Amos 3

1 Hear this word that YHWH has spoken concerning you, O sons of Israel, concerning all the family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

Fanongo ki he folofola ni ʻa Sihova ʻaia kuo ne folofolaʻaki kiate kimoutolu, ʻe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ki he kau nofoʻanga kotoa pē naʻaku ʻomi mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻo pehē,

2 “Only you have I known of all families of the earth, Therefore I charge on you all your iniquities.”

“Ko kimoutolu pe kuo u ʻilo ʻi he ngaahi faʻahinga kotoa pē ʻo māmani: ko ia te u tautea ʻakimoutolu koeʻuhi ko hoʻomou angahia kotoa pē.”

3 Do two walk together if they have not met?

‌ʻE faʻa ʻaʻeva ha toko ua, ka ʻoku ʻikai te na feʻofoʻofani pe?

4 Does a lion roar in a forest and he has no prey? Does a young lion give out his voice from his habitation, If he has not caught?

‌ʻE ngungulu ha laione ʻi he vao ʻakau, ʻoka ʻikai ha meʻakai? ʻE tangi ha laione mui ʻi hono ʻana, ʻi he ʻikai te ne moʻua ha meʻa?

5 Does a bird fall into a snare of the earth, And there is no trap for it? Does a snare go up from the ground, And it does not capture prey?

‌ʻE moʻua ha manupuna ʻi he fonua ʻoka ʻikai tauheleʻi? ʻE toʻo ʻae tauhele mei he fonua, ʻoku teʻeki ke tō ki ai ha meʻa siʻi ʻe taha?

6 Is a horn blown in a city, And do people not tremble? Is there affliction in a city, And YHWH has not done [it]?

‌ʻE ifi ʻae meʻalea ʻi he kolo, ka ʻe ʻikai manavahē ʻae kakai? ʻE hoko ha kovi ki he kolo, ka kuo ʻikai fai ia ʻe Sihova?

7 For Lord YHWH does nothing, Except He has revealed His counsel to His servants the prophets.

Ko e moʻoni ʻe ʻikai fai ha meʻa ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, kae taʻefakahā ia ki heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki ko e kau palōfita.

8 A lion has roared—who does not fear? Lord YHWH has spoken—who does not prophesy?

Kuo ngungulu ʻae laione, ko hai ʻe ʻikai manavahē? Kuo folofola ʻa Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ko hai ʻe ʻikai kikite?

9 “Sound to palaces in Ashdod, And to palaces in the land of Egypt, and say: Be gathered on mountains of Samaria, And see many troubles within her, And oppressed ones in her midst.

Fanongonongo ʻi he ngaahi fale fakaʻeiʻeiki ʻo ʻAsitoti, pea ʻi he ngaahi fale fakaʻeiʻeiki ʻo ʻIsipite, ʻo pehē, “Fakataha ʻakimoutolu ki he ngaahi moʻunga ʻo Samēlia, pea vakai ʻae ngaahi maveuveu lahi ʻi ai, pea mo e fakamālohia ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo ia.”

10 And they have not known to act straightforwardly,” A declaration of YHWH, “Who are treasuring up violence and spoil in their palaces.”

‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻOku ʻikai te nau ʻilo ke fai totonu, ʻoku fokotuʻu ʻae fakamālohi mo e kaihaʻa ʻi honau fale fakaʻeiʻeiki.”

11 Therefore, thus said Lord YHWH: “An adversary—and surrounding the land, And he has brought down your strength from you, And your palaces have been spoiled.”

12 Thus said YHWH: “As the shepherd delivers from the lion’s mouth Two legs, or a piece of an ear, So the sons of Israel are delivered, Who are sitting in Samaria on the corner of a bed, And in Damascus [on that of] a couch.

‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Hangē ʻoku toʻo ʻe he tangata tauhimanu ʻae alanga ʻe ua, pe ko e konga ʻoe telinga mei he ngutu ʻoe laione; ʻe pehē ʻae toʻo ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻoku nofo ʻi he tuliki ʻoe moheʻanga ʻi Samēlia, pea ʻi he tokotoʻanga ʻi Tamasikusi.”

13 Hear and testify to the house of Jacob,” A declaration of Lord YHWH, God of Hosts.

“Mou fanongo, pea fakahā ʻi he fale ʻo Sēkope,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi kautau.

14 “For in the day of My charging the transgressions of Israel on him, I have laid a charge on the altars of Beth-El, And the horns of the altar have been cut off, And they have fallen to the earth.

15 And I have struck the winter-house with the summer-house, And houses of ivory have perished, And many houses have been consumed,” A declaration of YHWH!

Pea te u taaʻi ʻae fale ʻoe faʻahitaʻu momoko fakataha mo e fale ʻoe faʻahitaʻu mafana; pea mo e ngaahi fale lei ʻe ʻauha, pea ʻe ʻosi ʻae ngaahi fale lahi,” he ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
