1 Samuel 30
1 And it comes to pass, in the coming in of David and his men to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites have pushed toward the south, and to Ziklag, and strike Ziklag, and burn it with fire,
Et comme David et ses gens rentraient à Sécelac, le troisième jour, il était arrivé qu'Amalec, ayant fait une incursion contre le midi de Sécelac, avait pris et incendié cette ville.
2 and they take the women who [are] in it captive; they have not put anyone to death from small to great, and they lead [them] away, and go on their way.
Sans y tuer toutefois ni petit, ni grand, ni homme, ni femme, ni rien qui eût vie. Ils emmenaient donc les habitants captifs, et s'en retournaient par le chemin qui conduit chez eux.
3 And David comes in—and his men—to the city, and behold, [it is] burned with fire, and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters have been taken captive.
Quand David et ses hommes rentrèrent dans la ville, voilà qu'elle était brûlée, et que leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs filles, s'en allaient en captivité.
4 And David lifts up—and the people who [are] with him—their voice and weep, until they have no power to weep.
A cette vue, David et ses gens élevèrent la voix, et ils pleurèrent jusqu'à ce qu'ils n'eussent plus de force pour pleurer.
5 And the two wives of David have been taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite;
Or, les deux femmes de David étaient captives, Achinaam la Jezraélite, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal du Carmel.
6 and David has great distress, for the people have said to stone him, for the soul of all the people has been bitter, each for his sons and for his daughters; and David strengthens himself in his God YHWH.
Et David fut accablé de douleur; car le peuple parlait de le lapider, tant chacun avait de chagrin dans l'âme, à cause de ses fils et de ses filles. Mais David se fortifia en Dieu son Seigneur.
7 And David says to Abiathar the priest, son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod near to me”; and Abiathar brings the ephod near to David,
Et il dit à Abiathar le prêtre, fils d'Abimélech: Apporte l'éphod.
8 and David inquires of YHWH, saying, “I pursue after this troop—do I overtake it?” And He says to him, “Pursue, for you certainly overtake, and certainly deliver.”
Et David consulta le Seigneur, disant: Si je poursuis ces gens, les atteindrai-je? Et le Seigneur lui répondit: Poursuis-les, tu les atteindras, et tu les extermineras.
9 And David goes on, he and six hundred men who [are] with him, and they come to the Brook of Besor, and those left have stood still,
Ainsi, David partit en personne avec les six cents hommes de sa troupe; ils allèrent jusqu'au torrent de Bosor; là, une partie d'entre eux s'arrêta.
10 and David pursues, he and four hundred men (and two hundred men stand still who have been too faint to pass over the Brook of Besor),
Et il continua de s'avancer avec quatre cents hommes, et il en laissa deux cents campés sur la rive du Bosor.
11 and they find a man, an Egyptian, in the field, and take him to David, and give bread to him, and he eats, and they cause him to drink water,
Et ses hommes trouvèrent dans les champs un Égyptien qu'ils saisirent et lui amenèrent; on lui donna du pain, il mangea, et on lui fit boire de l'eau.
12 and give to him a piece of a bunch of dried figs, and two bunches of raisins, and he eats, and his spirit returns to him, for he has not eaten bread nor drunk water [for] three days and three nights.
On lui donna en outre un cabas de figues; il en mangea, et ses esprits se ranimèrent; car, depuis trois jours et trois nuits, il n'avait ni bu ni mangé.
13 And David says to him, “Whose [are] you? And where [are] you from?” And he says, “I [am] an Egyptian youth, servant to a man, an Amalekite, and my lord forsakes me, for I have been sick [for] three days,
Et David lui dit: A qui appartiens-tu? D'où es-tu? Le jeune Égyptien répondit: Je suis serviteur d'un Amalécite; mon maître m'a abandonné, parce que, depuis trois jours, j'étais malade.
14 we pushed [to] the south of the Cherethite, and against that which [is] to Judah, and against the south of Caleb, and we burned Ziklag with fire.”
Nous avons fait une incursion au midi de Chéléthi, de la Judée, et de Chélab; puis, nous avons incendié Sécelac.
15 And David says to him, “Do you bring me down to this troop?” And he says, “Swear to me by God [that] you do not put me to death, nor do you shut me up into the hand of my lord, and I bring you down to this troop.”
David lui dit: Pourrais-tu me conduire où sont ces gens? A quoi il répondit: Jure-moi par ton Dieu que tu ne me feras point mourir, et que tu ne me livreras pas à mon maître, aussitôt je te conduirai contre ces gens.
16 And he brings him down, and behold, they are spread out over the face of all the earth, eating, and drinking, and celebrating, with all the great spoil which they have taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
Et le jeune homme l'y conduisit. Or, voilà que les Amalécites étaient dispersés sur la face de toute leur terre, mangeant, buvant, et faisant fête de toutes les grandes dépouilles qu'ils avaient rapportées, tant du territoire des Philistins que de celui de Juda.
17 And David strikes them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day, and there has not escaped of them a man, except four hundred young men who have ridden on the camels and flee.
David fondit sur eux, et il les tailla en pièces, depuis le lever de l'aurore jusqu'au crépuscule, et encore le lendemain; pas un seul homme n'échappa, hormis quatre cents jeunes garçons, qui montaient des chamelles, et qui s'enfuirent.
18 And David delivers all that the Amalekites have taken; David has also delivered his two wives.
David recouvra tout ce qu'avaient pris les Amalécites, et il ramena ses deux femmes.
19 And nothing of theirs has lacked, from small to great, and to sons and daughters, and from the spoil, even to all that they had taken to themselves, David has brought back the whole,
Et nulle chose, grande ou petite, ne fut perdue; et les dépouilles, les fils et les filles, et tout ce qui leur avait été enlevé, David le recouvra en entier.
20 and David takes the whole of the flock and of the herd [that] they have led on before these livestock, and they say, “This [is] David’s spoil.”
De plus, il s'empara de toutes les brebis, de tous les bœufs, et il les fit marcher devant les dépouilles qu'ils venaient de reprendre; et, au sujet de ce butin repris, on disait: Voici les dépouilles de David.
21 And David comes to the two hundred men who were too faint to go after David, and whom they cause to abide at the Brook of Besor, and they go out to meet David, and to meet the people who [are] with him, and David approaches the people, and asks of them of welfare.
Il arriva ainsi vers les deux cents hommes qu'il avait dispensés de le suivre, et qu'il avait postés sur le torrent de Bosor; ils allèrent à la rencontre de David et de sa troupe; lui-même s'avança près d'eux, et ils le saluèrent,
22 And every bad and worthless man, of the men who have gone with David, answers, indeed, they say, “Because that they have not gone with us we do not give to them of the spoil which we have delivered, except each his wife and his children, and they lead away and go.”
Et tous les hommes de pestilence, les méchants, parmi ceux qui venaient de combattre avec David, se récrièrent, et dirent: Parce qu'ils n'ont point avec nous poursuivi l'ennemi, nous ne leur donnerons rien des dépouilles que nous ramenons; qu'ils se contentent de reprendre chacun leur femme et leurs enfants, et qu'ils s'en aillent.
23 And David says, “You do not do so, my brothers, with that which YHWH has given to us, and He preserves us, and gives the troop which comes against us into our hand;
Et David dit: Vous ne ferez point cela, après que le Seigneur nous a pris sous sa garde, et nous a livré l'Amalécite; car le Seigneur nous a livré ces gens qui nous avaient envahis.
24 and who listens to you in this thing? For as the portion of him who was brought down into battle, so also [is] the portion of him who is abiding by the vessels—they share alike.”
Et qui donc écouterait de tels discours? Ceux qui sont restés auprès des bagages ne sont pas moins que vous; ils auront une part égale à celle des combattants; ils partageront également.
25 And it comes to pass from that day and forward, that he appoints it for a statute and for an ordinance for Israel to this day.
A partir de ce jour-là, on a toujours fait ainsi; c'est devenu chez Israël une loi, une ordonnance, qui s'observe encore aujourd'hui.
26 And David comes to Ziklag, and sends of the spoil to [the] elderly of Judah, to his friends, saying, “Behold, a blessing for you of the spoil of the enemies of YHWH,”
David revint à Sécelac, et il envoya une part des dépouilles aux anciens de Juda et à ses voisins les plus proches, disant: Voici des dépouilles des ennemis du Seigneur,
27 to those in Beth-El, and to those in South Ramoth, and to those in Jattir,
Pour ceux de Bethsur, pour ceux du midi de Rhama, pour ceux de Géthor,
28 and to those in Aroer, and to those in Siphmoth, and to those in Eshtemoa,
Pour ceux d'Aroer, pour ceux d'Ammadi, pour ceux de Saphi, pour ceux d'Esthié,
29 and to those in Rachal, and to those in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those in the cities of the Kenites,
Pour ceux de Geth, pour ceux de Cimath, pour ceux de Saphec, pour ceux de Thémath, pour ceux du Carmel, pour ceux des villes de Jérémiel, pour ceux des villes de Cénézi,
30 and to those in Hormah, and to those in Chor-Ashan, and to those in Athach,
Pour ceux de Jérimuth, pour ceux de Bersabée, pour ceux de Nomba,
31 and to those in Hebron, and to all the places where David—he and his men—had gone up and down.
Pour ceux d'Hébron et pour ceux de tous les lieux où David avec ses hommes a passé.
