2 Samuel 3
1 And the war is long between the house of Saul and the house of David, and David is going on and [is] strong, and the house of Saul is going on and [is] weak.
La guerre fut longue entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David. David allait se fortifiant, et la maison de Saül allait s'affaiblissant.
2 And there are sons born to David in Hebron, and his firstborn is Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess,
Il naquit à David des fils à Hébron. Son premier-né fut Ammon, d'Achinoam de Jezraël;
3 and his second [is] Chileab, of Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite, and the third [is] Absalom son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur,
le second Chéléab, d'Abigaïl de Carmel, femme de Nabal; le troisième Absalom, fils de Maaca, fille de Tholmaï, roi de Gessur;
4 and the fourth [is] Adonijah son of Haggith, and the fifth [is] Shephatiah son of Abital,
le quatrième Adonias, fils de Haggith; le cinquième Saphathia, fils d'Abital,
5 and the sixth [is] Ithream, of Eglah wife of David; these have been born to David in Hebron.
et le sixième Jéthraam, d'Egla, femme de David. Tels sont les fils qui naquirent à David à Hébron.
6 And it comes to pass, in the war being between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner has been strengthening himself in the house of Saul,
Pendant qu'il y avait guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David, Abner se fortifiait dans la maison de Saül.
7 and Saul has a concubine, and her name [is] Rizpah daughter of Aiah, and [Ish-Bosheth] says to Abner, “Why have you gone in to the concubine of my father?”
Or Saül avait eu une concubine, nommée Respha, fille d'Aia. Et Isboseth dit à Abner:
8 And it is exceedingly displeasing to Abner, because of the words of Ish-Bosheth, and he says, “[Am] I the head of a dog—that in reference to Judah, today I do kindness with the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David—that you charge against me iniquity concerning the woman today?
« Pourquoi es-tu venu vers la concubine de mon père? » Abner, très irrité des paroles d'Isboseth, répondit: « Suis-je une tête de chien appartenant à Juda? Aujourd'hui je montre de la faveur à la maison de Saül, ton père, à ses frères et à ses amis, et je ne t'ai point livré aux mains de David, et c'est aujourd'hui que tu me reproches une faute avec cette femme?
9 Thus God does to Abner, and thus He adds to him, surely as YHWH has sworn to David—surely so I do to him:
Que Dieu traite Abner dans toute sa rigueur, si je n'agis pas avec David selon ce que Yahweh lui a juré,
10 to cause the kingdom to pass over from the house of Saul, and to raise up the throne of David over Israel, and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer-Sheba.”
en disant qu'il enlèverait la royauté de la maison de Saül, et qu'il établirait le trône de David sur Israël et sur Juda, depuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée! »
11 And he is not able to return a word [to] Abner anymore, because of his fearing him.
Isboseth ne put répondre un seul mot à Abner, parce qu'il le craignait.
12 And Abner sends messengers to David for himself, saying, “Whose [is] the land?” [And] saying, “Make your covenant with me, and behold, my hand [is] with you, to bring around all Israel to you.”
Abner envoya des messagers à David pour lui dire de sa part: « A qui est le pays? Fais ton alliance avec moi, et voici que ma main t'aidera pour tourner vers toi tout Israël. »
13 And [David] says, “Good—I make a covenant with you; only, one thing I am asking of you, that is, you do not see my face, except [that] you first bring in Michal daughter of Saul in your coming in to see my face.”
Il répondit: « Bien! je ferai alliance avec toi; mais je te demande une chose, c'est que tu ne voies pas ma face sans m'amener Michol, fille de Saül, lorsque tu viendras pour voir ma face. »
14 And David sends messengers to Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, saying, “Give up my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself with one hundred foreskins of the Philistines.”
Et David envoya des messagers à Isboseth, fils de Saül, pour lui dire: « Donne-moi ma femme Michol, que j'ai épousée pour cent prépuces de Philistins. »
15 And Ish-Bosheth sends, and takes her from a man, from Phaltiel son of Laish,
Isboseth l'envoya prendre à son mari Phaltiel, fils de Laïs;
16 and her husband goes with her, going on and weeping behind her, to Bahurim, and Abner says to him, “Go, return”; and he turns back.
et son mari l'accompagna, marchant et pleurant derrière elle, jusqu'à Bathurim. Là Abner lui dit: « Va, retourne chez toi. » Et il s'en retourna.
17 And the word of Abner was with [the] elderly of Israel, saying, “Thus far you have been seeking David for king over you,
Abner eut des pourparlers avec les anciens d'Israël, et leur dit: « Vous désiriez depuis longtemps déjà avoir David pour roi;
18 and now, do [it], for YHWH has spoken of David saying, [It is] by the hand of my servant David to save My people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.”
agissez donc maintenant, car Yahweh a dit à David: C'est par la main de David, mon serviteur, que je délivrerai mon peuple d'Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis. »
19 And Abner also speaks in the ears of Benjamin, and Abner also goes to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that [is] good in the eyes of Israel, and in the eyes of all the house of Benjamin,
Abner parla aussi aux oreilles de Benjamin, et Abner alla reporter aux oreilles de David, à Hébron, ce qui paraissait bon aux yeux d'Israël et aux yeux de toute la maison de Benjamin.
20 and Abner comes to David, to Hebron, and twenty men [are] with him, and David makes a banquet for Abner and for the men who [are] with him.
Abner vint près de David, à Hébron, accompagné de vingt hommes; et David fit un festin à Abner et aux hommes qui l'accompagnaient.
21 And Abner says to David, “I arise, and go, and gather the whole of Israel to my lord the king, and they make a covenant with you, and you have reigned over all that your soul desires”; and David sends Abner away, and he goes in peace.
Et Abner dit à David: « Je vais me lever et partir pour rassembler tout Israël vers mon seigneur le roi; ils feront alliance avec toi et tu régneras sur tout ce que ton âme désire. » Et David congédia Abner, qui s'en alla en paix.
22 And behold, the servants of David, and Joab, have come from the troop, and have brought much spoil with them, and Abner is not with David in Hebron, for he has sent him away, and he goes in peace;
Mais voici que les serviteurs de David et Joab revenaient d'une excursion, ramenant avec eux un grand butin. — Abner n'était plus auprès de David à Hébron, car David l'avait congédié et il s'en était allé en paix. —
23 and Joab and all the host that [were] with him have come, and they declare to Joab, saying, “Abner son of Ner has come to the king, and he sends him away, and he goes in peace.”
Joab et toute la troupe qui était avec lui arrivèrent, et on fit ce rapport à Joab: « Abner, fils de Ner, est venu auprès du roi, qui l'a congédié, et il s'en est allé en paix. »
24 And Joab comes to the king and says, “What have you done? Behold, Abner has come to you! Why [is] this—you have sent him away, and he is really gone?
Joab se rendit chez le roi et dit: « Qu'as-tu fait? Voilà qu'Abner est venu vers toi: pourquoi l'as-tu congédié et laissé partir?
25 You have known Abner son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you are doing.”
Tu connais Abner, fils de Ner: c'est pour te tromper qu'il est venu, pour épier ta conduite, et savoir tout ce que tu fais. »
26 And Joab goes out from David, and sends messengers after Abner, and they bring him back from the well of Sirah, and David did not know.
Joab, ayant quitté David, envoya sur les traces d'Abner des messagers qui le ramenèrent depuis la citerne de Sira, sans que David en sût rien.
27 And Abner turns back to Hebron, and Joab turns him aside to the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and strikes him there in the fifth [rib]—and he dies—for the blood of his brother Asahel.
Quand Abner fut de retour à Hébron, Joab le tira à l'écart, dans l'intérieur de la porte, comme pour lui parler tranquillement, et là il le frappa au ventre; il mourut, à cause du sang d'Asaël, frère de Joab.
28 And David hears afterward and says, “My kingdom and I [are] acquitted by YHWH for all time, from the blood of Abner son of Ner;
David l'apprit ensuite, et il dit: « Je suis à jamais, moi et mon royaume, innocent, devant Yahweh, du sang d'Abner, fils de Ner.
29 it stays on the head of Joab, and on all the house of his father, and there is not cut off from the house of Joab one who has discharging, and leprous, and laying hold on a staff, and falling by a sword, and lacking bread.”
Que ce sang retombe sur la tête de Joab et sur toute la maison de son père! Qu'il y ait toujours dans la maison de Joab un homme qui souffre d'un flux ou de la lèpre, ou qui tienne le fuseau, ou qui tombe par l'épée, ou qui manque de pain. »
30 And Joab and his brother Abishai slew Abner because that he put their brother Asahel to death in Gibeon, in battle.
C'est ainsi que Joab et Abisaï, son frère, tuèrent Abner, parce qu'il avait donné la mort à leur frère Asaël, à Gabaon, dans la bataille.
31 And David says to Joab, and to all the people who [are] with him, “Tear your garments, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner”; and King David is going after the bier.
David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui: « Déchirez-vos vêtements, ceignez-vous de sacs et faites le deuil devant Abner. » Et le roi David marchait derrière la litière.
32 And they bury Abner in Hebron, and the king lifts up his voice, and weeps at the grave of Abner, and all the people weep;
On enterra Abner à Hébron. Le roi pleura à haute voix sur le tombeau d'Abner et tout le peuple pleura.
33 and the king laments for Abner and says, “Does Abner die as the death of a fool?
Le roi chanta un chant funèbre sur Abner, et dit: Abner devait-il mourir comme meurt un insensé?
34 Your hands not bound, And your feet not brought near to chains! You have fallen as one falling before sons of evil!” And all the people add to weep over him.
Tes mains ne furent pas liées et tes pieds ne furent pas jetés dans les chaînes! Tu es tombé comme on tombe devant des scélérats. Tout le peuple continua de se lamenter sur Abner;
35 And all the people come to cause David to eat bread while yet day, and David swears, saying, “Thus God does to me, and thus He adds, for—before the going in of the sun, I taste no bread or any other thing.”
et tout le peuple s'approcha de David pour lui faire prendre de la nourriture lorsqu'il était encore jour. Mais David fit ce serment: « Que Yahweh me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si je goûte du pain ou quoi que ce soit avant le coucher du soleil! »
36 And all the people have discerned [it], and it is good in their eyes, as all that the king has done is good in the eyes of all the people;
Tout le peuple le remarqua et le trouva bon, comme il trouvait bon tout ce que faisait le roi.
37 and all the people know, even all Israel, in that day, that it has not been from the king—to put Abner son of Ner to death.
Tout le peuple et tout Israël comprirent en ce jour que ce n'était point de par le roi qu'on avait fait mourir Abner, fils de Ner.
38 And the king says to his servants, “Do you not know that a prince and a great one has fallen this day in Israel?
Le roi dit à ses serviteurs: « Ne savez-vous pas qu'un chef, qu'un grand homme est tombé aujourd'hui en Israël?
39 And today I [am] tender, and an anointed king: and these men, sons of Zeruiah, [are] too hard for me; YHWH repays to the doer of the evil according to his evil.”
Pour moi, je suis doux, quoiqu'ayant reçu l'onction royale; et ces hommes, les fils de Sarvia, sont plus durs que moi. Que Yahweh rende à qui fait le mal selon le mal qu'il fait! »
