Acts 5
1 And a certain man, Ananias by name, with his wife Sapphira, sold a possession,
Un homme nommé Ananias, avec Saphira sa femme, vendit une propriété,
2 and kept back of the price—his wife also knowing—and having brought a certain part, he laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.
et ayant, de concert avec elle, détourné quelque chose du prix, il en apporta une partie, et la déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
3 And Peter said, “Ananias, why did Satan fill your heart, for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?
Mais Pierre lui dit: «Ananias, pourquoi Satan a-t-il rempli ton coeur, que tu mentes au Saint-Esprit, et que tu aies détourné quelque chose du prix de ce fonds?
4 While it remained, did it not remain yours? And having been sold, was it not in your authority? Why [is] it that you put this thing in your heart? You did not lie to men, but to God”;
S'il demeurait sans être vendu, ne restait-il pas ta propriété? Et, après l'avoir vendu, n'étais-tu pas le maître de disposer du prix? Comment as-tu bien pu concevoir un pareil dessein? Tu as menti, non aux hommes, mais à Dieu.»
5 and Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, expired, and great fear came on all who heard these things,
En entendant ces paroles, Ananias tomba, et expira. Tous les auditeurs furent saisis d'une grande crainte.
6 and having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried [him].
Les plus jeunes s'étant levés l'arrangèrent et l'emportèrent pour l'enterrer.
7 And it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what has happened, came in,
Environ trois heures après, sa femme entra, sans rien savoir de ce qui s'était passé.
8 and Peter answered her, “Tell me if for so much you sold the place”; and she said, “Yes, for so much.”
Pierre lui adressa la parole: «Dis-moi si vous avez vendu le fonds tant?» Elle dit: «Oui, tant.»
9 And Peter said to her, “How was it agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the LORD? Behold, the feet of those who buried your husband [are] at the door, and they will carry you forth”;
Pierre lui dit: «Comment avez-vous bien pu vous entendre pour tenter l'Esprit du Seigneur? Voici, les pieds de ceux qui ont enterré ton mari sont à la porte... et ils t'emporteront»
10 and immediately she fell down at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried [her] by her husband;
Au même instant, elle tomba à ses pieds, et expira. Les jeunes gens, en entrant, la trouvèrent morte, ils l'emportèrent et l'enterrèrent auprès de son mari.
11 and great fear came on all the Assembly, and on all who heard these things.
Cet événement répandit une grande crainte dans toute l'assemblée, et parmi tous ceux qui en entendirent parler.
12 And through the hands of the apostles came many signs and wonders among the people, and they were all with one accord in the porch of Solomon;
Les apôtres faisaient beaucoup de miracles et de prodiges parmi le peuple, et les disciples étaient tous ensemble dans le portique de Salomon;
13 and of the rest no one was daring to join himself to them, but the people were magnifying them,
aucune autre personne n'osait se joindre à eux, mais le peuple les exaltait.
14 (and the more were believers added to the LORD, multitudes of both men and women),
Des croyants toujours plus nombreux, des multitudes d'hommes et de femmes, s'attachaient au Seigneur,
15 so as to bring forth the ailing into the broad places, and to lay [them] on beds and pallets, that at the coming of Peter, even [his] shadow might overshadow someone of them;
en sorte qu'on apportait les malades dans les rues et qu'on les plaçait sur de petits lits et sur des couchettes, afin que, lorsque Pierre passerait, son ombre au moins couvrit quelqu'un d'eux.
16 and there were also coming together the people of the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, carrying ailing persons, and those harassed by unclean spirits—who were all healed.
On venait aussi en foule des villes d'alentour à Jérusalem; on y apportait des malades et des gens tourmentés par des esprits impurs, et tous étaient guéris.
17 And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him—being the sect of the Sadducees—were filled with zeal,
Le souverain sacrificateur et tous ses adhérents, qui forment le parti des sadducéens, étaient pleins de haine contre les apôtres.
18 and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in a public prison;
Ils les firent arrêter et les jetèrent dans une prison publique;
19 but through the night a messenger of the LORD opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said,
mais un ange du Seigneur ouvrit pendant la nuit les portes de la prison, les fit sortir, et leur dit:
20 “Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life”;
«Allez, tenez-vous dans le temple, et enseignez au peuple toute la parole de vie: »
21 and having heard, they entered into the temple at the dawn, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the Sanhedrin and all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought,
ce qu'ayant entendu, ils entrèrent vers le point du jour dans le temple, et se mirent à enseigner. Cependant le souverain sacrificateur et ses adhérents s'étant réunis, convoquèrent le sanhédrin et tout le collège des anciens des fils d'Israël, et ils envoyèrent à la prison pour qu'on amenât les apôtres.
22 and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told,
Les agents s'y étant rendus, ne les y trouvèrent point, et revinrent faire leur rapport,
23 saying, “We indeed found the prison shut in all safety, and the keepers standing outside before the doors, and having opened—we found no one within.”
disant: «Nous avons trouvé la prison très-bien fermée et les sentinelles aux portes, mais, après avoir ouvert, nous n'avons trouvé personne dedans.»
24 And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come;
Cette nouvelle jeta le souverain sacrificateur, le commandant du temple et les principaux sacrificateurs dans la perplexité au sujet des prisonniers: ils ne savaient ce que ce pouvait être.
25 and coming near, a certain one told them, saying, “Behold, the men whom you put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people”;
Cependant on vint leur dire: «Voici, les hommes que vous aviez mis en prison, sont dans le temple, et ils enseignent le peuple.»
26 then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;
Alors le commandant partit avec ses agents, et les amena, mais sans employer la force, pour ne pas être lapidés, car ils craignaient le peuple.
27 and having brought them, they set [them] in the Sanhedrin, and the chief priest questioned them,
Après les avoir amenés ils les introduisirent dans le sanhédrin, et le souverain sacrificateur les interrogea, disant:
28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this Name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring on us the blood of this Man.”
«Nous vous avons formellement défendu d'enseigner en ce nom-là, et voici, vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre enseignement, et vous voulez faire retomber sur nous le sang de cet homme.»
29 And Peter and the apostles answering, said, “It is required to obey God, rather than men;
Pierre et les autres apôtres répondirent: «On doit obéir à Dieu plutôt qu'aux hommes.
30 and the God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew, having hanged on a tree;
Le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité Jésus, que vous avez tué en le pendant au bois;
31 this One, God, a Prince and a Savior, has exalted with His right hand, to give conversion to Israel, and forgiveness of sins;
il l’a élevé à sa droite, en qualité de Chef et Sauveur, pour donner à Israël la repentance et le pardon des péchés.
32 and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying Him.”
Nous sommes nous-mêmes ses témoins, les témoins de ce que nous avançons, et le Saint-Esprit que Dieu a donné à ceux qui lui obéissent, en est témoin avec nous.»
33 And they having heard, were cut [to the heart], and were intending to slay them,
Exaspérés de ce qu'ils venaient d'entendre, les sénateurs étaient d'avis de les faire mourir,
34 but a certain one, having risen up in the Sanhedrin—a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honored by all the people—commanded to put the apostles forth a little,
quand un pharisien, nommé Gamaliel, docteur de la Loi fort considéré de tout le peuple, ordonna de faire sortir un instant ces gens,
35 and said to them, “Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what you are about to do,
puis il dit: «Israélites, prenez bien garde à ce que vous allez faire à ces hommes.
36 for before these days Theudas rose up, saying that he was someone, to whom a number of men joined themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nothing.
Il n'y a pas longtemps que parut Theudas; il se donnait pour un grand personnage, et environ quatre cents hommes se rallièrent à lui: il a été mis à mort, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi ont été défaits et réduits à rien.
37 After this one, Judas the Galilean rose up, in the days of the census, and drew away people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;
Plus tard, à l'époque du dénombrement, s'éleva Judas le Galiléen qui entraîna du monde après lui: il a péri aussi, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi ont été dispersés.
38 and now I say to you, refrain from these men, and leave them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown,
Maintenant, je vous le dis, ne vous commettez pas avec ces gens et laissez-les tranquilles. Si cette idée, ou cette oeuvre vient des hommes, elle se détruira;
39 and if it be of God, you are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps you are also found fighting against God.”
mais si elle vient de Dieu, vous ne pourrez détruire ces gens. Prenez garde que vous ne vous trouviez aussi avoir fait la guerre à Dieu.»
40 And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten [them], they commanded [them] not to speak in the Name of Jesus, and let them go;
Ils se rangèrent à son avis. Ayant rappelé les apôtres, ils leur défendirent, après les avoir fait battre de verges, de parler au nom de Jésus, et ils les relâchèrent.
41 they, indeed, then, departed from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that for His Name they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor,
Pour eux, ils se retirèrent joyeux de devant le sanhédrin, parce qu'ils avaient été jugés dignes de souffrir des opprobres pour ce nom;
42 also every day in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news—Jesus the Christ.
et ils ne cessèrent chaque jour, dans le temple et à la maison, d'enseigner et d'annoncer que Jésus est le Messie.
