1 Samuel 13
1 Saul [is] a son of [[thirty]] years in his reigning, and he has reigned over Israel [forty]-two years,
Saül était âgé de… ans lorsqu’il devint roi et il régna deux ans sur Israël.
2 then Saul chooses for himself three thousand [men] out of Israel; and two thousand are with Saul in Michmash, and in the hill-country of Beth-El; and one thousand have been with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin; and he has sent each one of the remnant of the people to his tents.
Saül se choisit trente mille hommes d’Israël: deux mille étaient avec lui à Machmas et sur la montagne de Béthel, et mille étaient avec Jonathas à Gabaa de Benjamin. Et il renvoya le reste du peuple, chacun dans sa tente.
3 And Jonathan strikes the garrison of the Philistines which [is] in Geba, and the Philistines hear, and Saul has blown with a horn through all the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear.”
Jonathas battit le poste des Philistins qui était à Gabée et les Philistins l’apprirent. Et Saül fit sonner de la trompette dans tout le pays, en disant: « Que les Hébreux entendent! »
4 And all Israel have heard, saying, “Saul has struck the garrison of the Philistines,” and also, “Israel has been abhorred by the Philistines”; and the people are called after Saul to Gilgal.
Tout Israël entendit la nouvelle: « Saül a battu le poste des Philistins, et même Israël s’est rendu odieux auprès des Philistins. » Et le peuple fut convoqué auprès de Saül, à Galgala.
5 And the Philistines have been gathered to fight with Israel; thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and a people as the sand which [is] on the seashore for multitude; and they come up and encamp in Michmash, east of Beth-Aven.
Les Philistins s’assemblèrent pour combattre Israël; ils avaient trente mille chars, six mille cavaliers, et un peuple innombrable comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer. Ils montèrent et campèrent à Machmas, à l’orient de Beth-Aven.
6 And the men of Israel have seen that they are distressed, that the people have been oppressed, and the people hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.
Les hommes d’Israël, se voyant dans une grande extrémité, car ils étaient serrés de près, se cachèrent dans les cavernes, dans les broussailles, dans les rochers, dans les trous et dans les citernes.
7 And Hebrews have passed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; and Saul [is] yet in Gilgal, and all the people have trembled after him.
Des Hébreux passèrent aussi le Jourdain, pour aller au pays de Gad et de Galaad. Saül était encore à Galgala, et tout le peuple derrière lui tremblait.
8 And he waits seven days, according to the appointment with Samuel, and Samuel has not come to Gilgal, and the people are scattered from off him.
Il attendit sept jours, selon le terme fixé par Samuel. Mais Samuel n’arrivait pas à Galgala, et le peuple se dispersait loin de Saül.
9 And Saul says, “Bring the burnt-offering and the peace-offerings near to me”; and he causes the burnt-offering to ascend.
Alors Saül dit: « Amenez-moi l’holocauste et les sacrifices pacifiques. » Et il offrit l’holocauste.
10 And it comes to pass at his completing to cause the burnt-offering to ascend, that behold, Samuel has come, and Saul goes out to meet him, to bless him;
Comme il achevait d’offrir l’holocauste, voici que Samuel arriva, et Saül sortit au-devant de lui pour le saluer.
11 and Samuel says, “What have you done?” And Saul says, “Because I saw that the people were scattered from off me, and you had not come at the appointment of the days, and the Philistines are gathered to Michmash,
Samuel lui dit: « Qu’as-tu fait? » Saül répondit: « Lorsque j’ai vu que le peuple se dispersait loin de moi, que tu n’arrivais pas au terme fixé et que les Philistins étaient assemblés à Machmas,
12 and I say, Now the Philistines come down to me to Gilgal, and I have not appeased the face of YHWH; and I force myself, and cause the burnt-offering to ascend.”
je me suis dit: Maintenant, les Philistins vont descendre contre moi à Galgala, et je n’ai pas imploré Yahweh. Alors, me faisant violence, j’ai offert l’holocauste. »
13 And Samuel says to Saul, “You have been foolish; you have not kept the command of your God YHWH, which He commanded you, for now YHWH had established your kingdom over Israel for all time;
Samuel dit à Saül: « Tu as agi en insensé, tu n’as pas observé le commandement que Yahweh ton Dieu t’avait donné; car Yahweh aurait affermi pour toujours ton règne sur Israël.
14 and now, your kingdom does not stand, YHWH has sought [for] a man for Himself according to His own heart, and YHWH charges him for leader over His people, for you have not kept that which YHWH commanded you.”
Mais maintenant, ton règne ne subsistera point. Yahweh s’est cherché un homme selon son cœur et Yahweh l’a destiné à être le chef de son peuple, parce que tu n’as pas observé ce que Yahweh t’avait ordonné. »
15 And Samuel rises, and goes up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin; and Saul inspects the people who are found with him, about six hundred men,
Et Samuel se leva, et monta de Galgala à Gabaa de Benjamin. Saül passa en revue le peuple qui se trouvait avec lui: il y en avait environ six cents hommes.
16 and Saul, and his son Jonathan, and the people who are found with them, are abiding in Gibeah of Benjamin, and the Philistines have encamped in Michmash.
Saül, Jonathas, son fils, et le peuple qui se trouvait avec eux s’étaient postés à Gabée de Benjamin, et les Philistins campaient à Machmas.
17 And the destroyer goes out from the camp of the Philistines—three detachments: one detachment turns to the way of Ophrah, to the land of Shual,
L’armée de destruction sortit du camp des Philistins en trois corps: un corps prit le chemin d’Ephra, vers le pays de Sual;
18 and one detachment turns the way of Beth-Horon, and one detachment turns the way of the border which is looking on the Valley of the Zeboim, toward the wilderness.
un autre corps prit le chemin de Beth-Horon; et le troisième corps, celui de la frontière qui domine la vallée de Seboïm, du côté du désert.
19 And a craftsman is not found in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, “Lest the Hebrews make sword or spear”;
On ne trouvait point de forgeron dans tout le pays d’Israël; car les Philistins avaient dit: « Que les Hébreux ne puissent plus fabriquer d’épées ou de lances! »
20 and all Israel goes down to the Philistines, to each sharpen his plowshare, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock;
Et tout Israël descendait chez les Philistins pour aiguiser chacun son soc, son hoyau, sa hache ou sa charrue,
21 and there has been the file for mattocks, and for coulters, and for three-pronged rakes, and for the axes, and to set up the goads.
en sorte que le tranchant des socs, des hoyaux, des tridents et des haches était souvent émoussé et les aiguillons non redressés.
22 And it has been, in the day of battle, that there has not been found a sword and spear in the hand of any of the people who [are] with Saul and with Jonathan—but it is found with Saul and with his son Jonathan.
Il arriva qu’au jour du combat, il ne se trouvait ni lance ni épée dans la main de tout le peuple qui était avec Saül et Jonathas; mais il s’en trouvait auprès de Saül et de Jonathas, son fils.
23 And the station of the Philistines goes out to the passage of Michmash.
Un poste des Philistins se rendit au passage de Machmas.
