Acts 17
1 And having passed through Amphipolis, and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where the synagogue of the Jews was,
Über Amphipolis und Appolonia gelangten sie nach Thessalonich, wo die Juden eine Synagoge hatten.
2 and according to the custom of Paul, he went in to them, and for three Sabbaths he was reasoning with them from the Writings,
Nach seiner Gewohnheit ging Paulus zu ihnen hinein und sprach an drei Sabbaten zu ihnen, wobei er von der Heiligen Schrift ausging.
3 opening and alleging that it was necessary [for] the Christ to suffer, and to rise again out of the dead, and that “this is the Christ—Jesus whom I proclaim to you.”
Er gab ihnen Aufschluß und legte dar, daß Christus leiden und von den Toten auferstehen mußte und: "dieser ist der Christus, Jesus, den ich euch verkünde".
4 And certain of them believed, and attached themselves to Paul and to Silas, also a great multitude of the worshiping Greeks, also not a few of the principal women.
Einige aus ihnen ließen sich überzeugen und schlossen sich Paulus und Silas an, ebenso eine Anzahl gottesfürchtiger Heiden und nicht wenige vornehme Frauen.
5 And the Jews, having been moved with envy, and having taken to themselves certain evil men of the agitators, and having made a crowd, were setting the city in an uproar; having also assailed the house of Jason, they were seeking them to bring [them] to the populace,
Hierüber wurden die Juden aufgebracht. Sie holten Marktgesindel herbei, erregten einen Auflauf und brachten die Stadt in Aufruhr. Sie zogen vor das Haus des Jason und suchten sie, um sie dem Volke vorzuführen,
6 and having not found them, they drew Jason and certain brothers to the city rulers, calling aloud, “These, having put the world in commotion, are also present here,
fanden sie aber nicht. So schleppten sie den Jason und einige Brüder vor die städtische Behörde und schrien: "Die Menschen, die die ganze Welt in Aufruhr bringen, sind auch hier.
7 whom Jason has received; and all these do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying another to be king—Jesus.”
Jason hat sie aufgenommen. Sie alle handeln den Verordnungen des Kaisers zuwider; sie sagen nämlich, ein anderer sei König, Jesus."
8 And they troubled the multitude and the city rulers, hearing these things,
So reizten sie das Volk und die Behörden auf, die das mitanhörten.
9 and having taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.
Diese ließen sich von Jason und den übrigen Bürgschaft geben und entließen sie dann.
10 And the brothers immediately, through the night, sent forth both Paul and Silas to Berea, who having come, went into the synagogue of the Jews;
Noch in derselben Nacht schickten die Brüder den Paulus und den Silas nach Beröa weiter. Nach ihrer Ankunft begaben sie sich in die Synagoge der Juden.
11 and these were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Writings every day [to see] whether those things were so;
Diese waren edler gesinnt als die in Thessalonich; sie nahmen das Wort mit aller Bereitwilligkeit an und forschten täglich in den Schriften, ob es sich auch so verhalte.
12 therefore, many of them, indeed, believed, and not a few of the honorable Greek women and men.
Viele von ihnen wurden gläubig und auch viele von den vornehmen heidnischen Frauen und Männern.
13 And when the Jews from Thessalonica knew that also in Berea was the word of God declared by Paul, they came there also, agitating the multitudes;
Als aber die Juden in Thessalonich erfuhren, daß das Wort Gottes von Paulus auch in Beröa verkündet werde, kamen sie auch dahin und brachten das Volk in Erregung und in Aufruhr.
14 and then immediately the brothers sent forth Paul, to go on as it were to the sea, but both Silas and Timotheus were remaining there.
Deshalb geleiteten die Brüder den Paulus sogleich scheinbar bis ans Meer, während Silas und Timotheus dort zurückblieben.
15 And those conducting Paul, brought him to Athens, and having received a command to Silas and Timotheus that with all speed they may come to him, they departed;
Die Begleiter des Paulus brachten ihn bis nach Athen. Von dort nahmen sie den Auftrag mit, Silas und Timotheus möchten so schnell wie möglich nachkommen; dann reisten sie ab.
16 and Paul waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, beholding the city wholly given to idolatry,
Während Paulus in Athen noch auf sie wartete, ward er innerlich tief erregt, da er sah, wie die Stadt voll von Götterbildern war.
17 therefore, indeed, he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the worshiping persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who met with him.
Er redete in der Synagoge mit den Juden und den Gottesfürchtigen und auf dem Markt tagtäglich zu denen, die gerade dorthin kamen.
18 And certain of the Epicurean and of the Stoic philosophers, were meeting together to see him, and some were saying, “What would this seed picker wish to say?” And others, “He seems to be an announcer of strange demons”; because he proclaimed to them Jesus and the resurrection as good news,
Dabei gerieten einige epikuräische und stoische Weltweise mit ihm zusammen, und manche sagten: "Was mag wohl dieser Schwätzer sagen wollen?" Andere: "Er scheint ein Herold fremder Gottheiten zu sein." Er verkündete nämlich die frohe Botschaft von Jesus und die Auferstehung.
19 having also taken him, they brought [him] to the Areopagus, saying, “Are we able to know what this new teaching [is] that is spoken by you,
Da nahmen sie ihn mit sich und führten ihn auf den Areopag und fragten, "Dürfen wir wohl wissen, was das für eine neue Lehre ist, die du verkündest?
20 for you bring certain strange things to our ears? We resolve, then, to know what these things would wish to be”;
Du gibst uns ja seltsame Dinge zu hören; wir möchten nun gern wissen, welche Bewandtnis es damit habe."
21 and all Athenians, and the strangers sojourning, for nothing else were at leisure but to say something, and to hear some newer thing.
Alle Athener und auch die Fremden, die dort wohnten, haben für nichts anderes Zeit, als das Allerneueste zu erzählen oder zu hören.
22 And Paul, having stood in the midst of the Areopagus, said, “Men, Athenians, in all things I perceive you as over-religious;
Da trat Paulus mitten im Areopag auf und sprach: "Ihr Männer von Athen! Ich finde, daß ihr durchaus gottesfürchtig seid.
23 for passing through and contemplating your objects of worship, I also found an altar on which had been inscribed: To God—unknown; whom, therefore—not knowing—you worship, this One I announce to you.
Denn als ich umherging und eure Götterbilder genau ansah, da fand ich einen Altar mit der Inschrift: 'Dem unbekannten Gott'. Was ihr verehrt, ohne es zu kennen, gerade das verkündige ich euch.
24 God, who made the world, and all things in it, this One, being Lord of Heaven and of earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands,
Gott, der die Welt und alles, was in ihr ist, erschaffen hat, der Herr des Himmels und der Erde, wohnt nicht in Tempeln, die von Menschenhänden gemacht sind;
25 neither is He served by the hands of men—needing anything, He giving life to all, and breath, and all things;
auch läßt er sich nicht von Menschenhänden bedienen, als ob er irgend etwas brauche; er selber spendet allem Leben, Odem und gar alles.
26 He also made every nation of man of one blood, to dwell on all the face of the earth—having ordained times before appointed, and the bounds of their dwellings—
Er hat aus einem Menschen das ganze menschliche Geschlecht entstehen lassen, damit es auf der ganzen Oberfläche der Erde wohne; er setzte auch die Zeiten fest und die Grenzen ihrer Wohnsitze.
27 to seek the LORD, if perhaps they felt after Him and found, though, indeed, He is not far from each one of us,
Sie sollen Gott suchen, ob sie ihn herausfühlten und fänden, ihn, der ja keinem aus uns ferne ist.
28 for in Him we live, and move, and are; as certain of your poets have also said: For we are also His offspring.
In ihm leben wir, bewegen wir uns und sind wir, wie es ja auch einige eurer Dichter sagen: 'Sind wir doch seines Geschlechtes'.
29 Being, therefore, offspring of God, we ought not to think the Godhead to be like to gold, or silver, or stone, [an] engraving of art and imagination of man;
Sind wir nun so göttlichen Geschlechtes, dann dürfen wir nicht meinen, die Gottheit sei dem Golde, dem Silber und dem Steine, Erzeugnissen der bildenden Kunst und menschlicher Erfindung gleich.
30 therefore indeed God, having overlooked the times of ignorance, now commands all men everywhere to convert,
Über die Zeiten der Unwissenheit hat Gott hinweggesehen; doch jetzt tut er den Menschen kund, daß alle allenthalben anderen Sinnes werden sollen,
31 because He set a day in which He is about to judge the world in righteousness, by a Man whom He ordained, having given assurance to all, having raised Him out of the dead.”
wie er denn einen Tag festgesetzt hat, an dem er die Welt in Gerechtigkeit richten wird. Und dazu hat er einen Mann bestimmt, den er vor allem dadurch beglaubigte, daß er ihn von den Toten auferweckt hat."
32 And having heard of a resurrection of the dead, some, indeed, were mocking, but others said, “We will hear you again concerning this”;
Als sie von einer Auferstehung von den Toten hörten, spotteten einige, andere aber sagten: "Hierüber wollen wir dich ein andermal hören."
33 and so Paul went forth from the midst of them,
So ging Paulus aus ihrer Mitte hinweg.
34 and certain men having cleaved to him, believed, among whom [is] also Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman, by name Damaris, and others with them.
Doch einige Männer schlossen sich ihm an und wurden gläubig, unter ihnen Dionysius, ein Mitglied des Areopags, und eine Frau namens Damaris und noch einige andere mit ihnen.
