2 Timothy 2
1 You, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that [is] in Christ Jesus,
So sei denn stark, mein Kind, in der Gnade Christi Jesu.
2 and the things that you heard from me through many witnesses, be committing these things to steadfast men, who will also be sufficient to teach others;
Was du von mir mit vielen Zeugen vernommen hast, vertraue zuverlässigen Männern an, die fähig sind, es wieder andere zu lehren.
3 you, therefore, suffer evil as a good soldier of Jesus Christ;
Ertrage mit mir Leiden als wackerer Streiter Christi Jesu!
4 no one serving as a soldier entangles himself with the affairs of life, that he may please him who enlisted him;
Kein Soldat Gottes läßt sich in zivile Geschäfte ein, sonst wird er dem Kriegsherrn nicht gefallen.
5 and if anyone also may strive, he is not crowned, except he may strive lawfully;
Auch wer im Ringkampf auftritt, erhält nur dann den Siegeskranz, wenn er ordnungsgemäß gekämpft hat.
6 it is first necessary [for] the laboring farmer to partake of the fruits;
Der Landmann, der sich abmüht, besitzt den ersten Anspruch auf die Früchte.
7 be considering what things I say, for the LORD gives to you understanding in all things.
Verstehe wohl, was ich damit sagen will. Der Herr wird dir Verständnis für alles geben.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised out of the dead, of the seed of David, according to my good news,
Denke an Jesus Christus, der von den Toten auferweckt wurde und ein Nachkomme Davids ist. So lautet ja mein Evangelium.
9 in which I suffer evil—to bonds, as an evildoer, but the word of God has not been bound;
Für dieses erdulde ich Leiden, selbst Fesseln wie ein Verbrecher; doch Gottes Wort läßt sich nicht fesseln.
10 because of this I endure all things, because of the chosen ones, that they also may obtain salvation that [is] in Christ Jesus, with perpetual glory. (aiōnios g166)
Darum ertrage ich alles um der Auserwählten willen, damit auch sie das Heil erlangen, das in Christus Jesus ruht, samt der ewigen Herrlichkeit. (aiōnios g166)
11 The word [is] steadfast: For if we died together—we will also live together;
Das Wort ist wahr: Wenn wir mit ihm gestorben sind, dann werden wir mit ihm auch leben.
12 if we endure together—we will also reign together; if we deny [Him], He will also deny us;
Wenn wir geduldig harren, dann werden wir mit ihm auch herrschen. Wenn wir verleugnen, wird er auch uns verleugnen.
13 if we are not steadfast, He remains steadfast; He is not able to deny Himself.
Und wenn wir untreu sind, er bleibt dennoch treu; er kann sich selbst ja nicht untreu werden.
14 Remind [them] of these things, testifying fully before the LORD—not to strive about words to nothing profitable, but to the subversion of those hearing;
Dies bringe in Erinnerung und so beschwöre vor Gott: Man soll nicht um leere Worte streiten; es führt ja doch zu nichts und bringt den Hörern nur Verderben.
15 be diligent to present yourself approved to God—a workman not ashamed, straightly cutting the word of truth;
Strebe eifrig danach, dich vor Gott bewährt zu zeigen als einen Arbeiter, der sich nicht zu schämen braucht, der das Wort der Wahrheit richtig handhabt.
16 and stand aloof from the profane vain talkings, for they will advance to more impiety,
Geh dem leeren und unheiligen Geschwätz aus dem Weg; es führt ja mehr und mehr zur Gottlosigkeit.
17 and their word will have pasture as a gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus,
Ein solches Geschwätz wird gleich einem Krebsgeschwür um sich greifen. Zu ihnen gehören auch Hymenäus und Philetus,
18 who swerved concerning the truth, saying the resurrection to have already been, and overthrows the faith of some;
die von der Wahrheit abgeirrt sind. Sie sagen nämlich, die Auferstehung sei bereits erfolgt, und sie bringen so manche um den Glauben.
19 sure, nevertheless, the foundation of God has stood, having this seal: “The LORD has known those who are His,” and, “Let him depart from unrighteousness—everyone who is naming the Name of Christ.”
Jedoch der feste Grundstein Gottes steht da und trägt die Inschrift: "Der Herr kennt die Seinen", und: "Jeder lasse von dem Unrecht, der den Namen des Herrn nennt."
20 And in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth, and some to honor, and some to dishonor:
In einem großen Hause gibt es nicht nur goldene und silberne Gefäße, vielmehr auch hölzerne und irdene; die einen dienen einem edlen Zwecke, die anderen einem niedrigen.
21 if, then, anyone may cleanse himself from these, he will be a vessel to honor, sanctified and profitable to the master—having been prepared to every good work;
Wer sich von diesen gründlich frei macht, der wird ein vornehmes Gefäß, geheiligt und brauchbar für den Herrn, zu jedem guten Werke geeignet.
22 and flee the youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those calling on the LORD out of a pure heart;
Fliehe die Lüste der Jugend. Strebe eifrig nach Gerechtigkeit, Glaube, Liebe, Friede mit denen, die mit reinem Herzen zum Herrn rufen.
23 and be avoiding the foolish and uninstructed questions, having known that they beget strife,
Die albernen und törichten Grübeleien weise ab; du weißt ja, daß sie nur zu Streitigkeiten führen.
24 and a servant of the LORD must not quarrel, but to be gentle to all, apt to teach, patient under evil,
Ein Knecht des Herrn soll aber nicht streiten, sondern gegen alle freundlich sein, geschickt im Lehren, geduldig auch das Böse tragen.
25 instructing those opposing in meekness—if perhaps God may give to them conversion to an acknowledging of the truth,
Sanftmütig weise er die Widersacher zurecht. Vielleicht schenkt ihnen Gott doch Sinnesänderung, so daß sie die Wahrheit erkennen
26 and they may awake out of the Devil’s snare, having been caught by him at his will.
und ernüchtert der Schlinge des Teufels sich entwinden, der sie gefangenhält, damit sie ihm zu Willen seien.
