2 Samuel 23

1 And these [are] the last words of David: “A declaration of David son of Jesse, And a declaration of the man raised up—Concerning the anointed of the God of Jacob, And the sweetness of the songs of Israel:

এগুলিই হল দাউদের শেষ সময়ে বলা কথা: “যিশয়ের ছেলে দাউদের অনুপ্রাণিত উক্তি, পরাৎপর দ্বারা উন্নত ব্যক্তির এই উক্তি, যাকোবের ঈশ্বর যাঁকে অভিষিক্ত করেছেন, ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে যিনি মধুর গায়ক:

2 The Spirit of YHWH has spoken by me, And His word [is] on my tongue.

“সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা আমার মাধ্যমে বলেছেন; তাঁর বাক্য আমার কণ্ঠে ছিল।

3 He said—the God of Israel—to me, He spoke—the Rock of Israel: He who is ruling over man [is] righteous, He is ruling in the fear of God.

ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর বলেছেন, ইস্রায়েলের পাষাণ-পাথর আমাকে বলেছেন: ‘ন্যায়পরায়ণতায় যখন কেউ প্রজাদের উপর রাজত্ব করে, যখন সে ঈশ্বর ভয়ে শাসন করে,

4 And he rises as the light of morning, A morning sun [with] no clouds! By the shining, by the rain, Tender grass of the earth!

সে সূর্যোদয়ে প্রভাতি আলোর মতো মেঘশূন্য সকালে যা দেখা যায়, বৃষ্টির পরে পাওয়া উজ্জ্বলতার মতো যা দিয়ে মাটিতে ঘাস জন্মায়।’

5 For though my house [is] not so with God; So He made a perpetual covenant with me, Arranged in all things, and kept; For all my salvation, and all desire, For He has not caused [it] to spring up.

“আমার বংশ যদি ঈশ্বরের কাছে যথাযথ না হত, অবশ্যই তিনি আমার সঙ্গে এক চিরস্থায়ী নিয়ম স্থির করতেন না, যা সবদিক থেকে সুব্যবস্থিত ও সুরক্ষিত; অবশ্যই আমার পরিত্রাণ তিনি সার্থক করতেন না আর আমার প্রত্যেকটি মনোবাঞ্ছা পূরণ করতেন না।

6 As for the worthless—All of them [are] driven away as a thorn, For they are not taken away by hand;

কিন্তু দুষ্ট লোকেরা সেইসব কাঁটার মতো ছুঁড়ে ফেলার যোগ্য, যেগুলি হাত দিয়ে সংগ্রহ করা হয় না।

7 And the man who comes against them Is filled with iron and the staff of a spear, And they are utterly burned with fire In the cessation.”

যে কেউ কাঁটা স্পর্শ করে সে লোহার এক যন্ত্র বা এক বর্শাফলক ব্যবহার করে; সেগুলি যেখানে পড়ে থাকে সেখানেই আগুনে ভস্মীভূত হয়।”

8 These [are] the names of the mighty ones whom David has: sitting in the seat [is] the Tachmonite, head of the captains—he [is] Adino, who hardened himself against eight hundred—wounded at one time.

দাউদের বলবান যোদ্ধাদের নাম এইরকম: তখমোনীয় যোশেব-বশেবৎ, তিনি তিনজনের মধ্যে প্রধান ছিলেন; তিনি 800 জনের বিরুদ্ধে তাঁর বর্শা উত্তোলন করলেন, ও একবারেই তাদের মেরে ফেলেছিলেন।

9 And after him [is] Eleazar son of Dodo, son of Ahohi, of the three mighty men with David; in their exposing themselves among the Philistines—they have been gathered there to battle, and the men of Israel go up—

তাঁর পরবর্তীজন ছিলেন অহোহীয় দোদয়ের ছেলে ইলিয়াসর। ফিলিস্তিনীরা যখন পস-দম্মীমে যুদ্ধ করার জন্য সমবেত হল, তখন যারা তাদের বিদ্রুপ করার জন্য দাউদের কাছে ছিলেন, সেই তিনজন বলবান যোদ্ধার মধ্যে তিনিও একজন। পরে ইস্রায়েলীরা পিছিয়ে এসেছিল,

10 he has arisen, and strikes among the Philistines until his hand has been weary, and his hand cleaves to the sword, and YHWH works a great salvation on that day, and the people turn back after him only to strip off.

কিন্তু ইলীয়াসর ততক্ষণ পর্যন্ত মাটি কামড়ে দাঁড়িয়ে থেকে ফিলিস্তিনীদের যন্ত্রণা করে গেলেন, যতক্ষণ না তাঁর হাত অবশ হয়ে তরোয়ালে জমে গেল। সেদিন সদাপ্রভু মহাবিজয় এনে দিলেন। সৈন্যসামন্তরা ইলিয়াসরের কাছে ফিরে গেল, কিন্তু শুধু মৃতদেহটির সাজপোশাক খুলে ফেলার জন্যই।

11 And after him [is] Shammah son of Agee the Hararite, and the Philistines are gathered into a company, and there is a portion of the field full of lentils there, and the people have fled from the presence of the Philistines,

তাঁর পরবর্তীজন ছিলেন হরারীয় আগির ছেলে শম্ম। মসুর ক্ষেতের কাছে একটি স্থানে যখন ফিলিস্তিনীরা সমবেত হল, তখন ইস্রায়েলী সৈন্যসামন্তরা তাদের কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে গেল।

12 and he stations himself in the midst of the portion, and delivers it, and strikes the Philistines, and YHWH works a great salvation.

কিন্তু শম্ম ক্ষেতের মাঝখানে মাটি কামড়ে দাঁড়িয়ে গেলেন। তিনি সেটি রক্ষা করলেন ও ফিলিস্তিনীদের আঘাত করে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন, এবং সদাপ্রভু এক মহাবিজয় এনে দিলেন।

13 And three of the thirty heads go down and come to the harvest, to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the company of the Philistines are encamping in the Valley of Rephaim,

ফসল কাটার সময়, ত্রিশজন প্রধান যোদ্ধাদের মধ্যে তিনজন অদুল্লম গুহায় দাউদের কাছে এলেন, অন্যদিকে একদল ফিলিস্তিনী রফায়ীম উপত্যকায় শিবির করে বসেছিল।

14 and David [is] then in a fortress, and the station of the Philistines [is] then in Beth-Lehem,

সেই সময় দাউদ দুর্গের মধ্যেই ছিলেন, এবং দুর্গ রক্ষার জন্য মোতায়েন ফিলিস্তিনী সৈন্যদল বেথলেহেমে অবস্থান করছিল।

15 and David longs and says, “Who gives me a drink of the water of the well of Beth-Lehem, which [is] by the gate?”

দাউদ তৃষ্ণায় কাতর হয়ে বলে উঠেছিলেন, “হায়, কেউ যদি আমার জন্য বেথলেহেমের ফটকের কাছে অবস্থিত সেই কুয়ো থেকে একটু জল এনে দিত!”

16 And the three mighty ones cleave through the camp of the Philistines, and draw water out of the well of Beth-Lehem, which [is] by the gate, and take [it] up, and bring [it] to David; and he was not willing to drink it, and pours it out to YHWH,

অতএব সেই তিনজন বলবান যোদ্ধা ফিলিস্তিনী সৈন্যশিবির পার করে বেথলেহেমের সিংহদুয়ারের কাছে অবস্থিত কুয়ো থেকে জল তুলে দাউদের কাছে নিয়ে এলেন। কিন্তু তিনি তা পান করতে চাননি; তা না করে, তিনি সেই জল সদাপ্রভুর সামনে ঢেলে দিলেন।

17 and says, “Far be it from me, O YHWH, to do this; is it the blood of the men who are going with their lives?” And he was not willing to drink it; the three mighty ones did these [things].

“হে সদাপ্রভু, এমন কাজ যেন আমি না করি!” তিনি বললেন। “এ কি সেই লোকদের রক্ত নয়, যারা তাদের প্রাণ বিপন্ন করে গেল?” দাউদ তাই সেই জলপান করেননি। সেই তিনজন বলবান যোদ্ধার এই সেই উজ্জ্বল কীর্তি।

18 And Abishai brother of Joab, son of Zeruiah, he [is] head of three, and he is lifting up his spear against three hundred—wounded, and he has a name among three.

সরূয়ার ছেলে, যোয়াবের ভাই অবীশয় সেই তিনজনের মধ্যে প্রধান ছিলেন। তিনি তিনশো জনের বিরুদ্ধে বর্শা তুলেছিলেন ও তাদের হত্যা করলেন, এবং এভাবেই তিনিও সেই তিনজনের মতো বিখ্যাত হয়ে গেলেন।

19 Is he not the honored of the three? And he becomes their head; and he has not come to the [first] three.

তাঁকে কি সেই তিনজনের তুলনায় বেশি সম্মান দেওয়া হয়নি? তিনিই তাদের সেনাপতি হলেন, যদিও তাঁকে তাদের মধ্যে ধরা হত না।

20 And Benaiah son of Jehoiada (son of a man of valor, great in deeds from Kabzeel), has struck two lion-like men of Moab, and he has gone down and struck the lion in the midst of the pit in a day of snow.

কব্‌সীলের এক বীর যোদ্ধা, তথা যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায় বিশাল সব উজ্জ্বল কীর্তি স্থাপন করলেন। তিনি মোয়াবের অত্যন্ত বলশালী দুই যোদ্ধাকে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। এছাড়াও একদিন যখন খুব তুষারপাত হচ্ছিল, তখন তিনি একটি গর্তের মধ্যে নেমে গিয়ে একটি সিংহকে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন।

21 And he has struck the Egyptian man, a man of appearance, and a spear [is] in the hand of the Egyptian, and he goes down to him with a rod, and takes the spear violently away out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slays him with his own spear.

এক বিশালদেহী মিশরীয়কেও তিনি আঘাত করে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। যদিও সেই মিশরীয়র হাতে ছিল একটি বর্শা, বনায় একটি মুগুর নিয়ে তার বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন। তিনি সেই মিশরীয়র হাত থেকে বর্শাটি কেড়ে নিয়ে সেটি দিয়েই তাকে হত্যা করলেন।

22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada has done these [things], and has a name among the three mighty ones.

যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়ের উজ্জ্বল সব কীর্তি এরকমই ছিল; তিনিও সেই তিনজন বলবান যোদ্ধার মতোই বিখ্যাত হয়ে গেলেন।

23 He is honored more than the thirty, but he did not come to the three; and David sets him over his guard.

সেই ত্রিশজনের মধ্যে যে কোনো একজনের তুলনায় তাঁকেই বেশি সম্মান দেওয়া হত, কিন্তু তিনি সেই তিনজনের মধ্যে গণ্য হননি। আর দাউদ তাঁকে তাঁর দেহরক্ষীদের তত্ত্বাবধায়ক করে দিলেন।

24 Asahel brother of Joab [is] of the thirty; Elhanan son of Dodo of Beth-Lehem,

সেই ত্রিশজনের মধ্যে ছিলেন: যোয়াবের ভাই অসাহেল, বেথলেহেমের অধিবাসী দোদয়ের ছেলে ইলহানন,

25 Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,

হরোদীয় শম্ম, হরোদীয় ইলীকা,

26 Helez the Paltite, Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

পল্‌টীয় হেলস, তকোয়ের অধিবাসী ইক্কেশের ছেলে ঈরা,

27 Abiezer the Annethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

অনাথোতের অধিবাসী অবীয়েষর, হূশাতীয় সিব্বখয়,

28 Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

অহোহীয় সল্‌মন, নটোফাতীয় মহরয়,

29 Heleb son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai son of Ribai from Gibeah of the sons of Benjamin,

নটোফাতীয় বানার ছেলে হেলদ, বিন্যামীন প্রদেশে অবস্থিত গিবিয়ার অধিবাসী রীবয়ের ছেলে ইত্তয়,

30 Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,

পিরিয়াথোনীয় বনায়, গাশ গিরিখাতের অধিবাসী হিদ্দয়,

31 Abi-Albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

অর্বতীয় অবি-য়লবোন, বাহরূমীয় অস্‌মাবৎ,

32 Eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,

শালবোনীয় ইলিয়হবা, যাশেনের ছেলেরা, যোনাথন,

33 Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam son of Sharar the Hararite,

যিনি ছিলেন হরারীয় শম্মর ছেলে, হরারীয় সাররের ছেলে অহীয়াম,

34 Eliphelet son of Ahasbai, son of the Maachathite, Eliam son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,

মাখাতীয় অহসবায়ের ছেলে ইলীফেলট, গীলোনীয় অহীথোফলের ছেলে ইলিয়াম,

35 Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,

কর্মিলীয় হিষ্রয়, অর্বীয় পারয়,

36 Igal son of Nathan from Zobah, Bani the Gadite,

সোবার অধিবাসী নাথনের ছেলে যিগাল, হগ্রির ছেলে গাদীয় বানী,

37 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, bearer of the weapons of Joab son of Zeruiah,

অম্মোনীয় সেলক, সরূয়ার ছেলে যোয়াবের অস্ত্র বহনকারী বেরোতীয় নহরয়,

38 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,

যিত্রীয় ঈরা, যিত্রীয় গারেব

39 Uriah the Hittite: thirty-seven in all.

এবং হিত্তীয় ঊরিয়। সবসুদ্ধ মোট সাঁইত্রিশজন ছিল।
