2 Chronicles 22
1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem cause his youngest son Ahaziah to reign in his stead (for the troop had slain all the chiefly that came in with the Arabians to the camp), and Ahaziah son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigns.
Les habitants de Jérusalem proclamèrent roi en ses lieu et place Achazia, son fils cadet, tous les frères plus âgés ayant été tués par la troupe qui, du côté des Arabes, avait assailli le camp. Achazia, fils de Joram, devint roi de Juda.
2 Ahaziah [is] a son of twenty-two years in his reigning, and he has reigned one year in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Athaliah daughter of Omri;
Agé de quarante-deux ans à son avènement, il régna un an à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Athalie; elle était fille d’Omri.
3 he has also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother has been his counselor to do wickedly.
Lui aussi, il imita la conduite de la maison d’Achab, car sa mère était sa mauvaise conseillère.
4 And he does evil in the eyes of YHWH, like the house of Ahab, for they have been his counselors, after the death of his father, for destruction to him.
Il fit donc ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Eternel comme ceux de la dynastie d’Achab; car, après la mort de son père, ce furent eux qui le conseillaient, pour son malheur.
5 Also, he has walked in their counsel, and goes with Jehoram son of Ahab, king of Israel, to battle against Hazael king of Aram in Ramoth-Gilead, and they of Ramah strike Joram;
Il ne laissa pas de suivre leurs conseils. Il fit, de concert avec Joram, fils d’Achab, roi d’Israël, une expédition militaire contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie, du côté de Ramot-Galaad; les Syriens blessèrent Joram.
6 and he turns back to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds with which they had struck him in Ramah, in his fighting with Hazael king of Aram. And Azariah son of Jehoram, king of Judah, has gone down to see Jehoram son of Ahab in Jezreel, for he [is] sick;
Celui-ci s’en retourna chez lui pour se remettre à Jezreël des blessures que lui avaient infligées les Syriens à Rama, lors de sa campagne contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie, et Azariahou, fils de Joram, roi de Juda, descendit pour rendre visite à Joram, fils d’Achab, à Jezreël, au cours de sa maladie.
7 and to come to Joram has been from God [for] the destruction of Ahaziah; and in his coming he has gone out with Jehoram to Jehu son of Nimshi, whom YHWH anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
Or, par la volonté de Dieu, ce fut la perte d’Achazia que cette visite à Joram; car, aussitôt arrivé, il sortit avec Joram à la rencontre de Jéhu, fils de Nimchi, que le Seigneur avait oint pour amener la destruction de la maison d’Achab.
8 And it comes to pass, in Jehu’s executing judgment with the house of Ahab, that he finds the heads of Judah and sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, ministers of Ahaziah, and slays them.
Lorsque Jéhu se fit le justicier de la maison d’Achab, il surprit les chefs de Juda et les neveux d’Achazia, attachés à son service, et les fit périr.
9 And he seeks Ahaziah, and they capture him (and he is hiding himself in Samaria), and bring him to Jehu, and put him to death, and bury him, for they said, “He [is] son of Jehoshaphat, who sought YHWH with all his heart”; and there is none of the house of Ahaziah to retain power for the kingdom.
Puis, il fit rechercher Achazia; on s’empara de lui alors qu’il se tenait caché à Samarie, on l’amena à Jéhu et on le mit à mort. Mais on l’ensevelit, "car, disait-on, il était fils de Josaphat, qui recherchait l’Eternel de tout son cœur". De la maison d’Achazia, il n’y eut personne qui fût capable d’assumer la royauté.
10 And Athaliah mother of Ahaziah has seen that her son is dead, and she rises and destroys the whole seed of the kingdom of the house of Judah.
Or, Athalie, mère d’Achazia, voyant son fils mort, se mit à exterminer toute la race royale de la maison de Juda.
11 And Jehoshabeath daughter of the king takes Joash son of Ahaziah, and steals him from the midst of the sons of the king who are put to death, and puts him and his nurse into the inner part of the bed-chambers, and Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram, wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she has been sister of Ahaziah, hides him from the face of Athaliah, and she has not put him to death.
Mais Josabeth, fille du roi, se saisit de Joas, fils d’Achazia, l’arracha furtivement d’entre les fils du roi, qui avaient été mis à mort, l’installa, lui et sa nourrice, dans la chambre des lits. Ainsi Josabeth, fille du roi Joram, femme du grand prêtre Joïada elle était sœur d’Achazia le déroba aux regards d’Athalie, qui ne put le faire périr.
12 And he is with them in the house of God hiding himself [for] six years, and Athaliah is reigning over the land.
Il resta avec elles dans le temple de l’Eternel, se tenant caché pendant six ans, tandis qu’Athalie régnait sur le pays.
