< Acts 2 >
1 And in the day of the Pentecost being fulfilled, they were all with one accord at the same place,
aparanjca nistArOtsavAt paraM panjcAzattamE dinE samupasthitE sati tE sarvvE EkAcittIbhUya sthAna Ekasmin militA Asan|
2 and there came suddenly out of the sky a sound as of a violent rushing wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting,
EtasminnEva samayE'kasmAd AkAzAt pracaNPAtyugravAyOH zabdavad EkaH zabda Agatya yasmin gRhE ta upAvizan tad gRhaM samastaM vyApnOt|
3 and there appeared to them divided tongues, as it were of fire; it also sat on each one of them,
tataH paraM vahnizikhAsvarUpA jihvAH pratyakSIbhUya vibhaktAH satyaH pratijanOrddhvE sthagitA abhUvan|
4 and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare.
tasmAt sarvvE pavitrENAtmanA paripUrNAH santa AtmA yathA vAcitavAn tadanusArENAnyadEzIyAnAM bhASA uktavantaH|
5 And there were Jews dwelling in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation of those under the heaven,
tasmin samayE pRthivIsthasarvvadEzEbhyO yihUdIyamatAvalambinO bhaktalOkA yirUzAlami prAvasan;
6 and the rumor of this having come, the multitude came together, and was confounded, because they were, each one, hearing them speaking in his proper dialect,
tasyAH kathAyAH kiMvadantyA jAtatvAt sarvvE lOkA militvA nijanijabhASayA ziSyANAM kathAkathanaM zrutvA samudvignA abhavan|
7 and they were all amazed, and wondered, saying to one another, “Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
sarvvaEva vismayApannA AzcaryyAnvitAzca santaH parasparaM uktavantaH pazyata yE kathAM kathayanti tE sarvvE gAlIlIyalOkAH kiM na bhavanti?
8 And how do we hear, each in our proper dialect, in which we were born?
tarhi vayaM pratyEkazaH svasvajanmadEzIyabhASAbhiH kathA EtESAM zRNumaH kimidaM?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea also, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,
pArthI-mAdI-arAmnaharayimdEzanivAsimanO yihUdA-kappadakiyA-panta-AziyA-
10 Phrygia also, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya that [are] along Cyrene, and the strangers of Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
phrugiyA-pamphuliyA-misaranivAsinaH kurINInikaTavarttilUbIyapradEzanivAsinO rOmanagarAd AgatA yihUdIyalOkA yihUdIyamatagrAhiNaH krItIyA arAbIyAdayO lOkAzca yE vayam
11 Cretes and Arabians, we heard them speaking the great things of God in our tongues.”
asmAkaM nijanijabhASAbhirEtESAm IzvarIyamahAkarmmavyAkhyAnaM zRNumaH|
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying to one another, “What would this wish to be?”
itthaM tE sarvvaEva vismayApannAH sandigdhacittAH santaH parasparamUcuH, asya kO bhAvaH?
13 And others mocking said, “They are full of sweet wine”;
aparE kEcit parihasya kathitavanta EtE navInadrAkSArasEna mattA abhavan|
14 and Peter having stood up with the Eleven, lifted up his voice and declared to them: “Men—Jews, and all those dwelling in Jerusalem! Let this be known to you, and listen to my sayings,
tadA pitara EkAdazabhi rjanaiH sAkaM tiSThan tAllOkAn uccaiHkAram avadat, hE yihUdIyA hE yirUzAlamnivAsinaH sarvvE, avadhAnaM kRtvA madIyavAkyaM budhyadhvaM|
15 for these are not drunken, as you take it up, for it is the third hour of the day.
idAnIm EkayAmAd adhikA vElA nAsti tasmAd yUyaM yad anumAtha mAnavA imE madyapAnEna mattAstanna|
16 But this is that which has been spoken through the prophet Joel:
kintu yOyElbhaviSyadvaktraitadvAkyamuktaM yathA,
17 And it will be in the last days, says God, I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh, And your sons and your daughters will prophesy, And your young men will see visions, And your old men will dream dreams;
IzvaraH kathayAmAsa yugAntasamayE tvaham| varSiSyAmi svamAtmAnaM sarvvaprANyupari dhruvam| bhAvivAkyaM vadiSyanti kanyAH putrAzca vastutaH|pratyAdEzanjca prApsyanti yuSmAkaM yuvamAnavAH| tathA prAcInalOkAstu svapnAn drakSyanti nizcitaM|
18 And also on My menservants, and on My maidservants, In those days, I will pour out of My Spirit, And they will prophesy;
varSiSyAmi tadAtmAnaM dAsadAsIjanOpiri| tEnaiva bhAvivAkyaM tE vadiSyanti hi sarvvazaH|
19 And I will give wonders in the sky above, And signs on the earth beneath—Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke,
UrddhvasthE gagaNE caiva nIcasthE pRthivItalE| zONitAni bRhadbhAnUn ghanadhUmAdikAni ca| cihnAni darzayiSyAmi mahAzcaryyakriyAstathA|
20 The sun will be turned to darkness, And the moon to blood, Before the coming of the Day of the LORD—the great and conspicuous;
mahAbhayAnakasyaiva taddinasya parEzituH| purAgamAd raviH kRSNO raktazcandrO bhaviSyataH|
21 And it will be, everyone who, if he may have called on the Name of the LORD, will be saved.
kintu yaH paramEzasya nAmni samprArthayiSyatE| saEva manujO nUnaM paritrAtO bhaviSyati||
22 Men, Israelites! Hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man approved of God among you by mighty works, and wonders, and signs, that God did through Him in the midst of you, according as also you yourselves have known,
atO hE isrAyElvaMzIyalOkAH sarvvE kathAyAmEtasyAm manO nidhaddhvaM nAsaratIyO yIzurIzvarasya manOnItaH pumAn Etad IzvarastatkRtairAzcaryyAdbhutakarmmabhi rlakSaNaizca yuSmAkaM sAkSAdEva pratipAditavAn iti yUyaM jAnItha|
23 this One, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, being given out, having been taken by lawless hands, having been crucified—you slew,
tasmin yIzau Izvarasya pUrvvanizcitamantraNAnirUpaNAnusArENa mRtyau samarpitE sati yUyaM taM dhRtvA duSTalOkAnAM hastaiH kruzE vidhitvAhata|
24 whom God raised up, having loosed the travails of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it;
kintvIzvarastaM nidhanasya bandhanAnmOcayitvA udasthApayat yataH sa mRtyunA baddhastiSThatIti na sambhavati|
25 for David says in regard to Him: I foresaw the LORD always before me—Because He is on my right hand—That I may not be moved;
Etastin dAyUdapi kathitavAn yathA, sarvvadA mama sAkSAttaM sthApaya paramEzvaraM| sthitE maddakSiNE tasmin skhaliSyAmi tvahaM nahi|
26 Because of this was my heart cheered, And my tongue was glad, And yet—my flesh will also rest on hope,
AnandiSyati taddhEtO rmAmakInaM manastu vai| AhlAdiSyati jihvApi madIyA tu tathaiva ca| pratyAzayA zarIrantu madIyaM vaizayiSyatE|
27 Because You will not leave my soul to Hades, Nor will You give Your Holy One to see corruption; (Hadēs )
paralOkE yatO hEtOstvaM mAM naiva hi tyakSyasi| svakIyaM puNyavantaM tvaM kSayituM naiva dAsyasi| EvaM jIvanamArgaM tvaM mAmEva darzayiSyasi| (Hadēs )
28 You made known to me ways of life, You will fill me with joy with Your countenance.
svasammukhE ya AnandO dakSiNE svasya yat sukhaM| anantaM tEna mAM pUrNaM kariSyasi na saMzayaH||
29 Men, brothers! It is permitted to speak with freedom to you concerning the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is among us to this day;
hE bhrAtarO'smAkaM tasya pUrvvapuruSasya dAyUdaH kathAM spaSTaM kathayituM mAm anumanyadhvaM, sa prANAn tyaktvA zmazAnE sthApitObhavad adyApi tat zmazAnam asmAkaM sannidhau vidyatE|
30 therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God swore to him with an oath, out of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, to raise up the Christ, to sit on his throne,
phalatO laukikabhAvEna dAyUdO vaMzE khrISTaM janma grAhayitvA tasyaiva siMhAsanE samuvESTuM tamutthApayiSyati paramEzvaraH zapathaM kutvA dAyUdaH samIpa imam aggIkAraM kRtavAn,
31 having foreseen, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left to Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. (Hadēs )
iti jnjAtvA dAyUd bhaviSyadvAdI san bhaviSyatkAlIyajnjAnEna khrISTOtthAnE kathAmimAM kathayAmAsa yathA tasyAtmA paralOkE na tyakSyatE tasya zarIranjca na kSESyati; (Hadēs )
32 God raised up this Jesus, of which we are all witnesses;
ataH paramEzvara EnaM yIzuM zmazAnAd udasthApayat tatra vayaM sarvvE sAkSiNa AsmahE|
33 then having been exalted at the right hand of God—also having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father—He poured forth this which you now see and hear;
sa Izvarasya dakSiNakarENOnnatiM prApya pavitra Atmina pitA yamaggIkAraM kRtavAn tasya phalaM prApya yat pazyatha zRNutha ca tadavarSat|
34 for David did not go up into the heavens, and he says himself: The LORD says to my Lord, Sit at My right hand,
yatO dAyUd svargaM nArurOha kintu svayam imAM kathAm akathayad yathA, mama prabhumidaM vAkyamavadat paramEzvaraH|
35 Until I make Your enemies Your footstool;
tava zatrUnahaM yAvat pAdapIThaM karOmi na| tAvat kAlaM madIyE tvaM dakSavArzva upAviza|
36 assuredly, therefore, let all the house of Israel know that God made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”
atO yaM yIzuM yUyaM kruzE'hata paramEzvarastaM prabhutvAbhiSiktatvapadE nyayuMktEti isrAyElIyA lOkA nizcitaM jAnantu|
37 And having heard, they were pricked to the heart; they also say to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, “What will we do, men, brothers?”
EtAdRzIM kathAM zrutvA tESAM hRdayAnAM vidIrNatvAt tE pitarAya tadanyaprEritEbhyazca kathitavantaH, hE bhrAtRgaNa vayaM kiM kariSyAmaH?
38 And Peter said to them, “Convert, and each of you be immersed on the Name of Jesus Christ, for forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,
tataH pitaraH pratyavadad yUyaM sarvvE svaM svaM manaH parivarttayadhvaM tathA pApamOcanArthaM yIzukhrISTasya nAmnA majjitAzca bhavata, tasmAd dAnarUpaM paritram AtmAnaM lapsyatha|
39 for the promise is to you and to your children, and to all those far off, as many as the LORD our God will call.”
yatO yuSmAkaM yuSmatsantAnAnAnjca dUrasthasarvvalOkAnAnjca nimittam arthAd asmAkaM prabhuH paramEzvarO yAvatO lAkAn AhvAsyati tESAM sarvvESAM nimittam ayamaggIkAra AstE|
40 Also with many more other words he was testifying and exhorting, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation”;
EtadanyAbhi rbahukathAbhiH pramANaM datvAkathayat EtEbhyO vipathagAmibhyO varttamAnalOkEbhyaH svAn rakSata|
41 then those, indeed, who gladly received his word were immersed, and there were added on that day, as it were, three thousand souls,
tataH paraM yE sAnandAstAM kathAm agRhlan tE majjitA abhavan| tasmin divasE prAyENa trINi sahasrANi lOkAstESAM sapakSAH santaH
42 and they were continuing steadfastly in the teaching of the apostles, and the fellowship, and the breaking of the bread, and the prayers.
prEritAnAm upadEzE saggatau pUpabhanjjanE prArthanAsu ca manaHsaMyOgaM kRtvAtiSThan|
43 And fear came on every soul, also many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles,
prEritai rnAnAprakAralakSaNESu mahAzcaryyakarmamasu ca darzitESu sarvvalOkAnAM bhayamupasthitaM|
44 and all those believing were at the same place, and had all things common,
vizvAsakAriNaH sarvva ca saha tiSThanataH| svESAM sarvvAH sampattIH sAdhAraNyEna sthApayitvAbhunjjata|
45 and they were selling the possessions and the goods, and were parting them to all, according as anyone had need.
phalatO gRhANi dravyANi ca sarvvANi vikrIya sarvvESAM svasvaprayOjanAnusArENa vibhajya sarvvEbhyO'dadan|
46 Also continuing daily with one accord in the temple, also breaking bread at every house, they were partaking of food in gladness and simplicity of heart,
sarvva EkacittIbhUya dinE dinE mandirE santiSThamAnA gRhE gRhE ca pUpAnabhanjjanta Izvarasya dhanyavAdaM kurvvantO lOkaiH samAdRtAH paramAnandEna saralAntaHkaraNEna bhOjanaM pAnanjcakurvvan|
47 praising God, and having favor with all the people, and the LORD was adding those being saved every day to the Assembly.
