2 Samuel 24
1 And the anger of YHWH adds to burn against Israel, and [an adversary] moves David about them, saying, “Go, number Israel and Judah.”
La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma de nouveau contre Israël, et il poussa David contre eux, en disant: « Va, fais le compte d'Israël et de Juda. »
2 And the king says to Joab, head of the host that [is] with him, “Now go to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-Sheba, and inspect the people; then I have known the number of the people.”
Le roi dit à Joab, chef de l'armée, qui était avec lui: « Maintenant, va et viens dans toutes les tribus d'Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersheba, et compte le peuple, afin que je connaisse la somme du peuple. »
3 And Joab says to the king, “Indeed, your God YHWH adds to the people, as they are, one hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?”
Joab dit au roi: « Que Yahvé, ton Dieu, ajoute maintenant cent fois au peuple, quel que soit son nombre, et que les yeux de mon seigneur le roi le voient. Mais pourquoi mon seigneur le roi se réjouit-il de cette chose? »
4 And the word of the king is severe toward Joab, and against the heads of the force, and Joab goes out, and the heads of the force, [from] before the king to inspect the people, even Israel;
Néanmoins, la parole du roi l'emporta sur Joab et sur les chefs de l'armée. Joab et les chefs de l'armée sortirent de la présence du roi pour compter le peuple d'Israël.
5 and they pass over the Jordan, and encamp in Aroer, on the right of the city that [is] in the midst of the Brook of Gad, and to Jazer,
Ils passèrent le Jourdain et campèrent à Aroër, à droite de la ville qui est au milieu de la vallée de Gad, et jusqu'à Jazer;
6 and they come to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-Hodshi, and they come to Dan-Jaan, and around to Sidon,
puis ils vinrent en Galaad et au pays de Tahtim Hodshi; ils vinrent à Dan Jaan et contournèrent Sidon,
7 and they come to the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivite, and of the Canaanite, and go out to the south of Judah, to Beer-Sheba.
ils arrivèrent à la forteresse de Tyr et à toutes les villes des Héviens et des Cananéens, et ils sortirent au sud de Juda, à Beer Schéba.
8 And they go to and fro through all the land, and come in to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days,
Après avoir parcouru tout le pays, ils arrivèrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.
9 and Joab gives the account of the inspection of the people to the king, and Israel is eight hundred thousand men of valor, drawing sword, and the men of Judah five hundred thousand men.
Joab remit au roi le compte du peuple. Il y avait en Israël huit cent mille hommes vaillants tirant l'épée, et en Juda cinq cent mille hommes.
10 And the heart of David strikes him, after that he has numbered the people, and David says to YHWH, “I have greatly sinned in that which I have done, and now, O YHWH, please cause the iniquity of Your servant to pass away, for I have acted very foolishly.”
Le cœur de David le frappa après qu'il eut compté le peuple. David dit à Yahvé: « J'ai beaucoup péché par ce que j'ai fait. Mais maintenant, Yahvé, efface, je t'en prie, l'iniquité de ton serviteur, car j'ai fait une grande folie. »
11 And David rises in the morning, and the word of YHWH has been to Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying,
Lorsque David se leva le matin, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée au prophète Gad, le voyant de David, en ces termes:
12 “Go, and you have spoken to David, Thus said YHWH: I am lifting up three [choices] for you, choose one of them, and I do [it] to you.”
« Va dire à David: « Yahvé dit: Je te propose trois choses. Choisis l'une d'elles, que je te l'accorde »".
13 And Gad comes to David, and declares [it] to him, and says to him, “Does seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or are you fleeing before your adversary [for] three months—and he is pursuing you? Or is there pestilence [for] three days in your land? Now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.”
Gad se rendit auprès de David et lui dit: « Est-ce que sept années de famine t'arriveront dans ton pays? Ou bien fuiras-tu trois mois devant tes ennemis pendant qu'ils te poursuivent? Ou bien y aura-t-il trois jours de peste dans ton pays? Réponds maintenant, et considère quelle réponse je ferai à celui qui m'a envoyé. »
14 And David says to Gad, “I have great distress; please let us fall into the hand of YHWH, for His mercies [are] many, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”
David dit à Gad: « Je suis dans la détresse. Tombons maintenant dans la main de Yahvé, car sa miséricorde est grande. Que je ne tombe pas dans la main de l'homme. »
15 And YHWH gives a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the time appointed, and there dies of the people, from Dan even to Beer-Sheba, seventy thousand men,
Et l'Éternel envoya la peste sur Israël, depuis le matin jusqu'à l'heure fixée, et il mourut soixante-dix mille hommes du peuple, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersheba.
16 and the messenger puts forth his hand to Jerusalem to destroy it, and YHWH sighs concerning the calamity, and says to the messenger who is destroying among the people, “Enough, now, cease your hand”; and the messenger of YHWH was near the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
Lorsque l'ange étendit sa main vers Jérusalem pour la détruire, Yahvé se détourna du désastre et dit à l'ange qui détruisait le peuple: « C'est assez. Maintenant, retire ta main. » L'ange de Yahvé était près de l'aire de battage d'Arauna, le Jébusien.
17 And David speaks to YHWH when he sees the messenger who is striking among the people, and says, “Behold, I have sinned, indeed, I have done perversely; and these—the flock—what have they done? Please let Your hand be on me and on the house of my father.”
David s'adressa à Yahvé lorsqu'il vit l'ange qui frappait le peuple, et il dit: « Voici, j'ai péché et j'ai agi avec perversité; mais ces brebis, qu'ont-elles fait? Je t'en prie, que ta main soit contre moi et contre la maison de mon père. »
18 And Gad comes to David on that day and says to him, “Go up, raise an altar to YHWH in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite”;
Gad vint ce jour-là auprès de David et lui dit: « Monte, bâtis un autel à Yahvé sur l'aire d'Arauna, le Jébusien. »
19 and David goes up, according to the word of Gad, as YHWH commanded.
David monta, selon la parole de Gad, comme l'avait ordonné l'Éternel.
20 And Araunah looks, and sees the king and his servants passing over to him, and Araunah goes out and bows himself to the king [with] his face to the earth.
Arauna regarda dehors et vit le roi et ses serviteurs qui venaient vers lui. Alors Arauna sortit et se prosterna devant le roi, le visage contre terre.
21 And Araunah says, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David says, “To buy the threshing-floor from you, to build an altar to YHWH, and the plague is restrained from the people.”
Aravna dit: « Pourquoi le roi mon seigneur est-il venu vers son serviteur? » David dit: « Pour acheter ton aire, pour construire un autel à Yahvé, afin que la peste cesse d'affliger le peuple. »
22 And Araunah says to David, “Let my lord the king take [it] and cause that which is good in his eyes to ascend; see, [here are] the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood”;
Arauna dit à David: « Que le roi mon seigneur prenne et offre ce qui lui semble bon. Voici le bétail pour l'holocauste, les traîneaux à battre et les jougs des bœufs pour le bois.
23 Araunah has given the whole [as] a king to a king; and Araunah says to the king, “Your God YHWH accepts you.”
Tout cela, ô roi, Arauna le donne au roi. » Aravna dit au roi: « Que Yahvé ton Dieu t'accueille. »
24 And the king says to Araunah, “No, for I surely buy from you for a price, and I do not cause burnt-offerings to ascend to my God YHWH for nothing”; and David buys the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver,
Le roi dit à Arauna: « Non, mais je veux bien te l'acheter à prix d'or. Je ne veux pas offrir à Yahvé mon Dieu des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien. » David acheta donc l'aire et les bœufs pour cinquante sicles d'argent.
25 and David builds an altar to YHWH there, and causes burnt-offerings and peace-offerings to ascend, and YHWH accepts the plea for the land, and the plague is restrained from Israel.
David bâtit là un autel à Yahvé, et il offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices de prospérité. Il implora Yahvé pour le pays, et la plaie fut retirée d'Israël.
