1 Samuel 8
1 And it comes to pass, when Samuel [is] aged, that he makes his sons judges over Israel.
A gdy Samuel zestarzał się, ustanowił swoich synów sędziami nad Izraelem.
2 And the name of his firstborn son is Joel, and the name of his second Abiah, judges in Beer-Sheba:
Jego pierworodny syn miał na imię Joel, a drugi [syn] – Abija; [byli oni] sędziami w Beer-Szebie.
3 and his sons have not walked in his ways, and turn aside after the dishonest gain, and take a bribe, and turn aside judgment.
Jednak jego synowie nie chodzili jego drogami, lecz skłaniali się ku zyskowi, brali łapówki i wypaczali sąd.
4 And all [the] elderly of Israel gather themselves together, and come to Samuel at Ramath,
Zebrali się więc wszyscy starsi Izraela i przyszli do Samuela, do Rama;
5 and say to him, “Behold, you have become aged, and your sons have not walked in your ways; now, appoint a king to us, to judge us, like all the nations.”
I powiedzieli mu: Oto zestarzałeś się, a twoi synowie nie chodzą twoimi drogami. Ustanów nam więc króla, aby nas sądził, jak to [jest] u wszystkich narodów.
6 And the thing is evil in the eyes of Samuel when they have said, “Give a king to us, to judge us”; and Samuel prays to YHWH.
Lecz Samuelowi nie podobało się to, że mówili: Daj nam króla, aby nas sądził. I modlił się Samuel do PANA.
7 And YHWH says to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people, to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from reigning over them.
Wtedy PAN powiedział do Samuela: Posłuchaj głosu tego ludu we wszystkim, co ci powiedzą, gdyż nie tobą wzgardzili, ale mną wzgardzili, abym nie królował nad nimi.
8 According to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even to this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other gods—so they are also doing to you.
A zgodnie ze wszystkim, co uczynili od [tego] dnia, kiedy wyprowadziłem ich z Egiptu, aż do dziś, gdy mnie opuścili i służyli obcym bogom, tak też czynią z tobą.
9 And now, listen to their voice; only, surely you certainly protest to them, and have declared to them the custom of the king who reigns over them.”
Teraz więc posłuchaj ich głosu, ale stanowczo ostrzeż ich i oznajmij [im] prawo króla, który będzie nad nimi panować.
10 And Samuel speaks all the words of YHWH to the people who are asking [for] a king from him,
I Samuel powiedział wszystkie słowa PANA do ludu, który go prosił o króla;
11 and says, “This is the custom of the king who reigns over you: he takes your sons, and has appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots;
I mówił: Takie będzie prawo króla, który będzie panował nad wami: Będzie brał waszych synów, by ich osadzić w swych rydwanach, ustanowić ich jeźdźcami, a [inni] będą biegać przed jego rydwanem;
12 also to appoint for himself heads of thousands, and heads of fifties; also to plow his plowing, and to reap his reaping; and to make instruments of his war, and instruments of his charioteer.
I ustanowi ich sobie dowódcami nad tysiącami i nad pięćdziesiątkami; [wyznaczy ich], aby uprawiali jego rolę i zbierali jego plony, i robili sprzęt wojenny oraz sprzęt do jego rydwanów.
13 And he takes your daughters for perfumers, and for cooks, and for bakers;
Wasze córki również zabierze, aby przyrządzały wonności oraz aby były kucharkami i piekarkami.
14 and your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive-yards—he takes the best, and has given to his servants.
Zabierze też wasze pola, winnice i sady oliwne, te najlepsze, i da swoim sługom.
15 And he tithes your seed and your vineyards, and has given to his eunuchs, and to his servants.
Z waszych zasiewów i winnic będzie pobierał dziesięcinę i odda ją swoim urzędnikom i sługom.
16 And your menservants and your maidservants, and the best of your young men and your donkeys, he takes, and has prepared for his own work;
Weźmie również wasze sługi i służące oraz waszych najlepszych młodzieńców, a także wasze osły, i zatrudni w swojej pracy.
17 he tithes your flock, and you are for servants to him.
Pobierze dziesięcinę z waszych trzód, a wy będziecie jego sługami.
18 And you have cried out in that day because of the king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and YHWH does not answer you in that day.”
I będziecie wołać tego dnia z powodu waszego króla, którego sobie wybraliście, a PAN nie wysłucha was w tym dniu.
19 And the people refuse to listen to the voice of Samuel, and say, “No, but a king is over us,
Lud jednak nie chciał posłuchać głosu Samuela i mówił: Nie tak, ale niech będzie król nad nami;
20 and we have been, even we, like all the nations; and our king has judged us, and gone out before us, and fought our battles.”
Abyśmy też byli jak wszystkie narody – aby nasz król sądził nas, aby nam przewodził i prowadził nasze wojny.
21 And Samuel hears all the words of the people, and speaks them in the ears of YHWH;
A Samuel wysłuchał wszystkich słów ludu i powtórzył je do uszu PANA.
22 and YHWH says to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and you have caused a king to reign over them.” And Samuel says to the men of Israel, “Go, each man, to his city.”
I PAN powiedział do Samuela: Posłuchaj ich głosu i ustanów nad nimi króla. Samuel powiedział więc do mężczyzn Izraela: Idźcie każdy do swego miasta.
