1 Samuel 8
1 And it comes to pass, when Samuel [is] aged, that he makes his sons judges over Israel.
Cuando Samuel envejeció, puso a sus hijos como jueces de Israel.
2 And the name of his firstborn son is Joel, and the name of his second Abiah, judges in Beer-Sheba:
El nombre de su primogénito fue Joel, y el del segundo, Abías. Fueron jueces en Beerseba.
3 and his sons have not walked in his ways, and turn aside after the dishonest gain, and take a bribe, and turn aside judgment.
Sus hijos no siguieron sus caminos, sino que se apartaron en pos de ganancias deshonestas, aceptaron sobornos y pervirtieron la justicia.
4 And all [the] elderly of Israel gather themselves together, and come to Samuel at Ramath,
Entonces se reunieron todos los ancianos de Israel y vinieron a Samuel a Ramá.
5 and say to him, “Behold, you have become aged, and your sons have not walked in your ways; now, appoint a king to us, to judge us, like all the nations.”
Le dijeron: “Mira que eres viejo, y tus hijos no andan por tus caminos. Haznos ahora un rey que nos juzgue como a todas las naciones”.
6 And the thing is evil in the eyes of Samuel when they have said, “Give a king to us, to judge us”; and Samuel prays to YHWH.
Pero a Samuel le disgustó que dijeran: “Danos un rey que nos juzgue”. Samuel oró a Yahvé.
7 And YHWH says to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people, to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from reigning over them.
Yahvé le dijo a Samuel: “Escucha la voz del pueblo en todo lo que te diga; porque no te han rechazado a ti, sino que me han rechazado a mí como rey sobre ellos.
8 According to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even to this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other gods—so they are also doing to you.
Según todas las obras que han hecho desde el día en que los saqué de Egipto hasta hoy, en que me han abandonado y han servido a otros dioses, así hacen también contigo.
9 And now, listen to their voice; only, surely you certainly protest to them, and have declared to them the custom of the king who reigns over them.”
Ahora, pues, escucha su voz. Sin embargo, protestarás solemnemente ante ellos, y les mostrarás el camino del rey que reinará sobre ellos.”
10 And Samuel speaks all the words of YHWH to the people who are asking [for] a king from him,
Samuel contó todas las palabras de Yahvé al pueblo que le pedía un rey.
11 and says, “This is the custom of the king who reigns over you: he takes your sons, and has appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots;
Dijo: “Este será el camino del rey que reinará sobre ustedes: tomará a sus hijos y los designará como sus servidores, para sus carros y para ser sus jinetes; y correrán delante de sus carros.
12 also to appoint for himself heads of thousands, and heads of fifties; also to plow his plowing, and to reap his reaping; and to make instruments of his war, and instruments of his charioteer.
Los nombrará para él como capitanes de millares y capitanes de cincuenta; y asignará a algunos para arar su tierra y segar su cosecha, y para hacer sus instrumentos de guerra y los instrumentos de sus carros.
13 And he takes your daughters for perfumers, and for cooks, and for bakers;
Tomará a vuestras hijas para que sean perfumistas, cocineras y panaderas.
14 and your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive-yards—he takes the best, and has given to his servants.
Tomará tus campos, tus viñedos y tus olivares, incluso los mejores, y los dará a sus siervos.
15 And he tithes your seed and your vineyards, and has given to his eunuchs, and to his servants.
Tomará la décima parte de tus semillas y de tus viñedos, y se la dará a sus funcionarios y a sus siervos.
16 And your menservants and your maidservants, and the best of your young men and your donkeys, he takes, and has prepared for his own work;
Tomará tus siervos, tus siervas, tus mejores jóvenes y tus asnos, y los destinará a su propio trabajo.
17 he tithes your flock, and you are for servants to him.
Tomará la décima parte de vuestros rebaños, y vosotros seréis sus siervos.
18 And you have cried out in that day because of the king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and YHWH does not answer you in that day.”
Aquel día gritaréis a causa de vuestro rey que habréis elegido para vosotros, y el Señor no os responderá en aquel día.”
19 And the people refuse to listen to the voice of Samuel, and say, “No, but a king is over us,
Pero el pueblo se negó a escuchar la voz de Samuel y dijo: “No, sino que tendremos un rey sobre nosotros,
20 and we have been, even we, like all the nations; and our king has judged us, and gone out before us, and fought our battles.”
para que también seamos como todas las naciones, y para que nuestro rey nos juzgue y salga delante de nosotros y pelee nuestras batallas.”
21 And Samuel hears all the words of the people, and speaks them in the ears of YHWH;
Samuel escuchó todas las palabras del pueblo y las ensayó en los oídos de Yahvé.
22 and YHWH says to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and you have caused a king to reign over them.” And Samuel says to the men of Israel, “Go, each man, to his city.”
Yahvé dijo a Samuel: “Escucha su voz y hazles un rey”. Samuel dijo a los hombres de Israel: “Que cada uno se vaya a su ciudad”.
