Acts 10
1 And there was a certain man in Caesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a cohort that is called Italian,
Cependant, à Césarée, un homme nommé Cornélius, centurion de la cohorte qui est appelé Italienne,
2 pious, and fearing God with all his house, also doing many kind acts to the people, and always imploring God;
pieux et craignant Dieu ainsi que toute sa famille, lequel faisait de nombreuses aumônes au peuple et adressait à Dieu de constantes prières,
3 he saw in a vision openly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius”;
vit clairement, dans une vision, environ vers la neuvième heure du jour, un ange de Dieu qui entrait vers lui et lui disait: « Cornélius! »
4 and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your kind acts came up for a memorial before God,
mais ce dernier, ayant fixé sur lui ses regards, et étant saisi de crainte, dit: « Qu'est-ce, Seigneur? » Et il lui dit: « Tes prières et tes aumônes sont montées en témoignage devant Dieu;
5 and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter;
et maintenant envoie des gens à Joppé et fais-en venir un certain Simon, qui est surnommé Pierre;
6 this one lodges with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one will speak to you what you must do.”
il loge chez un certain Simon corroyeur, dont la maison est proche de la mer. »
7 And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his servants, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,
Quand l'ange qui lui parlait fut parti, il appela deux de ses serviteurs et un soldat pieux d'entre ceux qui étaient attachés à sa personne,
8 and having expounded all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
et, après leur avoir tout raconté, il les dépêcha à Joppé.
9 And on the next day, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour,
Or, le lendemain, comme ils étaient en route et s'approchaient de la ville, Pierre monta sur le toit, vers la sixième heure, pour prier.
10 and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell on him a trance,
Mais il eut faim, et il voulait manger; or, pendant qu'on préparait le repas, il tomba en extase,
11 and he beholds Heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down on the earth,
et il vit le ciel s'ouvrir, et descendre un objet semblable à une grande toile, lequel par quatre coins était abaissé vers la terre,
12 in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the birds of the sky,
et où se trouvaient tous les quadrupèdes et les reptiles de la terre et les oiseaux du ciel.
13 and there came a voice to him: “Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.”
Et une voix lui dit: « Lève-toi, Pierre, tue et mange. »
14 And Peter said, “Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean”;
Mais Pierre dit: « Point du tout, Seigneur, car jamais je n'ai mangé quoi que ce soit de souillé, ni d'impur. »
15 and [there is] a voice again a second time to him: “What God cleansed, you do not declare common”;
Et derechef la voix s'adressant à lui pour la seconde fois: « Ce que Dieu a purifié, ce n'est pas à toi de le déclarer souillé. »
16 and this was done three times, and again was the vessel received up to Heaven.
Or ceci se répéta trois fois, et aussitôt l'objet fut remonté dans le ciel.
17 And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, behold, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,
Mais, comme Pierre était incertain en lui-même sur ce que pouvait signifier la vision qu'il avait vue, voici, les hommes dépêchés par Cornélius, après s'être enquis où était la maison de Simon, se présentèrent devant le porche,
18 and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, lodges here.
et, après avoir appelé, ils demandèrent: « Est-ce que Simon, surnommé Pierre, loge ici? »
19 And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you;
Or, pendant que Pierre réfléchissait sur la vision, l'Esprit dit: « Voici, deux hommes te cherchent,
20 but having risen, go down and go on with them, doubting nothing, because I have sent them”;
mais lève-toi, descends, et pars avec eux sans hésiter, car c'est moi qui les ai envoyés. »
21 and Peter having come down to the men who have been sent from Cornelius to him, said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek, what [is] the cause for which you are present?”
Or, Pierre étant descendu dit à ces hommes: « Voici, c'est moi qui suis celui que vous cherchez; quel est le motif qui vous amène? »
22 And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for you, to his house, and to hear sayings from you.”
Et ils dirent: « Cornélius, centurion, homme juste et craignant Dieu, et auquel toute la nation des Juifs rend un bon témoignage, a été averti par un saint ange de te faire venir dans sa maison et d'écouter ce que tu diras. »
23 Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the next day Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brothers from Joppa went with him,
Les ayant donc priés d'entrer, il les hébergea; mais le lendemain, il se leva pour partir avec eux; et quelques-uns des frères de Joppé l'accompagnèrent.
24 and on the next day they entered into Caesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and near friends,
Le lendemain il entra dans Césarée. Or Cornélius, qui les attendait, avait invité ses parents et ses intimes amis.
25 and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at [his] feet, worshiped [him];
Et, quand Pierre fut sur le point d'entrer, Cornélius allant à sa rencontre se jeta à ses pieds pour l'adorer;
26 and Peter raised him, saying, “Stand up; I am also a man myself”;
mais Pierre le releva en disant: « Lève-toi; moi-même aussi je suis un homme; »
27 and talking with him he went in, and finds many having come together.
et il entra en s'entretenant avec lui, et il trouva beaucoup de gens rassemblés,
28 And he said to them, “You know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come to, one of another race, but God showed to me to call no man common or unclean;
et il leur dit: « Vous savez à quel point il est interdit à un Juif de frayer ou de s'aboucher avec un étranger, eh bien, quant à moi, Dieu m'a appris à n'appeler aucun homme souillé ou impur;
29 therefore also without contradicting I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter you sent for me?”
c'est pourquoi je suis venu, sans même faire d'objections, sur l'invitation que j'ai reçue; informez-moi donc du motif pour lequel vous m'avez fait venir. »
30 And Cornelius said, “Four days ago until this hour, I was fasting, and [at] the ninth hour praying in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in radiant clothing,
Et Cornélius dit: « Il y a quatre jours, à cette heure-ci, que je faisais dans ma maison la prière de la neuvième heure, et voici, un homme se présenta devant moi en habit blanc,
31 and he said, Cornelius, your prayer was heard, and your kind acts were remembered before God;
et dit: « Cornélius! ta prière a été exaucée, et tes aumônes ont été remémorées devant Dieu;
32 send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one lodges in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, will speak to you;
envoie donc à Joppé, et fais-en venir Simon qui est surnommé Pierre; il loge dans la maison de Simon corroyeur proche de la mer. »
33 at once, therefore, I sent to you; you also did well, having come; now, therefore, we are all present before God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
Aussitôt donc j'ai envoyé vers toi, et tu as bien fait de venir; maintenant donc nous sommes tous présents devant Dieu, pour entendre tout ce qui t'est prescrit par le Seigneur. »
34 And Peter having opened his mouth, said, “Of a truth, I perceive that God is not favoring by appearance,
Et Pierre, ouvrant la bouche, dit: « Je comprends véritablement que Dieu ne fait pas acception de personnes,
35 but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;
mais qu'en toute nation celui qui le craint et qui pratique la justice Lui est agréable;
36 the word that He sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news—peace through Jesus Christ (this One is Lord of all),
Il a envoyé la parole aux fils d'Israël en leur annonçant la bonne nouvelle de la paix par Jésus-Christ; celui-ci est seigneur de tous.
37 you have known the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the immersion that John preached;
Vous savez ce qui s'est passé dans toute la Judée, à commencer par la Galilée après le baptême que Jean a prêché;
38 Jesus who [is] from Nazareth—how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the Devil, because God was with Him;
vous savez, en ce qui concerne Jésus de Nazareth, comment Dieu l'a oint d'esprit saint et de force, lui qui s'en est allé de côté et d'autre faisant du bien, et guérissant tous ceux qui étaient tyrannisés par le diable, car Dieu était avec lui,
39 and we are witnesses of all things that He did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem—whom they slew, having hanged [Him] on a tree.
et c'est nous qui sommes les témoins de tout ce qu'il a fait, soit dans le pays des Juifs, soit à Jérusalem; c'est lui qu'ils ont été jusqu'à mettre à mort en le pendant à une croix,
40 This One God raised up [on] the third day, and gave Him to become visible,
et que Dieu a ressuscité au bout de trois jours; et Il a permis qu'il apparût,
41 not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God—to us who ate with [Him], and drank with Him, after His rising out of the dead;
non pas à tout le peuple, mais aux témoins que Dieu avait élus d'avance, à nous qui avons mangé et bu avec lui, après qu'il fut ressuscité des morts;
42 and He commanded us to preach to the people, and to fully testify that it is He who has been ordained judge of living and dead by God—
et il nous a ordonné de prêcher au peuple et d'attester que c'est lui qui a été désigné par Dieu comme juge des vivants et des morts.
43 to this One do all the Prophets testify, that through His Name everyone that is believing in Him receives forgiveness of sins.”
C'est de lui que tous les prophètes attestent que quiconque croit en lui reçoit par son nom la rémission des péchés. »
44 While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy Spirit fell on all those hearing the word,
Pendant que Pierre prononçait encore ces mots, l'esprit saint tomba sur tous ceux qui écoutaient la parole.
45 and those of circumcision [who were] believing were astonished—as many as came with Peter—because the gift of the Holy Spirit has also been poured out on the nations,
Et les fidèles circoncis qui avaient accompagné Pierre étaient surpris que le don de l'esprit saint fût également répandu sur les Gentils;
46 for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.
car ils les entendaient parler en langues et magnifier Dieu. Alors Pierre reprit:
47 Then Peter answered, “Is anyone able to forbid the water, that these may not be immersed, who received the Holy Spirit—even as us also?”
« Est-ce que quelqu'un peut retenir l'eau, afin que le baptême ne soit pas administré à ces hommes qui ont reçu l'esprit saint aussi bien que nous? »
48 He commanded them to also be immersed in the Name of the LORD; then they implored him to remain certain days.
Et il ordonna qu'ils fussent baptisés au nom de Jésus-Christ. Alors ils le prièrent de séjourner quelques jours.
