Acts 5
1 And a certain man, Ananias by name, with his wife Sapphira, sold a possession,
Mais un homme nommé Ananias, d'accord avec sa femme Sapphira, vendit une propriété,
2 and kept back of the price—his wife also knowing—and having brought a certain part, he laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.
mit de côté une partie du prix de vente, sa femme le sachant, et apportant le reste, le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
3 And Peter said, “Ananias, why did Satan fill your heart, for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?
Ananias, lui dit Pierre, pourquoi Satan s'est-il emparé de ton coeur, jusqu'à te faire mentir à l'Esprit saint, et te faire mettre de côté une partie du prix de ton champ?
4 While it remained, did it not remain yours? And having been sold, was it not in your authority? Why [is] it that you put this thing in your heart? You did not lie to men, but to God”;
Si tu ne l'avais pas vendu, ne te serait-il pas resté? et, si tu le vendais, ne pouvais-tu pas à ton gré disposer de sa valeur? comment as-tu pu former un pareil projet dans ton coeur? ce n'est pas à des hommes que tu as menti, c'est à Dieu.»
5 and Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, expired, and great fear came on all who heard these things,
A l'ouïe de ces paroles, Ananias tomba et expira. Tous les auditeurs furent frappés d'épouvante;
6 and having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried [him].
cependant les plus jeunes, s'étant levés, l'arrangèrent pour l'ensevelir, puis ils l'emportèrent et l'enterrèrent.
7 And it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what has happened, came in,
Il s'était écoulé trois heures environ, lorsque sa femme entra, ne sachant pas ce qui était arrivé.
8 and Peter answered her, “Tell me if for so much you sold the place”; and she said, “Yes, for so much.”
Pierre s'adressa à elle: «Dis-moi si c'est à ce prix-là que vous avez vendu votre champ?» Elle répondit: «C'est à ce prix-là.»
9 And Peter said to her, “How was it agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the LORD? Behold, the feet of those who buried your husband [are] at the door, and they will carry you forth”;
Mais Pierre: «Eh quoi! vous vous êtes concertés pour tenter l'Esprit du Seigneur! Voici les pas de ceux qui ont enseveli ton mari s'approchent de cette porte; ils vont t'emporter!»
10 and immediately she fell down at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried [her] by her husband;
A l'instant même elle tomba à ses pieds et expira; les jeunes gens qui rentraient la trouvèrent morte, ils l'emportèrent et l'enterrèrent à côté de son mari.
11 and great fear came on all the Assembly, and on all who heard these things.
L'Église tout entière et tous ceux qui apprirent ces faits furent frappés d'épouvante.
12 And through the hands of the apostles came many signs and wonders among the people, and they were all with one accord in the porch of Solomon;
Cependant il se faisait, dans le peuple, par les mains des apôtres, des miracles et des prodiges en grand nombre. Ceux-ci se tenaient d'habitude tous ensemble sous le portique de Salomon.
13 and of the rest no one was daring to join himself to them, but the people were magnifying them,
Aucun des autres n'osait entrer en rapport avec eux, mais le peuple leur montrait une grande admiration;
14 (and the more were believers added to the LORD, multitudes of both men and women),
des croyants toujours plus nombreux, des hommes et des femmes en foule s'attachaient au Seigneur;
15 so as to bring forth the ailing into the broad places, and to lay [them] on beds and pallets, that at the coming of Peter, even [his] shadow might overshadow someone of them;
c'était au point qu'on portait les malades jusque dans les rues, qu'on les déposait sur de petits lits et sur des grabats afin que, Pierre venant à passer, son ombre au moins couvrît quelqu'un d'eux.
16 and there were also coming together the people of the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, carrying ailing persons, and those harassed by unclean spirits—who were all healed.
Même des villes voisines, la foule accourait à Jérusalem, amenant des malades et des personnes tourmentées par des Esprits impurs: tous étaient guéris.
17 And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him—being the sect of the Sadducees—were filled with zeal,
Cependant le grand-prêtre et tous ceux de son parti (le parti des Sadducéens) se mirent en mouvement. Poussés par la jalousie,
18 and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in a public prison;
ils firent arrêter les apôtres et les jetèrent dans la prison publique.
19 but through the night a messenger of the LORD opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said,
Mais un ange du Seigneur ouvrit, pendant la nuit, les portes de la prison, les fit sortir et leur dit:
20 “Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life”;
«Allez vous montrer au Temple et annoncez au peuple toutes ces paroles de vie.»
21 and having heard, they entered into the temple at the dawn, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the Sanhedrin and all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought,
A ces mots, ils entrèrent au Temple dès le point du jour et reprirent leur enseignement. Cependant le grand-prêtre et ses partisans convoquèrent le Sanhédrin et tout le sénat des Israélites, puis ils envoyèrent chercher les apôtres à la prison.
22 and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told,
Leurs agents s'y rendirent donc et ne les y trouvèrent pas; ils revinrent et rapportèrent le fait en ces termes:
23 saying, “We indeed found the prison shut in all safety, and the keepers standing outside before the doors, and having opened—we found no one within.”
«Nous avons trouvé la prison fermée avec grand soin et les sentinelles se tenant aux portes; nous avons ouvert et, dedans, nous n'avons trouvé personne.»
24 And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come;
A l'ouïe de ces paroles, le capitaine du Temple et les chefs des prêtres se demandèrent avec inquiétude où étaient les apôtres et ce que tout cela deviendrait.
25 and coming near, a certain one told them, saying, “Behold, the men whom you put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people”;
Là-dessus, quelqu'un vint leur dire: «Les hommes que vous avez fait mettre en prison sont installés au Temple et enseignent le peuple.»
26 then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;
Le capitaine du Temple partit alors avec ses agents et les amena, mais sans employer la force, car ils avaient peur du peuple qui aurait pu les lapider.
27 and having brought them, they set [them] in the Sanhedrin, and the chief priest questioned them,
Ils les amenèrent donc et les introduisirent dans le Sanhédrin.
28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this Name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring on us the blood of this Man.”
Le grand-prêtre les interrogea «Ne vous avons-nous pas expressément interdit, leur dit-il, d'enseigner en ce nom-là, et voilà que vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre enseignement et que vous voulez faire retomber sur nous le sang de cet homme!»
29 And Peter and the apostles answering, said, “It is required to obey God, rather than men;
Mais Pierre et les apôtres répondirent par ces paroles: «Il faut obéir à Dieu plutôt qu'aux hommes; »
30 and the God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew, having hanged on a tree;
le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité Jésus que vous, vous avez fait mourir en le pendant à une croix.
31 this One, God, a Prince and a Savior, has exalted with His right hand, to give conversion to Israel, and forgiveness of sins;
Dieu, par sa droite, l'a élevé à la dignité de Chef et de Sauveur, pour donner à Israël la repentance et le pardon des péchés,
32 and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying Him.”
et nous, nous sommes témoins de ces choses, ainsi que le saint Esprit donné par Dieu à ceux qui lui obéissent.»
33 And they having heard, were cut [to the heart], and were intending to slay them,
Ce langage les exaspéra; ils voulaient les faire mettre à mort;
34 but a certain one, having risen up in the Sanhedrin—a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honored by all the people—commanded to put the apostles forth a little,
mais un des membres du Sanhédrin, un des Pharisiens, appelé Gamaliel, un légiste qui était estimé de tout le peuple, se leva et demanda qu'on fît sortir un instant les apôtres,
35 and said to them, “Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what you are about to do,
puis il dit: «Israélites, prenez bien garde à ce que vous allez faire à ces hommes;
36 for before these days Theudas rose up, saying that he was someone, to whom a number of men joined themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nothing.
il y a quelque temps s'est levé Theudas qui prétendait aussi être quelque chose, et quatre cents hommes environ se joignirent à lui; il fut tué et tous ceux qui s'étaient ralliés à lui ont été mis en déroute et réduits à rien.
37 After this one, Judas the Galilean rose up, in the days of the census, and drew away people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;
Après lui, à l'époque du recensement, s'est levé Judas le Galiléen, et il a attiré bien des gens à lui; celui-là aussi a péri, et tous ceux qu'il avait ralliés à lui ont été dispersés.
38 and now I say to you, refrain from these men, and leave them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown,
Eh bien, je vous dis ceci: Cessez vos poursuites et laissez aller ces hommes; car si cette entreprise ou cette oeuvre vient des hommes, elle tombera d'elle-même;
39 and if it be of God, you are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps you are also found fighting against God.”
si, au contraire, elle vient de Dieu, vous ne pourrez l'arrêter et vous risquez de vous trouver avoir combattu contre Dieu.»
40 And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten [them], they commanded [them] not to speak in the Name of Jesus, and let them go;
Ils se rangèrent à son avis et, ayant rappelé les apôtres, ils leur firent donner la bastonnade, puis leur défendirent de prêcher au nom de Jésus et les relâchèrent.
41 they, indeed, then, departed from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that for His Name they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor,
Les apôtres se retirèrent de devant le Sanhédrin pleins de joie d'avoir été jugés dignes de subir des outrages pour le nom de Dieu;
42 also every day in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news—Jesus the Christ.
et tous les jours, dans le Temple et dans leur maison, ils ne cessaient d'enseigner et d'annoncer l'Évangile de Jésus-Christ.
