Acts 10
1 And there was a certain man in Caesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a cohort that is called Italian,
In Cäsarea lebte damals ein Mann, der hieß Kornelius. Er diente als Hauptmann in der sogenannten Italischen Schar.
2 pious, and fearing God with all his house, also doing many kind acts to the people, and always imploring God;
Er war mit allen seinen Hausgenossen fromm und gottesfürchtig, tat dem (jüdischen) Volk viel Gutes und betete unablässig zu Gott.
3 he saw in a vision openly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius”;
Dieser Mann hatte eine himmlische Erscheinung. Um die neunte Tagesstunde sah er deutlich, wie ein Engel Gottes bei ihm eintrat, der ihm zurief: "Kornelius!"
4 and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your kind acts came up for a memorial before God,
Er starrte den Engel an und fragte voller Furcht: "Was wünschst du, Herr?" Der Engel antwortete ihm: "Deine Gebete und Liebeswerke sind zu Gott emporgestiegen, und er hat ihrer gnädig gedacht.
5 and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter;
So sende nun Männer nach Joppe und laß einen gewissen Simon, mit dem Zunamen Petrus, holen!
6 this one lodges with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one will speak to you what you must do.”
Der ist zu Gast bei einem Gerber Simon, der ein Haus am Meer hat."
7 And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his servants, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,
Als der Engel, der mit ihm geredet hatte, weggegangen war, rief Kornelius zwei von seinen Dienern und einen frommen Soldaten, der ihm treu ergeben war.
8 and having expounded all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
Er erzählte ihnen alles und sandte sie nach Joppe.
9 And on the next day, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour,
Am folgenden Tag, als diese auf dem Weg waren und sich schon der Stadt näherten, ging Petrus um die Mittagszeit auf das flache Dach des Hauses, um dort zu beten.
10 and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell on him a trance,
Er wurde sehr hungrig und wünschte etwas zu genießen. Während man ihm ein Mahl bereitete, kam eine Verzückung über ihn:
11 and he beholds Heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down on the earth,
Er sah den Himmel offen und eine Art Gefäß daraus herabkommen, das einem großen Linnentuch glich und sich an vier Enden auf die Erde niederließ.
12 in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the birds of the sky,
Darin waren alle Arten vierfüßiger und kriechender Tiere der Erde und Vögel des Himmels.
13 and there came a voice to him: “Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.”
Zugleich rief ihm eine Stimme zu: "Steh auf, Petrus, schlachte und iß!"
14 And Peter said, “Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean”;
Petrus aber antwortete: "Nun und nimmer, Herr! Denn ich habe nie etwas Gemeines und Unreines gegessen."
15 and [there is] a voice again a second time to him: “What God cleansed, you do not declare common”;
Da sprach eine Stimme zum zweitenmal zu ihm: "Was Gott gereinigt hat, das sieh du nicht als unrein an!"
16 and this was done three times, and again was the vessel received up to Heaven.
Dies wiederholte sich dreimal. Dann wurde das Gefäß sogleich wieder zum Himmel emporgehoben.
17 And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, behold, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,
Als Petrus über die Bedeutung des Gesichts, das er gehabt, noch bei sich im Zweifel war, in dem Augenblick standen die von Kornelius gesandten Männer, die sich nach Simons Haus durchgefragt hatten, an dem Toreingang,
18 and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, lodges here.
riefen und erkundigten sich, ob Simon, mit dem Zunamen Petrus, da zu Gast sei.
19 And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you;
Während Petrus noch immer über das Gesicht nachdachte, sprach der Geist zu ihm: "Sieh, drei Männer fragen nach dir.
20 but having risen, go down and go on with them, doubting nothing, because I have sent them”;
So steh nun auf, geh hinab und zieh ohne Bedenken mit ihnen; denn ich habe sie gesandt!"
21 and Peter having come down to the men who have been sent from Cornelius to him, said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek, what [is] the cause for which you are present?”
Da ging Petrus hinab und sprach zu den Männern: "Seht, ich bin es, den ihr sucht; was führt euch her?"
22 And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for you, to his house, and to hear sayings from you.”
Sie erwiderten: "Der Hauptmann Kornelius, ein gerechter und gottesfürchtiger Mann, dem das ganze jüdische Volk ein gutes Zeugnis gibt, hat von einem heiligen Engel den göttlichen Befehl empfangen, dich in sein Haus holen zu lassen und zu hören, was du ihm zu sagen hast."
23 Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the next day Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brothers from Joppa went with him,
Da ließ sie Petrus eintreten und beherbergte sie. Tags darauf machte er sich mit ihnen auf den Weg, und einige Brüder aus Joppe begleiteten ihn.
24 and on the next day they entered into Caesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and near friends,
Am folgenden Tag kamen sie in Cäsarea an. Kornelius wartete schon auf sie und hatte seine Verwandten und nächsten Freunde zu sich eingeladen.
25 and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at [his] feet, worshiped [him];
Als Petrus in das Haus eintreten wollte, ging ihm Kornelius entgegen und fiel ihm ehrfurchtsvoll zu Füßen.
26 and Peter raised him, saying, “Stand up; I am also a man myself”;
Petrus aber richtete ihn auf mit den Worten: "Steh auf, auch ich bin nur ein Mensch wie du!"
27 and talking with him he went in, and finds many having come together.
Dann ging er im Gespräch mit ihm ins Zimmer hinein. Dort fand er viele beisammen
28 And he said to them, “You know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come to, one of another race, but God showed to me to call no man common or unclean;
und sprach zu ihnen: "Ihr wißt ganz genau, wie streng es einem Juden verboten ist, mit einem Heiden zu verkehren oder ihn zu besuchen. Mir aber hat Gott gezeigt, keinen Menschen als unheilig oder unrein anzusehen.
29 therefore also without contradicting I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter you sent for me?”
Deshalb bin ich auch ohne Widerrede gekommen, als ich gerufen wurde. Ich frage nun: Warum habt ihr mich holen lassen?"
30 And Cornelius said, “Four days ago until this hour, I was fasting, and [at] the ninth hour praying in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in radiant clothing,
Da antwortete Kornelius: "Jetzt genau vor vier Tagen um die neunte Stunde betete ich in meinem Haus, als plötzlich ein Mann in glänzendem Gewand vor mir stand
31 and he said, Cornelius, your prayer was heard, and your kind acts were remembered before God;
und sprach: 'Kornelius, dein Gebet ist erhört, und deiner Almosen ist vor Gott gedacht worden.
32 send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one lodges in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, will speak to you;
So sende denn nach Joppe und laß Simon, mit dem Zunamen Petrus, zu dir bitten. Der hält sich auf im Haus des Gerbers Simon nahe dem Meer: er soll kommen und mit dir reden.'
33 at once, therefore, I sent to you; you also did well, having come; now, therefore, we are all present before God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
Sofort sandte ich zu dir, und du hast recht getan, daß du gekommen bist. Jetzt sind wir alle hier vor Gottes Angesicht versammelt, um alles zu hören, was du in des Herrn Auftrag zu uns reden sollst."
34 And Peter having opened his mouth, said, “Of a truth, I perceive that God is not favoring by appearance,
Da tat Petrus seinen Mund auf und sprach: "Nun sehe ich deutlich ein, daß Gott kein Volk dem anderen vorzieht,
35 but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;
sondern daß ihm in jedem Volk alle, die ihn fürchten und Gerechtigkeit üben, willkommen sind.
36 the word that He sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news—peace through Jesus Christ (this One is Lord of all),
Er hat seine Botschaft den Kindern Israel gesandt und Heil verkünden lassen durch Jesus Christus. Der ist ein Herr über alle.
37 you have known the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the immersion that John preached;
Ihr wißt, was in ganz Judäa geschehen und ausgegangen ist von Galiläa nach der Taufe, die Johannes verkündigt hat:
38 Jesus who [is] from Nazareth—how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the Devil, because God was with Him;
Jesus von Nazaret, von Gott mit der Kraft des Heiligen Geistes gesalbt, ist von Ort zu Ort gezogen. Er hat Gutes getan und alle geheilt, die unter des Teufels Herrschaft standen; denn Gott war mit ihm. —
39 and we are witnesses of all things that He did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem—whom they slew, having hanged [Him] on a tree.
Und wir sind Zeugen all der Taten, die er im Land der Juden und in Jerusalem vollbracht hat. — Den haben sie ans Kreuz geschlagen und getötet.
40 This One God raised up [on] the third day, and gave Him to become visible,
Gott aber hat ihn am dritten Tag auferweckt
41 not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God—to us who ate with [Him], and drank with Him, after His rising out of the dead;
und ihn dann nicht dem ganzen Volk erscheinen lassen, sondern nur den Zeugen, die er vorher erwählt hatte. Diese Zeugen sind wir. Wir haben auch mit ihm gegessen und getrunken nach seiner Auferstehung von den Toten.
42 and He commanded us to preach to the people, and to fully testify that it is He who has been ordained judge of living and dead by God—
Und er hat uns geboten, dem Volk zu predigen und zu bezeugen, daß er von Gott bestimmt ist zum Richter der Lebendigen und der Toten.
43 to this One do all the Prophets testify, that through His Name everyone that is believing in Him receives forgiveness of sins.”
Auf ihn weisen alle Propheten hin und bezeugen, daß durch seinen Namen alle, die an ihn glauben, Vergebung der Sünden empfangen sollen."
44 While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy Spirit fell on all those hearing the word,
Während Petrus noch diese Worte sprach, fiel der Heilige Geist auf alle, die seiner Rede zuhörten.
45 and those of circumcision [who were] believing were astonished—as many as came with Peter—because the gift of the Holy Spirit has also been poured out on the nations,
Die Gläubigen jüdischer Herkunft aber, die mit Petrus gekommen waren, gerieten außer sich vor Staunen, als sie wahrnahmen, daß auch über die Heiden die Gabe des Heiligen Geistes ausgegossen wurde.
46 for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.
Denn sie hörten sie in Zungen reden und Gott preisen. Da sprach Petrus:
47 Then Peter answered, “Is anyone able to forbid the water, that these may not be immersed, who received the Holy Spirit—even as us also?”
"Kann man das Wasser der Taufe diesen hier verweigern, die den Heiligen Geist empfangen haben ebenso wie wir?"
48 He commanded them to also be immersed in the Name of the LORD; then they implored him to remain certain days.
Und er befahl, sie in dem Namen Jesu Christi zu taufen. Dann bat man ihn, noch einige Tage dazubleiben.
