2 Chronicles 28
1 Ahaz [is] a son of twenty years in his reigning, and he has reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and he has not done that which is right in the eyes of YHWH, as his father David,
Achaz avait vingt ans à son avènement et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem; il ne fit pas ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Eternel comme David, son aïeul.
2 and walks in the ways of the kings of Israel, and has also made molten images for Ba‘alim,
Au contraire, il suivit l’exemple des rois d’Israël et fit même des idoles de fonte en l’honneur des Bealim.
3 and has made incense himself in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and burns his sons with fire according to the abominations of the nations that YHWH dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,
Il offrit de l’encens dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, fit brûler ses fils dans le feu, imitant les abominations des peuples que l’Eternel avait dépossédés au profit des enfants d’Israël.
4 and sacrifices and makes incense in high places, and on the heights, and under every green tree.
Il offrit des sacrifices et de l’encens sur les hauts lieux et les collines et sous tous les arbres verdoyants.
5 And his God YHWH gives him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they strike him, and take captive a great captivity from him, and bring [them] to Damascus, and he has also been given into the hand of the king of Israel, and he strikes him [with] a great striking.
Alors l’Eternel, son Dieu, le livra au pouvoir du roi des Syriens, qui le battirent, lui prirent un grand nombre de captifs, qu’ils emmenèrent à Damas. Il fut livré aussi au roi d’Israël, qui lui infligea une grande défaite.
6 And Pekah son of Remaliah slays one hundred and twenty thousand in Judah in one day (the whole [are] sons of valor), because of their forsaking YHWH, God of their fathers.
Pékah, fils de Remaliahou, tua en Juda cent vingt mille hommes en un jour, tous de vaillants guerriers, parce qu’ils avaient abandonné l’Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.
7 And Zichri, a mighty one of Ephraim, slays Maaseiah son of the king, and Azrikam leader of the house, and Elkanah second to the king.
Zikhri, un guerrier d’Ephraïm, tua Maassêyahou, fils du roi, Azrikam, intendant du palais, et Elkana, le vice-roi.
8 And the sons of Israel take captive of their brothers: two hundred thousand wives, sons, and daughters; and they have also seized much spoil from them, and they bring in the spoil to Samaria.
Les enfants d’Israël capturèrent d’entre leurs frères deux cent mille âmes, femmes, fils et filles et ils leur prirent, en outre, un butin abondant, qu’ils emportèrent à Samarie.
9 And there has been a prophet of YHWH there (Oded [is] his name), and he goes out before the host that has come to Samaria, and says to them, “Behold, in the fury of YHWH, God of your fathers, against Judah, He has given them into your hand, and you slay among them in rage—it has come to the heavens;
Là se trouvait un prophète de l’Eternel, nommé Oded. Il sortit à la rencontre de l’armée revenant à Samarie et leur dit: "Voyez! C’Est dans sa colère contre Juda que l’Eternel, Dieu de vos pères, les a livrés entre vos mains; mais vous en avez fait un carnage féroce qui s’est amoncelé jusqu’au ciel.
10 and now you are saying to subdue sons of Judah and Jerusalem for menservants and for maidservants for yourselves; but are there not causes of guilt with you before your God YHWH?
Et maintenant, ces enfants de Juda et de Jérusalem, vous parlez de les réduire à la condition d’esclaves et de servantes. N’Est-ce pas vous rendre coupables vous-mêmes à l’égard de l’Eternel, votre Dieu?
11 And now, hear me, and send back the captives whom you have taken captive of your brothers, for the heat of the anger of YHWH [is] on you.”
Or donc, écoutez-moi et restituez ces captifs que vous avez faits d’entre vos frères, car la colère de l’Eternel s’enflamme contre vous."
12 And certain of the heads of the sons of Ephraim (Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai), rise up against those coming in from the host,
Alors quelques hommes d’entre les chefs des Ephraïmites, Azariahou, fils de Yehohanan, Bérékhiahou, fils de Mechillêmôt, Yéhizkiyahou, fils de Challoum, et Amassa, fils de Hadlaï, s’élevèrent contre ceux qui revenaient de l’expédition.
13 and say to them, “You do not bring in the captives here, for guilt against YHWH [is already] on us, you are saying to add to our sin and to our guilt. For abundant [is] the guilt we have, and the fierceness of anger on Israel.”
Ils leur dirent: "N’Amenez pas ces captifs ici, ce serait nous charger d’un crime envers l’Eternel: vous voudriez ajouter à nos péchés et à notre crime; notre faute est déjà grande et le courroux divin s’est enflammé contre Israël."
14 And the armed men leave the captives and the prey before the heads and all the assembly;
Alors l’armée abandonna la capture et le butin aux chefs et à toute la foule.
15 and the men who have been expressed by name rise and take hold on the captives, and they have clothed all their naked ones from the spoil, indeed, they clothe them, and shoe them, and cause them to eat and drink, and anoint them, and lead them on donkeys, even every feeble one, and bring them to Jericho, the city of palms, near their brothers, and return to Samaria.
Les hommes désignés nominativement se levèrent, se saisirent des captifs; tous ceux qui étaient nus, ils les vêtirent d’habits pris du butin, les habillèrent, les chaussèrent, leur donnèrent à manger et à boire, les frictionnèrent, conduisirent à âne tous ceux qui trébuchaient, les menèrent à Jéricho, la ville des palmiers, auprès de leurs frères et revinrent à Samarie.
16 At that time King Ahaz has sent to the king of Asshur to give help to him;
En ce temps-là, le roi Achaz envoya demander aux rois d’Assyrie de lui venir en aide.
17 and again the Edomites have come, and strike in Judah, and take captive a captivity.
Des Iduméens vinrent aussi, remportèrent une victoire en Juda et emmenèrent des prisonniers.
18 And the Philistines have rushed against the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and capture Beth-Shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho and its villages, and Timnah and its villages, and Gimzo and its villages, and dwell there,
De plus, des Philistins envahirent les villes de la Basse-Terre et du Sud de Juda, conquirent Beth-Chémech, Ayyalôn, Ghedèrôt, Sokho avec ses dépendances, Timna avec ses dépendances et Ghimzo avec ses dépendances, et s’y établirent.
19 for YHWH has humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he made free with Judah, even to commit a trespass against YHWH.
Car l’Eternel avait humilié Juda à cause d’Achaz, roi d’Israël, qui s’était déréglé en Juda et montré rebelle à l’Eternel.
20 And Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur comes to him, and does distress him, and has not strengthened him,
Tilgat-Pilneécer, roi d’Assyrie, marcha contre lui et l’assiégea au lieu de l’assister.
21 though Ahaz has taken a portion [out] of the house of YHWH, and [out] of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gives to the king of Asshur, yet it is no help to him.
Car Achaz avait dépouillé la maison de l’Eternel, le palais du roi et les chefs pour tout donner au roi d’Assyrie, mais cela ne lui servit de rien.
22 And in the time of his distress—he adds to trespass against YHWH (this King Ahaz),
Et dans le temps de sa détresse, il continua ses infidélités à l’Eternel, lui, le roi Achaz.
23 and he sacrifices to the gods of Damascus [which were] those striking him, and says, “Because the gods of the kings of Aram are helping them, I sacrifice to them, and they help me,” and they have been to him to cause him to stumble, and to all Israel.
Il sacrifia aux dieux de Damas qui l’avaient battu et dit: "Ce sont les dieux des rois de Syrie qui les ont secourus, je vais leur sacrifier et ils me secourront." Mais ce furent eux qui causèrent sa chute et celle de tout Israël.
24 And Ahaz gathers the vessels of the house of God, and cuts in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shuts the doors of the house of YHWH, and makes altars for himself in every corner in Jerusalem.
Achaz réunit les vases du temple de Dieu et les brisa. Il ferma les portes du temple de l’Eternel et se fit des autels dans tous les coins de Jérusalem.
25 And in each and every city of Judah he has made high places to make incense to other gods, and provokes YHWH, God of his fathers.
Et dans chaque ville de Juda il érigea des hauts lieux pour encenser les dieux étrangers, irritant ainsi l’Eternel, le Dieu de ses pères.
26 And the rest of his matters, and all his ways, the first and the last, behold, they are written on the scroll of the kings of Judah and Israel.
Le reste de ses faits et gestes et toutes ses actions, des premières aux dernières, se trouvent consignés dans le livre des Rois de Juda et d’Israël.
27 And Ahaz lies with his fathers, and they bury him in the city, in Jerusalem, but have not brought him to the graves of the kings of Israel, and his son Hezekiah reigns in his stead.
Achaz s’endormit avec ses pères et fut enterré dans la ville, à Jérusalem, car on ne le plaça point dans le sépulcre des rois d’Israël. Son fils Ezéchias lui succéda.
