Deuteronomy 10

1 “At that time YHWH has said to me, Hew two tablets of stone for yourself like the first, and come up to Me into the mountain, and you have made an ark of wood for yourself,

Damals befahl mir Jahwe: Haue dir zwei steinerne Tafeln zurecht, wie die früheren waren, und steige herauf zu mir auf den Berg; auch verfertige dir eine hölzerne Lade!

2 and I write on the tablets the words which were on the first tablets, which you have broken, and you have placed them in the Ark.

Ich will auf die Tafeln die Worte schreiben, die auf den früheren Tafeln standen, die du zerbrochen hast, und dann sollst du sie in die Lade legen.

3 And I make an ark of shittim wood, and hew two tablets of stone like the first, and go up to the mountain with the two tablets in my hand.

Als ich demgemäß eine Lade aus Akazienholz verfertigt und zwei steinerne Tafeln, wie die früheren, zurechtgehauen hatte, stieg ich mit den beiden Tafeln in der Hand hinauf auf den Berg.

4 And He writes on the tablets according to the first writing, the Ten Commandments, which YHWH has spoken to you in the mountain, out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly, and YHWH gives them to me,

Da schrieb er die zehn Worte, die er am Tage der Versammlung auf dem Berg aus dem Feuer heraus zu euch geredet hatte, in der gleichen Schrift, wie zuvor, auf die Tafeln. Sodann übergab sie mir Jahwe.

5 and I turn and come down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the Ark which I had made, and they are there, as YHWH commanded me.

Da stieg ich wieder vom Berge herab und, wie mir Jahwe befohlen hatte, legte ich die Tafeln in die Lade, die ich verfertigt hatte, und sie blieben daselbst.

6 And the sons of Israel have journeyed from Beeroth of the sons of Jaakan to Mosera; Aaron died there, and he is buried there, and his son Eleazar acts as priest in his stead.

Und die Israeliten zogen von Beeroth Bene Jaakan nach Mosera. Dort starb Aaron und wurde dort begraben, und sein Sohn Eleasar wurde an seiner Statt Priester.

7 From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.

Von da zogen sie nach Gudgoda und von Gudgoda nach Jotha, einer Gegend, wo sich Wasserbäche finden.

8 At that time YHWH has separated the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH, to stand before YHWH, to serve Him, and to bless in His Name to this day;

Damals sonderte Jahwe den Stamm Levi dazu aus, daß er die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes trage, vor Jahwe als sein ständiger Diener stehe und in seinem Namen segne, wie es bis heute geschieht.

9 therefore there has not been a portion and inheritance for Levi with his brothers; YHWH Himself [is] his inheritance, as your God YHWH has spoken to him.

Darum fiel Levi kein Anteil noch Erbbesitz zu, wie seinen Brüdern; Jahwe ist sein Erbbesitz, wie Jahwe, dein Gott, ihm verheißen hat.

10 And I have stood in the mountain, as the former days, [for] forty days and forty nights, and YHWH also listens to me at that time; YHWH has not willed to destroy you.

Ich aber blieb, wie das erste Mal, vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte auf dem Berg, und Jahwe erhörte mich auch diesmal: Jahwe wollte dich nicht verderben.

11 And YHWH says to me, Rise, go to journey before the people, and they go in and possess the land which I have sworn to their fathers to give to them.

Und es befahl mir Jahwe: Auf, geh, um an der Spitze des Volks aufzubrechen, daß sie hinkommen und von dem Lande Besitz nehmen, das ich ihnen kraft des ihren Vätern geleisteten Eides verleihen will.

12 And now, O Israel, what is your God YHWH asking from you, except to fear your God YHWH, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve your God YHWH with all your heart and with all your soul,

Und nun, Israel, was fordert Jahwe, dein Gott, von dir, außer daß du Jahwe, deinen Gott, fürchtest und demgemäß immerdar auf seinen Wegen wandelst, daß du ihn liebst und Jahwe, deinem Gotte, von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele dienst,

13 to keep the commands of YHWH, and His statutes which I am commanding you today, for good for you?

indem du die Gebote und Satzungen Jahwes, die ich dir heute gebiete, zu deinem Besten beobachtest?

14 Behold, the heavens, even the heavens of the heavens, [belong] to your God YHWH, [as does] the earth and all that [is] in it.

Denn obwohl Jahwe, deinem Gotte, der Himmel bis zu seinen höchsten Höhen, die Erde und alles, was auf ihr ist, gehört,

15 Only, YHWH has delighted in your fathers, to love them, and He fixes on their seed after them—on you, out of all the peoples, as [at] this day.

hat sich doch Jahwe zu deinen Vätern allein geneigt, sie zu lieben, und hat nachher euch, ihre Nachkommen, aus allen Völkern erwählt, wie sich jetzt zeigt.

16 And you have circumcised the foreskin of your heart, and you do not harden your neck anymore.

So beschneidet nun die Vorhaut eures Herzens und zeigt euch fernerhin nicht mehr halsstarrig!

17 For He, your God YHWH, [is] God of the gods and Lord of the lords—the great, the mighty, and the fearful God, who does not accept by appearances, nor takes a bribe;

Denn Jahwe, euer Gott, ist der Gott der Götter und der Herr der Herren, der große, mächtige und furchtbare Gott, der keine Parteilichkeit kennt und keine Bestechung annimmt,

18 He is doing the judgment of fatherless and widow, and loving the sojourner, to give bread and raiment to him.

der Waisen und Witwen Recht schafft und den Fremdling liebt, daß er ihm Brot und Kleider giebt.

19 And you have loved the sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

Und ihr sollt den Fremdling lieben, denn ihr seid auch Fremdlinge in Ägypten gewesen.

20 You fear your God YHWH, you serve Him, and you cleave to Him, and you swear by His Name.

Jahwe, deinen Gott, sollst du fürchten, ihn verehren, ihm anhangen und bei seinem Namen schwören!

21 He [is] your praise, and He [is] your God, who has done these great and fearful [things] with you which your eyes have seen.

Er ist dein Gott, der an dir jene großen und furchtbaren Dinge gethan hat, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast.

22 Your fathers went down to Egypt with seventy persons, and now your God YHWH has made you as [the] stars of the heavens for multitude.”

In der Zahl von siebzig Seelen zogen deine Väter nach Ägypten, und jetzt läßt dich Jahwe, dein Gott, an Menge den Sternen des Himmels gleichen.
