Amos 3
1 Hear this word that YHWH has spoken concerning you, O sons of Israel, concerning all the family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
Ascoltate questa parola che l’Eterno pronunzia contro di voi, o figliuoli d’Israele, contro tutta la famiglia ch’io trassi fuori dal paese d’Egitto:
2 “Only you have I known of all families of the earth, Therefore I charge on you all your iniquities.”
Voi soli ho conosciuto fra tutte le famiglie della terra; perciò io vi punirò per tutte le vostre iniquità.
3 Do two walk together if they have not met?
Due uomini camminano eglino assieme, se prima non si sono concertati?
4 Does a lion roar in a forest and he has no prey? Does a young lion give out his voice from his habitation, If he has not caught?
Il leone rugge egli nella foresta, se non ha una preda? il leoncello fa egli udir la sua voce dalla sua tana, se non ha preso nulla?
5 Does a bird fall into a snare of the earth, And there is no trap for it? Does a snare go up from the ground, And it does not capture prey?
L’uccello cade egli nella rete in terra, se non gli è tesa un insidia? La tagliuola scatta essa dal suolo, se non ha preso qualcosa?
6 Is a horn blown in a city, And do people not tremble? Is there affliction in a city, And YHWH has not done [it]?
La tromba suona essa in una città, senza che il popolo tremi? Una sciagura piomba ella sopra una città, senza che l’Eterno ne sia l’autore?
7 For Lord YHWH does nothing, Except He has revealed His counsel to His servants the prophets.
Poiché il Signore, l’Eterno, non fa nulla, senza rivelare il suo segreto ai suoi servi, i profeti.
8 A lion has roared—who does not fear? Lord YHWH has spoken—who does not prophesy?
Il leone rugge, chi non temerà? Il Signore, l’Eterno, parla, chi non profeterà?
9 “Sound to palaces in Ashdod, And to palaces in the land of Egypt, and say: Be gathered on mountains of Samaria, And see many troubles within her, And oppressed ones in her midst.
Proclamate questo sui palazzi d’Asdod e sui palazzi del paese d’Egitto; dite: “Adunatevi sui monti di Samaria, e vedete che grandi disordini esistono in mezzo ad essa, e quali oppressioni han luogo nel suo seno”.
10 And they have not known to act straightforwardly,” A declaration of YHWH, “Who are treasuring up violence and spoil in their palaces.”
Essi non sanno fare ciò ch’è retto, dice l’Eterno; accumulano nei loro palazzi i frutti della violenza e della rapina.
11 Therefore, thus said Lord YHWH: “An adversary—and surrounding the land, And he has brought down your strength from you, And your palaces have been spoiled.”
perciò, così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Ecco il nemico, tutt’attorno al paese; egli abbatterà la tua forza, e i tuoi palazzi saran saccheggiati.
12 Thus said YHWH: “As the shepherd delivers from the lion’s mouth Two legs, or a piece of an ear, So the sons of Israel are delivered, Who are sitting in Samaria on the corner of a bed, And in Damascus [on that of] a couch.
Così parla l’Eterno: Come il pastore strappa dalla gola del leone due gambe o un pezzo d’orecchio, così scamperanno i figliuoli d’Israele che in Samaria stanno ora seduti sull’angolo d’un divano o sui damaschi d’un letto.
13 Hear and testify to the house of Jacob,” A declaration of Lord YHWH, God of Hosts.
Ascoltate questo e attestatelo alla casa di Giacobbe! dice il Signore, l’Eterno, l’Iddio degli eserciti:
14 “For in the day of My charging the transgressions of Israel on him, I have laid a charge on the altars of Beth-El, And the horns of the altar have been cut off, And they have fallen to the earth.
Il giorno che io punirò Israele delle sue trasgressioni, punirò anche gli altari di Bethel; e i corni dell’altare saranno spezzati e cadranno al suolo.
15 And I have struck the winter-house with the summer-house, And houses of ivory have perished, And many houses have been consumed,” A declaration of YHWH!
E abbatterò le case d’inverno e le case d’estate; le case d’avorio saranno distrutte, e le grandi case spariranno, dice l’Eterno.
