2 Chronicles 2
1 And Solomon says to build a house for the Name of YHWH, and a house for his kingdom,
Et Salomon pensait à élever un temple au Nom de l'Éternel et un palais pour sa demeure royale.
2 and Solomon numbers seventy thousand men bearing burden, and eighty thousand men hewing in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers over them.
Alors Salomon fixa un nombre de soixante-dix mille portefaix et de quatre-vingt mille tailleurs de pierre dans la montagne et trois mille six cents préposés pour les conduire.
3 And Solomon sends to Huram king of Tyre, saying, “When you have dealt with my father David, then you send cedars to him to build a house for him to dwell in;
Et Salomon députa vers Huram, roi de Tyr, pour lui dire: [Fais pour moi] comme tu as fait pour David, mon père, en lui envoyant des cèdres pour se bâtir un palais pour sa demeure.
4 behold, I am building a house for the Name of my God YHWH, to sanctify [it] to Him, to make incense before Him, incense of spices, and a continual arrangement, and burnt-offerings at morning and at evening, at Sabbaths, and at new moons, and at appointed times of our God YHWH; this [is] on Israel for all time.
Voici, j'élève un temple au Nom de l'Éternel, mon Dieu, pour le Lui consacrer, pour brûler devant lui l'encens odorant et lui offrir les pains de présentation à l'ordinaire, et les holocaustes du matin et du soir aux Sabbats, aux Nouvelles-Lunes, et aux Fêtes de l'Éternel, notre Dieu: c'est à perpétuité un devoir pour Israël.
5 And the house that I am building [is] great, for our God [is] greater than all gods;
Et l'édifice que je veux construire sera grand; car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.
6 and who retains strength to build a house for Him, since the heavens, even the heavens of the heavens, do not contain Him? And who [am] I that I build a house for Him, except to make incense before Him?
Mais qui sera de force à lui élever un temple? car les Cieux et les Cieux des Cieux ne peuvent Le contenir; et qui suis-je pour lui élever un temple? ce n'est que pour faire fumer l'encens devant lui.
7 And now, send a wise man to me to work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and knowing to engrave engravings with the wise men who [are] with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom my father David prepared;
Envoie-moi donc un homme habile à travailler en or et en argent et en airain et en fer et en pourpre rouge et cramoisi et pourpre d'azur, et sachant sculpter des sculptures, pour se joindre aux hommes habiles que j'ai à ma portée en Juda et à Jérusalem et qu'a préparés David, mon père.
8 and send to me cedar-trees, firs, and algums from Lebanon, for I have known that your servants know to cut down trees of Lebanon, and behold, my servants [are] with your servants,
Et envoie-moi des bois de cèdre, de cyprès et de santal, du Liban; car je sais que tes serviteurs s'entendent à couper le bois au Liban, et voici, mes serviteurs se joindront à tes serviteurs.
9 even to prepare trees in abundance for me, for the house that I am building [is] great and wonderful.
Et je dois me procurer du bois en masse, car le temple que je vais élever doit être grand et merveilleux.
10 And behold, I have given to your servants, to hewers, to those cutting the trees, twenty thousand cors of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand cors of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.”
Et voici, pour les bûcherons qui couperont le bois je donnerai à tes serviteurs du froment égrené, vingt mille cors, et de l'orge, vingt mille cors, et du vin, vingt mille baths, et de l'huile, vingt mille baths.
11 And Huram king of Tyre answers in writing, and sends [it] to Solomon: “In the love of YHWH for His people, He has set you [as] king over them.”
Et Huram, roi de Tyr, répondit par écrit, mandant à Salomon: « C'est par amour pour son peuple que l'Éternel t'en a fait roi.
12 And Huram says, “Blessed [is] YHWH, God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth, who has given a wise son to David the king, knowing wisdom and understanding, who builds a house for YHWH, and a house for his kingdom.
Et Huram disait: Béni soit l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, qui a fait les Cieux et la terre, de ce qu'il a donné au roi David un fils sage et prudent et intelligent qui veut élever un temple à l'Éternel et un palais pour sa demeure royale.
13 And now, I have sent a wise man having understanding, of [my] father Huram
Je t'envoie donc un homme habile et doué d'intelligence,
14 (son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father a man of Tyre), knowing to work in gold, and in silver, in bronze, in iron, in stones, and in wood, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, and to engrave any engraving, and to devise any invention that is given to him, with your wise men, and the wise men of my lord, your father David.
savoir Huram-Abi, fils d'une femme d'entre les filles de Dan, tandis que son père était un Tyrien, habile ouvrier en or et en argent, en airain, en fer, en pierre et en bois, en pourpre rouge, en pourpre d'azur et en byssus et en cramoisi et sachant sculpter toutes sortes de sculptures, et imaginer toutes les sortes d'ouvrages d'art qui lui sont proposés, avec le concours de tes hommes entendus et des hommes entendus de mon Seigneur David, ton père.
15 And now, the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, as my lord said, let him send to his servants,
Et quant au froment et à l'orge, à l'huile et au vin, dont mon Seigneur a parlé, qu'il veuille l'envoyer à ses serviteurs:
16 and we cut trees out of Lebanon, according to all your need, and bring them to you—floats by sea, to Joppa, and you take them up to Jerusalem.”
de notre côté nous couperons du bois au Liban selon tous tes besoins, et nous te l'amènerons en radeaux par mer à Joppe; d'où tu pourras le faire conduire à Jérusalem. »
17 And Solomon numbers all the men, the sojourners who [are] in the land of Israel, after the numbering with which his father David numbered them, and they are found [to be] one hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred;
Et Salomon dénombra tous les étrangers qui étaient au pays d'Israël, d'après le dénombrement qu'avait fait d'eux David, son père, et il s'en trouva cent cinquante-trois mille six cents.
18 and he makes from them seventy thousand burden-bearers, and eighty thousand hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers, to cause the people to work.
Et il en fit soixante-dix mille portefaix, et quatre-vingt mille tailleurs de pierre dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents préposés pour tenir ce monde assujetti.
