2 Samuel 5

1 And all the tribes of Israel come to David, to Hebron, and speak, saying, “Behold, we [are] your bone and your flesh;

نمایندگان تمام قبایل اسرائیل به حبرون نزد داوود آمدند و به او گفتند: «ما از گوشت و استخوان تو هستیم.

2 also thus far, in Saul’s being king over us, you have been he who is bringing out and bringing in Israel, and YHWH says to you, You feed My people Israel, and you are for leader over Israel.”

حتی زمانی که شائول بر ما حکومت می‌کرد، سپاهیان ما را تو به جنگ می‌بردی و به سلامت بازمی‌گرداندی. و خداوند به تو گفت که تو باید شبان و رهبر قوم او باشی.»

3 And all [the] elderly of Israel come to the king, to Hebron, and King David makes a covenant with them in Hebron before YHWH, and they anoint David for king over Israel.

پس در حبرون، داوود در حضور خداوند با بزرگان اسرائیل عهد بست و آنها او را به عنوان پادشاه اسرائیل انتخاب کردند.

4 A son of thirty years [is] David in his being king; he has reigned [for] forty years;

(او پیش از آن، در سن سی سالگی به پادشاهی یهودا برگزیده شده بود و مدت هفت سال و شش ماه بود که در حبرون بر سرزمین یهودا سلطنت می‌کرد. علاوه بر این، مدت سی و سه سال نیز در اورشلیم بر اسرائیل و یهودا حکمرانی کرد. پس داوود روی‌هم‌رفته حدود چهل سال سلطنت کرد.)

5 he reigned over Judah in Hebron [for] seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned [for] thirty-three years, over all Israel and Judah.

6 And the king goes, and his men, to Jerusalem, to the Jebusite, the inhabitant of the land, and they speak to David, saying, “You do not come in here, except [that] you turn aside the blind and the lame,” saying, “David does not come in here.”

داوود پادشاه و سربازانش به اورشلیم حمله کردند تا با یبوسیان که در آنجا ساکن بودند بجنگند. یبوسیان به داوود گفتند: «هرگز به داخل شهر راه نخواهی یافت. حتی کوران و شلان، می‌توانند تو را از اینجا بیرون کنند.» آنها خیال می‌کردند در قلعهٔ خود در امان هستند.

7 And David captures the fortress of Zion, it [is] the City of David.

(اما داوود و سربازانش آنها را شکست داده، قلعهٔ صهیون را گرفتند. این قلعه امروز به «شهر داوود» معروف است.)

8 And on that day David says, “Anyone striking the Jebusite, let him go up by the watercourse (and the lame and the blind—the hated of David’s soul).” Therefore they say, “The blind and lame—he does not come into the house.”

وقتی پیغام توهین‌آمیز مدافعان شهر اورشلیم به داوود رسید، او به نیروهای خود این دستور را داد: «از مجرای قنات وارد شهر شوید و این یبوسیان شل و کور را که دشمن من هستند، نابود کنید.» (به این دلیل است که می‌گویند: «کور و شل وارد کاخ نخواهند شد.»)

9 And David dwells in the fortress, and calls it the City of David, and David builds all around, from Millo and inward,

پس داوود در قلعهٔ صهیون ساکن شده، آن را «شهر داوود» نامید. سپس از مِلو واقع در بخش قدیمی شهر، شروع کرده، به طرف مرکز شهر جدید در شمال، ساختمانهایی ساخت.

10 and David goes, going on and becoming great, and YHWH, God of Hosts, [is] with him.

به این ترتیب، روز‌به‌روز بر عظمت و قدرت داوود افزوده می‌شد زیرا خداوند، خدای لشکرهای آسمان با او بود.

11 And Hiram king of Tyre sends messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and craftsmen of wood, and craftsmen of stone, for walls, and they build a house for David,

حیرام، پادشاه صور، قاصدانی نزد داوود فرستاد. همراه این قاصدان، نجاران و بناهایی با چوب درختان سرو نیز فرستاده شدند تا برای داوود کاخی بسازند.

12 and David knows that YHWH has established him for king over Israel, and that He has lifted up his kingdom, because of His people Israel.

بنابراین، داوود فهمید که خداوند به خاطر قوم خود اسرائیل، او را پادشاه ساخته و سلطنتش را اینچنین برکت داده است.

13 And again David takes concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after his coming from Hebron, and again there are born to David sons and daughters.

داوود پس از آنکه از حبرون به اورشلیم رفت، بار دیگر زنان و کنیزان برای خود گرفت و صاحب دختران و پسران دیگری شد.

14 And these [are] the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammuah, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

فرزندانی که برای او در شهر اورشلیم متولد شدند، عبارت بودند از: شموع، شوباب، ناتان، سلیمان،

15 and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

یبحار، الیشوع، نافج، یافیع،

16 and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

الیشمع، الیاداع و الیفلط.

17 And the Philistines hear that they have anointed David for king over Israel, and all the Philistines come up to seek David, and David hears, and goes down to the fortress,

وقتی فلسطینی‌ها شنیدند داوود پادشاه اسرائیل شده است، تمام نیروهای خود را برای جنگ با او بسیج کردند. اما داوود چون این را شنید به داخل قلعه رفت.

18 and the Philistines have come, and are spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.

فلسطینی‌ها آمده، در درهٔ رفائیم اردو زدند.

19 And David asks of YHWH, saying, “Do I go up to the Philistines? Do You give them into my hand?” And YHWH says to David, “Go up, for I certainly give the Philistines into your hand.”

داوود از خداوند سؤال کرد: «اگر به جنگ فلسطینی‌ها بروم، آیا مرا پیروز می‌گردانی؟» خداوند فرمود: «بله، تو را بر دشمن پیروز می‌گردانم.»

20 And David comes to Ba‘al-Perazim, and David strikes them there, and says, “YHWH has broken forth [on] my enemies before me, as the breaking forth of waters”; therefore he has called the name of that place Ba‘al-Perazim.

پس داوود به بعل فراصیم آمد و در آنجا فلسطینی‌ها را شکست داد. داوود گفت: «خداوند بود که دشمنان ما را شکست داد! او چون سیلاب بر آنها خروشید.» به این دلیل است که آن محل بَعَل‌فِراصیم (یعنی «خداوندی که می‌خروشد») نام گرفت.

21 And they forsake their idols there, and David and his men lift them up.

داوود و سربازان او تعداد زیادی بت که فلسطینی‌ها برجای گذاشته بودند، برداشته، با خود بردند.

22 And the Philistines add again to come up, and are spread out in the Valley of Rephaim,

اما فلسطینی‌ها بار دیگر بازگشتند و در درهٔ رفائیم اردو زدند.

23 and David asks of YHWH, and He says, “You do not go up, turn around to their rear, and you have come to them from the front [[or in front]] of the mulberries,

وقتی داوود از خداوند سؤال کرد، خداوند به او گفت: «از روبرو به آنها حمله نکن، بلکه دور بزن و از میان درختان توت، از پشت سر حمله کن.

24 and it comes to pass, in your hearing the sound of a stepping in the tops of the mulberries, then you move sharply, for then YHWH has gone out before you to strike in the camp of the Philistines.”

وقتی صدای پایی بر سر درختان توت شنیدی، آنگاه حمله را شروع کن. چون این علامت آن است که من پیشاپیش شما حرکت می‌کنم و لشکر فلسطینی‌ها را شکست می‌دهم.»

25 And David does so, as YHWH commanded him, and strikes the Philistines from Geba to your coming to Gazer.

پس داوود، چنانکه خداوند به او فرموده بود، عمل کرد و فلسطینی‌ها را از جِبعه تا جازر سرکوب نمود.
