2 Kings 4

1 And a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets has cried to Elisha, saying, “Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you have known that your servant was fearing YHWH, and the lender has come to take my two children to himself for servants.”

Et une femme des fils des prophètes invoqua le secours d'Elisée, disant: Mon mari, ton serviteur, est mort, et tu sais que ton serviteur avait la crainte de Dieu; or, son créancier est venu réclamer pour lui mes deux fils, et ils seront ses esclaves.

2 And Elisha says to her, “What do I do for you? Declare to me, what do you have in the house?” And she says, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a pot of oil.”

Elisée répondit: Que ferai-je pour toi? Qu'as-tu en ta maison? Elle reprit: Ta servante n'a rien dans sa maison, sinon l'huile dont je dois m'oindre.

3 And he says, “Go, ask [for] vessels for yourself from outside, from all your neighbors—empty vessels—let [them] not be few;

Et il lui dit: Va, demande à tous tes voisins des vases vides, et ne te contente pas d'un petit nombre.

4 and you have entered, and have shut the door on you, and on your sons, and have poured it into all these vessels, and the full ones you remove.”

Puis, tu rentreras; tu fermeras la porte sur toi et sur tes fils; tu verseras ton huile dans ces vases; et à mesure que tu les auras remplis, tu les enlèveras.

5 And she goes from him, and shuts the door on her, and on her sons; they are bringing [them] near to her, and she is pouring [it] out,

Elle s'éloigna d'Elisée; et ferma sa porte sur elle et sur ses fils: ceux-ci lui apportèrent les vases, elle y versa l'huile jusqu'à ce qu'ils en fussent pleins.

6 and it comes to pass, at the filling of the vessels, that she says to her son, “Bring another vessel near to me,” and he says to her, “There is not another vessel”; and the oil stays.

Et elle dit à ses fils: Approchez encore un vase. Il n'y en a plus, dirent-ils. Et l'huile cessa de couler.

7 And she comes and declares [it] to the man of God, and he says, “Go, sell the oil, and repay your loan; and you [and] your sons live off the rest.”

Alors elle alla trouver l'homme de Dieu, et lui raconta ce qui venait d'arriver. Elisée lui dit: Pars, et donne de l'huile en paiement; tu acquitteras ainsi ta dette; ensuite, toi et tes deux fils vous vivrez du reste de l'huile.

8 And the day comes that Elisha passes over to Shunem, and there [is] a great woman, and she lays hold on him to eat bread, and it comes to pass, at the time of his passing over, he turns aside there to eat bread,

Un autre jour, Elisée traversa Sunam; il y avait là une femme riche qui le contraignit de manger de son pain; plus tard, toutes les fois qu'il entrait en cette ville après une longue marche, il allait chez elle, et il y mangeait.

9 and she says to her husband, “Now behold, I have known that he is a holy man of God, passing over by us continually;

Et la femme dit à son mari: Je vois bien que ce saint homme qui vient toujours chez nous est un homme de Dieu.

10 please let us make a little upper chamber of the wall, and we set for him there a bed, and a table, and a high seat, and a lampstand; and it has been, in his coming to us, he turns aside there.”

Préparons pour lui une chambre haute, il ne la lui faut pas bien grande; mettons-y un lit, une table, une chaise, une lampe, et il y couchera quand il viendra chez nous.

11 And the day comes that he comes in there, and turns aside to the upper chamber, and lies there,

Or, un jour, il entra dans cette maison, monta à sa chambre, et se mit au lit.

12 and he says to his young man Gehazi, “Call for this Shunammite”; and he calls for her, and she stands before him.

Puis, il dit à Giézi, son serviteur: Appelle-moi cette Sunamite. Giézi l'appela, et elle se tint devant Elisée,

13 And he says to him, “Now say to her, Behold, you have troubled yourself concerning us with all this trouble; what can [I] do for you? Is it to speak for you to the king, or to the head of the host?” And she says, “I am dwelling in the midst of my people.”

Qui dit à son serviteur, dis-lui: Voilà que pour nous tu t'es donné tous ces soins: que devons-nous faire en ta faveur? As-tu quelque chose à demander au roi ou à l'un des chefs de l'armée? Elle répondit: Je suis dans ma maison, au milieu de mon peuple.

14 And he says, “And what can [I] do for her?” And Gehazi says, “Truly she has no son, and her husband [is] aged.”

Or, Elisée dit à Giézi: Que faut-il faire pour elle? Giézi, son serviteur, répondit: Elle n'a point de fils, et son mari est vieux.

15 And he says, “Call for her”; and he calls for her, and she stands at the opening,

Et il la rappela; mais elle était restée près de la porte.

16 and he says, “At this season, according to the time of life, you are embracing a son”; and she says, “No, my lord, O man of God, do not lie to your maidservant.”

Elisée lui dit: A pareille époque l'an prochain, en cette même saison, tu vivras et tu embrasseras un fils. Et elle s'écria: Non, seigneur, ne trompe point ta servante.

17 And the woman conceives and bears a son, at this season, according to the time of life that Elisha spoke of to her.

En effet, la femme conçut; elle enfanta un fils au temps, en la saison, que lui avait dits Elisée, et elle vécut.

18 And the boy grows, and the day comes that he goes out to his father, to the reapers,

Et l'enfant grandit, et un jour qu'il était vers son père auprès des moissonneurs,

19 and he says to his father, “My head, my head”; and he says to the young man, “Carry him to his mother”;

Il dit à son père: Ma tête! ma tête! Et le père dit à son serviteur: Porte-le à sa mère.

20 and he carries him, and brings him to his mother, and he sits on her knees until the noon, and dies.

Et le serviteur le porta à sa mère, qui le tint couché sur ses genoux jusqu'au milieu du jour; alors, il mourut.

21 And she goes up, and lays him on the bed of the man of God, and shuts [the door] on him, and goes out,

Et elle l'emporta, l'étendit sur le lit de l'homme de Dieu, ferma sur lui la porte et sortit de la maison.

22 and calls to her husband and says, “Please send one of the young men and one of the donkeys to me, and I run to the man of God, and return.”

Puis, elle appela son mari et lui dit: Envoie-moi l'un de tes serviteurs et une ânesse; je courrai jusqu'à l'homme de Dieu, et je reviendrai.

23 And he says, “Why are you going to him today? [It is] neither new moon nor Sabbath!” And she says, “Peace [to you]!”

Mais il dit: Pourquoi veux-tu l'aller trouver ce jour-ci, qui n'est ni sabbat ni nouvelle lune? Or, elle reprit: C'est bien.

24 And she saddles the donkey and says to her young man, “Lead, and go, do not restrain riding for me, except I have commanded [so] to you.”

Aussitôt, elle bâta son ânesse, et elle dit à son serviteur: Allons, marche, ne m'arrête point, sur ma monture, que je ne te dise: C'est ici; alors tu iras trouver l'homme de Dieu au mont Carmel.

25 And she goes, and comes to the man of God, to the hill of Carmel, and it comes to pass, at the man of God’s seeing her from within view, that he says to his young man Gehazi, “Behold, this Shunammite;

Elle partit donc, et alla jusqu'à l'homme de Dieu sur la montagne. Dès qu'Elisée l'aperçut venant à lui, il dit à Giézi, son serviteur: Voilà certainement cette Sunamite.

26 now please run to meet her, and say to her, Is there peace to you? Is there peace to your husband? Is there peace to the boy?” And she says, “Peace.”

Cours à sa rencontre, dis-lui: Vas-tu bien, et ton époux, et ton enfant? Elle répondit: Tout va bien.

27 And she comes to the man of God, to the hill, and lays hold on his feet, and Gehazi comes near to thrust her away, and the man of God says, “Leave her alone, for her soul [is] bitter to her, and YHWH has hidden [it] from me, and has not declared [it] to me.”

Puis, elle aborda Elisée sur la montagne, elle lui baisa les pieds, et Giézi s'avança pour la repousser; mais Elisée lui dit: Laisse-la, car son âme est pleine de douleur, et le Seigneur s'est caché de moi; il ne me l'a point dit.

28 And she says, “Did I ask for a son from my lord? Did I not say, Do not deceive me?”

Et la femme ajouta: Est-ce que j'avais demandé à mon maître un fils? N'avais-je point dit: Ne me trompe pas?

29 And he says to Gehazi, “Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go; when you meet a man, you do not greet him; and when a man greets you, you do not answer him; and you have laid my staff on the face of the youth.”

Et Elisée dit à Giézi: Ceins-toi les reins, prends en ta main mon bâton, et pars; si tu rencontres un homme, ne le bénis pas; si un homme te bénit, ne lui réponds pas; ensuite, tu poseras mon bâton sur le visage de l'enfant.

30 And the mother of the youth says, “YHWH lives, and your soul lives—if I leave you”; and he rises and goes after her.

Et la mère de l'enfant dit: Vive le Seigneur et vive ton âme! je ne te quitterai point. Elisée se leva donc, et la suivit.

31 And Gehazi has passed on before them, and lays the staff on the face of the youth, and there is no voice, and there is no attention, and he turns back to meet him, and declares to him, saying, “The youth has not awoken.”

Cependant, Giézi la devança; il posa le bâton sur le visage de l'enfant; mais il n'y avait plus de voix pour lui répondre, plus d'oreilles pour l'ouir; enfin il revint au-devant d'elle, et lui dit: L'enfant ne s'est point réveillé.

32 And Elisha comes into the house, and behold, the youth is dead, laid on his bed,

Et Elisée entra dans la maison; il vit l'enfant mort étendu sur son lit.

33 and he goes in and shuts the door on them both, and prays to YHWH.

Et à peine entré dans la maison, Elisée ferma la porte sur eux tous, et il adora le Seigneur.

34 And he goes up, and lies down on the boy, and puts his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands, and stretches himself on him, and the flesh of the boy becomes warm;

Il monta sur le lit; il se coucha sur l'enfant; il mit sa bouche contre sa bouche, ses yeux contre ses yeux, ses mains sur ses mains; il se courba sur lui, et la chair de l'enfant fut réchauffée.

35 and he turns back and walks in the house, once here and once there, and goes up and stretches himself on him, and the youth sneezes until seven times, and the youth opens his eyes.

Et le prophète descendit; il marcha çà et là dans la maison; puis, il remonta et se courba sur l'enfant, jusqu'à sept fois; et l'enfant ouvrit les yeux.

36 And he calls to Gehazi and says, “Call to this Shunammite”; and he calls her, and she comes to him, and he says, “Lift up your son.”

Alors, Elisée appelant à grands cris son serviteur, lui dit: Fais venir cette Sunamite. Il la fit venir; elle entra auprès du prophète, et il lui dit: Prends ton fils.

37 And she goes in, and falls at his feet, and bows herself to the earth, and lifts up her son, and goes out.

La femme s'avança, se jeta aux pieds du prophète, et l'adora la face contre terre; puis, elle prit son enfant et sortit.

38 And Elisha has turned back to Gilgal, and the famine [is] in the land, and the sons of the prophets are sitting before him, and he says to his young man, “Set on the great pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”

Elisée retourna à Galgala; il y avait là grande famine, et les fils des prophètes étaient assis devant lui. Elisée dit à son serviteur: Prends une grande chaudière et fais cuire à manger pour les fils des prophètes.

39 And one goes out to the field to gather herbs, and finds a vine of the field, and gathers gourds of the field from it—the fullness of his garment—and comes in and splits [them] into the pot of stew, for they did not know [them];

Lui-même alla aux champs recueillir des légumes sauvages; il trouva une vigne, il y prit des courges sauvages plein son manteau, et il les jeta dans la chaudière, sans qu'on le vit.

40 and they pour out for the men to eat, and it comes to pass at their eating of the stew, that they have cried out, and say, “Death [is] in the pot, O man of God!” And they have not been able to eat.

Cela fait, il porta aux hommes à manger, et tandis qu'ils mangeaient de cette bouillie, ils jetèrent un cri, et dirent: La mort est dans la chaudière, ô homme de Dieu. Et ils ne purent manger davantage.

41 And he says, “Then bring a meal”; and he casts into the pot and says, “Pour out for the people, and they eat”; and there was no bad thing in the pot.

Alors, il dit: Prenez de la farine et jetez-la dans la chaudière; et s'adressant à Giézi, son serviteur, il ajouta: Donne de cette bouillie au peuple et qu'ils mangent. Et il n'y eut plus rien de mauvais dans la chaudière.

42 And a man has come from Ba‘al-Shalishah, and brings to the man of God bread of first-fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of grain in its husk, and he says, “Give to the people, and they eat.”

Et un homme vint de Bétharisa, et il présenta à l'homme de Dieu de ses prémices: vingt pains d'orge avec des cabas de figues; et l'homme de Dieu dit: Donnez cela au peuple, et qu'ils mangent.

43 And his minister says, “How do I give this before one hundred men?” And he says, “Give to the people, and they eat, for thus said YHWH: Eat and leave”;

A quoi son serviteur répondit: Pourquoi donner cela à cent hommes! Mais Elisée reprit: Donne-le au peuple, qu'il mange; car le Seigneur a dit: Ils mangeront et ils en laisseront.

44 and he gives before them, and they eat and leave, according to the word of YHWH.

Et ils mangèrent et ils en laissèrent, selon la parole du Seigneur.
