe kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
14 for these nations whom you are possessing listen to observers of clouds and to diviners; but you—your God YHWH has not permitted you so.
He ko e ngaahi puleʻanga, ʻaia ke ke hoko ʻo maʻu, naʻe fakaongo ki he kau tokanga ki he ngaahi kuonga, mo e kau kikite: ka ko koe, naʻe ʻikai tuku koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ke fai pehē.
15 Your God YHWH raises up for you a Prophet like me out of your midst, out of your brothers—you must listen to Him,
“ʻE fokotuʻu ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ha palōfita kiate koe, ʻi ho ngaahi kāinga, ʻo hangē ko au; ke mou tokanga kiate ia;
16 according to all that you asked from your God YHWH in Horeb, in the day of the assembly, saying, Do not let me add to hear the voice of my God YHWH, and do not let me see this great fire anymore, and I do not die;
‌ʻO fakatatau ki he meʻa kotoa pē naʻa ke holi ki ai kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ʻi Holepi ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe fakataha, ʻo pehē, ʻoua naʻaku toe ongoʻi ʻae leʻo ʻo Sihova ko hoku ʻOtua, pea ʻoua naʻaku toe mamata ki he afi lahi ni, telia naʻaku mate.
17 and YHWH says to me, They have done well [in] what they have spoken;
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ‘ʻOku lelei ʻaia kuo nau lea ki ai.
18 I raise up for them a Prophet like you out of the midst of their brothers, and I have given My words in His mouth, and He has spoken to them all that which I command Him;
Te u fokotuʻu kiate kinautolu ha Palōfita ʻi honau kāinga, ʻo hangē ko koe, pea te u ʻai ʻeku ngaahi lea ʻi hono ngutu; pea ʻe lea ʻaki ʻe ia kiate kinautolu ʻaia kotoa pē te u fekau kiate ia.
19 and it has been [that] the man who does not listen to My words which He speaks in My Name, I require [it] of him.
Pea ʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ko ia fulipē ʻe ʻikai tokanga ki heʻeku ngaahi lea ʻaia ʻe lea ʻaki ʻe ia ʻi hoku huafa, teu ʻeke ia kiate ia.
20 Only, the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My Name, which I have not commanded him to speak, and who speaks in the name of other gods, indeed, that prophet has died.
Ka ko e palōfita ko ia, ʻaia ʻoku fielahi pea lea ia ʻi hoku huafa, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te u fekau kiate ia ke lea, pe lea ia ʻi he hingoa ʻoe ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ʻe tāmateʻi ʻae palōfita ko ia.’
21 And when you say in your heart, How do we know the word which YHWH has not spoken?
Pea kapau ʻoku ke pehē ʻi ho loto, Te mau ʻilo fēfeeʻi ʻae lea ʻaia naʻe ʻikai folofolaʻaki ʻe Sihova?
22 That which the prophet speaks in the Name of YHWH, and the thing is not, and does not come—it [is] the word which YHWH has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it in presumption; you are not afraid of him.”
‌ʻOka lea ʻae palōfita ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova, ka ʻoku ʻikai muimui hano fakamoʻoni pe hoko ia, ko eni ʻae meʻa naʻe ʻikai folofolaʻaki ʻe Sihova, ka kuo lea fielahi ʻaki ia ʻe he palōfita: ʻe ʻikai te ke manavahē kiate ia.
