1 But there also came false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you, who will stealthily bring in destructive sects, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing quick destruction to themselves,
apara. m puurvvakaale yathaa lokaanaa. m madhye mithyaabhavi. syadvaadina upaati. s.than tathaa yu. smaaka. m madhye. api mithyaa"sik. sakaa upasthaasyanti, te sve. saa. m kretaara. m prabhum ana"ngiik. rtya satvara. m vinaa"sa. m sve. su varttayanti vinaa"sakavaidharmmya. m gupta. m yu. smanmadhyam aane. syanti|
2 and many will follow out their destructive ways, because of whom the way of the truth will be spoken of [as] evil,
tato. aneke. su te. saa. m vinaa"sakamaarga. m gate. su tebhya. h satyamaargasya nindaa sambhavi. syati|
3 and in covetousness, with forged words, they will make merchandise of you, whose judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
apara nca te lobhaat kaapa. tyavaakyai ryu. smatto laabha. m kari. syante kintu te. saa. m puraatanada. n.daaj naa na vilambate te. saa. m vinaa"sa"sca na nidraati|
4 For if God did not spare messengers having sinned, but having cast [them] down to Tartarus with chains of deepest gloom, delivered [them], having been reserved to judgment, (Tartaroō )

5 and did not spare the old world, but kept the eighth person, Noah, a preacher of righteousness, having brought a flood on the world of the impious,
puraatana. m sa. msaaramapi na k. samitvaa ta. m du. s.taanaa. m sa. msaara. m jalaaplaavanena majjayitvaa saptajanai. h sahita. m dharmmapracaaraka. m noha. m rak. sitavaan|
6 and having turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes, condemned with an overthrow, having set [them as] an example to those about to be impious,
sidomam amoraa cetinaamake nagare bhavi. syataa. m du. s.taanaa. m d. r.s. taanta. m vidhaaya bhasmiik. rtya vinaa"sena da. n.ditavaan;
7 and He rescued righteous Lot, worn down by the conduct of the lawless in licentiousness,
kintu tai. h kutsitavyabhicaaribhi rdu. s.taatmabhi. h kli. s.ta. m dhaarmmika. m lo. ta. m rak. sitavaan|
8 for the righteous [man] dwelling among them was tormented in [his] righteous soul, day by day, in seeing and hearing unlawful works—
sa dhaarmmiko janaste. saa. m madhye nivasan sviiyad. r.s. ti"srotragocarebhyaste. saam adharmmaacaarebhya. h svakiiyadhaarmmikamanasi dine dine taptavaan|
9 the LORD has known to rescue [the] pious out of temptation, and to keep [the] unrighteous being punished to [the] day of judgment,
prabhu rbhaktaan pariik. saad uddharttu. m vicaaradina nca yaavad da. n.dyaamaanaan adhaarmmikaan roddhu. m paarayati,
10 and chiefly those following after the flesh in lust [and] defilement, and despising lordship. Bold, self-pleased, they are not afraid to speak evil of glorious ones,
vi"se. sato ye. amedhyaabhilaa. saat "saariirikasukham anugacchanti kart. rtvapadaani caavajaananti taaneva (roddhu. m paarayati|) te du. hsaahasina. h pragalbhaa"sca|
11 whereas messengers, being greater in strength and power, do not bear a slanderous judgment against them before the LORD;
apara. m balagauravaabhyaa. m "sre. s.thaa divyaduutaa. h prabho. h sannidhau ye. saa. m vaipariityena nindaasuucaka. m vicaara. m na kurvvanti te. saam uccapadasthaanaa. m nindanaad ime na bhiitaa. h|
12 and these, as irrational natural beasts, made to be caught and destroyed—in what things they are ignorant of, slandering—in their destruction will be destroyed;
kintu ye buddhihiinaa. h prak. rtaa jantavo dharttavyataayai vinaa"syataayai ca jaayante tatsad. r"saa ime yanna budhyante tat nindanta. h svakiiyavinaa"syatayaa vina. mk. syanti sviiyaadharmmasya phala. m praapsyanti ca|
13 doing unjustly, [they will receive] a reward of unrighteousness, esteeming pleasure in the day, [and] luxury—[they are] spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceits, feasting with you,
te divaa prak. r.s. tabhojana. m sukha. m manyante nijachalai. h sukhabhogina. h santo yu. smaabhi. h saarddha. m bhojana. m kurvvanta. h kala"nkino do. si. na"sca bhavanti|
14 having eyes full of adultery, and unable to cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart exercised in covetousnesses, children of a curse,
te. saa. m locanaani paradaaraakaa"nk. sii. ni paape caa"sraantaani te ca ncalaani manaa. msi mohayanti lobhe tatparamanasa. h santi ca|
15 having forsaken a right way, they went astray, having followed in the way of Balaam the [son] of Bosor, who loved a reward of unrighteousness,
te "saapagrastaa va. m"saa. h saralamaarga. m vihaaya biyoraputrasya biliyamasya vipathena vrajanto bhraantaa abhavan| sa biliyamo. apyadharmmaat praapye paarito. sike. apriiyata,
16 and had a rebuke of his own iniquity—a mute donkey, having spoken in man’s voice, forbid the madness of the prophet.
kintu nijaaparaadhaad bhartsanaam alabhata yato vacana"saktihiina. m vaahana. m maanu. sikagiram uccaaryya bhavi. syadvaadina unmattataam abaadhata|
17 These are wells without water, and clouds driven by a storm, to whom the deepest gloom of darkness has been kept throughout the age; ()
ime nirjalaani prasrava. naani praca. n.davaayunaa caalitaa meghaa"sca te. saa. m k. rte nityasthaayii ghorataraandhakaara. h sa ncito. asti| ()
18 for speaking swollen words of vanity, they entice in desires of the flesh—licentiousness, those who had truly escaped from those conducting themselves in error,
ye ca janaa bhraantyaacaariga. naat k. rcchre. noddh. rtaastaan ime. aparimitadarpakathaa bhaa. samaa. naa. h "saariirikasukhaabhilaa. sai. h kaamakrii. daabhi"sca mohayanti|
19 promising liberty to them, themselves being servants of corruption, for by whom anyone has been overcome, he has been brought to servitude to this one also;
tebhya. h svaadhiinataa. m pratij naaya svaya. m vinaa"syataayaa daasaa bhavanti, yata. h, yo yenaiva paraajigye sa jaatastasya ki"nkara. h|
20 for if having escaped from the defilements of the world, in the acknowledging of the LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, and again being entangled by these things, they have been overcome, the last things have become worse to them than the first,

21 for it were better to them not to have acknowledged the way of righteousness, than having acknowledged [it], to turn back from the holy command delivered to them,
te. saa. m pak. se dharmmapathasya j naanaapraapti rvara. m na ca nirddi. s.taat pavitravidhimaargaat j naanapraaptaanaa. m paraavarttana. m|
22 and that of the true proverb has happened to them: “A dog turned back on his own vomit,” and, “A sow having bathed herself—to rolling in mire.”
kintu yeya. m satyaa d. r.s. taantakathaa saiva te. su phalitavatii, yathaa, kukkura. h sviiyavaantaaya vyaavarttate puna. h puna. h| lu. thitu. m karddame tadvat k. saalita"scaiva "suukara. h||
