Acts 15
1 And certain having come down from Judea, were teaching the brothers, “If you are not circumcised after the custom of Moses, you are not able to be saved”;
Or, quelques hommes venus de la Judée, enseignaient aux frères cette doctrine: Si vous n'êtes pas circoncis selon le rite mosaïque, vous ne pouvez être sauvés.
2 there having been, therefore, not a little dissension and debate to Paul and Barnabas with them, they arranged for Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of them, to go up to the apostles and elders to Jerusalem about this question;
Comme une discussion, et même une dispute assez vive, s'était élevée à ce sujet entre Paul et Barnabas, et ces gens-là, on décida que Paul et Barnabas, avec quelques-uns d'entre eux, monteraient à Jérusalem, auprès des apôtres et des anciens, pour traiter de cette affaire.
3 they indeed, then, having been sent forward by the assembly, were passing through Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the nations, and they were causing great joy to all the brothers.
Eux donc, après avoir été accompagnés par l'Église, traversèrent la Phénicie et la Samarie, racontant la conversion des Païens, et ils causèrent ainsi une grande joie à tous les frères.
4 And having come to Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly, and the apostles, and the elders; they also declared as many things as God did with them;
A leur arrivée à Jérusalem, ils furent accueillis par l'Église, les apôtres et les anciens, et ils rapportèrent tout ce que Dieu avait fait par leur moyen.
5 and there rose up certain of those of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, “It is required to circumcise them, to command them also to keep the Law of Moses.”
Mais quelques membres de la secte des pharisiens, qui avaient cru, se levèrent et dirent qu'il fallait circoncire les Païens, et leur enjoindre d'observer la loi de Moïse.
6 And there were gathered together the apostles and the elders, to see about this matter,
Alors les apôtres et les anciens s'assemblèrent pour examiner cette affaire.
7 and there having been much disputing, Peter having risen up said to them, “Men, brothers, you know that from former days God made choice among us, through my mouth, for the nations to hear the word of the good news, and to believe;
Après une longue discussion, Pierre se leva et leur dit: Mes frères, vous savez que, dès les premiers jours, Dieu m'a choisi parmi vous, pour faire entendre aux Païens par ma bouche la parole de l'Évangile, et pour les amener à la foi.
8 and the heart-knowing God bore them testimony, having given to them the Holy Spirit, even as also to us,
Dieu, qui connaît les coeurs, leur a rendu témoignage, en leur donnant le Saint-Esprit aussi bien qu'à nous;
9 and also put no difference between us and them, having purified their hearts by faith;
il n'a point fait de différence entre nous et eux, ayant purifié leurs coeurs par la foi.
10 now, therefore, why do you tempt God, to put a yoke on the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
Maintenant donc, pourquoi tentez-vous Dieu, en chargeant les disciples d'un joug que ni nos pères ni nous-mêmes n'avons pu porter?
11 But through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we believe to be saved, even as also they.”
Nous croyons, au contraire, que c'est par la grâce du Seigneur Jésus que nous sommes sauvés, de la même manière qu'eux.
12 And all the multitude kept silence and were listening to Barnabas and Paul expounding as many signs and wonders as God did among the nations through them;
Toute l'assemblée se tut, et on écoutait Barnabas et Paul, qui racontaient quels miracles et quels prodiges Dieu avait opérés par leur moyen, parmi les Païens.
13 and after they were silent, James answered, saying, “Men, brothers, listen to me:
Quand ils eurent cessé de parler, Jacques prit la parole et dit: Mes frères, écoutez-moi!
14 Simeon expounded how at first God looked on [us] to take a people out of [the] nations for His Name,
Simon a raconté comment, pour la première fois, Dieu a jeté les yeux sur les nations païennes, pour en tirer un peuple consacré à son nom.
15 and to this the words of the Prophets agree, as it has been written:
Cela s'accorde avec les paroles des prophètes; car il est écrit:
16 After these things I will return, And I will rebuild the dwelling place of David that has fallen down, And I will rebuild its ruins, And will set it upright—
«Après tout cela, je reviendrai, et je relèverai la tente de David, qui est tombée. Je réparerai ses ruines, et je la redresserai,
17 That the remnant of men may seek after the LORD, And all the nations on whom My Name has been called, Says the LORD, who is doing all these things.
afin que le reste des hommes et toutes les nations sur lesquelles mon nom est invoqué, cherchent le Seigneur. Ainsi parle le Seigneur qui accomplit ces choses; »
et elles lui sont connues de tout temps. (aiōn g165)
19 For this reason I judge: not to trouble those who turn back to God from the nations,
C'est pourquoi je suis d'avis qu'on ne doit pas inquiéter ceux des Païens qui se convertissent à Dieu;
20 but to write to them to abstain from the defilements of the idols, and the whoredom, and the strangled thing, and the blood;
mais il faut leur écrire de s'abstenir des souillures des idoles, de l'impudicité, des animaux étouffés et du sang.
21 for Moses has those preaching him from former generations in every city—being read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”
Car Moïse, depuis bien des générations, a dans chaque ville ses prédicateurs, puisqu'on le lit tous les jours de sabbat dans les synagogues.
22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole assembly, to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas chosen men out of themselves—Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers—
Alors les apôtres et les anciens, d'accord avec toute l'Église, décidèrent d'envoyer à Antioche, avec Paul et Barnabas, des personnes choisies parmi eux. Ils choisirent Jude, appelé Barsabas, et Silas, deux hommes éminents parmi les frères;
23 having written through their hand thus: “The apostles, and the elders, and the brothers, to those in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia, brothers, who [are] of the nations, greeting;
et ils les chargèrent de la lettre suivante: Les apôtres, les anciens et les frères, aux frères. Païens d'origine, qui sont à Antioche, en Syrie et en Cilicie, salut!
24 seeing we have heard that some having gone forth from us troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying to be circumcised and to keep the Law, to whom we gave no charge,
Ayant appris que quelques-uns d'entre nous, sans aucun mandat de notre part, vous ont troublés par leurs paroles et ont bouleversé vos âmes,
25 it seemed good to us, having come together with one accord, to send to you chosen men, with our beloved Barnabas and Paul—
nous avons été d'avis, d'un commun accord, de choisir des délégués et de vous les envoyer avec nos bien-aimés Barnabas et Paul,
26 men who have given up their lives for the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ—
ces hommes qui ont exposé leur vie pour le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
27 we have sent, therefore, Judas and Silas, and they are telling the same things by word.
Nous vous avons donc envoyé Jude et Silas, qui vous diront, de vive voix, les mêmes choses:
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay no more burden on you, except these necessary things:
C'est qu'il a semblé bon au Saint-Esprit et à nous de ne pas vous imposer d'autres charges que celles qui sont indispensables,
29 to abstain from things offered to idols, and blood, and a strangled thing, and whoredom; keeping yourselves from which, you will do well; be strong!”
savoir, de vous abstenir des viandes offertes en sacrifice aux idoles, du sang, des animaux étouffés et de l'impudicité; toutes choses dont vous vous trouverez bien de vous garder. Adieu!
30 They then, indeed, having been let go, went to Antioch, and having brought the multitude together, delivered the letter,
Eux donc, après avoir pris congé de l'Église, descendirent à Antioche; et ayant assemblé tous les frères, ils leur remirent la lettre.
31 and having read [it] they rejoiced for the consolation;
On en fit là lecture, et tous se réjouirent de l'encouragement qu'elle leur apportait.
32 Judas also and Silas, also being prophets themselves, through much discourse exhorted the brothers, and confirmed,
Jude et Silas, qui étaient eux-mêmes prophètes, exhortèrent et fortifièrent aussi les frères par plusieurs discours.
33 and having passed some time, they were let go with peace from the brothers to the apostles;
Au bout de quelque temps, les frères les renvoyèrent en paix auprès de ceux qui les avaient délégués.
34 [[and it seemed good to Silas to remain there still.]]
[Mais Silas jugea à propos de rester à Antioche.]
35 And Paul and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and proclaiming good news—with many others also—the word of the LORD;
Cependant Paul et Barnabas restèrent à Antioche, prêchant l'Évangile et enseignant avec plusieurs autres la parole du Seigneur.
36 and after certain days, Paul said to Barnabas, “Having turned back again, we may look after our brothers, in every city in which we have preached the word of the LORD—how they are.”
Quelque temps après, Paul dit à Barnabas: Retournons visiter les frères dans toutes les villes où nous avons annoncé la parole du Seigneur, et voyons en quel état ils se trouvent.
37 And Barnabas resolved to take with [them] John called Mark,
Barnabas voulait emmener aussi Jean, surnommé Marc.
38 and Paul was not thinking it good to take him with them who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and did not go with them to the work;
Mais Paul n'était pas d'avis d'emmener celui qui les avait quittés en Pamphylie, et qui ne les avait pas accompagnés pour être à l'oeuvre avec eux.
39 there came, therefore, a sharp contention, so that they were parted from one another, and Barnabas having taken Mark, sailed to Cyprus,
Il y eut entre eux une vive discussion, de sorte qu'ils se séparèrent, et que Barnabas, prenant Marc avec lui, s'embarqua pour l'île de Chypre.
40 and Paul having chosen Silas, went forth, having been given up to the grace of God by the brothers;
Quant à Paul, ayant choisi Silas, il partit, après avoir été recommandé par les frères à la grâce du Seigneur.
41 and he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the assemblies.
Il parcourut la Syrie et la Cilicie, affermissant les Églises.
