2 Chronicles 10
1 And Rehoboam goes to Shechem, for all of Israel has come [to] Shechem to cause him to reign.

2 And it comes to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat—who [is] in Egypt because he has fled from the face of Solomon the king—hearing, that Jeroboam turns back out of Egypt;
Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, ayant appris ce qui se passait, — il était encore en Égypte, où il s’était enfui loin du roi Salomon, — revint d’Égypte,
3 and they send and call for him, and Jeroboam comes in, and all of Israel, and they speak to Rehoboam, saying,
et on l’envoya chercher. Alors Jéroboam et tout Israël vinrent et parlèrent à Roboam en ces termes:
4 “Your father made our yoke sharp, and now, make light [some] of the sharp service of your father, and [some] of his heavy yoke that he put on us, and we serve you.”
« Ton père a rendu notre joug dur; maintenant, allège la dure servitude que nous a imposée ton père et le joug pesant qu’il a mis sur nous; et nous te servirons. »
5 And he says to them, “Yet three days—then return to me”; and the people go.
Il leur dit: « Revenez vers moi dans trois jours. « Et le peuple s’en alla.
6 And King Rehoboam consults with the aged men who have been standing before his father Solomon in his being alive, saying, “How are you counseling to answer this people?”
Le roi Roboam consulta les vieillards qui s’étaient tenus auprès de Salomon, son père, pendant sa vie, en disant: « Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple? »
7 And they speak to him, saying, “If you become good to this people, and have been pleased with them, and spoken to them good words, then they have been servants to you [for] all the days.”
Ils lui parlèrent en disant: « Si tu es bon envers ce peuple, si tu les reçois avec faveur et si tu leur adresses des paroles bienveillantes, ils seront pour toujours tes serviteurs. »
8 And he forsakes the counsel of the aged men that they counseled him, and consults with the boys who have grown up with him, those standing before him,
Mais Roboam laissa le conseil que lui donnaient les vieillards, et il consulta les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui et qui se tenaient devant lui.
9 and he says to them, “What are you counseling, and we answer this people that have spoken to me, saying, Make light [some] of the yoke that your father put on us?”
Il leur dit: « Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple qui me tient ce langage: Allège le joug que nous a imposé ton père? »
10 And the boys who have grown up with him speak with him, saying, “Thus you say to the people who have spoken to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and you, make light [some] of our yoke; thus you say to them, My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father;
Les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui, lui répondirent en disant: « Tu parleras ainsi à ce peuple qui t’a tenu ce langage: Ton père a rendu notre joug pesant; toi, allège-le-nous! Tu leur parleras ainsi: Mon petit doigt est plus gros que les reins de mon père.
11 and now, my father laid a heavy yoke on you, and I add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, and I—with scorpions.”
Eh bien! mon père vous a chargés d’un joug pesant, et moi je rendrai votre joug plus pesant encore; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions. »
12 And Jeroboam comes in, and all the people, to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king spoke, saying, “Return to me on the third day.”
Jéroboam et tout le peuple vinrent auprès de Roboam le troisième jour, selon que le roi avait dit: « Revenez vers moi dans trois jours. »
13 And the king answers them sharply, and King Rehoboam forsakes the counsel of the aged men,
Le roi leur répondit durement. Laissant le conseil des vieillards,
14 and speaks to them according to the counsel of the boys, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, and I add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, and I—with scorpions.”
le roi Roboam leur parla selon le conseil des jeunes gens, en ces termes: « Mon père a rendu votre joug pesant, et moi je vous le rendrai plus pesant encore; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions. »
15 And the king has not listened to the people, for the revolution has been from God, for the sake of YHWH’s establishing His word that He spoke by the hand of Abijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.
Le roi n’écouta donc pas le peuple, car tel était le procédé de Dieu pour accomplir la parole que Yahweh avait dite par Ahias de Silo à Jéroboam, fils de Nabat.
16 And all Israel have seen that the king has not listened to them, and the people send back [word to] the king, saying, “What portion do we have in David? Indeed, there is no inheritance in a son of Jesse; [go], each to your tents, O Israel! Now see your house, O David!” And all [in] Israel go to their tents.
Lorsque tout Israël vit que le roi ne l’écoutait pas, le peuple répondit au roi en ces termes: « Quelle part avons-nous avec David? Nous n’avons point d’héritage avec le fils d’Isaï. Chacun à ses tentes, Israël. Quant à toi, pourvois à ta maison, David! » Et tout Israël s’en alla dans ses tentes.
17 As for the sons of Israel who are dwelling in the cities of Judah—Rehoboam reigns over them.
Ce fut seulement sur les enfants d’Israël qui habitaient les villes de Juda que régna Roboam.
18 And King Rehoboam sends Hadoram, who [is] over the tribute, and the sons of Israel cast stones at him, and he dies; and King Rehoboam has strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;
Alors le roi Roboam envoya Aduram, qui était préposé aux impôts; mais Aduram fut lapidé par tout Israël, et il mourut. Et le roi Roboam se hâta de monter sur un char pour s’enfuir à Jérusalem.
19 and Israel transgresses against the house of David to this day.
C’est ainsi qu’Israël se détacha de la maison de David jusqu’à ce jour.
