2 Samuel 4
1 And the son of Saul hears that Abner [is] dead in Hebron, and his hands are feeble, and all of Israel has been troubled.
Da Sauls sønn hørte at Abner var død i Hebron, falt han rent sammen, og hele Israel blev forferdet.
2 And two men, heads of troops, have been [to] the son of Saul, the name of the first [is] Baanah, and the name of the second Rechab, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the sons of Benjamin, for Beeroth is also reckoned to Benjamin,
Hos Sauls sønn var der to menn som var høvedsmenn for streif-flokker; den ene hette Ba'ana og den andre Rekab; de var sønner av Rimmon fra Be'erot og hørte til Benjamins barn. For Be'erot regnedes også til Benjamin -
3 and the Beerothites flee to Gittaim, and are sojourners there to this day.

4 And to Jonathan son of Saul [is] a son—lame; he was a son of five years at the coming in of the rumor of [the death of] Saul and Jonathan, out of Jezreel, and his nurse lifts him up, and flees, and it comes to pass in her hastening to flee, that he falls, and becomes lame, and his name [is] Mephibosheth.
Jonatan, Sauls sønn, hadde en sønn som var lam i begge føtter; han var fem år gammel da tidenden om Saul og Jonatan kom fra Jisre'el, og den kvinne som passet ham, tok ham og flyktet; men idet hun skyndte sig avsted, falt han ned og blev lam. Hans navn var Mefiboset.
5 And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, go, and come in at the heat of the day to the house of Ish-Bosheth, and he is lying down—the lying down of noon;
Be'erotitten Rimmons sønner, Rekab og Ba'ana, tok ut og kom på det heteste av dagen til Isbosets hus, mens han hvilte middag.
6 and they have come there, to the midst of the house, taking wheat, and they strike him to the fifth [rib], and Rechab and his brother Baanah have escaped;
De lot som de skulde hente hvete, og kom således helt inn i huset og stakk ham så i underlivet. Derefter slapp Rekab og hans bror Ba'ana bort.
7 indeed, they come into the house, and he is lying on his bed, in the inner part of his bed-chamber, and they strike him, and put him to death, and turn his head aside, and they take his head, and go the way of the plain all the night,
De kom inn i huset mens han lå på sin seng i sitt sovekammer, og stakk ham ihjel og hugg hodet av ham; så tok de hans hode og gikk hele natten gjennem ødemarken.
8 and bring in the head of Ish-Bosheth to David in Hebron, and say to the king, “Behold, the head of Ish-Bosheth, son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life; and YHWH gives vengeance to my lord the king this day, of Saul and of his seed.”
Og de kom med Isbosets hode til David i Hebron og sa til kongen: Se, her er hodet av Isboset, sønn til Saul, din fiende som stod dig efter livet; således har Herren på denne dag gitt min herre kongen hevn over Saul og hans ætt.
9 And David answers Rechab and his brother Baanah, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and says to them, “YHWH lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
Men David svarte Rekab og hans bror Ba'ana, be'erotitten Rimmons sønner, og sa til dem: Så sant Herren lever, han som har utfridd mig av all trengsel:
10 when one is declaring to me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, and he was as a bearer of tidings in his own eyes, then I take hold on him, and slay him in Ziklag, instead of my giving to him [for] the tidings.
Den som kom til mig med tidende om at Saul var død, og som selv mente at han kom med en god tidende, ham grep jeg og lot ham drepe i Siklag - ham som jeg skulde ha gitt lønn for god tidende,
11 Also—when wicked men have slain the righteous man in his own house, on his bed; and now, do I not require his blood from your hand, and have taken you away from the earth?”
hvor meget mere nu, da ugudelige menn har myrdet en rettferdig mann i hans hus og på hans leie - skulde jeg ikke nu kreve hans blod av eders hånd og utrydde eder av landet?
12 And David commands the young men, and they slay them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hang [them] over the pool in Hebron, and they have taken the head of Ish-Bosheth, and bury [it] in the burying-place of Abner in Hebron.
Så bød David sine folk, og de slo dem ihjel og hugg hendene og føttene av dem og hengte dem op ved dammen i Hebron; men Isbosets hode tok de og begravde i Abners grav i Hebron.
