1 Samuel 7
1 And the men of Kirjath-Jearim come and bring up the Ark of YHWH, and bring it into the house of Abinadab, in the height, and they have sanctified his son Eleazar to keep the Ark of YHWH.
Entonces el pueblo de Quiriat-jearim vino y se apropió del Arca del Señor. La pusieron en la casa de Abinadab, en la colina. Designaron a su hijo Eleazar para cuidar el Arca del Señor.
2 And it comes to pass, from the day of the dwelling of the Ark in Kirjath-Jearim, that the days are multiplied—indeed, they are twenty years—and all the house of Israel wails after YHWH.
El Arca permaneció allí, en Quiriat-jearim, desde aquel día, durante mucho tiempo, hasta veinte años. Todos en Israel se lamentaron y, arrepentidos, volvieron al Señor.
3 And Samuel speaks to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are turning back to YHWH with all your heart—turn aside the gods of the stranger from your midst, and Ashtaroth; and prepare your heart for YHWH, and serve Him only, and He delivers you out of the hand of the Philistines.”
Entonces Samuel le dijo a todo Israel: “Si desean sinceramente volver al Señor, desháganse de los dioses extranjeros y de las imágenes de Astoret, entréguense al Señor y adórenlo sólo a él, y él los salvará de los filisteos”.
4 And the sons of Israel turn aside the Ba‘alim and Ashtaroth, and serve YHWH alone;
El pueblo de Israel se deshizo de sus baales e imágenes de Astoret y sólo adoró al Señor.
5 and Samuel says, “Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I pray to YHWH for you.”
Entonces Samuel dijo: “Que todo el pueblo de Israel se reúna en Mizpa, y yo oraré al Señor por ustedes”.
6 And they are gathered to Mizpeh, and draw water, and pour out before YHWH, and fast on that day, and say there, “We have sinned against YHWH”; and Samuel judges the sons of Israel in Mizpeh.
Una vez reunidos en Mizpa, sacaron agua y la derramaron ante el Señor. Ese día ayunaron y reconocieron: “Hemos pecado contra el Señor”. Y Samuel se convirtió en el líder de los israelitas en Mizpa.
7 And the Philistines hear that the sons of Israel have gathered themselves to Mizpeh; and the princes of the Philistines go up against Israel, and the sons of Israel hear, and are afraid of the presence of the Philistines.
Cuando los filisteos se enteraron de que los israelitas se habían reunido en Mizpa, sus gobernantes dirigieron un ataque contra Israel. Cuando los israelitas se enteraron de esto, se aterraron por lo que los filisteos podrían hacer.
8 And the sons of Israel say to Samuel, “Do not keep silent for us from crying to our God YHWH, and He saves us out of the hand of the Philistines.”
Le dijeron a Samuel: “No dejes de rogarle al Señor nuestro Dios por nosotros, para que nos salve de los filisteos”.
9 And Samuel takes a fat lamb, and causes it to go up—a whole burnt-offering to YHWH; and Samuel cries to YHWH for Israel, and YHWH answers him;
Samuel tomó un cordero joven y lo presentó como holocausto completo al Señor. Clamó al Señor por ayuda para Israel, y el Señor le respondió.
10 and Samuel is causing the burnt-offering to go up—and the Philistines have drawn near to battle against Israel—and YHWH thunders with a great noise, on that day, on the Philistines, and troubles them, and they are struck before Israel.
Mientras Samuel presentaba el holocausto, los filisteos se acercaron para atacar a Israel. Pero aquel día el Señor tronó muy fuerte contra los filisteos, lo que los confundió totalmente, y fueron derrotados ante la mirada de Israel.
11 And the men of Israel go out from Mizpeh, and pursue the Philistines, and strike them to the place of Beth-Car.
Entonces los hombres de Israel salieron corriendo de Mizpa y los persiguieron, matándolos hasta llegar a un lugar cercano a Bet-car.
12 And Samuel takes a stone, and sets [it] between Mizpeh and Shen, and calls its name Eben-Ezer, saying, “Until now YHWH has helped us.”
Después de esto, Samuel tomó una piedra y la colocó entre Mizpa y Sen. La llamó Ebenezer, diciendo: “¡El Señor nos ayudó hasta aquí!”.
13 And the Philistines are humbled, and have not added anymore to come into the border of Israel, and the hand of YHWH is on the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
Fue así como los filisteos se mantuvieron bajo control y no volvieron a invadir Israel. A lo largo de la vida de Samuel, el Señor usó su poder contra los filisteos.
14 And the cities which the Philistines have taken from Israel are restored to Israel—from Ekron even to Gath—and Israel has delivered their border out of the hand of the Philistines; and there is peace between Israel and the Amorite.
Los filisteos le devolvieron a Israel las ciudades que les habían arrebatado, desde Ecrón hasta Gat, e Israel también liberó el territorio vecino de manos de los filisteos. También hubo paz entre Israel y los amorreos.
15 And Samuel judges Israel all the days of his life,
Y Samuel fue el líder de Israel por el resto de su vida.
16 and he has gone from year to year, and gone around Beth-El, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel [in] all these places;
Todos los años recorría el país, yendo a Betel, Gilgal y Mizpa. En todos estos lugares atendía los asuntos de Israel.
17 and his returning [is] to Ramath, for his house [is] there, and he has judged Israel there, and he builds an altar to YHWH there.
Luego regresaba a Ramá, porque allí vivía. Desde allí gobernaba a Israel, y también construyó un altar para el Señor.
