1 Samuel 15
1 And Samuel says to Saul, “YHWH sent me to anoint you for king over His people, over Israel; and now, listen to the voice of the words of YHWH.
Samuel dijo a Saúl: “Yahvé me ha enviado para ungirte como rey de su pueblo, de Israel. Ahora, pues, escucha la voz de las palabras de Yahvé.
2 Thus said YHWH of Hosts: I have looked after that which Amalek did to Israel, that which he laid for him in the way in his going up out of Egypt.
El Señor de los Ejércitos dice: ‘Me acuerdo de lo que Amalec hizo a Israel, de cómo se puso en su contra en el camino cuando subió de Egipto.
3 Now go, and you have struck Amalek, and devoted all that he has, and you have no pity on him, and have put to death from man to woman, from infant to suckling, from ox to sheep, from camel to donkey.”
Ahora ve y ataca a Amalec, y destruye por completo todo lo que tiene, y no lo perdones; mata tanto al hombre como a la mujer, al niño y al lactante, al buey y a la oveja, al camello y al asno’”.
4 And Saul summons the people, and inspects them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand [are] men of Judah.
Saúl convocó al pueblo y lo contó en Telaim, doscientos mil hombres de a pie y diez mil hombres de Judá.
5 And Saul comes to a city of Amalek, and lays wait in a valley;
Saúl llegó a la ciudad de Amalec y puso una emboscada en el valle.
6 and Saul says to the Kenite, “Go, turn aside, go down from the midst of Amalek, lest I consume you with it, and you did kindness with all the sons of Israel, in their going up out of Egypt”; and the Kenite turns aside from the midst of Amalek.
Saúl dijo a los ceneos: “Vayan, váyanse, desciendan de entre los amalecitas, para que no los destruya con ellos, pues ustedes mostraron bondad con todos los hijos de Israel cuando subieron de Egipto.” Así que los ceneos se marcharon de entre los amalecitas.
7 And Saul strikes Amalek from Havilah [to] your going to Shur, which [is] on the front of Egypt,
Saúl hirió a los amalecitas, desde Havila, como vas a Shur, que está frente a Egipto.
8 and he catches Agag king of Amalek alive, and he has devoted all the people by the mouth of the sword;
Tomó vivo a Agag, rey de los amalecitas, y destruyó a todo el pueblo a filo de espada.
9 and Saul has pity—also the people—on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and of the seconds, and on the lambs, and on all that [is] good, and have not been willing to devote them; and all the work, despised and wasted—it they devoted.
Pero Saúl y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag y a lo mejor de las ovejas, del ganado, de los terneros gordos, de los corderos, y de todo lo bueno, y no quisieron destruirlo del todo; pero todo lo vil y desecho lo destruyeron del todo.
10 And the word of YHWH is to Samuel, saying,
Entonces llegó la palabra de Yahvé a Samuel, diciendo:
11 “I have regretted that I caused Saul to reign for king, for he has turned back from after Me, and he has not performed My words”; and it is displeasing to Samuel, and he cries to YHWH all the night.
“Me apena haber puesto a Saúl como rey, pues se ha apartado de seguirme y no ha cumplido mis mandatos.” Samuel se enfureció y clamó a Yahvé toda la noche.
12 And Samuel rises early to meet Saul in the morning, and it is declared to Samuel, saying, “Saul has come to Carmel, and behold, he is setting up a monument to himself, and goes around, and passes over, and goes down to Gilgal.”
Samuel se levantó temprano para encontrarse con Saúl por la mañana, y le dijeron: “Saúl llegó al Carmelo, y he aquí que se levantó un monumento, se volvió, pasó y bajó a Gilgal.”
13 And Samuel comes to Saul, and Saul says to him, “Blessed [are] you of YHWH; I have performed the word of YHWH.”
Samuel se acercó a Saúl, y éste le dijo: “¡Bendito seas por Yahvé! He cumplido el mandamiento de Yahvé”.
14 And Samuel says, “And what [is] the noise of this flock in my ears—and the noise of the herd which I am hearing?”
Samuel dijo: “Entonces, ¿qué significa este balido de las ovejas en mis oídos y el mugido del ganado que oigo?”
15 And Saul says, “They have brought them from Amalek, because the people had pity on the best of the flock, and of the herd, in order to sacrifice to your God YHWH, and we have devoted the remnant.”
Saúl dijo: “Los han traído de los amalecitas, pues el pueblo perdonó lo mejor de las ovejas y del ganado, para sacrificar a Yahvé vuestro Dios. El resto lo hemos destruido por completo”.
16 And Samuel says to Saul, “Desist, and I declare to you that which YHWH has spoken to me tonight”; and he says to him, “Speak.”
Entonces Samuel dijo a Saúl: “Quédate, y te contaré lo que me dijo Yahvé anoche”. Le dijo: “Diga”.
17 And Samuel says, “Are you not, if you [are] little in your own eyes, head of the tribes of Israel? And YHWH anoints you for king over Israel,
Samuel dijo: “Aunque eras pequeño a tus ojos, ¿no fuiste hecho jefe de las tribus de Israel? Yahvé te ungió como rey de Israel;
18 and YHWH sends you in the way, and says, Go, and you have devoted the sinners, the Amalekite, and fought against them until they are consumed;
y Yahvé te envió de viaje y te dijo: ‘Ve y destruye por completo a los pecadores amalecitas, y lucha contra ellos hasta consumirlos’.
19 and why have you not listened to the voice of YHWH—and fly to the spoil, and do evil in the eyes of YHWH?”
¿Por qué entonces no obedeciste la voz de Yahvé, sino que tomaste el botín e hiciste lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé?”
20 And Saul says to Samuel, “Because—I have listened to the voice of YHWH, and I go in the way which YHWH has sent me, and bring in Agag king of Amalek, and I have devoted Amalek;
Saúl dijo a Samuel: “Pero yo he obedecido la voz de Yahvé y he seguido el camino que Yahvé me envió, y he traído a Agag, rey de Amalec, y he destruido por completo a los amalecitas.
21 and the people take of the spoil of the flock and herd, the first part of the devoted thing, for sacrifice to your God YHWH in Gilgal.”
Pero el pueblo tomó del botín, ovejas y ganado, lo mejor de lo consagrado, para sacrificar a Yahvé vuestro Dios en Gilgal.”
22 And Samuel says, “Has YHWH had delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices as [in] listening to the voice of YHWH? Behold, listening is better than sacrifice; to give attention than fat of rams;
Samuel dijo: “¿Se complace tanto Yahvé en los holocaustos y sacrificios como en obedecer la voz de Yahvé? He aquí que obedecer es mejor que los sacrificios, y escuchar que la grasa de los carneros.
23 for rebellion [is as] a sin of divination, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and teraphim; because you have rejected the word of YHWH, He also rejects you from [being] king.”
Porque la rebeldía es como el pecado de brujería, y la obstinación es como la idolatría y los terafines. Porque has rechazado la palabra de Yahvé, él también te ha rechazado para ser rey”.
24 And Saul says to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I passed over the command of YHWH, and your words; because I have feared the people, I also listen to their voice;
Saúl dijo a Samuel: “He pecado, pues he transgredido el mandamiento de Yahvé y tus palabras, porque temí al pueblo y obedecí su voz.
25 and now, please bear with my sin, and return with me, and I bow myself to YHWH.”
Ahora, pues, te ruego que perdones mi pecado y vuelvas conmigo para que pueda adorar a Yahvé”.
26 And Samuel says to Saul, “I do not return with you; for you have rejected the word of YHWH, and YHWH rejects you from being king over Israel.”
Samuel le dijo a Saúl: “No volveré contigo, porque has rechazado la palabra de Yahvé, y Yahvé te ha rechazado para ser rey de Israel”.
27 And Samuel turns around to go, and he lays hold on the skirt of his upper robe—and it is torn!
Cuando Samuel se dio la vuelta para marcharse, Saúl se agarró a la falda de su túnica y ésta se rasgó.
28 And Samuel says to him, “YHWH has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and given it to your neighbor who is better than you;
Samuel le dijo: “Yahvé te ha arrancado hoy el reino de Israel y se lo ha dado a un vecino tuyo que es mejor que tú.
29 and also, the Preeminence of Israel does not lie nor relent, for He [is] not a man that He should relent.”
También la Fuerza de Israel no mentirá ni se arrepentirá, porque no es hombre para arrepentirse.”
30 And he says, “I have sinned; now please honor me before [the] elderly of my people and before Israel, and return with me; and I have bowed myself to your God YHWH.”
Entonces dijo: “He pecado; pero te ruego que me honres ahora ante los ancianos de mi pueblo y ante Israel, y que vuelvas conmigo para que pueda adorar a Yahvé, tu Dios.”
31 And Samuel turns back after Saul, and Saul bows himself to YHWH;
Entonces Samuel regresó con Saúl, y éste adoró a Yahvé.
32 and Samuel says, “Bring Agag king of Amalek to me,” and Agag comes to him daintily, and Agag says, “Surely the bitterness of death has turned aside.”
Entonces Samuel dijo: “¡Trae aquí a Agag, rey de los amalecitas!” Agag se acercó a él alegremente. Agag dijo: “Ciertamente la amargura de la muerte ha pasado”.
33 And Samuel says, “As your sword bereaved women—so is your mother bereaved above women”; and Samuel hews Agag in pieces before YHWH in Gilgal.
Samuel dijo: “¡Como tu espada ha dejado sin hijos a las mujeres, así tu madre quedará sin hijos entre las mujeres!” Entonces Samuel cortó en pedazos a Agag ante Yahvé en Gilgal.
34 And Samuel goes to Ramath, and Saul has gone to his house—to Gibeah of Saul.
Entonces Samuel se fue a Ramá, y Saúl subió a su casa en Gabaa de Saúl.
35 And Samuel has not added to see Saul until the day of his death, for Samuel mourned for Saul, and YHWH regretted that He had caused Saul to reign over Israel.
Samuel no volvió a ver a Saúl hasta el día de su muerte, pero Samuel hizo duelo por Saúl. El Señor se afligió por haber hecho a Saúl rey de Israel.
