2 Samuel 17
1 And Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Please let me choose twelve thousand men, and I arise and pursue after David tonight,
Och Ahitofel sade till Absalom: »Låt mig utvälja tolv tusen män, så vill jag bryta upp och förfölja David i natt.
2 and come on him, and he [will be] weary and feeble-handed, and I have caused him to tremble, and all the people who [are] with him have fled, and I have struck the king by himself,
Då kan jag komma över honom och förskräcka honom, medan han är utmattad och modlös, och allt hans folk skall då taga till flykten; sedan kan jag döda konungen, när han står där övergiven.
3 and I bring back all the people to you—as the turning back of the whole [except] the man whom you are seeking—[then] all the people are [at] peace.”
Därefter skall jag föra allt folket tillbaka till dig. Ty om det så går den man du söker, så är detta som om alla vände tillbaka; allt folket får då frid.»
4 And the word is right in the eyes of Absalom, and in the eyes of all [the] elderly of Israel.
Detta behagade Absalom och alla de äldste i Israel.
5 And Absalom says, “Now call for Hushai the Archite also, and we hear what [is] in his mouth—even he.”
Likväl sade Absalom: »Kalla ock arkiten Husai hit, så att vi också få höra vad han har att säga.
6 And Hushai comes to Absalom, and Absalom speaks to him, saying, “According to this word Ahithophel has spoken; do we do his word? If not, you—speak.”
När då Husai kom in till Absalom, sade Absalom till honom: »Så och så har Ahitofel talat. »Skola vi göra såsom han har sagt? Varom icke, så tala du.»
7 And Hushai says to Absalom, “The counsel that Ahithophel has counseled [is] not good at this time.”
Husai svarade Absalom: Det råd som Ahitofel denna gång har givit är icke gott.»
8 And Hushai says, “You have known your father and his men, that they [are] heroes, and they are bitter in soul as a bereaved bear in a field, and your father [is] a man of war, and does not lodge with the people;
Och Husai sade ytterligare: »Du känner din fader och hans män, och vet att de äro hjältar och bistra såsom en björninna från vilken man har tagit ungarna ute på marken. Och din fader är ju en krigsman som icke vilar med sitt folk under natten.
9 behold, now, he is hidden in one of the pits, or in one of the places, and it has been at the falling among them at the commencement, that the hearer has heard and said, There has been a slaughter among the people who [are] after Absalom;
Nu har han säkerligen gömt sig i någon håla eller på något annat ställe. Om nu redan i början några av folket här fölle, så skulle var och en som finge höra talas därom säga att det folk som följer Absalom har lidit ett nederlag;
10 and he also, the son of valor, whose heart [is] as the heart of the lion, utterly melts, for all Israel knows that your father is a hero, and those with him [are] sons of valor.
och då skulle till och med den tappraste, den som hade mod såsom ett lejon, bliva högeligen förfärad; ty hela Israel vet att din fader är en hjälte, och att de som följa honom äro tappra män.
11 So that I have counseled: let all Israel be diligently gathered to you, from Dan even to Beer-Sheba, as the sand that [is] by the sea for multitude, and you yourself are going in the midst;
Därför är nu mitt råd: Låt hela Israel från Dan ända till Beer-Seba församla sig till dig, så talrikt som sanden vid havet; och själv må du draga med i striden.
12 and we have come to him in one of the places where he is found, and we [are] on him as the dew falls on the ground, and there has not been left of him and of all the men who [are] with him even one.
När vi så drabba ihop med honom, varhelst han må påträffas, skola vi slå ned på honom, såsom daggen faller över marken; och då skall intet bliva kvar av honom och alla de män som äro med honom
13 And if he is gathered to a city, then they have caused all Israel to carry ropes to that city, and we have drawn it to the brook until there has not even been found a stone there.”
Ja, om han också droge sig tillbaka in i någon stad, så skulle hela Israel kasta linor omkring den staden, och vi skulle draga den ned i dalen, till dess att icke minsta sten vore att finna därav.
14 And Absalom says—and all the men of Israel, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite [is] better than the counsel of Ahithophel”; and YHWH willed to make void the good counsel of Ahithophel for the sake of YHWH’s bringing the calamity to Absalom.
Då sade Absalom och alla Israels män: »Arkiten Husais råd är bättre än Ahitofels råd.» HERREN hade nämligen skickat det så, att Ahitofels goda råd gjordes om intet, för att HERREN skulle låta olycka komma över Absalom.
15 And Hushai says to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, “Thus and thus Ahithophel has counseled Absalom and the elderly of Israel, and thus and thus I have counseled;
Och Husai sade till prästerna Sadok och Ebjatar: »Det och det rådet har Ahitofel givit Absalom och de äldste i Israel, men jag har givit det och det rådet.
16 and now, send quickly, and declare [it] to David, saying, Do not lodge in the plains of the wilderness tonight, and also, certainly pass over, lest there is a swallowing up of the king and of all the people who are with him.”
Så sänden nu med hast bud och låten säga David: 'Stanna icke över natten vid färjställena i öknen, utan gå hellre över, för att icke konungen och allt hans folk må drabbas av fördärv.'»
17 And Jonathan and Ahimaaz are standing at En-Rogel, and the maidservant has gone and declared [it] to them—and they go and have declared [it] to King David—for they are not able to be seen to go into the city.
Nu hade Jonatan och Ahimaas sitt tillhåll vid Rogelskällan, och en tjänstekvinna gick dit med budskap; sedan plägade de själva gå med budskapet till konung David. Ty de tordes icke gå in i staden och visa sig där.
18 And a youth sees them, and declares [it] to Absalom; and both of them go on quickly, and come to the house of a man in Bahurim, and he has a well in his court, and they go down there,
Men en gosse fick se dem och berättade det för Absalom. Då gingo båda med hast sin väg och kommo in i en mans hus i Bahurim, som på sin gård hade en brunn; i den stego de ned.
19 and the woman takes and spreads the covering over the face of the well, and spreads the ground grain on it, and the thing has not been known.
Och hans hustru tog ett skynke och bredde ut det över brunnshålet och strödde gryn därpå, så att man icke kunde märka något.
20 And the servants of Absalom come to the woman at the house, and say, “Where [are] Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” And the woman says to them, “They passed over the brook of water”; and they seek, and have not found, and return to Jerusalem.
Då nu Absaloms tjänare kommo in i huset till hustrun och frågade var Ahimaas och Jonatan voro, svarade hon dem: »De gingo över bäcken där.» Då sökte de, men utan att finna, och vände så tillbaka till Jerusalem.
21 And it comes to pass, after their going on, that they come up out of the well, and go and declare [it] to King David, and say to David, “Rise, and pass over the waters quickly, for thus has Ahithophel counseled against you.”
Men sedan de hade gått sin väg, stego de andra upp ur brunnen och gingo med sitt budskap till konung David; de sade till David: »Bryten upp och gån med hast över vattnet, ty det och det rådet har Ahitofel givit, till eder ofärd.»
22 And David rises, and all the people who [are] with him, and they pass over the Jordan, until the morning light, until not one has been lacking who has not passed over the Jordan.
Då bröt David upp med allt det folk han hade hos sig, och de gingo över Jordan; och om morgonen, när det blev dager, saknades ingen enda, utan alla hade kommit över Jordan.
23 And Ahithophel has seen that his counsel was not done, and he saddles the donkey, and rises and goes to his house, to his city, and gives charge to his household, and strangles himself, and dies, and he is buried in the burying-place of his father.
Men när Ahitofel såg att man icke följde hans råd, sadlade han sin åsna och stod upp och for hem till sin stad, och sedan han hade beställt om sitt hus, hängde han sig. Och när han var död, blev han begraven i sin faders grav.
24 And David came to Mahanaim, and Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him;
Så hade nu David kommit till Mahanaim, när Absalom med alla Israels män gick över Jordan.
25 and Absalom has set Amasa over the host instead of Joab, and Amasa [is] a man’s son whose name is Ithra the Israeli who has gone in to Abigail, daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, mother of Joab;
Men Absalom hade satt Amasa i Joabs ställe över hären. Och Amasa var son till en man vid namn Jitra, en israelit, som hade gått in till Abigal, Nahas' dotter och Serujas, Joabs moders, syster.
26 and Israel encamps with Absalom [in] the land of Gilead.
Och Israel och Absalom lägrade sig i Gileads land.
27 And it comes to pass at the coming in of David to Mahanaim, that Shobi son of Nahash, from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and Machir son of Ammiel, from Behold-Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite, from Rogelim,
Men när David kom till Mahanaim, hade Sobi, Nahas' son, från Rabba i Ammons barns land, och Makir, Ammiels son, från Lo-Debar, och Barsillai, en gileadit från Rogelim,
28 [have brought] bed, and basin, and earthen vessel, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and roasted [grain], and beans, and lentiles, and roasted [pulse],
låtit föra dit sängar, skålar, lerkärl, så ock vete, korn, mjöl och rostade ax, ävensom bönor, linsärter och annat rostat,
29 and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of cows; they have brought [these] near for David, and for the people who [are] with him to eat, for they said, “Your people [are] hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.”
därjämte honung, gräddmjölk, får och nötostar till mat åt David och hans folk; ty de tänkte: »Folket är hungrigt, trött och törstigt i öknen.
