Amos 2

1 Thus said YHWH: “For three transgressions of Moab, And for four, I do not reverse it, Because of his burning the bones of the king of Edom to lime,

Così dice il Signore: «Per tre misfatti di Moab e per quattro non revocherò il mio decreto, perchè ha bruciato le ossa del re di Edom per ridurle in calce;

2 And I have sent a fire against Moab, And it has consumed the palaces of Kerioth, And Moab is dying with noise, With shouting, with voice of a horn.

appiccherò il fuoco a Moab e divorerà i palazzi di Keriòt e Moab morirà nel tumulto, al grido di guerra, al suono del corno;

3 And I have cut off judge from her midst, And I slay all its heads with him,” said YHWH.

farò sparire da lui il giudice e tutti i suoi capi ucciderò insieme con lui», dice il Signore.

4 Thus said YHWH: “For three transgressions of Judah, And for four, I do not reverse it, Because of their loathing the Law of YHWH, And His statutes they have not kept, And their lies cause them to err, After which their fathers walked,

Così dice il Signore: «Per tre misfatti di Giuda e per quattro non revocherò il mio decreto, perchè hanno disprezzato la legge del Signore e non ne hanno osservato i decreti; si son lasciati traviare dai loro idoli che i loro padri avevano seguito;

5 And I have sent a fire against Judah, And it has consumed palaces of Jerusalem.”

appiccherò il fuoco a Giuda e divorerà i palazzi di Gerusalemme».

6 Thus said YHWH: “For three transgressions of Israel, And for four, I do not reverse it, Because of their selling the righteous for silver, And the needy for a pair of sandals.

Così dice il Signore: «Per tre misfatti d'Israele e per quattro non revocherò il mio decreto, perchè hanno venduto il giusto per denaro e il povero per un paio di sandali;

7 Who are panting for the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, And the way of the humble they turn aside, And a man and his father go to the girl, So as to defile My holy Name.

essi che calpestano come la polvere della terra la testa dei poveri e fanno deviare il cammino dei miseri; e padre e figlio vanno dalla stessa ragazza, profanando così il mio santo nome.

8 And they stretch themselves on pledged garments near every altar, And the wine of fined ones they drink [in] the house of their gods.

Su vesti prese come pegno si stendono presso ogni altare e bevono il vino confiscato come ammenda nella casa del loro Dio.

9 And I have destroyed the Amorite from before them, Whose height [is] as the height of cedars, And he [is] strong as the oaks, And I destroy his fruit from above, And his roots from beneath.

Eppure io ho sterminato davanti a loro l'Amorreo, la cui statura era come quella dei cedri, e la forza come quella della quercia; ho strappato i suoi frutti in alto e le sue radici di sotto.

10 And I have brought you up from the land of Egypt, And cause you to go in a wilderness forty years, To possess the land of the Amorite.

Io vi ho fatti uscire dal paese di Egitto e vi ho condotti per quarant'anni nel deserto, per darvi in possesso il paese dell'Amorreo.

11 And I raise of your sons for prophets, And of your choice ones for Nazarites, Is this not true, O sons of Israel?” A declaration of YHWH.

Ho fatto sorgere profeti tra i vostri figli e nazirei fra i vostri giovani. Non è forse così, o Israeliti?». Oracolo del Signore.

12 “And you cause the Nazarites to drink wine, And on the prophets you have laid a charge, Saying, Do not prophesy!

«Ma voi avete fatto bere vino ai nazirei e ai profeti avete ordinato: Non profetate!

13 Behold, I am pressing you under, As the full cart presses a sheaf for itself.

Ebbene, io vi affonderò nella terra come affonda un carro quando è tutto carico di paglia.

14 And refuge has perished from the swift, And the strong does not strengthens his power, And the mighty does not deliver his soul.

Allora nemmeno l'uomo agile potrà più fuggire, nè l'uomo forte usare la sua forza; il prode non potrà salvare la sua vita

15 And the handler of the bow does not stand, And the swift does not deliver [himself] with his feet, And the rider of the horse does not deliver his soul.

né l'arciere resisterà; non scamperà il corridore, nè si salverà il cavaliere.

16 And the courageous of heart among the mighty, Flees naked in that day,” A declaration of YHWH!

Il più coraggioso fra i prodi fuggirà nudo in quel giorno!». Oracolo del Signore.
