< Acts 13 >

1 And there were certain in Antioch, in the assembly there, prophets and teachers: both Barnabas, and Simeon who is called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen also—Herod the tetrarch’s foster-brother—and Saul;
Erant autem in Ecclesia, quae erat Antiochiae, prophetae, et doctores, in quibus Barnabas, et Simon, qui vocabatur Niger, et Lucius Cyrenensis, et Manahen, qui erat Herodis Tetrarchae collactaneus, et Saulus.
2 and in their ministering to the LORD and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate to Me both Barnabas and Saul to the work to which I have called them,”
Ministrantibus autem illis Domino, et ieiunantibus, dixit illis Spiritus sanctus: Segregate mihi Saulum, et Barnabam in opus, ad quod assumpsi eos.
3 then having fasted, and having prayed, and having laid the hands on them, they sent [them] away.
Tunc ieiunantes, et orantes, imponentesque eis manus, dimiserunt illos.
4 These, indeed, then, having been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus,
Et ipsi quidem missi a Spiritu sancto abierunt Seleuciam; et inde navigaverunt Cyprum.
5 and having come to Salamis, they declared the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they also had John [as] a servant;
Et cum venissent Salaminam, praedicabant verbum Dei in synagogis Iudaeorum. Habebant autem et Ioannem in ministerio.
6 and having gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain magus, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name [is] Bar-Jesus;
Et cum perambulassent universam insulam usque ad Paphum, invenerunt quendam virum magum pseudoprophetam, Iudaeum, cui nomen erat Barieu,
7 who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man; this one having called for Barnabas and Saul, desired to hear the word of God,
qui erat cum Proconsule Sergio Paulo viro prudente. Hic, accersitis Barnaba, et Saulo, desiderabat audire verbum Dei.
8 and there withstood them Elymas the magus—for so is his name interpreted—seeking to pervert the proconsul from the faith.
Resistebat autem illis Elymas magus, (sic enim interpretatur nomen eius) quaerens avertere Proconsulem a fide.
9 And Saul—who also [is] Paul—having been filled with the Holy Spirit, and having looked steadfastly on him,
Saulus autem, qui et Paulus, repletus Spiritu sancto, intuens in eum,
10 said, “O full of all guile, and all recklessness, son of a devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the right ways of the LORD?
dixit: O plene omni dolo, et omni fallacia, fili diaboli, inimice omnis iustitiae, non desinis subvertere vias Domini rectas.
11 And now, behold, a hand of the LORD [is] on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season”; and instantly there fell on him a mist and darkness, and he, going around, was seeking some to lead [him] by the hand;
Et nunc ecce manus Domini super te, et eris caecus, non videns solem usque ad tempus. Et confestim cecidit in eum caligo, et tenebrae, et circuiens quaerebat qui ei manum daret.
12 then the proconsul having seen what has come to pass, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the LORD.
Tunc Proconsul cum vidisset factum, credidit admirans super doctrina Domini.
13 And those around Paul having set sail from Paphos, came to Perga of Pamphylia, and John having departed from them, turned back to Jerusalem,
Et cum a Papho navigassent Paulus, et qui cum eo erant, venerunt Pergen Pamphyliae. Ioannes autem discedens ab eis, reversus est Ierosolymam.
14 and they having gone through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia, and having gone into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbaths, they sat down,
Illi vero pertranseuntes Pergen, venerunt Antiochiam Pisidiae: et ingressi synagogam die sabbatorum, sederunt.
15 and after the reading of the Law and of the Prophets, the chief men of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Men, brothers, if there be a word in you of exhortation to the people—say on.”
Post lectionem autem legis, et Prophetarum, miserunt principes synagogae ad eos, dicentes: Viri fratres, si quis est in vobis sermo exhortationis ad plebem, dicite.
16 And Paul having risen, and having beckoned with the hand, said, “Men, Israelites, and those fearing God, listen:
Surgens autem Paulus, et manu silentium indicens, ait: Viri Israelitae, et qui timetis Deum, audite:
17 the God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and He exalted the people in their sojourning in the land of Egypt, and He brought them out of it with a high arm;
Deus plebis Israel elegit patres nostros, et plebem exaltavit cum essent incolae in terra Aegypti, et in brachio excelso eduxit eos ex ea,
18 and about a period of forty years He endured their conduct in the wilderness,
et per quadraginta annorum tempus mores eorum sustinuit in deserto.
19 and having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He divided their land to them by lot.
Et destruens gentes septem in terra Chanaan, sorte distribuit eis terram eorum,
20 And after these things, about four hundred and fifty years, He gave judges—until Samuel the prophet;
quasi post quadringentos et quinquaginta annos: et post haec dedit iudices, usque ad Samuel Prophetam.
21 and thereafter they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years;
Et exinde postulaverunt regem: et dedit illis Deus Saul filium Cis, virum de tribu Beniamin, annis quadraginta.
22 and having removed him, He raised up to them David for king, to whom also having testified, He said, I found David, the [son] of Jesse, a man according to My heart, who will do all My will.
et amoto illo, suscitavit illis David regem: cui testimonium perhibens, dixit: Inveni David filium Iessae, virum secundum cor meum, qui faciet omnes voluntates meas.
23 Of this one’s seed, God, according to promise, raised to Israel a Savior—Jesus,
Huius Deus ex semine secundum promissionem eduxit Israel salvatorem Iesum,
24 John having first preached, before His coming, an immersion of conversion to all the people of Israel;
praedicante Ioanne ante faciem adventus eius baptismum poenitentiae omni populo Israel.
25 and as John was fulfilling the course, he said, Whom do you suppose I am? I am not [He], but behold, He comes after me, of whom I am not worthy to loose the sandal of [His] feet.
Cum impleret autem Ioannes cursum suum, dicebat: Quem me arbitramini esse? non sum ego, sed ecce venit post me, cuius non sum dignus calceamenta pedum solvere.
26 Men, brothers, sons of the race of Abraham, and those among you fearing God, to you was the word of this salvation sent,
Viri fratres, filii generis Abraham, et qui in vobis timent Deum, vobis verbum salutis huius missum est.
27 for those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their chiefs, having not known this One, also the voices of the Prophets, which are being read every Sabbath—having judged [Him]—fulfilled,
Qui enim habitabant Ierusalem, et principes eius hunc ignorantes, et voces prophetarum, quae per omne sabbatum leguntur, iudicantes impleverunt,
28 and having found no cause of death, they asked of Pilate that He should be slain,
et nullam causam mortis invenientes in eo, petierunt a Pilato, ut interficerent eum.
29 and when they fulfilled all the things written about Him, having taken [Him] down from the tree, they laid Him in a tomb;
Cumque consummassent omnia, quae de eo scripta erant, deponentes eum de ligno, posuerunt eum in monumento.
30 and God raised Him out of the dead,
Deus vero suscitavit eum a mortuis tertia die: qui visus est per dies multos his,
31 and He was seen for many days of those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people.
qui simul ascenderant cum eo de Galilaea in Ierusalem: qui usque nunc sunt testes eius ad plebem.
32 And we proclaim good news to you—that the promise made to the fathers,
Et nos vobis annunciamus eam, quae ad patres nostros repromissio facta est:
33 God has completed this in full to us their children, having raised up Jesus, as also in the second Psalm it has been written: You are My Son—I have begotten You today.
quoniam hanc Deus adimplevit filiis vestris resuscitans Iesum, sicut et in Psalmo secundo scriptum est: Filius meus es tu, ego hodie genui te.
34 And that He raised Him up out of the dead, to no longer return to corruption, He has said this: I will give to You the holy [blessings] of David [that are] faithful;
Quod autem suscitavit eum a mortuis, amplius iam non reversurum in corruptionem, ita dixit: Quia dabo vobis sancta David fidelia.
35 for what reason He also says in another [place]: You will not give Your Holy One to see corruption;
Ideoque et alias dicit: Non dabis Sanctum tuum videre corruptionem.
36 for David, indeed, having served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, and was added to his fathers, and saw corruption,
David enim in sua generatione cum administrasset, voluntati Dei dormivit: et appositus est ad patres suos, et vidit corruptionem.
37 but He whom God raised up, did not see corruption.
Quem vero Deus suscitavit a mortuis, non vidit corruptionem.
38 Let it therefore be known to you, men, brothers, that the forgiveness of sins is declared to you through this One,
Notum igitur sit vobis viri fratres, quia per hunc vobis remissio peccatorum annunciatur, et ab omnibus, quibus non potuistis in lege Moysi iustificari,
39 and from all things in the Law of Moses from which you were not able to be declared righteous, everyone who is believing in this One is declared righteous;
in hoc omnis, qui credit, iustificatur.
40 see, therefore, it may not come on you that has been spoken in the Prophets:
Videte ergo ne superveniat vobis quod dictum est in Prophetis:
41 See, you despisers, and wonder, and perish, because I work a work in your days, a work in which you may not believe, though anyone may declare [it] to you.”
Videte contemptores, et admiramini, et disperdimini: quia opus operor ego in diebus vestris, opus quod non credetis, siquis enarraverit vobis.
42 And having gone forth out of the synagogue of the Jews, the nations were calling on [them] that on the next Sabbath these sayings may be spoken to them,
Exeuntibus autem illis rogabant ut sequenti sabbato loquerentur sibi verba haec.
43 and the synagogue having been dismissed, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were persuading them to remain in the grace of God.
Cumque dimissa esset synagoga, secuti sunt multi Iudaeorum, et colentium Deum advenarum, Paulum, et Barnabam: qui loquentes suadebant eis ut permanerent in gratia Dei.
44 And on the coming Sabbath, almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word of God,
Sequenti vero sabbato pene universa civitas convenit audire verbum Dei.
45 and the Jews having seen the multitudes, were filled with zeal, and contradicted the things spoken by Paul—contradicting and slandering.
Videntes autem turbas Iudaei, repleti sunt zelo, et contradicebant his, quae a Paulo dicebantur, blasphemantes.
46 And speaking boldly, Paul and Barnabas said, “It was necessary that the word of God be first spoken to you, and seeing you thrust it away, and do not judge yourselves worthy of the continuous life, behold, we turn to the nations; (aiōnios g166)
Tunc constanter Paulus et Barnabas dixerunt: Vobis oportebat primum loqui verbum Dei: sed quoniam repellitis illud, et indignos vos iudicatis aeternae vitae, ecce convertimur ad Gentes. (aiōnios g166)
47 for so the LORD has commanded us: I have set you for a light of nations—for your being for salvation to the end of the earth.”
sic enim praecepit nobis Dominus: Posui te in lucem Gentium, ut sis in salutem usque ad extremum terrae.
48 And the nations hearing were glad, and were glorifying the word of the LORD, and believed—as many as were appointed to continuous life; (aiōnios g166)
Audientes autem Gentes gavisae sunt, et glorificabant verbum Domini: et crediderunt quotquot erant praeordinati ad vitam aeternam. (aiōnios g166)
49 and the word of the LORD was spread abroad through all the region.
Disseminabatur autem verbum Domini per universam regionem.
50 And the Jews stirred up the devout and honorable women, and the first men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and put them out from their borders;
Iudaei autem concitaverunt mulieres religiosas, et honestas, et primos civitatis, et excitaverunt persecutionem in Paulum, et Barnabam: et eiecerunt eos de finibus suis.
51 and having shaken off the dust of their feet against them, they came to Iconium,
At illi excusso pulvere pedum in eos, venerunt Iconium.
52 and the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
Discipuli quoque replebantur gaudio, et Spiritu sancto.
